I just installed a new stereo receiver in my car. It's a JVC KD-X50BT. it works fine to skip tracks and such from the stereo , but it won't display the song name which, according to JVC, is related to the Nexus 4 not supporting bluetooth spp profile. Does anyone know anything about this?

Bluetooth SPP works fine for me, maybe it is the combination with the JVC stereo causing problems...
According to the representative I spoke to the N4 doesn't have the profile, do you know where I could find the correct specs for that?
Also, what media player do you use? I use Google music, I forgot to include that in the OP
Thanks
For what it's worth, I have the same problem on mine. I also had the same problem on my One X.

Same JVC receiver as you. I've used Google Play Music, the stock HTC music, and Pandora. The only way Pandora will display the info is if I use the special JVC-Pandora mode (but then it limits my skips to 5, eventhough I'm on Pandora One).
This sounds like it's an issue with the receiver then. Anyone have any confirmation (spec sheet, etc.) that would confirm that the N4 does indeed support spp so that I can call and rightfully rant?

Check this thread out. It's an issue with stock android and not your head unit. It only shows track info if I play music from Pandora and that's it. It's annoying. I have a Sony head unit.

Final answer (which is in line with all my experiments haha): the Nexus 4 on AOSP does not support the necessary Bluetooth profile (AVRCP 1.3). However some custom ROMs do, CyanogenMod does with the cavet that the feature has not yet been ported to CyanogenMod 10, that is it seems to have worked fine in CM 9 but isn't included in CM 10 yet. So it's just a question of waiting/kindly reminding the devs.

I want to use a Bluetooth headset with my Nexus 7 when I using Skype or Google talk.
But will it work?
Sure, why wouldn't it?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yes, I just paired my Plantronics BT headset to my N7. Haven't used it for Skype or Google talk yet but imagine it would.
I use Bluetooth with tablet talk and it works well.

Yes it will

No Bluetooth does not work on Nexus 7 and Skype or any other app that uses anything other than telephony audio.
Talkatone uses telephony settings and bluetooth works flawlessly with it. But Skype even using BTMono or other app to redirect audio to bluetooth doesnt work.
I think Skype guys were busy getting Video to work with it they forgot BT....
SipDroid works with BT also.
I've got MW600 stereo bluetooth headset from my old X10i. Tomorrow I'll buy nuxus4. Does it work on nexus4?

You won't get song info on any Bluetooth device with a nexus phone. The reason is that stock android uses a an old version of the AVRCP Bluetooth protocol (v1.1). That does controlling like play, pause, etc but not the song metadata.
Keep your fingers crossed that Google puts it in v5.0
The only way to get it now is to find a custom Rom with AVRCP v1.3 or higher.

Working fine
Just unwraped my Nexus 4.
When I first hooked it up with the MW600, I could not get audio on phone conversations.
I had to reset the MW600 to get everything working fine.
Confirm if MUSIC WORKS
I realize its repetitive question, but wanted to reconfirm.
The MW 600 works flawlessly on the Nexus 4. Can someone Kindly RECONFIRM if the music can be played wireless and the usual battery on a single charge. I really like this and planning to buy.
Thanks in anticipation

MW600 is a very good device.
I have one and do not regret the spent money I have on this.
It lasts for about 2 days with a single charge, playing about 3~3.5h a day...
Go for it.
:good:
Thanks for the quick response... Another question pops in my mind... People using it in the earlier posts mentioned that the song name was not displayed on the MW 600 probably because of the stock ROM on the phone. I'm on AOKP ROM, I guess I will be able to see the song name. Do you think so??

I have both the MW600 and the newer MW1. On stock Nexus 4 Jellybean track info does not work with the MW600 but it works with the MW1 provided you install the Sony Smart Wireless Pro software available from the Play Store.

Don't think so. Is there a newer MW600? The MW600 I got was purchased when I got my Nexus One lol.
Does the S4 display song info when streaming to car stereos and such? mp3s and Pandora? Is this an Android limitation if not?
It did for me with pandora, stock, play music.....it was one of those three. I dont remember.

It didn't work with my Note 2, but I was streaming some from Play Music and the artist/title came through. Pretty exciting since my wife would always brag about her iPhone doing it.

Subaru is a pita with Bluetooth pairing. Try deleting your old sync over voice and then add it back over voice only. Doing it through the head unit control it gets messed.

Actually, that helped. It still doesn't connect automatically (Not sure why...) but it now reliably connects every time i force it to, which is better then before. I'm hoping that someday an aosp bluetooth stack will show up and solve all my problems, but i'm not really holding my breath.
Hey guys, long time Android user with some BT issues I'm hoping you guys can help with.
I recently upgraded from the razr maxx to the sg4 (verizon) and I'm having trouble with music skipping through BT. The skipping occurs in two seperate vehicles.
Vehicle 1 is my wife's 2013 Sonata
Vehicle 2 is an older vehicle with an old jvc head unit.
I had zero music streaming problems with these vehicles when I used my razr maxx.
Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas how to tackle it?
I forgot to mention that my sg4 is 100% stock 5 day old unit.

Yep... same day I bought it, it requested a system update. I'm on 4.2.2.
I have the same problem. Music may play ok for a bit then start skipping so much that it is unbearable. This is with a BMW 5 series. I have updated radio software with no change. Other phones work fine in this car. I have 2 s4 and both have exact same issue. I have tried every rom and kernel combo possible with no change. This is the only thing that bothers me with this phone as streaming music in my vehicle is a must. Im subscribing with the hope this will get resolved.

Well that's disheartening, I would assume your receiver is BT 2.1 then. ..
I was hoping that buying a new receiver might resolve the issue

I'll try it and report back..
I've had on and off issues with bluetooth audio streaming in my car since owning my Nexus 4. Android 4.2.2 was pretty much borked full stop, only AOKP really ran consistently okay.
Samsung 4.2.2 seemed to work fine, as did the GE 4.3 ROM, but I'm struggling again with AOSP 4.3 ROMs. CM 10.2 was awful pre-official nightly, it's now at least playable but I get constant pops/skips.
Hi I'm looking for a new stereo for my old 4runner, does anyone know an aftermarket stereo that is compatible with the nexus 4?
I want to stream music using Google play music all access preferably thru Bluetooth.
Please leave any recommendations.
I think as long as the stereo supports a2dp it will stream through Bluetooth

Appradio 3 or Pioneer z150bh. Screen mirroring from phone on head unit, add miracast ptv3000 for wireless video instead of slimport if preferred. I love it.
