Newbz Rom/Cooking Questions & Answers - Wing, P4350 General

I'm a newb in the sense that I'm new to the whole Windows Mobile Devices. As my location of this thread, I have a T-Mobile Wing.
I'm a current web designer and I'm learning to program/code. Especially for mobile devices first. So I am computer literate just a newb using roms, windows mobile in general. I believe I can follow on very easily.
I will edit this post to add the answers and explain them in more details, etc. as I learn them for future cookers/newbies/etc.
I have searched around the forums, learned a lot but still have questions hopefully some pro cookers could answer and maybe use this as a ref for all beginner newbs. I have the link to the wing/herald xda wiki/atlas, etc.
BUT STILL....
I'm on Windows Vista 64 bit. Maybe this is my problems? I take that into possibility. Within a week I'll have XP back on this computer as well.

I understand if your SPL/IPL is above 4.0+ you can hardspl your device. (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HARDSPL YOUR DEVICE IF IT IS UNDER 4.0! IT WILL BRICK IT!)
I aslo heard of a uspl method where it hardspls your deivce JUST FOR THE NEW ROM YOU"RE INSTALLING.
I read that hardspl will hardspl your device forever but since then it's now reversable correct? Just curious about this, not a big deal either way.
NEWBS IF YOU WANT TO CHECK YOUR IPL/SPL VERSIONS : take your stylus out and soft reset your device by pushing your stylus into the small hole just under the volume slider on the left side of your phone and hold the camera button as it boots up until you see 3 grad colors. red blue, etc. it will then display your version numbers.
[2]
I wanted to learn how to cook, since I felt it wouldn't be too hard since I have a good background with computers, etc.
So.... I started following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341243
I found a few others including the ones displayed with the hypercore download thread. But I stuck with this one as a first attempt and have not tried any others yet. I know I should but this one just bugged me, haha.
I did all steps accurately and did them again to double check...... but when I go to BuildOS.exe the top of the screen displays:
"the system cannot find the batch label specified"
Is this bad? I remember reading a long time ago about the format being unix and not dos, yatta yatta it would bring this error up but that can NOT be the possibility since everyone else has used this guys thread to create custom roms. Any ideas?
[3] (Cont'd from Question [2])
I also get some error trying to do step 2 in the BuildOS.exe menu, which is.... build OS.nb from SYS and Oem..... that error is file not specified... so i believe it has something to do with the batch error at the top, maybe? Ive tried this step 2 several times and actually got it to work and displayed new os.nb is saved in hypercore/build.... which i went there and didnt see it, but i see one inside the ROM folder... I assume this is the one I want? Perhaps?
[4] (Cont'd from Question [2])
When I try option number 3 in the BuildOS.exe menu I get this message
Save to desktop as........ as what? lol. I assumed the same name, leave it the same.... well the OS.nb was not at the location it specified. (hypercore/tools/convert) lol.
Again tho the save as problem.... I believe it all has to do with the batch file, it's like not fetching/displaying the file name.... if not it meant to leave it the same name? Anyway why is it not in the location specified?
[5]
This is what it displays after clicking enter, of course again no RUU folder found, I figured this with the previous errors. But heres what the flash option in the BuildOS.exe menu does err.... rather displays......
Again Place the _____ here..... still all the batch file problem?
[6]
Again dealing with this screen, is it ok that after Device: its blank? aka not displaying the propper htc model for the wing 3450 or whatever it is, I forget.

WHY ME??

First of all, I'd like to say this is the most positive and progressive forum I've ever joined on the internet so far. You guys not only rock, but also inspire, for which I would like to add to the THANK YOU chorus!
I have spent days and sleepless nights browsing this forum, trying to unlock my T-mobile MDA.
The details are:
-T-Mobile (USA)
-ROM Version: 3.14.40 ENG
-ROM Date: 11/26/02
-Radio Version: 6.18
-Protocol version: 324e4
-Model No.: PW10B1
-IMEI: 35031400086966009
I'm using the USB via the cradle. The XDA unlock gives me an error reading, which is not uncommon elsewhere in this forum. I had to download the SER v 1.2.
Upon download and installation, I copied (via OSImage Tool)as per instuctions and ran programme A, only to get the "error message 007 ....No ROM image file".
At this point I'm pretty exhausted, especially when I see other posts of people who successfully unlocked theirs. I give up on foguring it out myself, so I please need help. Apparently, I'm a total rookie in this field . It would be highly appreciated if someone can be kind enough to please give me a step-by-step guide on the entire process either by replying to this post in this forum or by anyother means to contact me (e-mail, IM, etc) through my profile. I'll have a great sense of achievement and happiness gaining my freedom by eventually unlocking my device this weekend before my trip next week.
Thank You and I appologise to anyone that might be offended by the length of this post
You can run the file from your desktop, make sure you are synced with the xda, it will update the rom through the usb port. Before you do this it would be a good idea to back up your current rom using the sd bootloader method. Once the special edition rom has completed, just poke the unscrewed top half of the stylus in the hole on the bottom right of your xda, just poke once, wait one minute then poke again. You should tehn have an unlocked xda, you can then restore your original rom by inserting the sd card with your original rom, entering bootloader and pushing the action key when prompted.
Thanks for the response. OK, first, what ecxactly is the bootloader and the "bootloader method'?
Secondly, I tried running the S E ROM and keep getting the error message relating to its inability to find the ROM image.
Where did you download from, what size is the file? The bootloader method is accesssed by pushing the reset with the stylus while holding down the power button, then press the top left key on front of xda, you will see options there, you will not see these options when you restore a ron from sd, all you need do is enter bootloader, the xda will ask if you wish to program the rom, you press the centre of the 4 way jog button and away it go's.
I downloaded from:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
It seems to be a 15.4MB file
The file size is correct, you should be able to sync your xda, click on the special edition rom .exe file and it should install to your xda using program a, there is need to use any other tools, as\long as you have a backup of\current rom you have a way back to your original configuration.
I have just downloaded and executed that same file, the first thing that comes up is winzip self extractor, once it has unzipped itself a dos box pops up, it then jumps to program a and commences the install, make sure you are running the file direct from the directory and not from a shortcut, it definitely works.
I did that and I keep getting that bewildering error code 7. Again, I tried unzipping the file first and then run prog A. It went fine until after step #3 then error code 12 pops up: "ROM image is not compatible with my device.............. download utility nd try again...."
This thing seems simple and works for everybody else but me
at this point, you should use winzip or winrar to extract a file named nk.nbf frim the exe you downloade. then to either use the XDAtools to copy it directly to your XDA ROM, or move the file to SD card using your xda then use the SD flashing method from the bootloader.
good luck ...
Good news & Bad news ...... I was able to run the SER prog. First, I ran the adaptrom file and then programme A. Everything was proceeding fine until it was about 50% and then my system (desktop) froze/crashed. I had no choice but to restart the system. Now the XDA screen has a display with a progress bar and the message: "Upgrading........ It will take about 5 mins.........."
It seems its a curse  but since I've made some progress, I cant give up now. So I'm determined to succeed by fixing this stuff. My question is Can someone please tell me where to go from here??????? As usual, your patient and kind response is highly appreciated.
Oh, I forgot to add that in addition, now ActiveSinc cannot establish communication with my device, even after restarting it several times and trying to get connected via its program
hey ... no big problem ... relax!
you have to get SD reader/writer and connect it to your PC. move the extracted nk.nbf file to the SD card then insert it into the XDA. goto the bootloader mode (power + soft reset) it should recognize the card content ... just press the middle of the rocker key (action) and you will see hex counter increasing from 000 to 200 ,.. at the end, press hard reset and after 60 sec press hard reset again.
note: make sure your XDA is > 80% charged before start!!
good luck.
Didnt Work
Did exactly as you suggested, but ending up with the same screen "uploading..... It will take about 5 minutes..." :?
Finally made it!!! Thanks guys for all your input. Device works fine, so far, I dont seem to have lost anything! I feel FREE, excited and victorious!!!! YEAHHH!!!!!

XDA's from Hell. Help needed.

Let me start out with a disclaimer; if you don't care, skip to the next paragraph: I like to consider myself fairly technically minded. I would like to think I am above average intelligence, especially when it comes to electronics. I am near my wits end with these two devices; they are very near ending up as expensive fish bowl ornaments! I searched, and as much as I have tried I cannot find the answers to my questions. The problem I believe is the slight language barrier this site displays; not that I view this as a bad thing, it is just a tad harder to get a point across if English is your second language. At least, if you're speaking to a native English speaker. End monologue.
1. How do I load the Special Edition ROM from an SD card? Yes, I've read the links. I have .exe file which appears as a ZIP file in windows. Unable to locate instructions on what to do with this particular file. I fully intend to write a walkthrough for dummies once I've finished this ordeal. Or perhaps there is already one out there?
2. The unlock program proved to be useless on BOTH PHONES. How's that for luck? Thus my above question.
Phone 1:
ROM Version A.20.17 ENG
Radio Version: A.20.10
Phone 2:
ROM Version: 3.14.03 ENG
Radio Version: 6.12
Thank you for your patience and time.
In an unrelated problem, it seems when I load the OSTools on my XP computer it is unable to run due to a missing DLL? How quaint. I will post exactly what it is missing later.
missing dll
Got the same problem before with the missing dll. just install ACTIVE SYNC. it would solve the problem.
I found my problem.
See, I had no interest in actually using these phones; they were gifts for others. I prefer to stick to my tried and true Treo 650 (which I have affectionatly named 'Princess,' for the main reason it's a whiny *****.) It never occured to me that I would have to install Active Sync, especially when I was trying to unlock from an SD card. No where that I could find was it mentioned that you first needed to install active sync to run the ROM updater. One should never assume that the person reading an article of instruction would know this. Instead, most places I looked, it simply said 'install' the ROM. I will have my Unlock for Dummies up shortly. Thanks all for the great info provided here on this site.

Will someone answer?

OK SO .. This is like my 3rd or 4th thread.... Apparently no one answers. Again i have read the noob thread on rom flashing and hdsplpslr or whatever the hell that is. Can someone please step by step tell me what to do to get rid of this horrid slowness and freezing of my htc hd2. Im seriously ready to call up TMO and tell them to take the phone back and go with sprint wait for the evo to come out. I really have no clue how to do this uhh Rom flashing even after reading that noob thread.. Anyone?
I have not flashed a winmo rom in a long time(been using an android phone till I got the hd2).
If you just want to fix the slowness and crashing turn off sense. That is what caused crashing on both of my HD2 phones and the replacement ones I received last week. If you want a nice looking gui install spb shell. It crashes on mine, but not on the other one. Good luck

If you don't want to read/can't understand the instructions/are not willing to spend a couple of weeks tweaking your device, just do that. Will be easier for us all, and you too
wow
thanks for Obvious....

Agreed with Kilrah. Look man, as you can see I just pretty much joined this and didnt even know what flashing was until I got my HD2. If you honestly read the n00b guides you cant go wrong. I dont see what you could be missing? It took me a couple days to line everything up and be confident in what I was doing but the main thing of importance is the HPSL part. After that its honestly just downloading, hooking up and letting the program do itself. So as kilrah said, if n00b guides, youtube videos, etc. arent cutting it for you, I would suggest taking it back.
Im guessing no one has answered due to the fact that: What more can be said that an in depth n00b guide hasnt ?????
Good luck.
I will repost what I posted in your other thread...
"Can you tell what ROM/Radio/Manila version you are currently on?
(Go to settings/about phone/software information)"
If you can't be bothered to answer me, I won't bother trying to help you.
I'll help as best I can: (the links in this thread assume that you are using the European version of the HD2 as you posted this thread in the Euro Version.)
Step 1: Download HSPL2_RUN.zip for the European Leo here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
Step 2: Turn on phone while holding the the volume down key, the phone should boot into an odd looking tri-color screen
Step 3: Plug phone into USB port on computer.
Step 4: Extract the HSPL2_RUN.zip file to a folder.
Step 5: Open the folder you extracted the file to and run HSPL2_RUN.exe.
Step 6: Follow the on screen instructions until finished, it should say something along the lines of "successfully done."
Step 7: If you are immediately going to download and change ROM leave the phone in bootloader and download compatible ROM of choice: from here (note this thread again assumes your using a European or Asian LEO because that is the section you posted this thread in.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
Step 8: If you need to (note: and only if you need to but you shouldn't) update your radio please go here and download it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Step 9: Open the folder (if it's a .zip extract it) of the ROM you downloaded and run CustomRUU.exe or whatever similarly named file is present.
Step 10: Follow the onscreen instructions.
Step 11: If administered correctly the phone should automatically restart and presto new ROM.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
I am not responsible for what happens to your phone. BY FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE YOU ADMIT THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS. I have to put this for all of those people who will mess it up by not following it, then blame me. Good luck and enjoy whatever ROM you decide to use.

P.S. If anybody has anything to add to this post please let me know and I will be happy to add it for the OP's sake.

The radio is a software that's installed on the phone which controls how the antenna operates. This means that you can get better signal/call quality/stability and this all links into battery life aswell.
Different radios will give you different results based on the location you are in.
You need to flash an appropriate radio (specified by the ROM you want to download) as some ROMs have settings which apply only to a specific radio (for example the 576MB RAM patch)
To get out of the tri colour screen just press the little red button just below the battery.
Remember to perform a task 29 before flashing to format your device.

Good catch on the task 29 and radio explanation. Also good call on the contacts. Save your contacts to SIM or back em up. On getting out of the tricolor bootloader, the red button or just pulling and reinserting the battery will work (although the button is easier lol.)
When it comes to radio, the ROM chef will USUALLY tell you what radio he/she is using...hint at the usually part. If the ROM thread doesn't say, ask the dev they'll usually tell ya.

All the answer info given to your original question is readily accessible from the search function.
And the snappy title "will someone answer" will put more people off than make them interested in assisting.
Theres a learning curve involved in the getting to know the HD2 and its steep at times. You will have to decide whether its too steep for you.

A guide to tweaking your X2.

Disclaimer: I am not knowledgeable about phones. I do not code and nor do I usually do what I describe in this post. The contents herein was put together by me in order to avoid confusion for people with the same interest as myself, making my X2 work better/faster or just plain customized. Because of this, I've made a few assumptions and also only described the way that worked for me.
This guide is based on the collective work of forum users, I take no credit or responsibility for its accuracy other than the fact that it worked for me.
This is only the installation steps, they are not specific to my knowledge. There are other guides out there for changing your language and doing more advanced thing, but this is just the basics. At least they are to me. Let us begin.
-----------------
Hello and welcome, this post is meant to guide you through the process of customizing the installation of your Xperia X2. My hope is that it will make your phone more responsive, but more importantly give you the option of deciding what you want installed.
The first thing we're going to be doing is to get ahold of the right files to install on your X2. Thankfully these files have been made availiable to us by PavelX1 in his post "NEW ORIGINAL X2 ROMS + Extracted CABs update 14.6.2010"*
Don't let the number and letter jumble intimidate you, on your own X2 the information you need to find the right package is found at Settings -> System -> Unit Information**. Here you'll find a bunch of numbers and letter combinations, if you look closely some of these will correspond to the names of the files availiable by PavelX1. Find the one that corresponds to your unit.
In my case it said that the following:
Software ID: 1230-2397
Software Version: R3AA035
Customization ID: 1231-4911
Customization version : R20A
Language Region: GENERIC_SE
I therefore searched for the following file which matched my information :X2_1230-2397_GENERIC_SE_R3AA035_CDF1231-4911_R20A.rar. Below that file was the file we're interested in for this particular guide. The GENERIC_*your language*_*version*_CABS.rar which in my case was named GENERIC_SE_R3AA035_CABS.
Now what we're going to do is get your computer prepared. Please download the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) available at their website.
If this is the first time connecting your X2 to your computer it might want to install some drivers in order for your computer to communicate with your phone, this is irrelevant to this guide but I mention it in order to let you know that this is normal and you have done nothing wrong.
Once we can connect to our phone and use its memorycard (which I assume you have) we will open the GENERIC_*your language*_*version*_CABS.rar and extract its contents into it. It has been suggested that you throw in an extra file together with the others availiable in the post "Want a fix for the X2? Only us can do it." on page 3.
We may now move on.
If you already have SEUS installed it was suggested by royalbloodvi in his thread "[TESTED 100% WORKING] Quickest way to get MR2 for those of you who can't get it!" that you remove the following folder C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db from your computer. I haven't tried any other way so I'll leave that bit of info as is.
Now we can begin the install process, this will take a little while so don't be in a hurry. It's important that you do not do this on a phone with an empty battery as it may interrupt the install process and cause problems, charge it before you do this. You may also want to backup any files important to you on the phone as they will be removed in this step. As an extra precaution you may want to remove the sim card as well.
Now that we're ready, go to Settings -> System -> Clear phone memory and press it. You'll have reset your phone to its original, empty, state. Connect your phone to your computer, if you haven't already, and begin the update process. SEUS might tell you that your phone is already up to date, this may be true, but we don't WANT it to be up to date, we want to decide what it is updated WITH so click update anyway.
Your phone will reboot. Disconnect your phone from your computer and open the backside of your phone by sliding the lock switch and removing the cover. Remove the stylus and you will see a small depression at the top left that was shidden by it. This is the hard-reset button for your phone which we will be using in a moment. Untill then you wait. Your phone will ask you to calibrate it after the sony logo has shown up. Calibrate the screen and your phone will start installing .cab files. quickly go to the hard-reset we mentioned a moment ago and press the tip of the stylus to it. A click was heard on my X2 when I pressed it and I assume the same is true for yours.
Now your phone will reboot, you will notice that it looks markedly different from what it did before this procedure. Don't worry, we can fix that if you like, but first we must address the window that has popped up and asked if you wish to try the install again. No, no we don't. Click no.
We are now freed from the shakles of oppression that is preinstalled and unremoveable software and may begin installing the files we WANT.
GO to the file explorer and select Storage Card and you will see all of the files we extracted to it previously. In order for you to know which ones you want I suggest that you go to the second page in the thread "Want a fix for the X2? Only us can do it." to get an overview of what the individual files do. Installing them is as simple as clicking them and selecting to what part of the phone you want them installed, I choose to install all of these files to my phone and not my memory card.
Now, to get your phone looking like it did before you did this (assuming you didn't use a panel but a standard theme) you will spot three theme files called X2_Saturn.cab (which is the one I use that looks like the stock one) X2_Saturn_Light.cab (which I don't know what the difference is) and X2_Titan.cab (which I also don't know what it looks like).
And that's that, you're done and hopefully your phone is more to your likeing.
--------------
Here is a shorter step by step guide without the filling, unceremoniously "borrowed" from royalbloodvi and slightly reformatted. Please read the full guide and use this only as a quick procedure guide.
1) Reset your phone.
2) Unpack the GENERIC_*your language*_*version*_CABS.rar to your phones memory card and add the multifix.cab found on this site.
3) Open SEUS, start a new update. Even if it says you have the latest version you want to do it update anyway.
4) Once your phone reboots the calibrations screen will appear. After calibration it will start applying .cab files. Now push the reset button that is hidden behind your stylus and battery cover and it will reboot again.
5) You may now find the files you wish to install on your phones memory card in the file explorer.
*I, as I am a new member, am not allowed to post links, thus the name of the forums from which this information is gleaned is named instead of a direct link.
**If this informations isn't named exactly the same as I have described it, but is merely similar, it could be because I've done a literal translation from Swedish to English.
Edit: I just noticed a very similar guide is available on the General section, which I overlooked. I feel like an ass now. This thread may removed at moderators leisure.

New to Android, Need Help to choose version, please!

I own HD2 from almost 3 years, i want to try something new with it, so i decided to put Android on the phone. I want to ask here, first, whats the difference between NAND and SD versions, NAND mean its going on the phone memory like the windows? Whats better/faster? Whats easiest to boot/install? I dont want to read all threads all night long, just want some good android rom, or few good android roms to try ... and some advice to be NAND or SD version ... and also, android 2 or 4? i dont know anything about android ... please help. Any advice will be appreciated!
It depends which is easier. I had a problem with partition SD for 4 partitions But with nand there might be problems for novice too. You have to flash HSPL, and then CLK (better than Magldr I think). But then it is easy. SD is on SD, so you have 2 systems at the same time: stock WM6.5 and android which you start by exe in WM. Nand roms fully replaces stock WM. I don't know which is faster, but I prefer NAND. If you are not going to play heavy games, then choose Android 4 with HWA, if just for phone and apps, then 2. And we cannot tell you which rom (system, one of many as you see ) is the best for you - everyone has to try it himself, my experiences might be different than yours If you want to know more, read tutorials or write here - I or someone else will help you.
PS I recommend you tytung's or dorimanx's rom. Or sense rom if you liked it in WM

well if people would follow the FORUM RULES AND SEARCH
and mods would be more worried about the 500 threads about the same thing and delete them instead of deleting 4 or 5 offtopic posts

come on man, if u find it frustrating to delete 500 posts quit the job man. Atleast dont ridicule the new people.
Anyways, to the person who asked, The NAND version is a bit difficult to install but as it is on internal memory, it is much faster and stable than the SD version. The sd version can be booted up anytime for your stock WinMo 6.5. so u have two Os at any one time. i wud go for NAND but if u are new to this first try SD versions.

He isn't a mod? Plus you're giving incorrect information. The NAND version is NOT difficult to install, if you just READ. Seriously people, this is exactly what I mean. Reading=good, and the internet contains almost anything you could possibly want to know if you look properly. This guide could not be simpler, even for a newbie like I was. I'm 15, and flashed Android on this phone when I was 14 (plus I don't do any computing or IT in school or anything) so as long as you speak English, you can understand this guide with ease.

I couldn't quite understand your first point (three commas doesn't really help me much) as there's a distinction between 'what are forums for but to look at?' and 'what are forums for but to look at people repeating the same old **** constantly'. Both are still wrong, but the first is far more correct. Forums are for sharing information with a wide variety of people. This includes of asking and having your questions answered, but it also includes SEARCHING the forum for your answer. These questions have already been asked and answered a tonne of times. If he searched he could have found the answer. I reckon that theoretically we could fit all of the different non ROM-specific questions which get asked here within just 5 pages at the very most, rather than having the forums span on for ages.

HTC + Android = PERFECT MATCH!!
Try starting by READING the guide, it's not that hard to do. Just follow the instruction and READ carefully. Dont skip the sentence if u don't want to Brick your phone.
+1 Vote for NAND Android
Anyway i can't tell what's perfectly right for you. U will have to try it your self.
I tried like 4-5 ROM until i found what's right for me. However if u can do it once, the rest is just a piece of cake.
Like the other guyz said. Nearly all problem that u have, someone had already post the solution for that keep searching if u encounter any trouble.
While you were arguing about my question, and writing long posts, instead of giving your advice ... i installed one NAND rom, Energy one, but i think it installed on the SD ... because it asked me to format 1024mb on the SD card, so it is not really a NAND one i think ... and also, it looks a little bit slow ... freezes from time to time, not so smooth as expected ... and i read many articles, but i just wanted an advice, why to try all roms, when you can tell me 1 - 2- 3 roms that worth the try? This forum is so full with information, that for new people like me its too difficult to see the important threads for our needs, thats why we ask you, the people being long time here, tried more of the roms, and read lall the things, because i dont want to loose mu life in reading here, for thing i can do for 10 min, and then never look back for it ... SO Finally, few people helped me, the rest was arguing ... and who is the smartest of all of you? Instead of writing long posts telling me to read, you can simply write 3 sentences ... I am using this rom, i tried this and this and are also good, NAND means on memory like windows, SD means on card, NAND is faster, read "This" thread it will help you with your problem ... its so simple to help people, do you think i need to read all this forum, to install and use android? and this is forum with live people, not internet book ... so asking is part of forum, so, i am new to android, not to forums and reading ... thats why ... stop telling people to stop asking, be nice, if you dont want to answer, then dont ... if you feel like you want to help, do it ... and you will save you alot of antystress pills! Peace

And if you found all of that information on your own, why did you have to bother creating this thread? Also, you just don't want to read do you? When you said 'format 1024mb on my SD card' you mean creating an SD-EXT partition. Again, if you had read carefully you would realise that this is necessary for Sense 3.5 builds on EU HD2s and you would know that that is a NAND ROM. I was confused about this at first as well, so what did I do? I did some READING and figured it out logically. Finally, if you're experiencing lag and stuff, try a lighter ROM such as a CM7/MIUI/CM9/AOKP ROM, Sense is very bloated and (IMO) too slow compared to CM9. Plus, CM9 has full HWA.
I can recommend NAND:
-Dorimanx 3.1.7 CM7 rom (install 3.1.7 and not 3.1.7.1 - broken script)
-Tytung's roms (there are some)
-TouchWiz roms (stable for me)
-And HWA roms, read about them, I use Nightlies and all right
And most roms, like Sense roms (including Energy) needs EXT partitions for additional data.
And better use cLK bootloader.
Thing is, posts with questions that don't have or hard to answer (can't be searched about) don't get any replies. :screwy:

Yep, that's basically one of the main reasons I dislike it when people post unnecessary threads. Not only does it clutter up the forum but it also shoves other people with genuine problems off the first page, and their questions are unanswered. This most certainly isn't fair in my opinion.
Here you go...

I posted this a while back and was written like it was going to be your very first attempt at putting android on your phone. You can still follow this guide from step one till the end to make sure your doing everything correctly... Hope this helps and if it does hit up that thanks button at sometime.
(Im attaching most of the files you need at the end of the post. You'll have to find the radio, step 2, yourself because i cant compress it enough to fit under the 8mb attachment limit on xda. This is just in case you dont have them already or your not using the HD2 Toolkit)
THESE STEPS ARE TO BE DONE AFTER THE OP INITIAL PREREQUISITES i.e. windows mobile device center, activesync, proper spl version...
FOR NAND
--------the following steps (1 - 3) are to be preformed while at the tri-color boot screen (easiest way to reach is to turn off your phone while its connected to your PC then immediately hold volume down button till you see it n wait for it to say usb in the white section).
(by the way your device will ALWAYS automatically restart itself after a couple seconds if it is shut down while plugged in via USB to either a wall/car charger or hooked up to a PC this is normal)
1. install hspl3/hspl4
-run the "HSPL3_PKG/HSPL4_PKG" file. should be the only one in there
-make sure you select 2.08.HSPL in the setup and go thru the wizard just like you would any other. It will only take a few moments to execute and once it finishes it will auto reboot your device. MAKE SURE AS SOON AS YOUR DEVICE TURNS OFF YOU HOLD DOWN ON THE VOLUME KEY IMMEDIATELY TO GET BACK TO THE TRI COLOR BOOT SCREEN.
2. install radio
-run the "customRUU" file with the HD2 icon in the radio of your choosing
-it will operate in a similar fashion as the HSPL3/4, automatically turning off device upon completion... make sure you hold down on the vol key again to get yourself back to the tri color boot screen.
3. install magldr113
-make sure your selecting "rom update utility" in the magldr113 file. dont run the "DAF" it wont work properly if you do and youll get errors
-BUT THIS TIME AS IT TURNS ITSELF OFF HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON ON YOUR DEVICE AS IT BOOTS UP UNTIL U GET TO MAGLDR AND CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN UNTIL YOU SEE ABOUT 12 DIFFERENT OPTIONS...
[B4. install CWM recovery [/B]
-go to option 5 "USB Flasher" and hit the green call key. wait a few moments till it shows USB....USB make sure the second usb pops up and your PC recognizes the connection. then when it does sync you get to......
-while still in the usb flasher mode above, simply run you desired CWM recovery which should the one your developer recommends for the builds as the requirements tend to vary from rom to rom.
-this is achieved by selecting the "DAF" file from the clockworkmod recovery your using
-and again this installer will shut off your device upon completion and HOLD DOWN THE POWER KEY LIKE ABOVE TILL YOUR BACK AT THE MAGLDR MAIN MENU (with options 1-12).
5. install rom
-go to option 8 "AD Recovery" and hit the green call button to enter into the CWM recovery u just installed
-after it loads up (GO!GO!GO!) go down to the "mounts and storage" option that is third from the bottom and hit the call key.
-once there go to the last option "mount USB storage" and hit the call key.
-give your PC a few moments to recognize the sd card for your device and choose to open it when your PC prompts with the regular file explorer or just find it and double click on the newly recognized drive (sdcard) if your PC doesnt auto prompt you.
-the new drive (sdcard) should be empty (depending...) then just find the desired rom you chose to use, right click on it and copy.....then over to the new drive (sdcard) and paste. might take a min or two depending on the roms size
-once the copying is complete hit the call button to "unmount" your sdcard then the back button on your device till your back at the CWM main screen
-go to the fifth option down and "install zip from sdcard" and hit the call button
-select the second option "choose zip from sdcard" and select the zip file you just copied to your sdcard. then it will begin to install the rom and all rom install times vary by build. some take a minute, some seem like they take forever.
-once installation is complete hit the back button till your back at CWM main screen and choose the last option which is to "power off"
-then tap the power button(if u unplugged it from usb otherwise it wil reboot by itself) to turn on your device and give it some time for the initial boot and load as it has to set up everything u just installed. subsequent boot wont take as long but again it can all vary from rom to rom.
-after initial load and a successful bootup you should arrive at ether the lockscreen or a startup screen. give the rom a few more mins to settle and dont hit any buttons. then unlock the device or skip through the startup options and get to the home screen. maybe give it another min to settle the launcher and the last bit of data and resist the urge to mess with the features. your gonna hate this but hold down the power button and select power off device from the popup men. i know it sucks but it is best practice when flashing roms and the like. after device shuts off wait a few seconds and turn it back on and let it reboot. should be faster this time and when u get to your lockscreen simply give it a few seconds to settle again, unlock and go to main launcher a wait a couple more seconds for it to finish settling and.....have fun!
Maybe its not so abridged but oh well tried my best to be as clear as possible so people can utilize their HD2 to its fullest potential.
HOPE THIS HELPS and lemme know if i need to edit any information.
Oh yeah and as for ROM selections give these a try:
CM7/gingerbread - Typhoon by Tyween, Dorimanx High End Rom by Dorimanx
Sense 3.x/gingerbread - Team blue Droid by Dansta, Sensation XL stock by carl 1961
CM9/ics - Unofficial AOKP for HD2 by Xylograph, Nexus HD2 ICS by Tytung
There are lots more to choose from, these are just some of the more notable ones that ive used.
DON'T post guides that are incorrect. @OP if you want a proper guide, followthis one. It's actually correct unlike the one posted above.

Well, I did ask (nicely) for corrections. So what part of this is wrong? I use this same procedure for every rom i flash, well plus/minus a few steps. Pretty sure this works as this has helped other people in the past. While Mskip's guide is very useful, to a beginner it can seem lil overwheling with all of the information he provides. Mine was supposed to be a quick run-thru of the steps.
So please inform me, with all that 15 yr old experience, what is not correct...

Not correct, HSPL is needed first. You only mentioned 'the OP prerequisites e.g. correct SPL version'. SPL isn't the same as HSPL, and the OP often doesn't contain info like this. Devs don't write guides on how to flash in all their ROMs, plus if this is a newbie guide you should mention this as step 1.
As well as this, Task29 is 100% useless in this case. When you unnecessarily suggest Task29s, people get into the habit of doing them every time they flash. This repeated writing of the NAND can eventually lead to bad blocks.

There have been many reports of file corruption when using this method to copy over a ROM. Also, why should the new drive be empty? This would imply you would have to delete the contents of your SD card in order to flash a ROM, which you don't.
Also, no mention of partitioning the SD card. You've listed Sense 3.x ROMs as recommended, yet you need an SD card partition to run these. A newbie would not know this of course and would probably end up creating a new thread about 'why isn't my ROM working?? '.
This guide, whilst you're obviously trying to do a good thing by helping people, would just confuse a newbie, not help them. By following it to the letter you'd probably incorrectly/unsuccessfully flash Android.
- I'm using IceCreamTosti v1.1a [AOKP B36][HWA][4.0.4][marc1706s_ics_0.1.1] by Xylograph.
anyway. all the great rom is the most viewed one i think.
but to define which ROM is the BEST is very difficult because TASTE is different hehehe.
Awww snap!, where do i start...

First off, I did say that i posted this elsewhere, soooo the OP that was referenced wasnt this threads OP or a devs OP, it posted in a different thread where the OP had a huge long guide that again had a lot of information to sort thru and mine was an attempt to streamline that process.
The spl version i spoke of was in reference to...
IMPORTANT: To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.0000, SPL 3.03.000 - courtesy of mskips guide
I thought a task29 would be good in this case because this OP in this thread said he had tried an sd card version or something or whatever he had done and it wasnt working very well so why not get everything off there he may have done. Also your task 29 causing bad blocks might be true, but its no different from flashing roms that write to nand or installing a bunch of apps n such. If i am not mistaken they all write to nand anyway as well, so by your logic you better be careful installing roms... might lead to bad blocks! OH NO!
If this is one of the first times you flash android to nand you probably dont have much or anything at all on your sdcard. Like i said I POSTED THIS ELSEWHERE for a quick step by step for a beginners. Ive been installing roms this way for a couple years on this device and have never had any problems with file corruption... only spoiled know it all little kids.
The CWM file i included has a 180 system layout which will work with most CM7 & CM9. I figured if it came to it and he need another version he could just edit the cfg file or find the correct one as a good number of devs will just include this in their OPs.
And yes step 3 is a little redundant because you have already (obviously) had to do this. I included it because i found that some people were just choosing the first option to install 2.08 and not 2.08hspl in the HSPL3/4 wizard. The redundancy was to make sure people are clicking the right option. I even did this once a year or so back and didnt catch my mistake right away.
And as for partitioning the sdcard for sense 3.x roms I was pretty sure that Dansta34 and Carl 1961 roms dont require this anymore as they trimmed down the roms and im pretty sure it isnt required for tmoUSA devices because of the increase in internal memory while the EU version did or does because it has half the space. Not sure on this because the last time i was running a sense3.x rom was last fall so there is a chance i was mistaken. Plus if you do need to create a ext3/4 partition im pretty sure its stated in the roms OP.
Next time you flash a rom go ahead and follow the above steps and i bet you it works.
And you started the patronizing by the way you have chosen to respond to sadmind's posts... thats that whole pot calling the kettle black thing...
So quit trolling threads and further clogging them up with your know it all nonsense... a sign of your immaturity. Instead of helping the guy with a post or two YOU clog threads up by being unhelpful and repeating the "its posted elsewhere so look for it" line. Its a quick way to get over a thousand posts thats for sure! And why waste your time posting in this thread anyway if you not gonna help. Just ignore the question and move on already. Damn kids!
