[HELP] Disable S-VIEW - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi fellow devs nd members of xda,
I have got problems with my Galaxy S4.. The sview is flashing throughout my screen without any S-Cover or any magnetic material. This happens randomly.. So I need to disable the s-view service and associated files.
I have tried the following :
1. Disable s-view from system settings
2. Renamed and changed permission for system/app/sview service.apk
I heard from another developer to change the value from OPEN to CLOSE in hall_detect file located at sys/devices/virtual/sec/sec_key. But I can't write into the file or rename the file.. The only thing I can do is change the permissions, but that doesn't help..
Does anyone have any idea how this sview works. It's become annoying when I play movies or games on my S4..
Many thanks
AJ

After KitKat update I guess! Didn't had this problem in JB. Deleted SecView apk and seems to be fine so far though ?

If you're rooted you could try the xposed modules, there's one in there that disables S-View.
I will edit this post if I find the specifics.

It's as close as you can get without disabling the sensor. I didn't hook into the phone so that might still show the S-View window, but that's no biggie. Also, the Smart Stay icon disappears, but hey, that can be a plus

Have you ever figured out how to turn off S-view magnet sensor? I have the same problem with a magnetic car mount and it's very annoying.

Well people say just by removing the L1 screw in our phones under the back, the issue gets resolved.
There is one screw name L1 just under our cover.

First Thanks for uploading your files but sadly I think I broke something because I geting only a black screen with statusbar at the top even when I paste in your files back in and this happens since I accidentally delete my. (before that black screen with time, date and so on)
I found no process or app or autostart that contains "s view" or something like that. How did find it and how was it named ?

You saved my ass, thanks for that. After getting root and so on I tried to follow your instructions. The App was there and I stopped it but needed only one tap (clicked once ->Force Stop) and then stick it on the phone holder but again the S View Cover Screen comes on (with time/date and status bar). I have no clue what to do now because I can't deactivate the app even.
EDIT: When I deactivate the app per third party app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SystemCleanup.Inteks.org) the black screen comes on without time and date. So there is any other process that start when a magnet comes close to the S4 ?

A magnet triggers that stupid sview.
Use any custom rom that doesnot have sview. It shall get solved.

Yes, of course the holder has magnets too so yeah I know its triggering that view but I thought that view could be fully disabled without a custom rom.
A custom rom is no solve for me right now.
The Question would be how the S View got removed in the roms then I could do the same for my stock rom.
Found out that the Hall Sensor triggers that but found nothing to disable or something like that.

Proximity Sensor Does NOT work since latest OTA!!!

So the proximity sensor completely stopped working sibce I upgraded to Gingerbread. Well the little red light still comes on but when I put the phone to my face while in a call I expect the screen to automatically turn off but I forget that it no longer works so I end up pressing buttons while talking. If anyone else is experiencing the same issue, or if there are any known fixes someone PLEASE help. Other than that I still really like Gingerbread.

Sadly I don't have any help for you as I am limited in my knowledge...However, I used Kenn's 2.3.4 beta ROM a couple weeks ago or whatever, and I ALSO have noticed that the sensor doesn't seem to work properly. It works right most of the time for me (dunno about you), but there have been times where it screws up. Kind of lame, but I'm sure this is fixable if other people experience the same issue and someone is willing to fix.
Try fix permissions
I am also experiencing this same issue, worked before but not now. I have already fixed permissions...

Yes but since the phone has the sensor I'd rather not have to hit the power button every time I start a phone call. Then I have to hit the power button again to get to the dialer or other apps. Hence inconvenient.

I was shocked it was that simple, but I did it yesterday and the proximity sensor worked great all day today. Crossing my fingers that it will stay that way.

I pull my battery often, my sensor stopped working shortly after I flashed Gingerblur a few months back...hmmmm
Someone out there please tell me how to edit the info in the build.prop. I see where my proximity sensor is at and both sections are labeled as disabled. Need to know how to edit so I can get it working again!!
I use root explorer. open build prop. make it r/w at the top. Hold finger on screen to open menu. scroll down to open in text editor.
edit: my current settings are below. and my sensor does not turn of screen. I think mine stopped working on the 1.5.7 update. hasn't work since.
proximit sensor screen off delay
mot.proximity.delay=450
proximit sesor disable touch distance

Upload various APK's

Hi there, I have an aussie galaxy note 3, and it came with a series of quirks that are really annoying me
First, the touchwiz launcher - you cannot edit the bottom row of icons in the dock, they are fixed.
The camera - The autofocus and camera shutter are ridiculously loud and cannot be shut off
The gallery - There is no auto rotate, to rotate to landscape, you must put your phone in landscape mode and then click on an icon to rotate.
Could someone please upload the above apks from their non aussie device? This means I could install them over the top of my existing ones?
Or is there an easier way of doing this? I tried deleting all the sound files in system/media/ui (everything like camerashutter.ogg) and still no success.
Cheers.

You may need to push them to /system/app via adb. Additionally, you might just need to resign them. Sorry I didn't test it beforehand. I just pulled them straight off my N3. I can try it once I get home from work later tonight.

Thats what I did, maybe the apks the guy uploaded were bad. - I deleted the old apks after making backups with titanium so no issue
A guy on whirlpool said he just flashed another regions firmware, and that let him silence the camera and modify the bar at the bottom.
I don't have mine yet so can't test...
Does anyone know if that would mean the region locking would suddenly apply if i did that?
(Australian models don't have region locking...)

You got it all wrong guys. Changing the apks won't do sh*t.
You need to remove a few of lines in your others.xml relating to this. I am on Aussie firmware and have done it already.
Search system/csc/others.xml and open with text editor in Root Explorer. I am in a rush now but if you can't locate the lines to remove I will find later for you.
Once deleted save & exit then reboot.
Done and enjoy
Just intalled omega rom, so don't worry about it. May as well post it for others.

hangout app emojis after update 4.4

Hello guys,
quick question here.
I updated last night my sprint galaxy s4
but now I don't see the google emojis on the hangout app
I only see the samsung emojis
Thank you. !
EDIT:

Not exactly sure how that happened. My emoji button is attached to the text input bar on the left with location and photo on the right. There was an update released in the past few days. Tried uninstalling updates and reinstalling it?

kind of strange
Is there a way to go back to the hangout style of emojis? I dont like the samsung looking icons, rather have the stock hangouts.

I am not sure how it happened but it is back.
Although when they display on the text field it shows the samsung ones :/
Exactly, I dont like that, I see the stock ones since I use Swiftkey. But when I enter them in or anyone else on the chat enters a emoji it shows as the samsung one. EERRRR

As long as you're stock, there's nothing you can do. It goes beyond just the hangouts app. As if they built it into their framework or something. Any emoji displayed on the phone at all will be displayed as the samsung version. I could go into more detail but, meh...

S-Pan problems
So this is really annoying, looks like there is a problem with the s-pen with galaxy tools i'm having the "action memo" as well as Scrapbook failing on me. The auto-desk sketchbook works fine. The S Note also fails once you draw something and than click the back button.
I hope that the KITKAT glitch and they will fix with an update since I'm running the Stock with root.
Also had various samsung apps consistently force closing on me. it was quite frustrating.
the only solution that worked was a factory reset.
problems like these are an inevitable side effect of computer technology, and there is nothing we can do to prevent them.
instead, reset and move on

I meant simply factory reset. Whether you will lose root or not depending on your setup.
If you are running a custom rom, you most likely will not lose root.
Well i don't know if it was just luck but i made it work...I open Action note WITHOUT the pen (with my finger) and it worked!!! After that it's working normaly with the pen. Try that and tell me if it works.

Thanks for the sugestion, didn't work in my case tho.
And people stop telling to factory reset, its not a solution.
I've been having this problem for a while now, and tried several things.
Restoring apps didnt work.
I am rooted tho, but didnt change much stuff.
So i'd love to see a solution, as i dont want to factory reset (and go trought the burden of getting everything back like i want it). And have to factory reset again when it happens again.
Is there anyway to find out what has actualy stopped working, as i can replicate this in command.
Action memo
Like others, my Action Memo stopped working. I found my old memos stored as jpg in a device folder, actionmemo. They can be viewed and deleted but not modified. At least they weren't lost. I tried soft rest, pulling the battery, and every tip suggested on this site and other sites. I was at least able to use S-note for a while.
I mistakenly assumed that Samsung must have replaced the app with S-note after the update. After a week the Action Memo app returned without any action on my part.
By the next post after this one I realize this site apparently doesn't want posts from regular users so I will not post again. Suggestions from the pros didn't help me. Time for an apparent automatic update was probably the solution.

Thanks for trying to help.
But please stop posting this nonsence on all the forums.
It is NOT true. Both apps are still on the phone!
BTW you have also been told multiple times its not true (on difrent topics).
Have seen some possible solutions on difrent forums.
- Theres 1 were someone explaines he brought his phone to a Samsung-rep, and they uninstalled some software which made it work.
- Others do have succes after factory reset.
- Or launching S-note without the S-pen works for some.
- I have yet to try deleting S-pen application files. But that might be an solution too altho i havent seen anyone having succes with it.
- Have also seen someone with succes after battery pull and reinsterting SIM and SD card.
If anyone else has some suggestions lets collect them here. Lurking trough difrent forums is just a pain.
Go to settings -> application manger -> disabled find there (myscript resources manger) then enable it then restart your phone
This what works for me let me know if for you work.

Got the s5 today, few questions

I like the phone, but the 16gb causes a lot of concern. After downloading my music from Amazon, it's almost gone.
I can't find an option to put music from Amazon on my sd card, is that hte new kit kat "feature"?
Also, the test message preview on my lock screen only says "New Message", ther eused to be an option that gave me a preview of the actual message..is it gone?
On the Note 3, it had a setting where screenshots would enter auto edit mode, came in real handy for me. S5 doesn't seem to have this?
When I disabled my magazine, my home screen transitions isn't continuous ..I know I seen the s5 do this in review videos.
Did you root your phone yet with Towelroot? If so go to play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix and install this to get read/write to your sd card. The other stuff I can't help you with. Sorry.

Not yet. I will this weekend tho. Thanks bud
Before you root you may want to look into fix for SHealth and ISIS Wallet (if you use it). You have to stop SHealth and Health Services in app manager and clear data and cache before you installed Xposed. You may even have to uninstall their updates if I remember as well.
Install xposed and it's service , then update Shealth and it should work fine. Once you get that done install ISIS Root Bypass 3.0 module for xposed and check it in modules and reboot and the Wallet will work fine after that.
These were two things that I use often and really had to get working to be happy with root.

Why put off until tomorrow, what you could do today, and prevent yourself from being screwed by VZW when they push 4.4.3 soon, and Root may not work with it?
In the text messaging app you'll see a setting to display the message on the lockscreen instead of new message.
Plug your phone into the computer and drag and drop the music to the SD or use root explorer to move it there.. You don't need root to do this.
No, the S5 cannot auto enter edit mode as far as I know, maybe clear defaults of gallery and set images to auto open in an editor?
As far as continuous transitions just use apex or Nova.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll keep digging.
I do not see the lockscreen setting in the messaging app. I'm using Samsungs app over Verizons

How did you "disable" My Magazine exactly? I was able to long press home screen, choose Home screen settings, and uncheck My Magazine. This allowed me to scroll continuously or not.

I unchecked it via longpress homescreen. I don't have an option anywhere (that I can find) for continuous scroll

Oh gosh, well that is a problem then. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for a solution. You should let us know if you find one. I'm curious now.

You'll have to edit a file using Root Explorer then if you disable My Magazine you'll have endless home screen scrolling. I use Nova launcher which already has the option in settings. If you definitely have to have the stock launcher and you can't get infinite scrolling to work let me know I'll tell you which file to edit.

I wouldn't have to modify the build prop to get S health to work with xposed?
