First, there are only two tabs.
Second, they are brass, not gold.
Third, I believe they are springs designed to keep the door under tension and facilitate its removal.

The ones you are talking about are on either side of the phone when you take the cover off. There are corresponding spots on the cover. Mine are a silver color. The ones the original poster asked about are indeed gold in color and number in three. I say they are there for testing purposes. A faster way to connect to the phone maybe.
The HTC carkit mount comes with a special battery door cover, that the mount snaps into, and also connects through...so it's just a guess (I don't have the carkit myself), but I'd think those are the pins that the car mount uses to pass data, or current for charging

Yes, i would say the same thing. I would guess they are for the car kit because the base of the car kit has power running through it
I would have to jump on the bandwagon on this one and say yes to the carkit feature, due to the pictures found here:

I tell this to my own children, don't take anything personal on the InterNet?,
Get what you can out of it? and filter the Trash?, and yes I am really human so on occasion I will have trash too?
If you look at the very simple "Question" I was asking? "Do You Know?" what this is? and if you do? "Please" let me and everyone who is Interested "KNOW"
If you are one of the low percentage of people who are self-aware, then you will understand this?
I spend time on the InterNet and most of that time is spent Filtering the Trash?
70% of what is written here serves no purpose? and of course there will be those who will debate? and I don't care? because it's the InterNet! need I explain that?
To all the "Sensitive People" out there? Have a Happy Great Day!

If we removed all the responses that weren't certain, you'd be sitting here talking to yourself right now.
Most everyone who tried to point you in the right direction did indeed mention that their answers (mine included) were speculation and not first-hand knowledge. If that isn't useful to you, we've granted all forum members the right to ignore any post they want. Yes, any. And we set it up such that you can (and should!) do so without flaming anybody
Someone truly self-aware would recognize that even if help doesn't come in the exact form requested, it's not worthy of disdain.

You are right on many things, but I was not looking for "Absolutes", I was just looking for some "Idea" for it what it might be?
and I regress in my reasoning in putting "Wrong" x3, once should have been enough, my skin became thin from just leaving a controversial site so my frustration level was all wound up?, That I apologies for.
On the matter that I would be "Sitting by Myself?" (Billy Idol,"Dancing with Myself" come to mind) , you are right!, I forgot to turn "Filter" on, so I committed same "Sin", like I said please forgive that one?, I could talk all day about how "If" people would act? but we don't live in a perfect world? actually the opposite.
and for all, as I said before, Have a Happy Great Day!
Lets now leave the Emotional part and get to the Fun Tech Part.
I did find out by talking to T-Mobile Rep Tier 2, it "Is" a Test port, has communication I/O, and can be used for Kar Kit with BlueTooth/bottom micro USB port.
The "Test port" is what I am interested because if you can talk using USB architecture then you can do other things with it? example; Robotics, card readers, Web Cams and many more?, I have been reading the Registry for any clues, or Info on this? That is why I brought up this topic?
The "Test port" is used at factory for reliability testing in a burn-in chamber that they use for getting faulty units out of the mix?
This is what I have so far? if anyone else can add pertinent info it will be greatly appreciated.

You did manage to make my ignore list though. Congratulations!
Yeah, those spots are where the back cover used with the car kit connect to the car kit. I never heard of them being used for anything else, but it might be possible. I think power and audio can be sent through those. It also tells the HD2 to go into the navipanel when carkit is connected to it. When looking through the registry, look around the navipanel stuff. It would be cool if we could find some more uses for that port.
More info
I was told that the center tab is data negative and the left tab is data positive and they use case for ground, now I need to figure out how the USB interface works with this? I have been searching the T-Mobile USA HTC HD2 threads for info, but have not found anything? will try the other HD2 original thread to see if anything there can help?
Maybe there is a ROM list of commands supported somewhere to help in the communication interface,
I rigged a 3 wire interface for monitoring only I don't want to put any signals in yet until I understand how it is working?and I am using a program called Boxcar to send signals out of which I can see changes but have yet to determine exact output? This is going to take some time?
Boxcar is a WM2003 program but seems to work with WM 6.5 and is good to use because of the wide variety of interfaces it can use withe the USB transceiver module, Temperature probes, pressure transducers and DAC's Digital to Analog Converters, I also have a serial module but I don't want to go that way? USB is the preferred faster interface.
But ultimately my goal is to make my own Kar Kit interface with a greater amount of control of what it does?
I had already built an Interface that works well with the Ford Sync interface on my car (I use to work for a company that built TED Air condition seats for Ford so I am familiar with the system), but that is using my Laptop and I would like to do the same using only the HD2? Baby steps.
I don't know if anyone here has the knowledge about the HD2 to help me? as it's a new device and info is minimal? I may have to wait until that info level is reached?

Good Grief,
You need one of those things in your post saying "Do not try this at home" I can see it now all these folks sautering wires to the backside of their phones.... And then saying "my phone just smoke checked, what do I do"
So the other day I was sitting in olive garden in San Diego and next to me at the bar a guy took out his Vibrant and then proceeded to connect what looked like a micro ff camera on the top of the phone using the USB connection and started to move it around as if he was showing someone on the other end where he was. Has anyone seen this besides myself. It seems like it is pretty possible.I would love to add a FFC to my vibrant.

no doubt, I would have interrupted the dude's cyber-date in a heartbeat to find out how
I doubt it was an FFC. Logically he could have shown someone the place using the RFC just as easily. I bet it was a battery boost or something.
Besides, something like that would take a good deal of development, and doubtful he was working alone and in secret on something like that.

Is there a way to add a 1700MHz antenna to the streak hardware?
I figure since they made a few of the streaks with the 1700MHz antenna, there might be a way?
I also thought I would email the guys who did the tear down of the streak to get their opinion.

Jenn on streak smart made a similar comment... "1) there's a string of evidence that a T-Mobile version of the existing Streak will eventually be released," in the 12-26 post at www.streaksmart.com
She doesn't give any details about what the "string of evidence" is... so I'm not sure what she's talking about... have you guys heard anything?
Maybe they will announce something at CES... I have so far not been able to make contact with anyone about soldering in a new AWS antenna... and may wait to see what happens next week.
If they are going to release a 5" Streak with Tmo I will wait... not sure about the 7" which apparently will be available thru Tmo from the get go... I had a Galaxy Tab for a while and altho I loved it... it was kind of big to carry around all the time... maybe the Dell will be lighter or thinner, who knows.

I sure keep my eye on streaksmart.com. And did read Jenn mentioning about TMo-US version of Streak, but that's about it.
I really want Streak to work with TMo which it does but EDGE is too slow.
Lets see what happens in next few days at CES.
Also, where would to get this "AWS Antenna"?
My thought is to get a broken phone with the right kind of antenna... it's kind of a long shot I know, in terms of it fitting in the Streak case... also, I note by googling that the antennas are attached to a cable, so soldering might not be the way.
I will wait to see what happens at CES and if there is no 5" Streak with Tmo antennas, then I will contact the guys that did the Streak tear down (and lots of other cell phone teardowns) to see if replacing the antenna with one that has 1700/2100 MHz is possible... since Dell made some of the units that way, somehow it must be... but I'm not sure if it would take that exact antenna or if another one could be used somehow... that is the question.

Theoretically you probably could. You'd have to get the hardware, which probably isn't too easy for the average consumer. Then you'd have to swap it out with what's in there already. Even if you get the hardware swapped and manage to not ruin anything else innside the phone, there's one minor hurdle: software. You'd have to have a radio that worked with 1700. If you swap out current hardware with what shipped in the test builds that were handed out as demo units, you could probably find that old radio. If you swap it out with something that's only AWS, you'll have to essentially build your own radio. At least, that's my understanding.
While it all may be theoretically possible, I think it's a gigantic waste of time, effort, and money. Try to pick up a demo unit that supports AWS. They gave those out in Texas, right? If memory serves...

As long as they have 5" version which will work on TMo-US 3G bands, I am happy!
SoberGuy is right, kinda. You will need a new radio, although not in the software sense - the actual hardware that generates the RF signals, not just the antenna. Think of it as having a CB radio and putting a TV antenna on it - it won't make your CB transmit on TV frequencies.

Thx kd5uzz... so I'd need a radio and antenna... of course that makes sense that it would need something for receiving AND sending!
Since I origially posted this thread there have been some (unofficial) rumblings of the Streak 7 being released on Tmobile... so I am considering waiting for it. Also, Jenn on streaksmart has alluded to the "existing" version Streak being released on Tmo in 2011 as well.
And as I mentioned above, I have also heard about a "more than 5 in. " Palm tabphone called the Mansion that is planned for March 11 release (yeah, I know... subject to slippage of course).... that will be on Sprint... which would work fine too.
So I guess I'm not feeling the need to do a teardown/rebuild yet... but thx again for the input... I still think it can be done but I'm also dealing with some other issues at the moment.
You cant just swap antennas, the circuit board and the software must be able to support. If this was possible somebody would have figured it out by now.

First of all i love this phone to death
But theres only 1 problem
When im in low signal areas and i hold the phone on the bottom left with my left hand, it loses signal, kinda like the problem with the iphone 4
But when i release my hand from there it gets signal again
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
You're covering the antenna. It's not "the problem the iphone 4 has", it's the problem all phones have when you cover the antenna. They lose signal. It's just easier to notice when you have a lower than usual signal to begin with. (or in the case of the iphone 4 its easier to cover an exposed antenna.)

Most phones do that if you cover the antenna. If you slide out the keyboard and hold it normally, you'll also lose your wi-fi signal.

Just an fyi flashing radios is one of the safest things you can do. Since it goes through the bootloader there a few failsafes built in. People have tried purposely to brick there phone that way so they can send it to tmobile and no one was ever able to. Flashing things through fastboot is safer than crossing a street.

dont worry about it. Changing your radio will not in any way make up for the fact that when you physically cover the antenna your signal deteriorates.

Think of your antenna like a flashlight. Cover the bulb and you get no light. Same concept, cover the antenna and you get no signal. Changing the radio MIGHT do something, but no software can overcome a hardware handicap. Since you dont know how to root either, id recommend staying away from anything related to modding your phone until you're ready.

XDA has become a place for assholes to hangout, over sensitive little pricks that help no one.
Do you have a case on your phone?

Check actual signal numbers in status, not bars. They are finicky.

Thanks.. its good for the XDA Reputation..why we should donate btw?
Now,ontopic.. no case on the phone.
Settings/signal:
In my hands (or someone els his hands) i get -85 dBm 16asu (in the bad areas it go's to -105 dBm)
Not in hands i get -78 dBm 16asu
Nobody knows a answer
The best thing would be to get more than one phone and test it a bit. I really can't give any better advice :/

I agree. Not all answers u get are helpful.
But your reaction is uncalled for, abusive and unnecessary.
It tells me more about you.
In this case there is no clear fix. Since it has been said, that 2 phones have this problem with 1 person.
Maybe its bad luck with phones.
Maybe he is too statically charged or something.
But in anyway, there is no need for this. Its especially annoying to me when it includes people who are in this community longer then u and contributed so much more.

Actually, i had the same thing at first. And it started getting worse after i flashed cm based roms and i had no idea what was causing it.
Then i took of the back cover with a removing tool and noticed how the antennas where set up.
Tip, dont hold your hand or fingers near the top right corner. If i'm not mistaken that is where the gsm antenna is located.
At least the signal doesn't drop completely anymore for me now.
Oh and i get better reception with stock LG rom.
Ps: if i'm wrong about the antenna placement then I'm truly sorry, just trying to help.
bro you have superpowers
Do you wear a lot of statically charging materials? Wool, certain synthetics etc? Just guessing really
