Hey my friends,
Played around with my one and found a file named "Demo.apk" and installed it.. Watched the fancy movie.. and I just realized that all my apps are gone..

lol
What was the video like?
Bit strange how your apps have gone? Can you enlighten, is it all apps? Or Play Store Apps, or HTC Apps .. .. if HTC Apps a hard reset may bring them back?
Now you said this will be interesting to see how many people try it for themselves. . . lol
Could it be the demo video for in-store display?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I added a warning in the app section long ago,I installed it on my OneX and it erased both messages and phonebook to replace them with fake ones
So where does this demo.apk come from? Did you download it?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The file is stored in /system/demoflo/
And was allready on my phone.
It was some introducing to the phone, with following links/information to the HTC zoe, boom and stuff..
All Apps, installed with the store AND manual installed with apk are gone, also messages.. and there were fake contacts and apointments in Phonebook and Calendar..

Restart
Are the apps also gone after restarting the phone?
jepp, all apps are gone even after a restart..
Can the apk be deleted? I'd hate to accidentally install it! What were HTC thinking?! Is that path only accessible with root?
No root here, and not possible to delete it :/

So it's a handy app to use to display the phone in stores. Users could go out of their mind, install apps and rerunning the app would clear the phone.
Just to make sure. It didn't remove the original apps that came with your phone right? So, just do a factory reset and set up your accounts again. Good luck and thanks for the tip.... (Although I have an almighty urge to run that app now lol)
LOL
i did this after a couple of days of getting my ONE just how i like it..
i wasnt too pleased but hey if your gonna go digging expect to fall into a hole now and again.. LOL
HTC have a mini website about this file giving shop staff a kind of prep talk "your perfect pitch is just a few steps away"
i wont do this again..

What is your Rom version?
I had done this as well, two days after I got the phone, you can only get to the demo.apk by using a file explorer that lets you get to the root of the file system, rootexploer does this by default and esfile explorer can be set to go up to root.
For anyone that has done this have you noticed the phone randomly resetting itself and the WiFi crashing (won't connect to access points and wifi setting are unresponsive) requiring a reset to re enable it? My phone is doing this and I'm not sure if I have a faulty phone or if its because I powered the phone down when I noticed it complaining about too many calendar deletes at once as the demo app was running.

I think that Demo is for shop demo purpose. It will delete some app and play some random video and delete lots profile. E.g Contact, message thread. The only way to recover is to do Factory reset
Hmmm just wondering why did you even install the app located in the system partition? lol Just makes me wonder I haven't really encountered someone who installs apk inside the system partition
Demo sucks except you want to test the game so badly. haha

a really strange thing happened to me....
i had to have a factory reset since the camera app just decided it didn't want to work properly. started with not playing back videos, then while recording videos it would just crash to home screen and in the end it just didn't start at all. lol
anyhow. i had the factory reset and everything went great. but i noticed that every app i had previously installed started coming up in the applications list. i only had to restore my contacts and the phone was just as before. even the wifi list was not cleared. i had every other wifi installed already..
another good thing that came out of this whole thing (well, the menu buttons still go off and on whenever they please...) is that the battery consumption is awesomely lower. i mean, i had to recharge the phone twice during the day, but now it stays on for about 24H even if i'm gaming on it for some time....
strange things....
oh, forgot to mention that it's a non rooted, stock rom carrier free phone
(i wish i could root it but it's all SO complicated and the risk of bricking it leaves me with stock apps like facebook/tweeter/stock market etc eating up the battery juice.... oh well)
sorry for the lengthy reply..
Cheers !!!
Yeah, your previously downloaded apps and some settings are stored in the cloud. If you don't want them back, during the initial setup, skip the Gmail account setup. Then open Gmail and add your account back. Your apps and settings should not be downloaded again.
The Apps and other things come back when syncing with your google Konto. Nice Feature BTW

When I get the message up in the notification area that "Updates are available".
It seems to display something along the lines of "Updates are available &&n&p".
Or something along those lines. What the hell is the rubbish after available all about? It's driving me nuts.
And it doesn't take much to drive me nuts let me tell you
Between the update message weirdness and the Unfortunately gaaps has stopped crap whenever I boot back up etc. Arghh. And don't get me started on the remote restore function using ADB which doesn't seem to work anymore since the latest update.
OK rant over But seriously. What's up with the "Updates are available" message?
I did perform a factory reset BTW. Which is when I found out remote restore seems to be broken.

it means that you have some apps that have updates available in the play store. you can turn off the notification in the play store settings, then they wont bug you.

when you did the factory reset.. Did you do this in custom recovery or in settings on the tablet.. Are you stock ?
Did you use anything to restore your apps such as ti backup adb restore (does not always work).
If you are on a custom rom or have been in the past.. I would suggest you do a FULL Format of your tablet system cache dalvic DATA and all...reboot the tab back into recovery adb push stock new downloaded rom to tab or use usb otg and flash brand new rom... Then see if you still have issues.. DO NOT RESTORE A BACKUP you could be putting the issues back on device..
The way the NO SD Card devices use data. you can have issues linger from a older rom or pop up after flashing.
Be CAUTIOUS ABOUT DELETING DATA ON This device. IT WILL WIPE A DOWNLOADED ROM.. and otg storage with twrp or adb push will be required to get a rom back on device to flash..
Good Luck..
No mate. Just on rooted stock.
I initiated the restore from within settings I believe.
I did two backups originally just in case.
One from ADB and one from My Backup Pro.
It backed up fine using ADB. When restoring it, I had the initial quick reboot. Then when I had the restore my data screen on the Nexus, I hit the Restore button and the Nexus rebooted back to the home screen.
The PC restore was running, but nothing got restored.
I then gave up and restored using My Backup Pro.
But after restoring everything. I keep getting the Gaaps has stopped message.
So time to backup my games and wipe again in the future.
I'll then restore everything else direct from the Play Store, to hopefully get rid off the Google Apps problem.
As for the weird symbols after the Updates are available message, they have been there since 4.2.1 though.
Looks like I'm putting up with this.
I'll grab it on a screen grab eventually
Cheers.

It does sound like there is something in your backups that is stopping them from restoring.. Make sure when you restore a backup you are restoring APPS AND APP DATA ONLY.. not system data and system apps.. Such as google apps being system apps.. This often restores old data on top new and causes big issues. With the fcs really sounds like this is the case..
I Think a Good WIPE and Fresh flash will help you out...
Good Luck ..

OK, just to add to this, I saw exactly this "updates available amp&n&p" notification this evening . . . . but on my HTC One X, which is stock, unrooted.
The apps updating are: -
ConvertPad
HDWidgets
SoundHound
WhatsApp
Facebook
Doubt its related, but the WhatsApp update bugged out. That was probably my 3g connection though, which is patchy round here.

It seems my suspicions were correct concerning the &&anp or whatever it is that gets displayed at the end of the Updates are available message you get in the notifications are from the Play Store.
I noticed that my Samsung Galaxy S3 is showing the same thing.
It's gotta be a Play Store bug.
Because my S3 is running 4.11 and my Nexus 7 is running 4.2.1.
It almost looks like variables not getting parsed correctly.
As this only happens when there is more than one update available it seems.
And both my devices are on different versions of Jelly Bean.
And I still can't grab the screen fast enough. As you never know when the updates notifications from the Play Store will appear.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Why are the notifications not staying in the drop down?
Do you have the market Set to auto update, otherwise I have to hit the notification in order to open the store.
Unless you aren't talking about the notification area but the the ticker in the status bar up top?
Hi there, I have an aussie galaxy note 3, and it came with a series of quirks that are really annoying me
First, the touchwiz launcher - you cannot edit the bottom row of icons in the dock, they are fixed.
The camera - The autofocus and camera shutter are ridiculously loud and cannot be shut off
The gallery - There is no auto rotate, to rotate to landscape, you must put your phone in landscape mode and then click on an icon to rotate.
Could someone please upload the above apks from their non aussie device? This means I could install them over the top of my existing ones?
Or is there an easier way of doing this? I tried deleting all the sound files in system/media/ui (everything like camerashutter.ogg) and still no success.
Cheers.

Thats what I did, maybe the apks the guy uploaded were bad. - I deleted the old apks after making backups with titanium so no issue
A guy on whirlpool said he just flashed another regions firmware, and that let him silence the camera and modify the bar at the bottom.
I don't have mine yet so can't test...
Does anyone know if that would mean the region locking would suddenly apply if i did that?

You got it all wrong guys. Changing the apks won't do sh*t.
You need to remove a few of lines in your others.xml relating to this. I am on Aussie firmware and have done it already.
Search system/csc/others.xml and open with text editor in Root Explorer. I am in a rush now but if you can't locate the lines to remove I will find later for you.
Once deleted save & exit then reboot.
Done and enjoy
Just intalled omega rom, so don't worry about it. May as well post it for others.

Hi fellow devs nd members of xda,
I have got problems with my Galaxy S4.. The sview is flashing throughout my screen without any S-Cover or any magnetic material. This happens randomly.. So I need to disable the s-view service and associated files.
I have tried the following :
1. Disable s-view from system settings
2. Renamed and changed permission for system/app/sview service.apk
I heard from another developer to change the value from OPEN to CLOSE in hall_detect file located at sys/devices/virtual/sec/sec_key. But I can't write into the file or rename the file.. The only thing I can do is change the permissions, but that doesn't help..
Does anyone have any idea how this sview works. It's become annoying when I play movies or games on my S4..

Okay I understand. My problem is I can't find it (screenshot) there mainly I broke it somehow but do you know if there is any way to install a app back into touchwiz framework because when I try to install that apk it fails.

You saved my ass, thanks for that. After getting root and so on I tried to follow your instructions. The App was there and I stopped it but needed only one tap (clicked once ->Force Stop) and then stick it on the phone holder but again the S View Cover Screen comes on (with time/date and status bar). I have no clue what to do now because I can't deactivate the app even.
EDIT: When I deactivate the app per third party app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SystemCleanup.Inteks.org) the black screen comes on without time and date. So there is any other process that start when a magnet comes close to the S4 ?

Does your dock have something magnetic??
A magnet triggers that stupid sview.
Use any custom rom that doesnot have sview. It shall get solved.

Yes, of course the holder has magnets too so yeah I know its triggering that view but I thought that view could be fully disabled without a custom rom.
A custom rom is no solve for me right now.
The Question would be how the S View got removed in the roms then I could do the same for my stock rom.
Found out that the Hall Sensor triggers that but found nothing to disable or something like that.
I had this on my old Z1, and now I have a note 4 and it's on it as well... Every few days I get a pop-up on my phone with a Chinese word (screen shot will be added), and despite all my efforts with anti-virus / anti-malware apps, it persists. I found nothing on it online... I used Google translate to try to make sense of this pop-up, all it says is " 堰" which translates into "weir". I used es file Explorer to search my entire phone for that Chinese word, it came up with nothing. I deleted all apps that I thought were suspicious, and still nothing. Could someone help me with this? It's driving me insane. Thank you.
Could it be an app that you had both on your z1 and have it on your new device as well? How about doing a factory reset and then if your problem persists? The only logical course I can think of is to install your apps incrementally and seeing when this starts again. Also, try to keep unknown sources and verify apps on under security. Hope that leads you in the right direction.
I've deleted almost all third party apps, did a factory reset, even flashed a new ROM from sammobile... It still happens. This problem started when I put my old memory card from my Z1 on the note 4. But I've switched it for a new one, and flashed the new ROM after that (and wiped data, and cache), and still no luck. I'm beginning to think it may have been a virus that implants itself to system files or something... I'm a noob though, I need some developer brain power for this
It could be a message from your SIM card or network.

Yes I agree with Jimmyness. Go get a new SIM card, assuming you moved the SIM from your old phone. You've changed everything else.
Alright, I'll give it a shot and let you guys know... Thanks

To see which app this pop-up message is belong to, try the following:
install Shortcut Master app > Menu > Capture Shortcut.
That shortcut master app... I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to do.

What service provider are you using? Does this happen after a factory reset before you add your Google account? In thinking you are letting an app install after you reset.

It captures the shortcut of the popup shown on the screen.
That way you will know which app that popup is belong to.
