Xperia X1i vs X1a

After researching for weeks and weeks i recently found that there will be 2 different versions of the phone. one for north america.. the other for the rest of the world... something regarding patents of broadcomm or something... but looks like the USA version will not have VGA video capabilities with 30fps... it will be less at 24fps.
another difference is the network.. 850Mhz vs 900mhz GSM?
anyways....
i am wondering... it will probably be possible once both phones are launched... to buy the USA version... and flash it to the NON usa version's ROM??? and is that advisable.
also how much with 2yr contract you guys thinking it will cost??? im guessing 499-599 for the first couple weeks.

also... are the frequencies :850/1900/2100 MHz: related to HARDWARE of device and independent of ROM? say i flash rom to the europe version... will i still have UTMS 850/1900/2100 MHz or will it be 900/1900/2100 MHz... and im guessing the 900 wont be utilized since ATT doesnt use it.
and if i lose the 850mhz range... for utms by flashing .. if so.. will i really experience signal quality drop?
sry for all the questions.. im not very familiar with these stuff.
ps: but i heard it will be a hardware limitation so even by flashing rom... USA version will not be able to decode h.264 video am I right?

Yes that's very doubtfully in the same version, that's what he's saying. 2 different versions, likely 850/900/1900/mhz UMTS on one, and 900/1700/2100mhz UMTS on the other. As for hardware limitations, almost definitely. I can't imagine having 5 bands of UMTS available in 1 phone, I think it'd have to be bigger. You could flash a new ROM independent of radio, and not mess up the coverage, sure.
As for your questions about 850mhz, here's how it goes.
AT&T, in the US: 850/1900MHZ UMTS, depending on the area it will be 1 or the other.
T-Mo, in the US: 1700/2100MHZ UMTS, both active at the same time, one for upload the other for download.
Europe: 900MHZ (I believe) UMTS
Asia: 2100MHZ (I believe) UMTS
So with AT&T, losing functionality of 1 band will limit your reception in certain parts of the country... But don't flash a new radio and it should be fine.
As for carrier, I don't know if any in the US is going to pick this up and sell it subsidized. If not, you're shelling out all $900+ for this baby with no contract.

I have confirmed the compatiable in the USA with T-Mobile's USA 3g and AT&T's 3g, I have confirmed this with SonyEricsson. The 2 versions are "a" and "i", this may have been the intentions of SonyEricsson in the beginning, but may have change to one worldwide 5 band Xperia X1, this part has not been confirmed. also... with the "usa" version that doesnt do 30fps...
will it play pretty smooth any videos that i put on it? like movies .mp4?

It's supposed to be able to play 720x480 (DVD Quality) movies smoothly so I don't see why it shouldn't.

Time will tell if it can play movies properly. Its a driver issue.
Can the Diamond play normal Xvid files? I doubt it.
This device shouldnt neither unless it has some good drivers and unless the ram acctualy makes the playback more fluid.

i heard its supposed to have some ati graphics card in there for that aspect of things. so im thinking it will do fine... i guess we wait and see reviews..

being compatible and getting 3g is totally different. one version can work on at&t and only receive edge instead of 3g cause it is missing one of the bands....

I don't trust the spec from someone who just want to attract buyers. They don't even have a final production box in their hands. Where they got all that from?
Those specs are wrong and wrong. taken from old sources. The first line is true, but you go down the list and it is only inaccuracies, so what you believe?
3G network. How they know?
Size. Inaccuarte
Memory phone book capacity? Are you kidding me?
400 MB internal memory. What? that's not even a binary number.
HSDPA 3.6 Mbps? I know it is 7.2
W.M 6.0? They didn't even got this one
Motion Sensor? ha ha ha ha
Battery standard Li-Ion? What happes with the Li-Po
Would you buy from these guys? How do you know what's coming in their box?

and by motion sensor their relating to accelerometer...and indeed the xperia does NOT come with that.. so screen will not rotate itself as u rotate phone. switching to landscape mode and vice versa will take the flick of a button/option.

All signs are pointing toward the SGH-T999 (Galaxy S III) heading to T-Mobile as the newest piece of evidence surfaces in the form of FCC approval. Here’s the one notable takeaway from this, no LTE is coming in this particular model. The documents do show WCDMA support for T-Mobile’s AWS band, just as we expected to see. There’s also support for the 850 and 1900 bands meaning this device will be ready to rock under T-Mobile’s refarmed 4G network as well. The lack of LTE connectivity isn’t surprising given that T-Mobile isn’t expected to launch their LTE network until sometime in 2013, but we had hoped that Samsung and T-Mobile would forward think given that T-Mobile’s AWS LTE network will pair up nicely with AT&T’s own LTE 1700 bands.
NFC (near-field communication) is on board, but we don’t know how much support T-Mobile will offer for this feature, though we hope Google Wallet support is a possibility. Other than that, we’re not seeing any other surprises here, good or bad.
All in all, this early FCC report seems fairly standard — so now we wait for T-Mobile to make an official announcement.

So am I right to assume this device unlocked will work with ATT as well? Given the 850 and 1900 HSPA bands, despite not seeing 2100 listed.

I hope this proves it. Hopefully t-mobile gets it, I have a up grade coming next month and Ive had my eye's on this since it was announced.

Looks like their is two models. The SGH-T999 and the SGH-T999v. I'm thinking its going to be two different storage options.

Also, the user agent profile shows ARM11 instead of MSM8960. Could very well be the Exynos Quad-Core chip.

Has anyone here definite information if the International/Unlocked S3 will work with a pre-paid SIM card on the T-Mobile network, and at broadband (3G+/HSPA+) speeds- ?
I've read a ton of posts, blogs and spec sheets since I was thinking about buying the unlocked S3 and a T-Mo (USA) SIM card yesterday - and I am not sure about it anymore, since there seems to be a lot of conflicting information...
1.) Taylor Wimberly, from the "Android & Me" blog pointed out in his recent article "7 reasons to shred your wireless contract and switch to prepaid" (http://androidandme.com/2012/05/opi...your-wireless-contract-and-switch-to-pre-paid) that is it possible to use a prepaid SIM on the US Networks of T-Mobile and AT&T.
According to his blog, it is - even with a prepaid 3rd-Party SIM - still possible to get on the fast HSPA+ networks of T-Mobile and AT&T (USA)... (??)
2.) However, and when I checked out T-Mobile's prepaid SIM offerings, they clearly state that "Only 3G phones that support the 1700-MHz band are compatible (not all 3G phones support it)", and "Important note about 3G phones: If you own a 3G phone but it does not support the 1700-MHz band, it will operate at 2G (EDGE) speeds on our network."
And who really wants to crawl the web with a freakin' awesome S3, but only at at 2G speeds?
3.) Lastly, and reading up on which MHz bands exactly the International S3 can handle, it is stated:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE (regional)
Turns out that both T-Mobile and AT&T in the U.S. use the 1700 MHz band - which is outside of the International S3's spectrum... so it seems. But, T-Mobile also uses the 1900 MHz band for 3G..
I don't really care about LTE, as long as I can get HSPA+ speeds with approx. 20 Mbit/s down.
So... Who is right?
Can I use the International S3 with an T-Mobile prepaid SIM and still cruise at HSPA+ speeds?
Or, am I doomed to use 2G only if pursuing that path??
Please HELP to CLARIFY... because I'm going crazy over this!

to my knowledge tmo uses both 1700 and 2100 for their 3G (correct me if I'm wrong) so yea it'll be edge
But, if you have enough patience with edge than go ahead and use it on tmo as they'll be using 1900 by the end of the year and by then 3G should be usable

Is there a release date for when T-mobile will be offering the phone? I'm seeing it'll debut in the US on June 1st but I don't know if that means they'll be offering it then or not.

Tmobile is the most effed up carrier out there when comes to phones. Do u really think now just like that unexpectedly they will be offering immediatly the best android device out there? Wait for first quarter of 2013 and then maybe they offer this hottie.

According to Negri Electronics the European model is suppose to come with Pentaband radios including the (1700) T-Mobile 3G radio. I have been calling them every day to get a confirmation because that radio has an *astrik next to it. They said that a Samsung executive said that the phone WILL be coming with the 1700 radio but are waiting for their phones to come in before confirming that to the public. I pre ordered mine, Blue with 32gb and even went so far in ordering a 64gb sd-card. This phone better work on T-Mobile. T-Mobile in my area pushes out over 15mb download and about 4mb upload. Those are very fast speeds for HSPA+. Best part is HSPA+ doesn't murder your battery. I have the Rezound on Verizon and also the GS2 on T-Mobile.

Hi,
I just confirmed my back-order for the I9500 (and the product description is mentioning LTE eu which I believe means Europe). However, I'm a T-mo subscriber.
Does any one know if T-mo will support the European LTE (or in other words - will the I9500 will work with T-mo or AT&T LTE network?)

Hi! Us Tmobile User Here! Sadly no. The i9500 does not come equipped with 4g LTE chips. Mainly due to Europe's lack of a reliable network. The i9505(international) on the other hand does support LTE, so does the us version (SGH-M919). But buying one of these phones is somewhat of a waste knowing there could be compatibility issues with your network. In simple terms, stick with you i9500. HSPA+ IS NOT BAD. On paper it has a 42mbits max while LTE IS A WHOPPING 100MBITS. But the problem is paper stats dont translate well into everyday. Many times i find my self enjoying faster speeds on my HSPA+ phone then my LTE friends, variables like network congestion and signal strengrh can all factor into this. So yeah, stick with your I9500, the lack of LTE will only save you battery:laugh:!

I think that the lack of LTE for the i9500 is now updated. This is the spec from the website I've ordered the i9500 from:
Network: 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE): 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz; 3G (HSPA+ 42Mbps): 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz; 4G (LTE Cat 3 100/50Mbps) : up to 6 different band sets(Dependent on market)

Processor: 1.6 GHz Octa-Core Processor
OS: Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)

AFAIK there won't be compatibility issues because the GT-I9505 will support all global LTE frequencies and standards. And what you said about LTE in Europe is wrong. There is a "reliable" network in Europe but it works on other frequencies than in US and moreover most countries in Europe will get the GT-I9505 version only. What you said was the case with the SGS3 but now the Exynos version (GT-I9500) will be officially in only few Europe countries.

Negative. I spoke to them and had them look up the exact model with their procurement. The version they are getting is sourced from South America and DOES NOT have LTE despite it saying so on their website. It appears that many websites have made this same mistake because like Expansys they have simply reposted Samsungs description but it does not discern between the Korean version which is an Octa with LTE and the rest of the (announced) Octa variants which do not have LTE.

International phones are on International Baseband. US phones are on us baseband. If they were the same then there would be no US-International. It would just be one baseband. So i doubt it will but you can still be open to possibilities.

Warranty is not really an issue for me, just need to know where I can get the Exynos variant.

I've seen that, but their descriptions are really confusing. Some marked LTE, some marked LTA (not sure what that means), and some are marked just GT-i9500. Those which are marked just GT-i9500 say that they come with a quad-core, which should not be; the GT-i9500 is supposed to be octa-core. GT-i9505 is quad-core.
Which is which? Also, there are 16, 32, 64GB versions on the website; I doubt we will be seeing something higher than the 16GB version for the release.
Also, if I order the octa-core version. When will I get it, approximately?

I'm having real trouble finding info on this so I hope you can help.
I have a standard 3uk 3g micro sim card in my international GS3. Can I use this card in an LTE enabled GS3. Is the LTE device backward compatable. I don't expect to get LTE coverage I just need to know if my sim will work as normal in an LTE device.

Yeah it is. If there's no 4G it should revert to whats next available such as 3G

[Q] Which Unlocked S5 model to buy for AT&T?

I hope I am not duplicating a thread that already exists.
I want to buy a Galaxy S5, but I don't want to buy the AT&T version.
I would prefer to buy an unlocked version that will work with AT&T's LTE.
I know there are various versions on the S5, but I'm just not certain which one is compatible with AT&T's network.

I have looked into this a few days back, and it seems the TMobile US version is the best. But if you can wait a little longer, the LG G3 is out which on paper, is better than the S5.
3gb RAM (there is a 2gb RAM version)
Quad HD display (4x than on the S5)
3000mAh battery (user changeable)
Built -in Qi wireless receiver and NFC on the REMOVABLE battery cover (this is by default, unlike crapsung that sells the Qi/NFC enabled battery cover, which makes the phone thicker, and very difficult to find a case that fits)
No Knox to worry about.

Hi, I have the Unlocked SM-G900M (Vodafone version) which works well with AT&T LTE Network (I have Straight Talk). You can root it easily and install most S5 custom ROMs.

I personally has unlocked tmobile version which works fine with at&t lte

I would have to disagree and say that the international Snapdragon LTE version is the model you should get if you are planning to buy unlocked!
Why bother to be bogged down by bloatware and craptacular carrier customizations? Why endure long times for software updates?
On another note, I agree with what another guy mentioned, wait for the LG G3!

But you would be wrong to go this way since the International LTE (SM-G900F) won't work on AT&T LTE Network. LTE Frequencies are different and would be able to get 3G only. The SM-G900M seems to be a good compromise since it allows both 'european' and AT&T frequencies. This is based on my researches, but it may not be totally true since I only tested the M version and AT&T LTE Network.

That is why I said the Tmobile variant is the way to go. Look at your chart, it covers what the "M" version has and adds more...

Just curious but how do you know the AT&T G3 isn't going to have a locked bootloader? I'd be willing to bet it will have one.

First Hand Answer
My entire day today was literally spent A)Selling 900A on Craigslist B)Buying 900T on Craigslist. I broke completely even, $500 sold for and bought for.
Anecdotes aside--
The 900T covers all bands (you can look at the Samsung spec pages if you want source) that the 900A does and just sings. I now have a slimmed down lady that just flies.
The 900T is without question the phone to go with, if ANYBODY says on any forums they are having issues it's software or APN configuration they did incorrectly. Mines perfect and rooted with that sexy unlocked boot loader. I think i'll be staying here for a while.
As for the LG G3 comments, definitely nice specs but i'm not able to f with a device without capacitive buttons. I'm not down with losing screen to OSD bottom buttons.

Canadian model pentaband?

I am trying to work out what I need to do get a pentaband model Note 4 when it comes out. I have tried to research this through the history of the Note 3 but I'm still confused. Ideally (coming from a Nexus 5) I want the phone unlocked (bootloader and SIM) and I need all five UMTS bands including 1700. I believe I could get what I need from T-Mobile but getting it would be a bit of a pain. Could I get what I need from Wind? It seems all Canadian models are the same (W8) but they just have different ROMs that only enable some of the frequencies? Is it the case that there are just simply two models of hardware - Exynos and Snapdragon and with the latter you can put any carrier-specific ROM on it? Coming from the Nexus world this plethora of models is all very confusing.

I'm in a similar boat to you on Wind Mobile.
The Snapdragon version will probably be the one you want to get, as the Exynos versions have historically received very little development, owing largely to Samsung's lack of documentation. Note 3 Exynos I think did not even get CM, because of Samsung's lack of documentation.
Gobi 9x35 model should be accompanying the Snapdragon 805.
It should support the following:
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 / 850 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600
It's likely that there will be a Wind variant that comes out later this year. Historically, Wind has taken a couple of months after launch b efore getting it.

I was reading elsewhere that T-Mobile won't sell me an unlocked phone unless I've been a customer of theirs for a while. So what I'm seeing is this:
a) The only versions I can buy online such as from deltamobiles or canadagsm or expansys are the Exynos version which has no 1700 band support.
b) Wind might not release the Note 4 for months after other carriers.
c) I can't buy one from T-Mobile even if I drive over the border to get one in person.
Seems like a pretty screwed-up system to me. Looks like I might as well just stay in the Nexus family and get the Nexus 6. Samsung sales are already down and with the iPhone 6 there are already reports of many people making the move to iOS now that they have bigger screens. Samsung needs to make the buying experience easier if they have any hope of staying in the game.

t-mobile/videotron/Wind.....same phone same band...
if my memory dont drive me wrong...t-mobile and videotron are on the 4g (hspda) 1700 band not sure about Wind however...

That makes sense to me but was that actually the case with the Note 3?I thought all Canadian carriers had the same W8 model?
