I had similar lines on boot up once happened once though.

Screen banding. Possibly could be fixed in certain ROMs, but definitely an issue you should get it replaced for.

Had this first time today ....if it won't happen again not an issue ... My galaxy nexus when battery was dying screen was going off like an EMP just hit it ... Not worried yet ...

My friend, check out my general thread on this...For gods sake, I made this thread for everybody to use and discuss since there are so many "Oh my display is ****ed up" threads and then nobody uses it.

Well yeah, if you're going to be a **** about it no one is going to go to your thread.

And I wouldn't exactly link dead pixels and this banding together.

I have this same issue on my N4....not as bad as yours but under certain conditions vertical banding is observable (generally when at 100% brightness). Having it replaced this week.

I don't think that is banding. Banding is whole a other thing. Very common on Panasonic plasmas and some LCD TV's. Those seem to be GPU going whack lines. Or possibly some bad interference and it showing up as that. But if I had to put money on it I would guess broker or going bad adreno 320's.

Just noticed something like this on my screen. It's very (very) faint and only shows up against gray backgrounds but the pattern is pretty similar. If it gets worse I'm going to contact Google.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app

I'll be contacting google soon, only have my phone on me and I'm on Tmobile's web exclusive plan so only have 100 minutes to talk and I'm not spending them on a 30 min hold. I'll update everyone on the situation.

I had something similar. I turned on the phone and it was just a black screen, and those lines started showing up. Turned the phone off/on and it hasn't done it since. But now I got red pixels that show up by the notification and navigation bars. They disappear once I touch the screen. It doesn't happen allot so I'm not sure if I want to return it

Replacement is being shipped, should take 3-5 days from what I was told.

I had this same issue last week. Except my left top corner was really bright. It persisted after reboot. Hasn't happened since.

same problem here but with blurred display
I too had the same problem with my nexus 4 but i dropped it from a foot height. The display suddenly got blurred and these vertical lines started to appear.can anyone tell me Whether LG accepts this under warranty or I have to pay for it?

Glass screen is not what I expected W/Pics

Not sure if its my phone and it needs to go back.
At the earpiece there is a flat spot that runs across and then another one just below it.
Seems like the process to get the curve threw them a little since its wavy all over but that is something you have to look for and can look past. The earpiece area is what I am most concerned with. Would like to know if others are seeing this.
would you be kind enough to post a picture?
Probably have to pull out the gear to do that but will be taking pics of the vibrant tomorrow so can do it then.
If you look at the speaker and then to the right and left of it there is a flat spot that runs through the glass from side to side if that makes sense.
Either way I will get pics up tomorrow.
post pic..
I don't see anything on mine.
Here are the pics.

It could be designed into the screen but there is another line under it and its not real pretty when the phone is sitting on a desk and you see that. Guess I am just used to the flat smooth screens like the other galaxy s phones.
Is it like, indented into the glass? Looks strange
Mine doesn't look like that. Mine is smooth throughout.
Ok I see it in the pics. That kinda stinks I thought Google said the design was to be the screen blending in to the phone. Bummer.
Going to the store tomorrow and checking out others. If it was a common issue I would just deal with it. Oh well.

It is. Its a flat spot and I can see why its there with the speaker hole there and the cam and prox sensors. Seems they could make a smooth transition or I got a dud.
Take it back and get a new one.
Seems like a hardware defect, I don't see that on mine.

I also noticed that on the first one I got, although not as defined. The issue I had was with the plastic ring around the screen. It was deformed in a few areas. I returned it for another one. This ones perfect. I suggest you do the same.

I have it too.. but not as bad as yours. I have to really use the glare to see it.
I have the same thing...cant notice unless it has light glare on it.
I think pics make it look worse but you can always return it.
Maybe it's flat cuz of the front camera and the light sensors.
I can't tell on mine, unless i have light reflecting on it (like in your pictures)

Thats what I am wondering. I had to use the light to get it in the pics. I deal with glass all day so see these things more then the average person. The bottom is nice and smooth . but the top is a different story. I wonder if others have this and just don't notice it. I hope not but maybe the pics will help others see what I am seeing and give a definite answer.
Either way I am going to go check out some others at BB tomorrow and will report back with what I find.
It may not be a issue at all and part of the design of the phone.
same here but i didnt notice it until you mentioned it.
No problems here on mine. Weird.

[Q] Problem with light bleeding (kind of) at the right of the screen

Anyone else noticed this issue ??
There is a spot at the right (in the red circle ) which is quite brighter.
This is noticeable only in bright backgrounds (white websites, market etc..)
You can not notice it at all on black or other dark backgrounds (youtube app etc..)

Mate, you should look at the screen on the Transformer in a darkened room.
Believe me, that's lightbleed, but not as we know it.
Search youtube for asus eee pad transformer lightbleed issue and see what I mean
I returned my first A500 because it had really bad light bleed. I guess that's what you would call it, but its like the opposite of the other tablets blight bleed complaint, noticeable on white backgrounds but went away with dark ones.

Either way, if it's a fault which spoils your enjoyment of the product then it's not acceptable in a product at this price point.
I returned 3 transformers with the same issue before I got pi$$ed off enough to ask for a refund.
Take it back if you are not happy and email support, they will only know about a potential issue if people are scrupulous about quality control.
I have the same problem so I took the a500 back to best buy for an exchange. The geek quad guy looked at the tablet and told me it is normal and refused the exchange. According to him, there is a light bulb that runs across the screen and the bright spot is the result of close contact between the bulb and the screen. He said that I could either return it or keep it but no exchange. His reason, once the tablet is opened, it can't be sold to other customers and he does not want me to end up return the exchanged tablet which will hurt the company's profit. I was like, sure, the iconia is the only product in the store and by the way, you should be an employee of the month for looking after best buy like that.
I really have noticed this issue on every device i ever held in my hands !!
This must be some general problem.. !!
How about everyone else??
i m really surprised that only a few people reported back on this issue !!
My screen does not have this problem. Maybe your screens are too tight? In fact my Asus netbook does have this problem, (kind of), because it's backlit by LEDs.
Does anyone know what the backlighting is on these Iconias? Did anyone take one apart?
I also noticed this a bit when I was doing some pdf reading with the tablet vertically oriented. Pretty much the exact same spot, but it sounds like it was manufactured that way by the responses of some of the other people on here.
Same problem here at the same spot. Pretty annoying when reading e-books for example. Is there something we can do ?

Screen blemish/burn - Take a look!

Hi all,
Recently purchased an International S3 on a Vodafone UK contract.
I was surfing the internet last night and noticed a rather odd mark had appeared on the screen.
Think I might have to send it back as the mark will not disappear and is very noticable on a white background.
It also shows up on all the Red, Green and Blue screen tests in the service menu.
What do you think? The mark is on the bottom left edge!

Hi guys,
Sent this back to Samsung today. Got to be without the phone for a good 15 days sigh!
The company I got the phone with only offer 7 day return policy Great!!
Will be interesting to see if I get the same device back or if they replace it.
Paul
Its not as bad as it looks likes on the Pic.
The photo was taken with an iPhone 4 and the camera of the iPhone 4 has a lens which makes the center of the pic blueish.
Your screen looks a bit purple but every SAMSUNG GALAXY SIII has this.
I see no reason to return your phone.
But does anyone have an idea what that is? It doesn't look like screen burn...what could cause that?

Aerys, Are you not seeing the same mark as I am?
I have no issue with the overall colour of the screen. However, I do have a problem with the horrible piss stained mark that has appeared on the bottom left of the screen!!
Excellent!! Got my phone back today after 8 days without it.
Samsung have apparently repaired it, however I cannot check because they did not send my battery back with the phone!
Nice one Samsung, very proffesional!
To top it off they said a new battery will be sent and should be there on mon/tue next week.
Great! Another week without my phone.
Knew I should of got the iPhone...
I've had my phone a little over a month now and I've never experienced that. I also heard that the led fatigue issue wasn't so dangerous on the S3 as it was on the Galaxy Nexus and previous sAMOLED screen devices.
i had some similiar screen problems so i changed my s3 three times and all of them had the same problem with the screen so i got my money back and now i am wating on the Note 2

i think that maybe it's a "burn in display"...anyone can help me?
LCD doesn't have burn in issues like AMOLED or Plasma screens. It's either a minor defect (i can't see it in your pics) or it's a group of stuck pixels. Download an app called, "display tester" and run some of the screen tools. This will help you identify what the issue is and may resolve it with the tools in the app. it' important to keep in mind that these types of screens will play tricks on you. for some reason they have odd hues at certain angles.

i've already tried with an app called dead pixel detect and it didn't work. I can assure that there is a little blue blur on the middle right side of the screen ( i know it's difficult to see on a photo). I will try with "display tester" and let you know!
thanks
Update: ive tried with display tester...but i cant see dead pixel. I link you another photo of the display with grey background.
The blur is on middle right side of the phone

I'm confident you have stuck pixles or a damaged LCD. you can try to fix the stuck pixel by running an app for it, but typically it takes 24 hours or more to resolve the issue. You would have to play the image non-stop until it resolves its self (it might never resolve). with that said, you should try to get an RMA if possible. Google seems pretty lax on the RMAs.

[Q] Dropped Nexus 4 - What's wrong with my screen?

So I was unlucky enough to drop my N4 before I was able to get a case for it. I dropped it from my lap while getting out of a taxi so it wasn't a full on drop. At first I thought the only damage was cosmetic - a nick on the chrome trim on the top right corner of the phone.
However afterwards I noticed a small white/bright spot on the screen near that corner where it looks like the backlight is bleeding through. It's most notice-able when the screen is showing something white, less notice-able with colors (red, green, blue etc), and completely fine when showing black.
I've checked some info and it doesn't seem like it's a dead pixel, and just seems overall larger than a dead pixel. At the same time it doesn't seem like a lit pixel either since it's not visible on black. At the moment I'm very thankful that the phone is still very much use-able, but would like to find out what the problem is, and perhaps how intensive a repair this would involve since it is a bit annoying sometimes.
Anyone have had a similar problem or have any ideas?
Is normal. Stop obsessing about it. No phone is perfect. Even my wife's iPhone 4s has defects. If you are looking for flaws, you will find them, guaranteed. Just use your phone like you used to.

Yeah I'm definitely learning to live with it. It may also not look so bad in a photo but it's still pretty noticeable when you're holding the phone in your hand - especially when I'm scrolling around and you can see this static white spot that doesn't move.
Just overall interested in what the problem is as well. I've seen dead pixels and also phones that were dropped where the screen looks completely fubar'd... but haven't been able to find any examples where the screen is like this.
RMA if it's that annoying. Assuming ur phone doesn't look too damaged that they'll say it was your fault.
I do see a few scratches on the screen. Google may not RMA for that reason. If there is another reason like a defect, use that to RMA. IML no Nexus 4 is perfect. I have RMA'd about 4 times till now with a new reason every time. Now after completely blocking my credit card, I have learned to live with an imperfect Nexus 4

Where do you see the scratches? I haven't even noticed them!
I guess from the replies I should learn to live with it then. Thing is I really thought this was due to the drop, but it's also possible it was a defect that I didn't notice... I saw some N4s with the light bleed problem, but were from the edges of the screen, that's why I really thought this was due to damage.
Send it back in, duh. It's still under warranty. :crying:
