[Q] error 80180008 help how to cab - Omnia 7 General

Hello all. I am very sorry to bother you all but I have been trying to upgrade my phone for the last 4 months and have almost given up. I saw the film about noods and really left it to the last resort! have an OMNIA 7 on:
7.10.7740.16 trying to go to 8107 for now but would like to go to windows 7.8 if possible
Fimware: 2424.11.112
Boot loader 6.4.09
I tired Zune: got error 80180008
Asked Microsoft: no help
Read forums and tried cab sender to send 8107 (+ languages) by Heathcliff: got same error but now know a bit more helphowto.cab.pkr ERROR CODE: 0x80180008 invalid signature ) (. (thanks Heathcliff!)
Tried sending firmaware: worked!
Tried sending just language packs (got 6 on my phone) only partial loaded to 7.10.8099
I Read more on forum: tried sending certificates to phone by e-mail. Tried installing various certificates on computer. Tried sending a previous help how to cab (from previous O.S. cab via e-mail to phone (thought it might be missing). Tried partial unlock but, as expected, did nothing.
After reading more on this site, I have seen that the certificates have expired on the CAB files (downloaded from "force ugrade") and so guess it has nothing to do with phone or windows (tried windows xp, vista and 7 ultimate). Asking for a new cert. seems like playing tomb raider to me.

Phone works OK except for key board drop so it is not the end of the world I guess. As a last chance I would be to try seven eighter. I have seen that some people even stuck on 7720 have been able to upgrade. However, In one thread you said we can’t roll back. Another one you said it SHOULD be possible to burn a back up back to the phone.
I have seen other questions on ths and other forums about error 8018008 but I have not found an answer that helps.
I Know it is my problem but if someone could find the time to help to answer these questions:
1. to burn a back up back to the phone, will cab sender work ? I have read that zune does not.is there another tool? The tool heathcliff mentioned, does not work with the latest version zune.
2. I have seen other people on 7720 been able to go to 7.8 with seven eighter but I have seen they have had someproblems (I think mainly due to wrong language pack selection issues)-. Do you think it would work for me even if I get this error? If there was not a problem of rolling back I wold gve it a go.
3. Is there something else I can do (except buy a new phone)
Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong place or I have broken any rules un- intentionally !

Hi,
If you want 7.8, switch to custom rom => look at my signature.

Thanks I will read carefully and let you know. However, If I understand correctly though, the Magldr software unlocks my phone so I can load the immage ROM?
The only other doubt I have is about the memory on my phone. the Samsung site says nothing but an test report I found in WINDOSTECA says it should have 576mb RAM and 512MB ROM. Any one know if it is valid and if it is enough?......also where is the thanks button?
thanks again Misterxp

Yes Magldr unlocks your phone. Samsung omnia 7 as 512Mo of RAM and 8Go of memory, that's enough to install a custom rom.
512MB ROM is the size of the Rom (thus the system). This size can vary depending on the rom.
Thanks Button => http://i70.servimg.com/u/f70/17/66/30/68/captur14.png

problem solved
yippeeeeee
I solved the problem!
I decided that if flashing a custom ROM would solve it then so would flashing the official ROM. Hence I read all I could about official Samsung ROMS, chose the one which was not so old "I8700XXKC1_Many_PROVIDERS_NODO (7.10.7390), Chose the CSC for Italy because I live in Italy and then woke up one morning and went for it.
I followed all the instructions to the letter but had read them 100 times before! I formated the phone holding the Power + Volume DOWN + Camera buttons, followed the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973420 by Heathcliff and then, after all was done (went very smoothly, I connected to Zune and went all the way to 7.8. I had to cancel the update a couple of times because zune blocked but all went well in the end.
In between updates, I changed the names of the back up folder, so that zune created another in case I had to go back. I made this a habit in the past and meant I was sure I Always had a back up. (sometimes zune will cancel a backup if the process does not go correctly and, if you don't save back ups you end up with no back up!). When I finally got to 7.8 I used CAB SENDER to send an old CAB which I knew could not be installed and in that way I got a back up of my final version with all my apps installed. I did this because, once there are no more updates, zune does not install anything and so does not make a back up either. It is the easest way I have found but there may be another, I tried the various back up programmes but could never get them to work. I don't think my way does any harm to the phone but some one else more expert than me might know. The main thing I learnt is how important it is to have a back up and save the back up. It saved me a few times. Once, when trying other ways to fix the phone, I tried to restore with zune, but it kept giving an error. However, I managed with CAB SENDER. Once, another time, I got as far as 18% and even Cab sender kept giving an error. I took out the battery and waited a few minutes (before shooting my self!) and it worked! Anyway, thanks to you all at Xda and I will send a donation as soon as I get the chance to load Paypal. bye from Mister Xp

WHY ME??

First of all, I'd like to say this is the most positive and progressive forum I've ever joined on the internet so far. You guys not only rock, but also inspire, for which I would like to add to the THANK YOU chorus!
I have spent days and sleepless nights browsing this forum, trying to unlock my T-mobile MDA.
The details are:
-T-Mobile (USA)
-ROM Version: 3.14.40 ENG
-ROM Date: 11/26/02
-Radio Version: 6.18
-Protocol version: 324e4
-Model No.: PW10B1
-IMEI: 35031400086966009
I'm using the USB via the cradle. The XDA unlock gives me an error reading, which is not uncommon elsewhere in this forum. I had to download the SER v 1.2.
Upon download and installation, I copied (via OSImage Tool)as per instuctions and ran programme A, only to get the "error message 007 ....No ROM image file".
At this point I'm pretty exhausted, especially when I see other posts of people who successfully unlocked theirs. I give up on foguring it out myself, so I please need help. Apparently, I'm a total rookie in this field . It would be highly appreciated if someone can be kind enough to please give me a step-by-step guide on the entire process either by replying to this post in this forum or by anyother means to contact me (e-mail, IM, etc) through my profile. I'll have a great sense of achievement and happiness gaining my freedom by eventually unlocking my device this weekend before my trip next week.
Thank You and I appologise to anyone that might be offended by the length of this post
You can run the file from your desktop, make sure you are synced with the xda, it will update the rom through the usb port. Before you do this it would be a good idea to back up your current rom using the sd bootloader method. Once the special edition rom has completed, just poke the unscrewed top half of the stylus in the hole on the bottom right of your xda, just poke once, wait one minute then poke again. You should tehn have an unlocked xda, you can then restore your original rom by inserting the sd card with your original rom, entering bootloader and pushing the action key when prompted.
Thanks for the response. OK, first, what ecxactly is the bootloader and the "bootloader method'?
Secondly, I tried running the S E ROM and keep getting the error message relating to its inability to find the ROM image.
Where did you download from, what size is the file? The bootloader method is accesssed by pushing the reset with the stylus while holding down the power button, then press the top left key on front of xda, you will see options there, you will not see these options when you restore a ron from sd, all you need do is enter bootloader, the xda will ask if you wish to program the rom, you press the centre of the 4 way jog button and away it go's.
I downloaded from:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
It seems to be a 15.4MB file
The file size is correct, you should be able to sync your xda, click on the special edition rom .exe file and it should install to your xda using program a, there is need to use any other tools, as\long as you have a backup of\current rom you have a way back to your original configuration.
I have just downloaded and executed that same file, the first thing that comes up is winzip self extractor, once it has unzipped itself a dos box pops up, it then jumps to program a and commences the install, make sure you are running the file direct from the directory and not from a shortcut, it definitely works.
I did that and I keep getting that bewildering error code 7. Again, I tried unzipping the file first and then run prog A. It went fine until after step #3 then error code 12 pops up: "ROM image is not compatible with my device.............. download utility nd try again...."
This thing seems simple and works for everybody else but me
at this point, you should use winzip or winrar to extract a file named nk.nbf frim the exe you downloade. then to either use the XDAtools to copy it directly to your XDA ROM, or move the file to SD card using your xda then use the SD flashing method from the bootloader.
good luck ...
Good news & Bad news ...... I was able to run the SER prog. First, I ran the adaptrom file and then programme A. Everything was proceeding fine until it was about 50% and then my system (desktop) froze/crashed. I had no choice but to restart the system. Now the XDA screen has a display with a progress bar and the message: "Upgrading........ It will take about 5 mins.........."
It seems its a curse  but since I've made some progress, I cant give up now. So I'm determined to succeed by fixing this stuff. My question is Can someone please tell me where to go from here??????? As usual, your patient and kind response is highly appreciated.
Oh, I forgot to add that in addition, now ActiveSinc cannot establish communication with my device, even after restarting it several times and trying to get connected via its program
hey ... no big problem ... relax!
you have to get SD reader/writer and connect it to your PC. move the extracted nk.nbf file to the SD card then insert it into the XDA. goto the bootloader mode (power + soft reset) it should recognize the card content ... just press the middle of the rocker key (action) and you will see hex counter increasing from 000 to 200 ,.. at the end, press hard reset and after 60 sec press hard reset again.
note: make sure your XDA is > 80% charged before start!!
good luck.
Didnt Work
Did exactly as you suggested, but ending up with the same screen "uploading..... It will take about 5 minutes..." :?
Finally made it!!! Thanks guys for all your input. Device works fine, so far, I dont seem to have lost anything! I feel FREE, excited and victorious!!!! YEAHHH!!!!!

Newbz Rom/Cooking Questions & Answers

I'm a newb in the sense that I'm new to the whole Windows Mobile Devices. As my location of this thread, I have a T-Mobile Wing.
I'm a current web designer and I'm learning to program/code. Especially for mobile devices first. So I am computer literate just a newb using roms, windows mobile in general. I believe I can follow on very easily.
I will edit this post to add the answers and explain them in more details, etc. as I learn them for future cookers/newbies/etc.
I have searched around the forums, learned a lot but still have questions hopefully some pro cookers could answer and maybe use this as a ref for all beginner newbs. I have the link to the wing/herald xda wiki/atlas, etc.
BUT STILL....
I'm on Windows Vista 64 bit. Maybe this is my problems? I take that into possibility. Within a week I'll have XP back on this computer as well.
[1]
I understand if your SPL/IPL is above 4.0+ you can hardspl your device. (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HARDSPL YOUR DEVICE IF IT IS UNDER 4.0! IT WILL BRICK IT!)
I aslo heard of a uspl method where it hardspls your deivce JUST FOR THE NEW ROM YOU"RE INSTALLING.
I read that hardspl will hardspl your device forever but since then it's now reversable correct? Just curious about this, not a big deal either way.
NEWBS IF YOU WANT TO CHECK YOUR IPL/SPL VERSIONS : take your stylus out and soft reset your device by pushing your stylus into the small hole just under the volume slider on the left side of your phone and hold the camera button as it boots up until you see 3 grad colors. red blue, etc. it will then display your version numbers.
[2]
I wanted to learn how to cook, since I felt it wouldn't be too hard since I have a good background with computers, etc.
So.... I started following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341243
I found a few others including the ones displayed with the hypercore download thread. But I stuck with this one as a first attempt and have not tried any others yet. I know I should but this one just bugged me, haha.
I did all steps accurately and did them again to double check...... but when I go to BuildOS.exe the top of the screen displays:
"the system cannot find the batch label specified"
Is this bad? I remember reading a long time ago about the format being unix and not dos, yatta yatta it would bring this error up but that can NOT be the possibility since everyone else has used this guys thread to create custom roms. Any ideas?
[3] (Cont'd from Question [2])
I also get some error trying to do step 2 in the BuildOS.exe menu, which is.... build OS.nb from SYS and Oem..... that error is file not specified... so i believe it has something to do with the batch error at the top, maybe? Ive tried this step 2 several times and actually got it to work and displayed new os.nb is saved in hypercore/build.... which i went there and didnt see it, but i see one inside the ROM folder... I assume this is the one I want? Perhaps?
[4] (Cont'd from Question [2])
When I try option number 3 in the BuildOS.exe menu I get this message
Save to desktop as........ as what? lol. I assumed the same name, leave it the same.... well the OS.nb was not at the location it specified. (hypercore/tools/convert) lol.
Again tho the save as problem.... I believe it all has to do with the batch file, it's like not fetching/displaying the file name.... if not it meant to leave it the same name? Anyway why is it not in the location specified?
[5]
This is what it displays after clicking enter, of course again no RUU folder found, I figured this with the previous errors. But heres what the flash option in the BuildOS.exe menu does err.... rather displays......
Again Place the _____ here..... still all the batch file problem?
[6]
Again dealing with this screen, is it ok that after Device: its blank? aka not displaying the propper htc model for the wing 3450 or whatever it is, I forget.

[Q] Can't update to Mango

Hi,
Here is my problem, i have HD2 device:
Error:
Update device 7079645b - b554a543 - 6dfa84f0 - d945b9cb Complete with error code: 80180089, error message: Disaster recovery plugin error: Couldn't create a backup because your phone's registry settings are incorrect.
Failed with code: 80180089
Thanks
Your problem is, that you cant read or think
You have a hd2, thats not an official windows phone 7 device.
you can either search for the dft-build of mango (very early version) or wait for someone to build a full functional rom for our hd2.

short an too the point, love it!
Sometimes it really surprises me how some people even manage to turn their devices on never mind flash WP7 to their device.
@ OP
Ofoucrse you cant update, You dont have a WP7 device so how on earth do you expect to get teh correct files you need via update?????
What you have is a modified version of a rom designed to boot on your device you need to manually add a new rom to your device. How do you think you are going to get teh correct files vis official update, magic fairy dust???

Zune updates or 1shot cab install - which is easier method to install BTTF

Which forumla/guide worked best for you with less complications?
Can you pinpoint why fellow xda'ers are experiencing problems? And why is it not as straightforward as it suggests?
What did you do different? Is the sd card the main cause?
Feel free to add Your thoughts and Any tips as reading through 300 odd pages can be too much sometimes
Thanks for your input am sure it will help others trying
Zune uodates doesnt work all the way to mango (for me at least) so im trying the 1 shot now
Not even with the lastest official release of mango?

In my opinion one shot is better and faster.Quickest way to get to official"Mango"
This is what I did, first
Please if you've not flashed wp7 rom before you'll need to read a guide on how to do that before. Thanks
What you need:
Yuki native v2 (7004)
7004-7720 (one shot)
wp7 update cab sender.zip(wp7 cabsenderwinxpfix.zip -if you're using win xp-read further on this in the thread)
Device provisioning.cab
You must have zune
All in first post of Yuki-Xbmod "Back to Future"
Steps:
1.Install Yuki native v2 (7004)
2.Follow on screen instructions and set time zone, date and time.
NB:make sure it corresponds to that on the PC
3.leave the phone on don't power off, connect USB from PC to phone-
**Time to install 7720**
4.At PC, enter wp7 update cab sender folder
5.Go to "if needed install this tool" folder
6.Install setup - update wp(x64 for 64bits windows or x86 for 32bits windows)
NB:You can verify this at the Device manager on the PC
7.Copy device provisioning.cab to wp7-update-cab sender folder. Important,please don't extract this(device provisioning cab)
8.Run wp7 update cab sender.bat
9.Then on the PC keyboard, type s-(s)end cabs to device
10.After finished installing close wp7 update cab sender
11.Delete device provisioning.cab (ie. the one you copied into wp7 update cab sender)
12.Open wp7 7004-7720-patch.zip
13.Copy all the cab files to wp7 update cab sender folder
14.Run wp7 update cab.sender.bat again
15.As usual type s-(s)end cabs to device
NB:I believe it depends on you SD Card it should take about 1hr to 2hrs. In my case 1hr.
16.After installation reset your phone (ie. Go to about) it's important.
17. YOU ARE DONE. YOU NOW HAVE RTM 7720 YUKI-XBMOD
You can now proceed to do the official thing if you like on Zune.
You can checkout jayceooi at his blog or watch his video tut on YouTube if still not convinced.
I hope it helps.
I flashed the BTTF ROM V2.0 when it came out. And updated to 7392 via Zune. I didn't bother with all that other stuff. Frankly it was too much work and risk for me. I had a difficult time even getting BTTF to flash and enough was enough. I decided to wait for the official release of Mango and hoped the HD2 would get an official update.
Having said all that, when Mango was released I never got the update message. So I tried the 'disconnect' trick. It didn't work. I found no posts here on XDA saying if any other HD2 owners were able to get it via the 'disconnect' trick so I didn't put much effort into it.
I read somewhere in that uber long BTTF thread about installing the Mango beta via Zune to get Mango up and running, and I did that. Right now I am running version 7.10.7720.68 and loving it. Not sure if that's the official release or not, but its working for me.
Basically, I installed BTTF V2.0 as directed but stopped there. Then, once updated via Zune I waited for Mango to be released. When that didn't work I found the following -
http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/get_the_mango_update_now._without_being_a_developer.-06-30-11
Make sure you have Zune 4.7 NOT 4.8 installed or it won't work. Also, sometime during the update process you will be prompted to update to the latest Zune software - DO NOT DO THIS. Wait until your phone is completely updated via Zune, then it's okay to update to 4.8. The entire process took about 2 hours for me. You will need to be patient.
Lastly, when you connect to 4.8 for the first time after above method you will be prompted for another update. Do that, it just cleans a few beta files up or something. When I did it the software stopped responding and the phone froze, but I let the software run its course and it eventually said connection to phone lost. When I disconnected and pulled the battery it started up just fine and I got a successful update message.
Good luck

[Q] In need of help to ID my phone...I do not wish to brick.

I am not a total noob at flashing a phone, but I do not wish to blindly run into something, and find I am over my head. (used to flash my HTC Typhoon)
History:
I got my phone from AceGSM, Unlocked HD2 ( Vancouver,BC,Canada), which shipped from Hong Kong, to me here in Ontario. I am on the Rodgers network. I did not know at the time the model I ordered was not 3G here. I can live with Edge.
I tried some time ago to move up to WinMo 6.5X, however anything I tried I must have been using all wrong files. I got an error message and stopped, and never did upgrade.
So I would like to now step up to WinPhone 7.5....but I would like to do tjis right.
So I have snapped a couple of pics in the hope someone can direct me, id phone and what I will require to get going. ( I hate to see invalid model errors).
Many Thanks in advance for any direction that can be given !!!!
A mod can delete this one, as I made it to 7.5.
( I did not see delete option).....
Hi there.
I feel your pain ...i too have a bit of experience flashing phones ( Xperia X1, N8) and now have a HD2 running WP7.5
There's almost too much information ( if there is such a thing) here in XDA and reading 500 + pages at 10 posts a page is a very time consuming hobby
After getting in all kinds of trouble with my HD2 i have the following advice and its just my opinion of course!
Do a little research to try and determine which rom you want. The main ones with the most active posts / responses are easy to find. But when you have made your choice ....stick with it. I got into all kinds of problems when hopping from one ROM thread to another.
Most roms have a step by step on how to prepare and flash. Stick to them as well.
First step for me was to back up any important data on my phone. Then completely format the SD card ( on a PC with card reader) so its squeaky clean.
Then make sure your PC is set up so it doesn't go into sleep mode or screen saver while you are flashing.
Then go to the HTC website and get the latest original updated rom for your phone to get it back to bare bones basic.
Then, without installing the SD card ( not sure if it matters at this stage), install HSPL4 then MAGLDR then a radio of your choice ( i used 2.15_50_14)
After each step (flash) i always reboot my phone just to be safe.
Then flash the rom of your choice.
There are pretty much tutorials on every step. Patience and good use of the forum search function does wonders.
Good luck

oh and one more thing that took me by surprise is that you cant sync contacts /calenders etc in any WP7 phone / USB connection
It all has to be done via "the cloud" SO while you are patiently waiting for your phone to flash ...use the time to set up a windows live account or google gmail.
When you have that done and your contacts sync'd online the phone set up is a piece of cake
Does it have to be a live or will a hotmail do??
I tried to enter hotmail account and I have been hit with the activation code request.
i think your going to hit the activation code issue whatever you do. There may be a way around it ...use the forum search ...theres quite a few posts on the subject
You can get in touch with MS to get the activation code . it worked for me just 2 weeks ago. They asked me to email them a picture of my phone and then they sent the code. As i live in Singapore i was directed to the Malaysian help desk so i just called them.
I use MS outlook and for this there is a "hotmail connector" which you can download from MS.
Hi,
I've did it with this PDF file:
http://htcfanboys.com/download/pdaimatejam/?action=view&file=2669
And I used his ROM to install.
When you have done step 0.5 and 1.
It is really easy to flash.
Step 2 is always active when you are done with the first two steps.
Also when you want to install a new ROM.
Download ROM:
