I don't have one of these yet but am thinking about getting one soon.... i was going to get the Dopod 838pro but not sure i need the qwerty keyboard.... plus i like the idea of a gps and fm radio.
So, to my question, do you think HTC/Dopod will ever release a ROM that will allow the trinity to "be all that it can be"- ie- use gps, fm radio etc.
Should we be buying this product on this hope?
Thanks
HTC will definately do something about it since pressure from iPhone is coming... but not sure about Trinity. If you can wait, get iPhone

oh no, now the Apple cult is going to spoil mobile phone forums too.
yeah the iphone does look awesome... pity i hate ipods...... at this stage the iphone is not 3G. When it does become 3G it would be great..... i suppose i will have to buy a mac for it to work properly.....
One good hting about the iphone coming out, as you said is that the other companies will stop being so greedy and actually release a phone that does everything- eg. the trinity is meant to be all in one but they didnt activate it all..... maybe now they will have to!!!
Yes. I think i will wait and see what everyone comes up with.......

GPS
FM radio
more configurable hardware button (e.g. start, ok button)
no fm radio on trinity board
...but i really want fm radio!
I'm sure i've spotted within another thread a picture of the board inside the artemis and trinity which basically showed them to be v similar... and an fm chip on the trinity board.
i'm going to be getting a trinity - probably the m700 when it hits the shops in london - but don't understand this fm radio thing (it would complete the product!)
does the dopod model not have fm radio on it's variant? if so, surely all trinity's do, no? is a variant not all about branding and software as opposed to the actual tecky stuff inside?
also, supposing the trinity doesn't have this fm chip... can we not get a plug which has the tuner on it then we just install some kind of software? - i'm thinking of these ipod remote controllers which give an ipod radio functionality.
great to see the gps problem solved - even if by way of leaked room - but lets finalise the trinity with an fm radio too!!

I was watching the video and saw the TV-OUT option at 5:49 onward. I wonder what that implies, but I'm sure someone on here knows. Also, the wireless tether or mifi option is kickass.
That's not the HD2 in the video - its the Touch Pro 2.
@robertlewisca : exactly - but isnt it a Leo ROM?
if it is a rhodium rom its understandable...
Miri, the ROM cook, has confirmed that is from the TP2, and that the Leo ROM contained no TV out packages.

so okay, no tv-out out of the box.. but.. what about the micro-usb. it is capable of more functionality than the ordinary mini usb, right? maybe in the future some company is delivering us tv-out trhough micro-usb. I don't really see the point of it actually, since the screen so huge, it can be seen from across the street.

Maybe you live in a Candy world on the superduper lollipop street.
NO TV OUT.
end of history, we have see this even in the TYTN II and people saying "BUT BUT SOMEONE WILL BRING IT TO US"
No. nobody will bring tv-out on HD2 to us, If you dont like or you can't accept it, buy other device, because HD2 will never have TV-out.

They've got 10 of these on a wall near my house. It's considered the local multiplex!
TV-out, yes
The Norwegian HTC tells that the HD2 have TV-out, but only by using an optional special TV-out cable normally not in the box.
I have been looking for more info onthis, but I can notfind it.
This ws reported on sme of the Norwegian teckno webs.
B3ler3fonte did you have some info about this?
There is no room for TV-out in the micro-USB connector. There is not even room for audio out. All audio, in and out, must go through the 3.5 jack, which does have four pins. Therefore, it is scientifically possible for one of these pins to play double duty, running TV-out through the microphone pin. However, these would require a pure software solution, as merely plugging in a TV-out cable cannot tell the HD2 to turn it on as it did for all previous HTC products with TV-out.
Therefore, unless the TV-out hardware was a free install, such as a function of the processor that all you must do to use it is not disable it, then TV-out is unlikely.
no room for audio on micro-usb?? Check Nokia HS-82 and Motorola S280 or Samsung microUSB headsets and think again!!
MAybe it does
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2009/09/18/the-htc-leo-has-a-digital-compass-and-tv-out/
This site says the original Leo (HD2) has tv out and digital compass and was hoping it would be enabled on retail so maybe a chance with these wonderful rom builders out here.
once again XDA, will be making things work how they should in the first place !
I hope someone can make this work, but rumors have it the hardware is not there.
Update: i searched in the registry and some things did came up like:
HKLM\\Drivers\Display\TV
HKLM\\Drivers\Display\TV\PanelDLL
HKLM\\Software\HTC\H2W\TVOutCableIn
Not sure if those mean anything.

I wonder... HKLM\\Software\HTC\H2W\TVOutCableIn is set to 0.
It seems there are other HTC phones which do not have tv-out enabled by default but with an Iphone tv-out cable and a converter it should be possible to enable tv-out with a simple cab file with those devices.
Check it out here!
Would this be doable for the HD2?? I do not have a converter, but I do have a Nokia n96 tv-out cable at home. I will try it when I come home. Otherwise is there someone with a micro usb to mini usb adapter and a htc connector adapter and a Iphone tv-out cable willing to try?? Here you can download the cab file.
I always thought that if it was latent on the device it would be supported via the 3.5mm jack ... not the MicroUSB. Most devices like the iPod, N95 etc use the 3.5m jack.
The other interesting thing was that the supplied headphones came with 3 black rings which normally indicates AV rather than just audio.
Would be great for someone to see if it is latent ... the thought of having similar devices such as the TP2 and HD .... one having TV-Out and other not ... always felt artificial to me .... fingers crossed.
Paul.
In the link, it is mentioned that this setup does not work with HD, so it may not be an option on the HD2 as well.

But the HD has a different chipset/cpu than HD2 and the registry entry is there... as soon as I get home I will stuff my N96 tv-out cable in there and hope for the best

On play.com (http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...nlocked-5-Megapixel-Mobile-Phone/Product.html)
They state:
Radio: Stereo FM radio with RDS
Not sure that is the case - unless the UK Models will have this?
yes this has been discussed already. The Nexus One has an FM Radio chip but theres is NO software yet that uses it.

Surely then they cant state that as a "Feature" then.
They dont. Nowhere on the official site either on HTC or www.google.com/phone is FM radio advertised as a feature or even mentioned that it exists. This was only found out when ifixit.com did a teardown of the phone and found the chip hidden inside. Whatever info a third party advertises should not be read as official in any way.

First, there are only two tabs.
Second, they are brass, not gold.
Third, I believe they are springs designed to keep the door under tension and facilitate its removal.

The ones you are talking about are on either side of the phone when you take the cover off. There are corresponding spots on the cover. Mine are a silver color. The ones the original poster asked about are indeed gold in color and number in three. I say they are there for testing purposes. A faster way to connect to the phone maybe.
The HTC carkit mount comes with a special battery door cover, that the mount snaps into, and also connects through...so it's just a guess (I don't have the carkit myself), but I'd think those are the pins that the car mount uses to pass data, or current for charging

Yes, i would say the same thing. I would guess they are for the car kit because the base of the car kit has power running through it
I would have to jump on the bandwagon on this one and say yes to the carkit feature, due to the pictures found here:

I tell this to my own children, don't take anything personal on the InterNet?,
Get what you can out of it? and filter the Trash?, and yes I am really human so on occasion I will have trash too?
If you look at the very simple "Question" I was asking? "Do You Know?" what this is? and if you do? "Please" let me and everyone who is Interested "KNOW"
If you are one of the low percentage of people who are self-aware, then you will understand this?
I spend time on the InterNet and most of that time is spent Filtering the Trash?
70% of what is written here serves no purpose? and of course there will be those who will debate? and I don't care? because it's the InterNet! need I explain that?
To all the "Sensitive People" out there? Have a Happy Great Day!

If we removed all the responses that weren't certain, you'd be sitting here talking to yourself right now.
Most everyone who tried to point you in the right direction did indeed mention that their answers (mine included) were speculation and not first-hand knowledge. If that isn't useful to you, we've granted all forum members the right to ignore any post they want. Yes, any. And we set it up such that you can (and should!) do so without flaming anybody
Someone truly self-aware would recognize that even if help doesn't come in the exact form requested, it's not worthy of disdain.

You are right on many things, but I was not looking for "Absolutes", I was just looking for some "Idea" for it what it might be?
and I regress in my reasoning in putting "Wrong" x3, once should have been enough, my skin became thin from just leaving a controversial site so my frustration level was all wound up?, That I apologies for.
On the matter that I would be "Sitting by Myself?" (Billy Idol,"Dancing with Myself" come to mind) , you are right!, I forgot to turn "Filter" on, so I committed same "Sin", like I said please forgive that one?, I could talk all day about how "If" people would act? but we don't live in a perfect world? actually the opposite.
and for all, as I said before, Have a Happy Great Day!
Lets now leave the Emotional part and get to the Fun Tech Part.
I did find out by talking to T-Mobile Rep Tier 2, it "Is" a Test port, has communication I/O, and can be used for Kar Kit with BlueTooth/bottom micro USB port.
The "Test port" is what I am interested because if you can talk using USB architecture then you can do other things with it? example; Robotics, card readers, Web Cams and many more?, I have been reading the Registry for any clues, or Info on this? That is why I brought up this topic?
The "Test port" is used at factory for reliability testing in a burn-in chamber that they use for getting faulty units out of the mix?
This is what I have so far? if anyone else can add pertinent info it will be greatly appreciated.

You did manage to make my ignore list though. Congratulations!
Yeah, those spots are where the back cover used with the car kit connect to the car kit. I never heard of them being used for anything else, but it might be possible. I think power and audio can be sent through those. It also tells the HD2 to go into the navipanel when carkit is connected to it. When looking through the registry, look around the navipanel stuff. It would be cool if we could find some more uses for that port.
More info
I was told that the center tab is data negative and the left tab is data positive and they use case for ground, now I need to figure out how the USB interface works with this? I have been searching the T-Mobile USA HTC HD2 threads for info, but have not found anything? will try the other HD2 original thread to see if anything there can help?
Maybe there is a ROM list of commands supported somewhere to help in the communication interface,
I rigged a 3 wire interface for monitoring only I don't want to put any signals in yet until I understand how it is working?and I am using a program called Boxcar to send signals out of which I can see changes but have yet to determine exact output? This is going to take some time?
Boxcar is a WM2003 program but seems to work with WM 6.5 and is good to use because of the wide variety of interfaces it can use withe the USB transceiver module, Temperature probes, pressure transducers and DAC's Digital to Analog Converters, I also have a serial module but I don't want to go that way? USB is the preferred faster interface.
But ultimately my goal is to make my own Kar Kit interface with a greater amount of control of what it does?
I had already built an Interface that works well with the Ford Sync interface on my car (I use to work for a company that built TED Air condition seats for Ford so I am familiar with the system), but that is using my Laptop and I would like to do the same using only the HD2? Baby steps.
I don't know if anyone here has the knowledge about the HD2 to help me? as it's a new device and info is minimal? I may have to wait until that info level is reached?

Good Grief,
You need one of those things in your post saying "Do not try this at home" I can see it now all these folks sautering wires to the backside of their phones.... And then saying "my phone just smoke checked, what do I do"
does anyone know what the ports are under the battery case: R1, R2/g, W1, W2
I figured they may be the antennas ....just not sure which is which.
trying to boost my reception and hoping one is for that.
thanks
Don't plug anything in them. The last time I did that it stopped the antenna from working unless something was in there.

Best guess would be radio shack or best buy. I had a quasimo(sp?) Laptop for a few weeks that had a port like this, came with an external antenna...clipped right on. Didn't help -much- with wifi, id assume the same for other bands. Sold the laptop or id try my self.
Also someone said in this or another thread about the ports that they tried an antenna and they couldn't get signal back after disconnecting.

are you referring to the 2nd post in this thread.. or did someone else besides that person claim the signal didnt work?
not sure why the signal wouldnt work unless they used the wrong adaptor.. or broke the fitting.
id assume id need a special 2.6ghz antenna since id want this for wimax? and i guess just try each port to see which gives me better signal? is there a diagram anywhere thatd say what each port was for?
My guess is that they are voltage testing points for q/c.
