Hello,
Its very often, i'm using the phone and I lose the signal completely and stay for about 10/15 minutes. ( I reset the phone, put it in airplane mode and no signal back )
i Removed the sim card and put in another cellphone and i have a signal in 100%.
Is there other radio that i can test or another solution??
thanks
My N4 has same problem, signal is cut and all operations with SIM frozen when phone falls asleep. If SIM PIN query is activated, then I am asked to enter PIN, but all entries are ignored, no matter if correct/incorrect and how many tries. So I have disabled the PIN query.
Soft: I have flashed many combinations, got the best result with .27 version on stock rom & kernel. It did not cure my phone, just prolonged the time before radio fails, around 30mins after screen off.
After reboot all is OK, signal is good, data works, I can call out & receive phonecalls without drops, etc. Until radio freezes on sleep.

Please keep this updated with your solution. I personally have given up and am in deep s**t with complicated RMA.
Welcome to the club. Search and there are some things you can try. But nothing full proof.
FYI, if you are prepaid, there is no roaming, so you phone will cut out a lot.

I keep hoping there will be a solution.
I think i'm found a solution.
Today i go to SETTINGS > MORE ... > CELL BROADCASTS
and disable everything and during all the day my signal not drop.
I never had a day that the signal not drop and today after that change happens.
So tomorrow i'll hope that the signal not drop ! Let's See !
this happens to mine as well and I never had this issue with my galaxy s. I have one of the first batches from december. Im wondering if a replacement will fix this issue or if it is software but I am leaning towards hardware problem

I've had a repeated problem (around 4 times so far) where my phone mobile radio must have died/reset while the phone was on standby with the screen off. When I wake the phone I am presented with the SIM pin code request screen. Usually entering the correct code reserects the phone. However last occurance it refused to accept the correct code so required a reboot to get it to work again.
Anyone else seen this?
I'm on O2 in the UK fyi.

ok I'll guess the answer myself...
I guess this is related to the random reboots people have been experiencing primarily on calls. I note some people say the phone can reboot while on standby, since I 'had' SIM pin code enabled this was as far as the reboot while on standby was getting. I've removed the pin code request which will mean I guess the phone just completes the reboot without requiring my input.
I'm hoping this is fixed with any update to the reboot during active calls issue that google confirm they have repeated themselves.
I've just had this happen on my Nexus S. What service provider are you with? I'm with Tesco (O2).
I'm O2, 30day rolling contract. Basically I've disabled the SIM Lock now so hopefully until the standby or call (not experienced this one yet) reboots occur the phone will just restart without my intervention required now.
Same here. After connecting the phone to the charger yesterday evening, this morning the SIM Enter PIN screen showed up (like the phone did a reboot overnight).
After checking the system services, I noticed the phone hasn't rebooted, because the services where running for more than 12 hours.
So the SIM Enter PIN screen showed up without reboot. I think a no-signal situation has preceded before this screen showed up (and maybe the GSM module has got a total reset).
This is on Telfort/KPN, The Netherlands.
Interesting ArnoutVos.. these were my original thoughts too since every time I've had the phone next to me and not seen it reboot just present me with the Enter SIM Pin screen. I just naturally assumed I was getting the at standby reboot some people had seen.
I've got the same problem on t-mobile. Probably about 6 times in 2 weeks so far. I've also had it where the signal bars at the top just show grey with a little cross by them and the only thing i can do to sort it is restart the phone.
It also drains the battery like mad whilst in this state.
I also had this 2 times (only had the phone 5 days)
That is, i turn on the screen and i have no signal, I dont think my phone has been restarted, as i dont see the sim pin screen, it has just lost the signal/radio died. And nothing seem to restore the signal, i've tried switching from 2g and back, only thing i found to get the signal back is a restart..
i have had the same problem with the signal dropping out on me all morning. sometimes i can make calls sometimes i cant and sometimes rebooting helps sometimes not. today i had the sim card replaced just to make sure and i thought it helped but it just did it to me again. its really frustrating...
I had the same problem about 10 times during the last week. It seems to correspond with the creation of Radio_dump files in the /sdcard/ dir.
Nexus S, Android 2.3.3 Root
I get the same issue on A1 in Austria, not sure what's causing it, but it is annoying.
Let me give my 2 cents:
Getting this same thing happening all through the various combinations of roms and radio firmware, device is Nexus S 9020T, network is T-Mobile in Croatia.
CM 7 with I9020XXJK8 radio
CM 7.0.2 with I9020XXJK8 radio
Blandroid 2.3.4 with I9020XXJK8 radio
Blandroid 2.3.4 with I9020XXKB1 radio
Sometimes there is no pin input screen, so if I don't notice the little icon in the notification bar I'm completely unavailable to calls and sms's. During the time if the Wifi is on it will continue functioning normally, and radio dumps get created.
Will give newer radio firmwares a try before I start crying in my pillow.
Edit: don't know if it happened with stock android 2.3.3 which came on the device, didn't have it on stock for more than 15 minutes.
Alas and damnations, again mobile network radio fail, this time with
radio I9020XXKB3 and blandroid 2.3.4, so issue still present.
Only fix is reboot, airplane toggle does nothing. Does anyone else in europe experience this with a USA T-mobile version nexus?
Giving I9020XXKD1 a try, still with blandroid now 2.3.4p1. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Well well...seems to be a common pattern, as its happened to me a few times also in the last week. First time ive experienced it also...just over a week.ago. cant remember which rom i was using as i.change quite often. May have been a new 2.3.4 mod or just 2.3.3 im not sure. Not a good thing obviously but not a big issue so far. Hasnt happened again since about 3 or 4 days ago now.

Such problems can occur when the SIM is disconnected from power or from reset line or has technical difficulties making it reboot.
Power or reset line can be disconnected if you have your connectors inside your Nexus bent. This can be tested by shaking your phone heavily in all directions. Be careful not to drop it. If the Enter SIM or the Enter PIN dialog appears, It's most likely a mechanical defect of your phone.
If the SIM is broken it may be reset itself. You can't really test this. Maybe something appears in the system or radio log. Another way would be to place your SIM in a known-to-work phone. If similar problems occur it's a broken SIM. You should call your provider to send you a new one.

Those are some good advices, thank you.
I would rule out bent pins as the cause and also no amount of shaking produces the problem, and the problem happened always when the phone was on the desk (and connected to wifi for what its worth).
However, a broken sim - maybe. I haven't had any problems with it so far in any of the 2 previous phones and I'm careful handling it, but the radio log suggestion is excellent.
I will definitely go through it next time it happens ( its "adb logcat -b radio" so others don't have to search for it)
Does anyone got a solution on this?
I found today about 10 - 15 dump-files located in my SD-Card.
Its probably caused by an App which we all use... but i couldnt figure out which one...
is there a dump-debbuging programm which i can use or something else?
It's kind of interesting
Using a Nexus S in Austria (T-Mobile)
I've "solved" this by disabling the PIN altogether and setting up a script to run when the network is changed to delete any radio dumps:

It doesn't seem to matter which ROM, radio or kernel I use....I wonder if this is a hardware defect?
sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is to report that on my sns on pete alfonso's 4.0.3 rom and matrix 14.5 CFS and KF1 + KD1, I still get this problem of the radio dying.
has anyone found a solution?
to be more precise, the mobile network connection (calls and data) randomly dies and the only way to get it back is to restart phone. airplane mode doesn't help.
Hey guys, I'm having issues with loss of signal. I'm going from -83dBm 15asu HSPA to complete dead signal, not even a phone signal. It just seems within the last week my phone's connection quality has gone down the toilet. Another issue I'm seeing is when I make a call, I have a dead time when the call connects, like 2-3 seconds where I can hear them, but they can't hear me.
A few facts about my device:
CM7.0.0
12.28h.60.140.fU_26.06.02.27_M - Radio
I dropped the phone a few weeks ago, but wasn't having this or any other issues.
This issue happens periodically and can happen several times in a few minutes, to once, and not again for the rest of the day.
-Also- I'm running beautiful widgets with the weather+time+date widget, and all the weather information is gone. IE: clouds, sun, rain, etc.
Just updated to nightly 92, installed the latest radio, cleared EFS data, and installed pershoots kernel, taking time after each step to see if it continued. I just had a 5 minute stretch with no signal. I'm at a loss..

I had this saaaaaaame issue up until yesterday, I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.0.2 and I had previously "upgraded" my radio to 26.08.04.30; but just downgraded to 26.08.04.16.
This resolved a number of issues for me including the signal loss, the answer delay, an SMS send issue, and my battery life has also greatly improved.
You can download the radio here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Support_Downloads#HTC_Vision
Not sure if this may work for you, but give it a shot and let us know!

could very well be the SIM card itself.. especially if you dropped the phone recently. did the same with my G2 and started having intermittent signal loss, reseating the SIM card fixed it.
Hi, i have problems with random reboots its really annoying.
Some roboots arent random - when i recieve/send sms phone reboots almost everytime or when someone calls me its the same - reboot.
Any fix for this?
Thx
I have Defy+ (MB526), 2.3.6 android, 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e kernel, stock ROM
try wipe or flash other sbf that you can flash
Don't flash anything, if it persists after a wipe, send it back

Someone on this forum reported rebooting issues caused by a slightly shorter than spec battery (actually a few people as I recall). When the phone was moved it often rebooted and the fix was to add a single piece of electrical tape to the end opposite contacts. May be worth a try.
Switch to 2g and mobile data off then see if it reboots.
Might be this-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21237004#post21237004
Ok, thanks for the answers, flashing doesnt work Ive tried it many times..
Ive just tried 2G and electrical tape, hope it will work
A few causes might possibly be the answer.
1) firstly confirmed the rom by playing the overclock settings. Some rom having too low on voltage or frequency setting. Or the rom itself is not stable. Flashing another rom is only way to confimed this.
2) Battery might have factory defect, use battery monitor widget to monitor the voltages/current of the battery consumption. change battery(borrow from friend) to see if the reboot still happen.
3) Check battery connection on the phone. Make sure no loose around it.
4) If all the above still causes the random reboots. you can return it back to the shop to repair the handset.
seems switching to 2G helped, no reboot since switch, thanks
This is the same problem I had with my Defy+
It used to reboot randomly for no reason even when siting on a desk doing nothing
all of a sudden i would hear a notification to say the sd card was loaded informing me it was rebooted.
When it does decide to reboot it can do up to 4 or 5 reboots continuously
I sent it back and got a new one.
The new one does the same thing but very rarely
maybe once every month or 2 months
I have posted about this on the Motorola Forums and There are other people with the exact same problem as us.
One of them mentioned they had to send their phone bak to Motorola and they replaced the main board and will get back to say how it went.
But since then no answer and Motorola changed their forums

Can you confirm if it's 2G or tape?
I purchased Defy+ 20 days ago with exactly same configuration as the one described in the beginning of this thread. Phone reboots at random when I am in the middle of conversation, or while accessing data through mobile network or while present in areas with extremely low single. I tried using a new SIM, checked loose ends (if any) of the battery i.e. stuck a 1 layer of tape on one end, also switched to 2G. The phone continues to reboot especially when I access internet on mobile network, and also booted once while I am in a call.
Unfortunately the customer service in India (any company) would be pathetic so I'm not hopeful in having Motorola fix the problem if I take the piece to their support centers...
Narasimha
Narashima,
I have heard of Defy going crazy when trying to access data in an area where the data signal is weak and goes in and out. Can you confirm you are getting reboots if you turn data OFF? Not sure how your phone is configured, but I mean even cut off 2G.
I need help this is driving me insane!
I've been running Dynamic Kat Rom for about 6 months or so now. Everything was working fine then all of a sudden a week or two ago I noticed my mobile data is not enabling at all.
I can only connect on Wifi and only receive SMS.
I've tried
- Messing will all the data/network settings
- Turning Mobile Data on and off -- no effect
- Toggling Airplane Mode on and off as suggested in some places
- Wiping everything but Data and reflashing latest ROM
- Reseating the SIM card
- several other things I forgot..
I do see the carrier information in the top left (AT&T) and I am getting signal bars.. but not indicator for 4G/LTE/etc
I've been messing with this for a week now and it's driving me insane.. I can't get a connection anywhere unless I'm on Wifi.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not super phone savvy, but willing to try any suggestions anyone may have.
Hmmm.. weird.
So I called AT&T and asked them about it.. figuring it could possibly be a carrier issue.
They told me to try things I had already done 100 times.. turn the phone off and on.. turn wifi off... etc.
I turned Wifi off... (which I had done 50,000 times before) and 4G popped up.
I guess they did something. So.. guess it's resolved.
Problem has returned.. same issue. I will have 4G signal for hours and then all of a sudden it will drop completely and I can't get a data signal no matter what I do.
I see AT&T in the corner and have signal bars, so I AM getting some kind of signal.. but no data connection whatsoever.
It seems completely random and intermittent.. I can have data signal for days with no issues then I will lose it for days.
Restarting the phone 5-20 times sometimes fixes it.. but that's about it. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Bad signal / carrier issue?
Call them and report a fault in your area?
I have called them multiple times, they will reset the signal.. sometimes it will come back right away, sometimes it wont.
And this happens regardless of where I am. I know for a fact where I am right now has a great signal strength. I get 4-5 bars on average. But this also happens at home as well about 20 miles away, which also has a good signal, or anywhere I go really it can happen. This isn't in the middle of nowhere either, it's smack in the middle of SoCal (LA/OC)
I'm beginning to think it may be a SIM card issue or a hardware issue with the phone. I'm going to try asking them to send me a new SIM card.
Another thing I will notice is when I have a working 4G LTE connection, and I'm on Wifi... it will sometimes CONSTANTLY switch back and forth between wifi and 4G like every 10 seconds, even when I have full signal strength on Wifi and 4G.
Disable Smart Network Switching in WiFi settings
it's nothing but a buggy headache, disabling might fix most of your problems, almost certainly the constant switching back and forth
Yeah forgot to mention I have disabled that. It's disabled now. It solves the constant switching back and forth (when I actually have a data connection), but that's kind of a separate issue as the losing data connection.
Im in Norway with Telenor subscription. When my Edge+ is LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) Im experiencing several issues:
1. During phonecalls:
- Several times during a call, I can hear the other party, but they can not hear me for several seconds
- The sound become "static", and the phonecall ends.
2. During browsing:
- Page never loads
I cant find any system in these problems, they can happen in places with good reception, or it can be during driving (handsfree).
But all these issues disappear if I set the phone in 2G only, then everything is working perfectly.
What I've tried:
- Reset APN
- Enter APN manually
Any suggestions?
I'm in Norway too but with NetCom. I've used my wife's Telenor SIM card in my Edge+ a few times, not really noticed any difference except for slightly worse sound during calls. Har du ringt Telenor?

No, Im not rooted, and running stock firmware. Ive not installed viper4android. The problem has been there from day one
Hmm... I'm rooted and have Viper. Are you locked to Telenor? If not, try and loan a Netcom/Djuice/Chess/whatever SIM card and test - at least then you should definitely know if it's a device problem or a Telenor problem.
What's your signal strength (Settings>About phone>SIM card status)?

I'm not locked, so I will try a simcard from a different operator. When I have auto connect (LTE, 3g 2g) its constantly shifting between H and H+.
Where I'm now, the signal strengt is stable on -51 dBm 31 asu (Mobile network type EDGE).
Switching to (LTE, 3G, 2G) its -65 dBm 24 asu (Mobile network type LTE)
I can confirm having the same issue #2 as OP in Sweden with Halebop as my carrier, but I only got it once and since then there has been several security updates so I though this issue was one of the things fixed (thanks Samsung for not supplying a proper changelog)
I've just tried with two Telenor SIM cards from my wife and son - both work fine. I'd contact Telenor again and ask for real help... Their customer service is dreadful, that's why I switched to NetCom. Lykke til?

I sometimes have the same problem. Called my service provider (Telenor) today. They are going to send me a new SIM-car, going to se if thats help, and Im going to test with anoter service providers SIM-card
Got the new SIM-card last week.. Same problem, people people can't hear me for 3-10 seconds several times during a phonecall. And data seems to "hang" from time to time. Tried a full factory reset this weekend, so are going to test more next week. And then try a Netcom SIM-card

Just to recap
I returned the phone, and I just got an email from the repairs workshop saying it was a warranty. I dont know if I get a new phone, or if they have repaired the old one.
update: got an email from repairs workshop. They did a network calibration and "reinstalled software". After that they tested the phone OK. I think I will get the phone this week.
I have same problem now, only work on 2g. When on 3g phonecalls hanging all the time.

Same problem here.
In general, the problem is not with the sim card neither phone hardware. The problem usually is with any app that we have installed. To ensure this, switch on the phone in SAFE MODE ( safe mode temporally turns off all user-installed apps). To do that:
1. Switch off the phone
2. Wait at least 1 minute
3.Press and hold volume down button AND the power button
4.Once screen lights up, you can release power button but you should NOT release the volume down button
5. Hold the volume down button until you get the lock screen
You will notice there is a Safe mode icon in bottom left of the lock screen.
Now try to do some phone calls and accurate if the phone call sound is ok. If so, you must uninstall all your apps and discover which one is making this problem

Are you talking seriously?? First of all, I think that finding out that the problem isn't neither from sim card or hardware, is a great new, and now you are asking which app YOU have installed is the problematic?! Lol ok, I suppose to believe you're naïve and I can help a bit...
It is not necessarily only one or the same app for both. Sometimes can be one in conflict with another also installed, one in conflict with the specific firmware of each one or one of several app's with low maturity (you can check it in Google play). I can give you an idea: for instance, periscope app is very problematic in android. But there are a lot of a lot problematic app's. So, as they are so much, there is only a solution if you don't have an idea: uninstall all of them ( phone hard reset preferably) and after this, install one by one manually (not restore any backup cause the errors come again). After each app installation, make some calls to check any call sound problem. When you notice the problem in call sound, the cause is in the last app that you've installed immediately before this. For next time, check with attention after installing any app if any problem appear and never install several app's in the same time to have time to notice problems in a narrow way...
Anyway, you can write here your conclusions
