OddBall Issues : Posterized Camera - Touchscreen issues - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dropped my phone a few months back, it was in a trident case. But ever since then the camera has been....off. I didn't notice it at first because I switched roms and when I tried the camera I figured it was just the rom. But every app is the same.
It looks like a combination of posterized + solar effect is always on, and its very low quality. Does not matter what setting you change. You can change MP, turn off effects, mess with color, hue, saturation, flash. All look the same.
So, big deal I figured my camera got damaged. I promptly ordered a new one off ebay, opened the phone up and replaced the camera.
Same thing. Checked the front camera, Same thing.
Was given a broken Mytouch4G by a coworker, took it apart and grabbed the entire top daughterboard with all the IO/camera/microphone connections. Same damn thing.
Wtf did I break?
Second Issue : prior to that I have been living with another issue. I can't access the very bottom of my touchscreen. Sure I can add and remove apps from the dock. But if an app has a thin button on the bottom I simply cannot push it.It will always select whatever is above where I clicked. Currently using latest PACMAN rom, but it has done this with many roms.
Any Idea's? I am going to be upgrading soon but have always wondered if I was the only one.

g1 camera messed up? IS it doomed?

Ok, jsut got this thing off of ebay, power it all up I notice someone has been inside. eh no real biggie.. I unlock it and test the major functions.. all works. Bring up the camera and holy crap its like looking through the eyes of a lawn gnome tripping off shrooms and acid.. take a look (attached)
I rewiped.. installed Fx Camera to see if it was a setting, and also wiped the memory card (which came with the phone.. cool!) I then turn around and see that the camera lens is cracked on the battery cover, however the lens inside looks pretty good. So, I'm thinking this is a hardware problem, but Im not afraid to try to fix it if its just a few dollars. Am I screwed?
whoah, thats a trip!
If you deem it to be hardware, I have a spare camera from a parted G1. PM if you want details
I may take you up on that, however I am searching google right now to see if you can even replace the CCD
The camera module is on a ribbon cable that attaches to the motherboard, easily removed. So long as the component damaged is not on the mainboard itself you should be fine.
That's what I like to see!
You have a PM
If you plan on taking it apart yourself you need to be extremely careful, i took mine apart to replace the case when i bought it and after putting it back together everything seemed fine but after a while the touchscreen kept dying the camera never worked and my signal dropped all the time, i tried taking it apart and putting it back together several times to no avail. The phone became unuseable and i shelved it for my D600... bad times. It was only until i was going to send my G1 to a phone recycle website that i opened it up one last time, after doing nothing different and putting it back together its for some reason worked ever since. Just a word of warning hope whatever you do works out ok - Adam
Thanks for the warning! Someone already has been in the camera before.. I am going to assume that it was to take a peak at the camera lens so I am not afraid of voiding the warranty. It's no new adventure for me, I have been inside multiple phones and other small electronics, but thank you again. It never hurts to be redundant when opening any electronic device.
PM returned
When disassembling, I like to modify the HTC manual a bit. I remove the back plastic, and the coaxial cables (be VERY CAREFUL when reassembling, they always get pinched!). Then, remove the connectors as instructed EXCEPT the camera. Now, lift the camera portion, as well as the IMEI sticker as a whole module. They are just taped down. When lifted up fully, now you can spin the mainboard out of it's hooks and remove the entire assembly. This was the difficult connection to the camera stays intact. Makes reassembling much easier too, as it will self align.
If you haven't read/downloaded the G1 service manual, you need to!

Whoa! My first phone that has a manual!

My phone just started doing the same thing. I flashed the ADP image to see if it was a bug with the ROM I was using, only to find that it was still all crazy looking. Contemplating if I should try the repair or warranty exchange my phone again, ugghh
mine's doing the same suddenly, according to this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2307654-htc_g1_camera_takes_pictures_messed_up
it's called solarization but how does one turn it off without a hard reset?
I downloaded the Snap Photo app which allows turning solarization on or off but it makes no difference
Any know how to fix this?
starting to look less and less like hardware
Anyone know how to switch this back to normal?
Hate to say it, but I do not see anything that would point this to software. First, if it was a setting or something software related, it would be resolved by the factory reset.. Heck, flashing the rom like JackSlim did would have reset any bad stacks or drivers.
I did find that post by fixya initially and quickly dismissed when I noticed that 1. Fixya blows... 2. there was no resolution 3. this is the same behavior that digital cameras get when the ccd or cmos goes bad..
PLEASE correct me if Im wrong, I would rather be

After reading the post of Fixya I went into Camera Magic and played with some of the setting and couldn't change it back to normal
Unrooted my G1 today, back to stock Donut DRC83, still the same issues, so I'm pretty sure it's not software related. Since I've had the same issue on the latest Cyanogen build, the Android Dev Phone build & the stock Donut build.
Called T-Mobile to get a warranty replacement, so I'm $9.99 and a couple days away from having another phone.
That's my fix anyways
I hope anyone not covered under a warranty is able to find a solution, my guess is you would have to replace the camera itself as Speed mentioned in one of the earlier posts, so look for a parted out phone or a aftermarket parts store and good luck with opening up the phone
As soon as money goes into my paypal account and I replace it I will post my results. Heck, if anyone is interested I will do a step by step for future reference. With pictures taken from a working camera, of course.
The only reason I am thinking software is that it seems like it is occurring to a few people all of a sudden where a week ago none of us had heard of this. I had a accelerometer problem with a G1 and I took it back to the RC29 rom and everything trying to fix it, it never would work. Sent it to HTC and they reflashed it...worked fine. They said there were no hardware issues. That makes me think there must be a bit of software that isnt getting replaced (like bios on a pc?). Perhaps what is going on is hardware..just hard to say right now.
The camera itself may have some firmware that is corrupted. Also possible that there's a fried transistor somewhere along the line. Could even be something really simple, like a bad ribbon cable or connection.
Cheers for Manual link
will greatly help when I swap over from black case to white case
( sticky keys and a mate wanted white one sooo $30 AUD for an complete white kit and hoping for sucsessfull fixed KB glitch )
note that you will still have black buttons for volume and camera, as well as memory card cover. That is what kept me from changing colors on mine- I went with a black replacement case so I didnt have the wrong colored buttons

[Q] Touchscreen Randomly Stopped Working

Ok, so first thing's first. I've been researching this for a few days now before creating this post. The touchscreen issues I'm finding online, are similar to what I'm experiencing, but the solutions have already been done, or my phone is not responding to them. I'm making this thread to see if anyone else has experienced the same issues or has any new news before I a) return my phone to stock, b) replace the digitizer, or c) buy a new one or upgrade to the G3.
My G2 was rooted, but kept on stock ROM with only small tweaks here and there. After the latest update, I noticed my work G2 had much better reception, so I returned my phone to stock to download the update. After updating, I re-rooted the phone, this time, the only thing I changed was the keyboard which I replaced with the G3 keyboard. Everything was fine for months until about a month ago.
It started with not being able to pull down the notification shade on the right half. No biggie, but after a week or so, it got worse. While using instagram, I noticed that the confirm button was sporadically responsive. Sometimes it worked fine, other times it didn't work at all. It began to progressively get worse on an almost daily basis. I decided to see what was going on and enabled both input options in the developer options menu. I found that the entire right side, about 1/8" was not responding to touch, the area not covered by glass screen protector( i removed it later while trying to troubleshoot). The upper right area showed about a half inch block that wasn't responding (the area where the data ribbon is). I was ok with that as instagram was really the only thing I used being affected.
About a week ago, the mid left screen area started being errratic. It began to get worse and started to affect the front touch screen buttons ( the area where the other data ribbon is). I enabled the input options again and saw that I now had a good portion of my left side of the screen was unresponsive. Even though I didn't drop it, I thought maybe the data ribbons had come loose as those 2 areas are where they are. I opened and disassembled the phone and re-sat the connctions after inspecting them. I double-checked all the other connections and LDIs in case humidity was the culprit. Everything looked good. Didn't fix the problem.
I've had to set my phone to unlock by facial recognition to ensure I don't get locked out, and changed my pin to use numbers not affected. I'm going to replace the digitizer, but wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue, or knew if it was, indeed, a software issue before I spend $75 (I will be replacing the digitizer and LCD to get it working sooner rather than risk damaging the LCD while replacing the digitizer and having to wait another week). I don't want to send it in to LG because I bought it on ebay and have no proof of purchase for warranty, and I want it working sooner.
One thing I noticed that may help with diagnosing, the screen now looks different when off. Before, in direct sunlight, you could see the dotted matrix from the digitizer, and that was it. Now, I can see the retangular pattern across the entire screen. I checked my work G2 which I just received a few months ago and the rectangular pattern is only visible on the edges of the screen, the center is black with only the dotted matrix visible. Keep in mind, this is in direct sunlight. In shade, the rectangles are visible on both.
I'm hoping it's a software issue, but I'm wondering if the digitizer is starting to separate from the LCD. I don't see any acutal separation though.
Thanks for reading the book, and for any feedback. Also, because it will probably come up, I want to avoid upgrading if I can because the G3 is just a little too big.
I restored the phone to stock with the most up to date software. Still doesn't work. It appears to be a hardware issue. I really thought it was software because the dead spots word for a split second after turning on the phone. Oh well. Guess I'm going to order a new digitizer or LCD combo.

[Q] Mysterious vertical light banding/gradient.

Hey guys. I have this phone for almost a year now. This problem was quite a while back but now.it seems more annoying to me. When on a gray/dark gray background, such as the quick settings toggle on Lollipop. I can see TWO banding or gradients that WHITEN the place where they are. They are arranged like 1 cm from the left and right edges of the screen. I don't know why they are there.
Questions:
1. Is it because of the battery? Like if the battery got swollen, it pushed the panel. BECAUSE THE BATTERY ALIGNS PERFECTLY WITH THE GRADIENTS ARE PRESENT.
2. Is it because of a faulty LCD Panel? Since this phone had no falls whatsoever, im not sure about the LCD being faulty
I think its the battery
WHY BATTERY?
1. Because the battery might push the panel from the back.
2. The phone when i bought it new had a little *creeking* when i pressed from the side of the sim tray and the bottom. But now there aint. Its like its tightely held up. Something a swollen battery might indicate.
3. The battery life had been worse over the time.
4. I use the phone quiet alot when on charge. So.. Yeah
If anyone has more knowledge about the case. Do leave a response. I will be THANKFUL TO YOU. even a little information will be appreciated and will be THUMBS UP accordingly. Thanks!
Bro i got the same problem. The LG G2 my second phone and this line suck monkeyass. Dont take it to the repair or something it gets worser and worser. LG(Netherlands) also confirmed that this is normal and its written in their specification. I told everyone that they have to buy LG phones but now i strictly say dont buy this phone. I know 3 more people with different screen problems on the G2. Sell it! And dont touch any LG phones.
aame
Ive had this problem on three of my g2's. The first wasnt that noticeable, it was on the right wdge of thw screen. i got it replaced due to permanent lines.
The second had the EXACT same problem you describes, but i noticed it right when i got the phone. It looked like something was pressing too hard on the bottom right corner. Got it replaced.
The third one had a similiar problem. But right in the middle of the screen. When i press anywhere on the screen, rippling appears in the middle of the device. Its as if im pressing in the middle of the screen to hard.
Im currently on my seventh g2, all verizon variants. These phones are GREAT phones performance wise, but they are complete sh1t in every other aspect. Ive had every problem you can with these phone. Screen problems, headphone jack problems, speaker problems, mic problems, and camera problems. Im now saving up for a oneplus one device.

LeEco Pro 3 Display

I have this beautiful and powerful phone LeEco Pro 3 that i`ve been using for half an year or so with AOSIP ROM. Its a wonderful phone with an amazing performance.
The thing is my display started a problem history that has become a long history i will try to resume in a few words.
It started in one day i pressed the power button in order to light the display on and check something in an APP i needed. I found out that before the display lighted on some weird colors and artifacts appeared on screen. But indeed the display worked fine.I thought it was just a temporary thing and just kept using it until In the second day that the weird colors and artifacts became permanent, so i realized i was in trouble. :crying:
Tried sending the phone to technical assistance.
The first one - Told me that they could get a new display for testing but indeed the results were the same and they were seeing oxidation in the display connector on the board, not the display flex cable but the main board connection. They said they would not go further into it and they decided to give the phone back to me. Weird thing is that when i turned the phone one it worked for one day without issues. He said the phone was in the same condition, but that is not what i saw. The problem indeed happened again one day later , but it was less worse as i could at least see the screen, but almost half the screen was horribly shaking, trembling.
The second one - Once the tech guy looked the phone he said he didnt see any sign of the phone getting opened. He said he would be seeing signs of glues or anything like that but in his opinion it was definitely not opened. But he warned me the display could physically brake once he opens it as the phone got contact with oxidation in the toilet(I used to left it in the toiled while i take bath). So i was afraid and decided to back off.
The third one - Said he could not find any display so he sent the phone back to me. Didnt open it at all as he was trying to wait for the new display to arrive in order to be safe. They said they are 90% sure its display replacement would do the job. The thing is - if i used in hot environments the issues seems to slowly disappear . If i use it in cold environments the problems seems to get worse
So here i am. I CAN buy another screen over the internet. But i am afraid if it will work or not. Have anyone there faced same issue? What do you recommend me to do? What would you do
Thanks in advance

There are many many post on this subject, recently in fact. That has links. In fact, you can find them on Alibaba that are all black and made specifically for the Le Pro 3. Here is a link of a guy who used the cool s1 display
Yes it sounds like the display or the flex cables.
Link 1
Here you go cheap and they have the black one

Rear camera issues/not detected

Hello Team,
I've had my Essential Ph-1 for several years and loved it. Recently I replaced the battery with no issues. However, I notice that since replacing the battery, the stock camera app would not launch with an error initializing the camera, and it said to restart the phone. Rebooting the phone made no difference.
I opened the device back up and carefully checked all the wires and connections, and they're all tight and nothing looks cut, cracked, or disconnected. I tried a third party camera app (OpenCamera), and it worked fine on the front facing camera, but the rear camera was in black and white only. Since then I have tried factory resetting and re-flashing the firmware, and now the front camera works (in third party app) but the rear camera is not even recognized and I don't get an option to swap cameras.
Any suggestions? Is there anything I can check to troubleshoot this further?
TIA!

As it's happened at the same time as battery replacement you'd have to think the two are related. Possible try a "simulated battery pull" to ensure camera is powered down, that is a force restart, press power button & vol driven together for 15secs (I think). If this doesn't work try disconnect/reconnect any components related to camera. Only other thing I can think of is the camera or related component has received ESD damage form static electricity (most likely a diode or small IC), maybe you can find a cheap bricked or damaged phone for spares, if camera module expensive, assuming it's the camera.
Appreciate the response. I think you're right. I've forced restarted and flashed it back to stock, and while the stock camera doesn't work, I found that if I use a third party app (such as OpenCamera) the rear camera works in Greyscale only (not in Color).

hummmm ... Yes, hard to say for sure boat seems like some hardware issue on the color camera, hope you can find a simple fix.
Appreciate the followup. After looking farther. I see there is a hairline crack in the camera. I bought a parts EssentialPH1 off of eBay for ~$50 and will give swapping them a shot.
