Being a longtime reader of the forums, I figured I should finally post. What better subject for that foray than my personal frustrations? I wasn't sure if I should put this in Android general or this board.
Some time ago I purchased a MoKo Bluetooth keyboard case (look it up, because I'm not allowed to post links) for my Nexus 10 after doing a spot of research and hearing some good things, even here on XDA. Upon receiving it, I encountered severe problems, and after far too much troubleshooting and research, I still am: I cannot for the life of me get the thing to pair with my Nexus 10, or my S II, or my friend's S II. The only time it connected successfully was when my Nexus 10 somehow mistook it for a game controller. It was fully functional, but prone to bugging out. I had the keyboard replaced, wondering if I'd just received a faulty item, but I'm still experiencing the exact same issues: whenever I try pairing, the passkey prompt appears for a varying amount of time before vanishing with the error message "failed to pair with Bluetooth Keyboard because of an incorrect PIN or passkey." Sometimes it also just says "failed to communicate with Bluetooth Keyboard." It happens regardless of input, so even if I do manage to type the passkey and hit enter, it doesn't matter.
I have tried helper apps on the market, but none have worked, not that I expected them to: the N10 supports HID natively from what I understand.
My Nexus 10 is fully updated and rooted, stock ROM, Franco kernel. My S II is running the latest CM 10.1 nightly. My friend's S II is on an earlier version of Jelly Bean from her carrier.
I'm pretty fed up. Can anybody help shed some light on what's going on? Is this a common Android issue, or is this just a horrible product?

Have you tried a different kernel?

I just tried KTManta. Same result. I'll try the stock kernel later on.
Same issue "Please Help"
I am having the same issue with the error before being able to put the code in with my Poetic bluetooth keyboard. I am rooted. I have not made any changes like add kernals or roms and on 4.3. This keyboard hase worked when I first got it and stopped a while after. I thought rooting would fix this issue but obviously not. This is the one http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Removable-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Function/dp/B00AG0D61O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377744986&sr=8-1&keywords=poetic+bluetooth+keyboard+nexus+10 Someone please help me out. Oh by the way, I have had this keyboard replaced and still the same issue.

That keyboard, while sold under a different name, seems to be exactly the same as mine. I've tried two of these keyboards, and both experienced the same issue. I purchased an Acer keyboard some time ago, which worked immediately.
I'd demand a refund straight away.

I have exactly the same keyboard as you, when it doesn't want to work I turn it off, unpair the keyboard, hold the Bluetooth button while turning it on, then I simply try to pair again. I am using Android 4.3 Rooted as well .
Good luck,

OK, so far I have resisted the urge to root my Xoom because I don't have an extra SD Card, and am not really feeling any slowness on the system to want to overclock.
But then it occurred to me...
Does anyone have the latest Tiamat kernel installed and have the Motorola Bluetooth keyboard? If so, do you still have the stuck/repeating key problem, or is it fixed? To be able to actually use the keyboard again (I pretty much don't since getting a stuck repeat eliminates any speed advantage from touch typing) would be worth rooting my Xoom.
Please let me know one way or the other!
FWIW, I've been building my own kernels from upstream (i.e, with all the latest new stuff from Linus/NVidia/Google/Motorola) and I haven't seen the repeating key problem with my Apple Aluminum keyboard, so maybe there is something to that.
Can now confirm that after rooting and flashing Tiamat 1.4.0 that my Bluetooth problem with my keyboard is history. Feel free to spread the word
im running tiamat 1.4.1 and i havent seen the issue come back since.

I've found that the bluetooth problem only creeps up if the Xoom hasn't been rebooted for a while... in like four or five days. I have no idea what this means. Since I got in the habit of shutting it off from time to time, it's been much less of a problem (though it still occurs).
Perhaps, but my X only gets rebooted if I have a new kernel to load, so maybe there is something to the new kernels (but admittedly, I've only seen the issue once).
I'm writing here out of frustration that I've been having with the Acer Iconia.
So I got the tablet about like early last week when it went on sale at Target. The tablet of course came with 3.0.1 and I waited a few days for it to receive the 3.1 update but it always gave me the "your device is up to date" thing. Ok fine so I'll just install the update myself so I updated to the latest version (4.010.11) using the update.zip method. Yay so now I have 3.1!
But of course the problems aren't over.
Before and after the update I had problems with WiFi (unable to connect because of looping) and I'd usually be able to "fix" this problem by resetting my router and modem. But what about when I go to college or any outside public place? I won't be able to go to them and ask them to reset their damn router -___-.
And the other annoying problem: the mic. Yes I've searched about the mic problem and looked at every thread that was created about it. It has to do with the noise canceling, etc. But I can't really video chat when the mic has crappy quality. Ok so I decided to go back to Target and exchange it for a new Acer Iconia (which I did yesterday).
When I got it and opened it, it seemed to be packaged a bit differently than the older tablet and seemed a bit newer (in comparison to the old packaging). And as soon as I connected it to my WiFi, an update appears!!! Cool so as I'm setting up the tablet, 3.1 is downloading in the background. Once it's done and the Tablet resets, everything seems cool. I try out the front cam using the stock Camera app and there was a moment where the camera only showed some odd green screen (as if it was unable to connect to the camera) and in a few seconds everything was cool. I even tried the mic and it was much better. I took it out with my to my friend's place and was able to connect to his internet with no issues. And then I went home and connected to my WiFi and once again it did the looping issue . I tried ignoring it and just reset my router (I tried assuming that it was my router's problem since my computer also has issues sometimes when it comes to reconnecting to WiFi after it turns on from sleep mode).
So then I go to sleep and wake up this morning. I decide to check for an update on my tablet for lulz and to my surprise there was another update (4.010.13)! Go through the update process with the power plugged in, android gear thingy keeps going, and the bar looked like it stopped moving 95% of the way and the tablet reset. So then it turns on and it says that all apk have been loaded but I don't see the "update successful" msg. But then I check "about tablet" and it appeared that it had updated successfully. *whew*
But of course another problem appears. Remember how the front camera had a slight moment? Well I tried using the front camera and it gave me that same green flickering screen and wouldn't show. Once again it appeared to have a problem connecting to the actual hardware camera. I tried force closing the camera app and opening it again but it didn't fix anything. Tried closing and opening the tablet but it didn't fix the problem. Tried pressing the reset button but that didn't fix it. And of course I decided to reset the whole thing but that didn't fix it! And I tried using the front cam with the Google Talk app and it still didn't work (still gave me the green flickering screen).
BLAH! Should I exchange the tablet for another Acer Iconia or just give up on it and get a different one? I honestly like the build of the tablet and all the features it offers (like the ports) but those issues are just stopping me from fully enjoying the tablet and being able to use it for the purposes I got it (video chatting, WiFi, etc.)
EDIT: Here's a video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuAhgWQgCq0&feature=channel_video_title (Ignore the "4.010.13" in the title. I didn't mean to say that all 4.010.13 tablets will have this problem; only meant that my tablet was on 4.010.13)
I'm on my second iconia and absolutely love it. The first was almost perfect, but battery wouldn't charge beyond 88%.
I've tested out every possible thing about it, and everything is completely solid.
To exchange it for another iconia or something else is entirely up to you. I'm just telling you that what you describe I don't experience at all. My wifi connects instantly to whatever signal I tell it to connect to. My cameras also work perfectly. Mic also perfectly and makes me go through to the other side just fine. In fact, I've been using the iconia to have conferences with people I know to discuss about our plan to take over the world.
The point is there will always be a black sheep in the flock. Even the ipad 2, apple's star product and the most sort after tablet right now, is getting reports of problems left and right. The most common seems to be light bleeds and face time freezing.
Go for another tablet if you feel like it. Your choice. I'm just telling you there's such a thing as a perfect iconia, and I have it.

I understand and respect your good intentions. I'll think about it through out the day and I might exchange it for another Iconia. If another problem arises then I'll just check out another tablet.
Also I added a video of the problem at the bottom of the original post up there ^^^
The wifi issue was an atrocity that affect(s) a lot of people. Mine did it one time right after the 3.1 update, I did a fix on the tablet and it never has done it again, and since the latest update hopefully won't.
It does appear to me that something is wrong with your camera however. Mine has never done that and it does not appear to be a software issue. I think there's something physically wrong with the front facing camera - loose connection or something.
eh maybe the stockboys took their liberties with stock the shelf with iconia. Maybe just have the manager open one up with you and check those eature out before you leave the store. Mine has been great.
All the honeycomb tablets have their issues and run the same hardware so your not missing out leaving this tablet or keeping it. only thing is atleast the xoom gets updates fast(if your subcribing to verizon but the wifi version is not that far behind anywhos)
I keep hearing people complain about the mic, luckily that isn't an issue for me though as I don't use my tablet for video or audio chat anyways And surprisingly I haven't had the WIFI issue either, it has worked like a peach all the way from the start. The only issue I've had with my tablet has been the fact that it took Acer forever to release EMEA_GEN3 firmware update, nothing else so far.
Maybe I've just been lucky?
After watching your video, i can say is a hardware fault. Exchange again the tablet and check on the store that everything works. Mine works wonderful and I love this tablet.
I have two Iconia tablets and confirmed that both cameras in each tablet work in 4.010.11 and 4.010.13.
I've also not had an issue with wifi. If this is an ongoing issue, it might be an incompatibility with your router.
For the camera, most likely hardware defect, mine doesnt have that problem. For the wifi, however the update supposedly fixed it, but if you have the same problem as I do, root your device (its easy!) And download an app like es file explorer and go into the settings and enable both root settings. Turn off wifi, and in es file explorer delete both files in /data/miscellaneous/dhcp. Sounds like a pain but it really only takes thirty seconds and fixes it for a few days. As for replace versus a different unit, I recommend getting another iconia. I compaired all of the tablets hheavily, and all of them have their issues. The iconias issues, however, are by far the easiest to deal with
If this post was helpful, give thanks
I to have had not one issue with my tab. Well other then a few things I screws up.that camera issue looks like bad hardware or the cable from the can to system board is loose.I did drop my tab and found the connectors inside were not secure for video.I took mine apart. Take yours back since you just got it.tell them to get you one from a different box or take it back to a diffrent target store.
I once bought a awesome TV from Walmart I returned 4 of them was going to get a fifteenth brand but decided one more try.I went across bridge into Jeff Indiana walmart exchanged it. And never one sec trouble was a bad batch at the walmart 3 miles from my home.
Sorry for such a long story in blonde giggles
Just like every other product in life, sometimes we get lemons - not just lemons, rotten lemons.
Your A500 may be an example of a rotten lemon. No way to even turn it into lemonade.
You said you've done a factory reset and you're on the newest build of software, there's basically nowhere else to turn and nothing else to do. As a customer, you've done your part. I would say, do an exchange and as I think I glimpsed someone else mentioning, open it up and use it at the store. Check for hardware faults. Mind you, slow GPS locking and Wifi issues may not necessarily indicate a fault, but that camera issue definitely does.
That is of course, IF you want another A500 anyway. At this point, no one here could blame you if you wanted to try on something else. In your place, I probably would. Once bitten, twice shy. I give every brand 2 chances when it comes to a product. If I end up getting 2 duds (and I've only had this happen ONCE) that's where I draw the line and I gladly move on to something else.
Good Luck and whatever you decide to do, hope to hear from you again with your results...either loving on a new tablet, or loving on a working A500.
WOW Sorry to hear you have had so many issues. I bought my wife one for reading and web surfing for her birthday and she and my daughter got me one for my birthday. My kid has a Galaxy and she had some of the issues you have had with the acer. Granted she works at best buy and they had some issues with that lot she had bought hers from. I have khad the wifi issue at first and went to the acer web site and installed the fix from them before i had rooted mine. At first i had to do the reset thingy with a small paper clip. But have not had any other issues than that. I would do the return thing at a diffrent store maybe you got into a bad lot. I hope it changes for you.
Do a double reset (paperclip in the reset hole with power on) and power cycle. Then restore the factory settings under the security menu, which will also wipe all your settings and data. This solved all the probs my son was having in his A500.

First of all, hello ! I'm new around here and I just stumbled upon a problem I guess on my new phone ( the L5 II E460 ) so I decided to ask your opinion on this one cause I don't have that big knowledge about smartphones and androids to be honest
The thing is: Sometimes when I use the wi-fi connection home and toggle between the 3G data connection from once in a while the 3G Data stops working. The wi-fi connects back without no issues but if I switch to data it won't show the 3G sign up or H and I can't access anything unless I restart the phone, then everything goes back to normal ( to be honest this happened to me only twice and I have the phone since a month but it's still frustrating and first I thought my phone may be broken but after a little google search I found out that many people have this problem )
What other solutions are to stop this " problem " or whatever it is to occur again ?
Thanks.

I toggled multiple times just to try what you reported but it didn't happen to me.
Did you update your firmware? I also recommend also a full-wipe:
1 Turn the power off.
2 Press and hold the Power/Lock key + Volume Down key + QuickButton.
3 When the LG Logo appears on the screen, release all keys.
I didn't do any firmware update atm, it's still the Jelly Bean 4.1.2
It doesn't happen often, only from time to time and the airplane mode on and off toggle seems to resolve the problem so I'm guessing there is some problem between the wifi and data settings sometimes.

Do the update (through software update in your phone). It stays at Jelly Bean 4.1.2 it's just an update to it. Maybe it solves your problem, as it may have been a known bug. I've updated and I don't have your problem, maybe it was solved. Also do a full wipe afterwards.
Ditto... almost!

I have the LG-E460 (L5 MkII) and JB 4.1.2 updated to May 28th 2013. It is just 10 days old so I have 4 days left to decide to keep or return. This is my 1st ever smartphone, so I am without any doubt a NOOB in more ways than one.
If I understand correctly, my problem seems to be similar. If I am updating the weather, twitter or facebook etc, using my home wi-fi, every now and then I get a message "Network Unavailable", despite FULL signal on my network, and the only way to restore it is to turn Wi-Fi off, then on.
It seems to work just fine by leaving Wi-Fi off, thereby using the mobile data permanently.
Could this possibly be anything to do with the type of network in use? ie, WPA2-PSK etc?
Regards to all,
Mike

I experience wi-fi connection losses too, but not that often and I can live with it. If it's too often for you, return the phone as it is a bug. Others have reported it too (see the lg uk website for our phone).

This is, sadly, the conclusion I have come to. Apart from this one issue, I love the phone and it was the only unit at this monthly price-point that, in reviews anyway, was any good! The other handsets were Samsung Galaxy Ace, HTC Desire C and Huawei Ascend Y201.
I know reviews are not always the best way to choose but, out of the four, the L5 seemed to be "the one" for me, particularly after reading users reviews and studying the spec. sheets for all.
I'm trying to save money, not spend more, so the L5 will have to stay. Because it is new to me, I'm using it WAY more than is normal, just to get to know it, so in normal use I can probably put up with it.
Thank you for letting me rant on; and thank you for a great site.
Best regards, to all,

Well, I haven't found a cure, but I have found a way round it!
It would appear to be WPA that's causing the intermittent, but common, "No Connection" message... I changed to WEP and it has now been perfect for over 24 hours.
I think I've got this right: in WEP a "key" is only sent at the outset! With WPA, a key is generated every so often and it must be that which is upsetting the L5 and causing it to "have a fit"
Any thoughts would be welcome... I do know the pitfalls of using WEP, but it has proved a point... at least I think it has.

Mike
I've been running on 5.0 for about a week (stock, rooted). I rather suddenly had the tablet fail to auto-rotate, but rebooting sorted it out at the time. Now it completely refuses to rotate. Not only that, but every app I've tried that reports sensor data doesn't even acknowledge the existence of any input other than the touchscreen and the microphone. I've tried reflashing 5.0 to no avail, and I'm in the process of going back to 4.4 to see if that does anything but I'm not feeling hopeful about it.
Does anyone have any ideas of what else I could try? I'm pretty sure it's well out of warranty (rooting aside), so I'm not sure how feasible it would be to get support on it from Asus. I'm considering popping it apart and seeing if anything obvious is wrong but I'm not sure what I'd be looking for.

I had same problem with my N7 2013. First: I opened the back and secured a lousy cable, closed, worked almost 1 full day till everything stops. I also used my book case with magnets. Then: I reopened, secured the other side too of the lousy cable and closed. No case till this, 5 days are passed and no error. So, due to my flaw in the modus operandi, now I don't know if it was for the cables of for the case with magets. I hope the second, I won't use that case either anymore
Hope this can help (even if I have the 2013 version)
I have exactly the same issue. My Nexus 7 2013 is on 5.0.1 and rooted. I nnoticed the issue yesterday. First alerted by screen rotation not working, I used CPU Z to see if the compass was detected and I found the sensors page completely blank.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(i tried posting this thread this morning but the post did not post successfully because of the image verification thing. if this post was reposted, please let me know)
hello and thank you for taking the time to read my first post. been having an issue with my new phone and i havent the faintest idea on how to diagnose or fix my problem. i am in no ways a developer or knowledgeable in programming what so ever, but i have delved in "script kiddie" roots and customs roms with my older phones trying to breathe new life into those devices as an excuse to not have to buy an older phone, but eventually my samsung note 5 kicked the bucket and wasnt able to keep up with the amount of apps and multitasking i do for work. a friend of mine recommended that i buy a one plus 6t as its not only one of the latest phones (okay not the latest, but still fairly new) , but it was also cheap as hell on ebay for about 250$ for a used one with some slight burn-in in the display (the ghost image suggests this unit was a display model, but its a handy phone and i dont care at all).
Anyways, long story short; friend is a big tech guy and recommend that id root the phone and install a custom ROM (A.K.A paranoid OS) for greater usability and security. since he was way more knowledgeable with this phone than i was in the 2-3 days of owning it; i decided to let him go ahead and do it for me.
the phone runs amazing, and ive used it for work for a few weeks now and it has lived up to my expectations and more... except for 2 issues.
the main issue that this thread is focused on is android auto. on my friends phone, it works great! hooks up and connects every time he plugs in the cable, audio smooth, gps and other features i never knew existed with my old phone. my 6t on the other hand, works when it wants to.
it never connects to the radio and tells me that it cant connect through notifications. after some experimenting, i found out that it does connect; you just have to go to "USB Preferences" in the phone, plug the phone in, see the options light up under ""usb controlled by"", then tap on a different option (even though it wont switch) and tap it again multiple times until the phone connects.
once it does connect, it works great. until you start listening to music. the music cuts out every now and then. sometimes for 1 second, 3 seconds, or 30 seconds. its very random. other stuff that happens is that the UI on the radio flickers constantly or disappears and the resolution looks cut off or looks wonky on different sides of the radio. sometimes its one or the other. i told my friend about it, and he tried clearing caches, force stopping the app, even completely removing the google play service plugin and reinstalling it, but still nothing. after he tried it, i had phone hooked up to the radio for work, it worked fine for a few hours until everything froze and my phone went completely black and a bunch of colorful letters on my screen pop up that say "CRASH DUMP". phone reboots just fine and works fine but the issues before the crash still happen.
the second issue is that my fingerprint sensor detects fingers but cant read anything, but thats the least of my concerns and i dont care if it doesnt work.
my friend has no idea what else to do and i am kind of disappointment but i still want this to work. although i have no idea where to start or what to do.
if your willing to help an inexperienced dude get his phone working, that would be greatly appreciated. other than that, i hope you have a good day
EDIT:: just a quick add on to say that ive tried different USB-c cables and this radio is notn aftermarket. im using stock radio on my 2019 nissan altima

hello and thank you for taking the time to read my first post. been having an issue with my new phone and i havent the faintest idea on how to diagnose or fix my problem. i am in no ways a developer or knowledgeable in programming what so ever, but i have delved in "script kiddie" roots and customs roms with my older phones trying to breathe new life into those devices as an excuse to not have to buy an older phone, but eventually my samsung note 5 kicked the bucket and wasnt able to keep up with the amount of apps and multitasking i do for work. a friend of mine recommended that i buy a one plus 6t as its not only one of the latest phones (okay not the latest, but still fairly new) , but it was also cheap as hell on ebay for about 250$ for a used one with some slight burn-in in the display (the ghost image suggests this unit was a display model, but its a handy phone and i dont care at all).

I totally agree flash the stock Rom
OOS is amazing. Rooting is easy if you decide you need it.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6010 using Tapatalk
Does your friend have the the same phone? It is very common that custom ROM works flawlessly on one model but full of issues on the other, even they are from same manufacturer. The stability of a custom ROM depends on how many active user use the rom. Most of one plus users used oxygen. So not so many people could give you answer.
BTW, I would never advise someone to use custom ROM if they don't know how to flash by themselves.
