So I have a Nook Simple Touch tablet. My dad tried to root it but either bricked it or something else. It is flashing at where it says "Nook by Barnes & Noble" and it keeps flashing between the first two dots of the five and does that non stop. If somebody could tell me what that means and how I can fix it in Lame Mans terms because this is my first experience with a Nook. Thank You

The easiest way?
Use method 2.
http://nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch_restore_to_stock
This will format your nook and restore it to stock image. All data will be lost but your nook should get better.
After the procedure check what firmware version you have installed and if it's not 1.2.1 upgrade it using instructions on B&N site.
Thanks I will try this when I get home.

Hi, folks,
I just [successfully] did a factory reset using the usual procedures. Upon final reboot, it takes me through the initial Nook Color B&N setup and registration process, but after successful connection to wifi, and entering my email/password, the device fails to register with B&N with the following message;
"Sorry we're having trouble setting up your NOOKcolor. Please shutdown the device and try again. If the problem persists, contact Customer Support at ...."
I've tried to shutdown and register a few times now with the same message.
What's the best path at this point to get this device back up and running, either in the B&N rom, or preferably straight to a more generic Android rom if possible?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can point me in the right direction.

If you don't care about the stock rom just go ahead and use CM7. Check out the guide in my sig.

koopakid, you nailed it, I'm all setup. Thanks for that 'getting started' guide. CM7 internal is really fantastic.
Just to follow up with the error, there was a reason for this. When doing the steps to "restore to stock" the old fashioned way, I went in to de-register the device, and I do not believe it actually completed.
Because I was switching users (one family member to another) with this reset, B&N had to be involved to manually de-register the device, so I could finally register it properly under the new user. It did require me to provide B&N with the user information for the de-registration (the user giving up the device).
Dug up from the dead but probably useful to others as it is to me as I'm now being offered a "Factory Reset" after my Nook Color failed to boot many times (if memory serves the count is 8 failed boots?). I think I was runing CM7 (it's been a while) and I'm not sure why it refused to boot all of a suddent, hopefuly it's not a hardware problem...
Looks like I'm going to lose everything anyway if I have to reflash to CM7 (I saw posts about CM9 so that might be better?) so I'll give factory reset a shot and see what happens!

If you replace the stock recovery with CWM when you put CM7 on your device, the factory reset will not work. You might just try flashing a new ROM.

Thanks, in the end I went with stock v1.43+ ManualRooter 5.08 and so far so good!
Hi, i hope the answer to this is not anywhere else. I cannot recover my nook simple touch (glowlight). Here is what i did
1) I tried to root the device with this guide (not knowing that this is not for glowlight version)
http://nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch/Rooting
-> the process stopped at the instructions page and i rebooted
-> after that the device did this endless loop where i think it reboots during the moving dots
2) When i found out that i should have used this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675706
I followed that procedure as well but the device did not boot as it should after the installation of glownooter-1-5-26.zip
3) Then i found the guide to do the 8x reboot recover which did not work (or I did something wrong)
4) as everything failed I tried the reboot recover from CVM framework which resulted in a page saying: install failed
So my question is: is there a way to still recover my device? what can i do? if i missed some inportant info, plz ask.
Thx for any help
greets cloud

I'm in a similar situation with a bricked nook glow that won't get past "install failed" screen. Tried both methods described in the page you linked, but neither worked.
Is there anything else that can be done to revive the device? I tried almost every method I could find in the forums....
TIA
no glowlight

OK, here's my Beavis and Butthead moment for the week:
I finally got around to running / booting cm10-121208_acclaim_sd_hd.img from my flash card a couple of nights ago. Once I got it up and running I was looking around through the available programs on it and ended up running a flash upgrade utility on it that went out to the internet and downloaded some "upgrade". It asked me if I knew for sure what I was doing and like an idiot I hit YES. Now the touchscreen doesn't work at all. I've tried running / installing all kinds of things like :
bn_142_factory_recovery.zip
cm10_121208_acclaim_sd_hd.zip
cm-10-20121219-NIGHTLY-encore.zip
They all seem to run from SD OK but still no touchscreen function.
My new Nook specifics WERE : model number BNTV250 software version 1.4.3 when I got it a few days ago.
Is anyone here familiar enough with cm10-121208_acclaim_sd_hd.img who can tell me what flash utilities are on it? Or maybe tell me how to fix my Nook if possible?
Any help greatly appreciated.
You have a Nook Tablet. This is the Nook Color forum. There is a specific forum for the Nook Tablet. You'll get better help there.

Sorry, thanks for the info.
I tried to root my NST but didn't notice any change. After a factory reset the firmware downgraded to 1.0.1 then I tried to update it to latest but failed. Again did the factory reset with n2T-Recovery_0.1 and itself get rooted and now can use the ADW launcher. The font don't render properly in 1.0.1 so I decided to get latest unrooted frimware. Do to so I used CMW recovery and installed the Alpha-FormatTouch as mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475613 . The device will show the Restoring progress bar and after loading it will go to Read Forever screen and get stucked, tried it for several hours and inbetween I used the CMW option that says wipe/factory reset which I am pretty sure that I made a huge mistake. Also tried to restore with NookManager but same thing happened.
The problem is that I am stupid and didn't make backup of anything. I guess the nook's file system is now all messed up and apparently by not making backup I have permanently bricked it. I am done crying and regretting but still I believe that there might be a genius who knows how to fix it. I have waited to get an e-ink reader for over 2 years and this nook was a gift from a relative who lives outside so there is no chance of getting support from b&n. Please help
Now I have made a backup of my bricked nook using NookManger. And here are it contents: View attachment 2291535 Could there be any possibility to make a custom backup image or anything to unbrick it?
Method #3 on this page has worked for me in the past:
http://nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch_restore_to_stock
You sir are the most Awesome human being in the entire universe
You just saved my life. :victory: Lots of love
I think Nook Manager is the way to go, for me I have found it is the one the produces the most stable results.
Take your time to slowly go through the rooting procedure.
When you have done that you can follow this rather arcane procedure (carefully) and you should be able to get google maps and the market and everything else you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086582
When you have done that you can go on the market and install opera mobile classic and UC browser for great web browsing and twitter or facebook for social media stuff.
At every step, try not to get frustrated and don't panic if things go somewhat pear shaped. It's usually possible to get back to the start somehow as long as you don't mind losing all your data!
Good luck!

HI !
I have one of the old Nook Color's and I rooted it several times. While trying to update it, I accidentally hit some type button and thought I'd bricked it. I finally got
it back to stock, " AFTER " do the fix partitions thread. My question is, why won't the NC let me re-root it? The only thing I can manage to get on it now is Stock 1.2. It
won't even take a regular Barnes and Noble update to the 1.4 ?
Anything I can do?
