Okay, I should start off by saying I have put hours into researching this myself. I've found things that are similar to my problem, but nothing that I feel truly accomplishes what I'm trying to do.
Here's my situation.
I just recently purchased a Nexus 7. It is currently running Android version 4.2.2
I am new to android, have done jailbreaking and stuff with iPhone, have no experience when it comes to android.
Here's my issue.
I essentially bought this device for one reason - its ability to run emulators at full speed.
Obviously, touch screen controls do not cut it. So logically, I wanted to use my Wiimote to connect and use as a controller on the device. However, as I'm sure it has been well documented, the new android update has disabled the function.
Without a controller, I can't play emulators. Without being able to play emulators, I essentially have a $250 paper weight.
I've heard of there being a possibility of downgrading my Nexus 7 back to a version that would be compatible with wiimotes.
Every tutorial I've looked at seems daunting and confusing. I've tried doing them, but run into problems where there is a step that was supposed to be done prior to doing the tutorial and I have no idea where it's coming from or what to do.
Essentially that is where I stand. I need to be able to use my wiimote on my Nexus device. I'm begging somebody to guide me, show me the way to downgrade my Nexus device that will walk me through from steps A-Z.
As I said, I have honestly put a lot of time and effort into researching and attempting to fix this problem myself. Unfortunately, I just haven't found, or rather lack the knowledge to find exactly what I'm looking for.
I would be incredibly appreciative of any help I can get. If you need any more information from me about the situation, ask and I shall supply you with what you need.
Thanks in advance guys and gals.

I can help firstly I would like to tell you that there is a far easier option that downgrading which is using a wireless ps3 controller. Fully compatible with 4.2.2 but if you would like to downgrade you must first:
Get a working adb/fastboot folder.
Unlock your bootloader via fastboot. (Warning: this will factory reset your tablet so back up everything you can)
Then flash a stock google 4.1.2 image.
Or alternatively you could :
Unlock your bootloader via fastboot.
Flash a custom recovery.
Flash a custom 4.1.2 rom from the development threads.
All 3 will give the desired effect just bump this thread with what option you want and I will guide you all the way

Any idea if it's possible to use multiple PS3 controller? Specifically on the N64 emulator. I'd use PS3 but I'm not sure if I can get multiple ones to work on the N64 emulator.
Plus I gotta get the adapter.

The wireless ps3 controllers (official) work with sixaxis controller and can map up to 4 at once, n64oid should be able to map them all as input devices you shouldn't need an adapter as far as I am aware. There is a sixaxis testing app on the market, give it a try and see how you get on should all be sweet though.

2. Are MK802 and MK808 made by the same company? (Ie: is MK809 the successor of MK802). I find it very confusiong when people mention MK802-II, then I read somewhere that mentioned MK802-III, it kindda confuses me.

4. I was looking to buy one locally, and I checked craigslist. He mentioned about how he can help me 'jailbreak' and put crazy apps on it. I am confused with the term 'jailbreak'? Arent these stick 'jailbroken' to begin with at the first place? I thought these box/stick arent official products made by big companies anyways.. so it should be able to support all apps without trouble?

1. No, the one is not better than the other, but I would recommend the TV stick.
2. Yes the MK809 is the successor of the MK802(same company)
3. Yes it does.
4. Jailbroken is not the right therm for this, it's called "rooting", these sticks doesn't come pre-rooted, but there is an app called Aptoide which gives u the optionto download all the crazy apps U want! (for free) (just download in the Play store) DONT EVER PAY FOR THIS!
If u want more information, just mail me!
5. I would recommend the FlyMouse RC12

Thanks for answering my questions.
1. So why do people bother buying the 'box' if its more expensive and bulky?
2. Great.
3. Great What does XBMC really do anyways? Is it hard to get that setup on the stick?
4. Do I need to 'root' my stick in order to use Aptoide?
5. oo nice, I see it has a touchpad too. So its basically the same thing but WITH touchpad right?
Another question here: Why do some people flash their ROM/firmware? Does it give the stick more features or ability or something? Thanks

Root is just admin privileges like on a PC. You can pretty much run every app without Root(admin) access but some programs like BackUp apps that need admin access to save certain files... or editing system files.
You don't need to root for 98% of the stuff. Flashing firmwares/roms bring fixes, new features, updates, new stuff, etc... also optimize the system so it is more stable and faster. My MK808 tests at ~6000 normal and ~11000 with a custom Rom. Big difference.

Thanks again. Would you recommend buying the MK808 or MK809II now? I know going for the successor MK809II seems to be an ideal option, but I also see that MK808 is more popular and seem to get a lot of support. Whats your suggestion on this?
What are some good custom firmware/roms I should be looking into, if I plan to flash my device as well? Will it 'brick' my device easily?
Hey guys,
I just currently purchased a Nexus 4 android phone. The thing is that i've had an iphone for a very long time, the current one im using is iphone 4S which im going to get rid of for when this nexus 4. i never used an android before so if you guys can help me with the tips tricks or guides on how to use it.
I know on ios there is jailbreak and there is cydia and installous. Is it similar to android? do they have those things too? If so can someone instruct me on how to perform these tasks?
Thanks so much!
Unlock your boatloader and then root it. It'll give you more freedom and some great apps that require to have "root"
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
You can root an android device which is much like a jailbreak for an iOS device. However, most of the things you need a jailbreak for on iOS, can be done without rooting.
If you would like to know how to root your phone, take a look at the original development section, there are many guides and tutorials for this sort of thing
Take a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34769183
It contains pretty much everything you need to know in order to root (essentially the same as jailbreak) your device.
OP, welcome to Android!
Understand that any transition will be difficult. There are things that iOS can do, or do better than, Android. The reverse is also true. Be prepared for change and you'll be OK.

Hey IMHO, there is no need to "jailbreak" on android, as its not locked down like iphones. Especially the nexus 4. I would suggest you skip rooting and unlocking your bootloader* for now.
Since its your first android device, enjoy and learn it as is.
*thing about unlocking your bootloader, it resets your phone and you lose all your data, and customizations, so its something to consider doing at the onset. Not a big deal, your contacts and apps can be easily restored/ reinstalled.
Root is just giving yourself administrative permissions/ access to your own phone /os. Once you learn using your phone you can decide if there are any features you need access to that require root. But if you do this at the start and fiddle with your phone you will not know if its the phone acting up or something you caused.. You can accidently delete, move or change something that can potentially render your phone useless and unbootable. Also malicious apps would have access to do the same ( there arent many though, youll most likely kill it by your own hehe).

Welcome to android buddy!
As a mulit-platform kinda guy, it is simply great to have both OSs.
1. No, android doesn't not have anything like cydia or installous. (Btw, installous is gone. Hackulous abandoned the project)
2. On android the equivalent to jailbreak is call root, rooting and rooted.
3. How do you obtain root access? Head over to the correct android development thread and find "how to root xx device"
Follow the guide below on how to use the toolkit to root. (This toolkit is the same for the nexus 4. Don't worry about it even though its in the nexus 7 forum)
The toolkit is an easy way to gain root access similar to redsn0w or any popular jailbreak tether or untethered method.

so in terms, rooting means gaining full administration and what does bootloader do?

no. only viruses you'd get are if you sideload APKs from third-party websites/app markets, so don't sideload apks from random websites.
rooting: allows you to do changes outside of /sdcard/
bootloader: allows you to change recovery/bootloader/radio via fastboot mode.
recovery mode allows you to flash stuff to your phone (to obtain root, flash custom rom, flash custom kernel, flash custom recovery, flash radio, etc)
press thanks button to those who helped you

The only people who get viruses are stupid people who try to pirate apps or install apps from sources other than the official play store. Stick with Google Play and don't pirate crap and you have nothing to worry about
Also, pretty much everything that you needed to jailbreak an iphone to do, can be done on bone stock android without needing to root or unlock the bootloader.
No cydia since you can sideload apps.
I've seen a few apps like installous but none that I've stuck with.
Root is useful since it allows you to use apps like titanium backup, tasker and adaway.
The N4 should be an easy transition from 4S, it's certainly the first android phone I've used in 3yrs that I feel compares to its equivalent ios counterpart.
thanks all

That's where rooting comes to play. Titanium backup is the best but requires root.
And nand backup will backup the phone as is but you have to root it. Nand is in recover mode after you root.

I believe you can backup in stock recovery without root but I'm not 100% sure. For app backups, you can use carbon. No root required, but you'll have to download an accompanying app on your computer. You can do it all on device with root however.

There's no hardware keys to press on the OUYA to get it to boot into fastboot/recovery mode. They seem to think it is a tiny minority that they shouldn't have to care about, but I don't especially feel like bricking my device. I figured I'd try to drum up a little more support on XDA.

You just use a USB keyboard for the hardware keys.
Or download a Reboot into recovery app.
I'm not sure how Ouya could resolve this unless you are requesting a feature set on the next wave of hardware.
As far as I know there are already several custom ROMs and recovery solutions?

From what I understand, the USB keyboard can only be used to crash the startup into recovery using the sysreq key trick, but if it can't get past the init.d file, you're stuck in NVflash mode without the Secure Boot Key, essentially bricking your device. So now our only real hope is that OUYA changes their mind and gives us the SBK, or some sympathetic dev from their camp leaks them.
Ahhh. I didn't know it basically crashes your system.
Oddly the Ouya is the only device I don't want to hack. I don't see anything advantageous about flashing anything.
I'd be curious to know what Ouya says. They're box is hackable but I'm not sure if they would like people flashing to other ROMs that doesn't use their market.

you guys do know that some apps like quickboot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot&hl=en) can boot your Ouya into recovery mode? What I would like to see is getting the SBK like TopherBarnett suggested so that at least we can all be guaranteed our Ouya won't get bricked permanently because the android community is innately tinkerers when it comes to android softmods and customization.

How about bugfixes? How about a way to continue using the device three years down as a media player even after OUYA 2017 is out and the first revision of the console is increasingly abandoned? How about a way to back up your games and saves? Maybe even just a Link2SD type solution for the increasingly meager seeming 8GB internal storage?
Look, I'm in the same boat as you--the OUYA is the first Android device that I've owned where I haven't really felt a burning need to root and install a custom rom on it as soon as I could. Most of my Android devices haven't lasted a week before I had them rooted, using a custom recovery and a custom rom without the OEM crapware infested sludge slowing me down. The OUYA is the only one where I've actually used the defaults and said to myself, "Yeah, I could learn to really like this..."
Only there are some outstanding bugs that simply don't seem to be a priority and aren't getting fixed. The OUYA team has demonstrated an unwillingness to openness and an inability to communicate to its users. In the past whenever I had these types of issues, it was the community which solved most of my issues, long after the manufacturer had moved on to seek new dollars. The only reason I bought the OUYA was because of the promised openness of the console and the ability to use it with custom firmwares.
So, despite being mostly happy with my purchase I still want the promised openness that I bought the OUYA for in the first place, even if I do like the current looks of the software and want to stay as stock as possible. Otherwise there will be many who like myself will simply not bother with the next iteration of the console and no one will need to worry about what the 2017 edition OUYA looks like because there won't be one.
--bornagainpenguin
I agree but I feel this article is being a little too harsh. Ouya people aren't stupid. They know whats up with the hardcore guys like us. It's not even been out a month (July 4th or something). I'm sure they are balls to the wall with getting devs on board and bug fixes and just making the thing run properly for the 95% of people who use it the way it was intended.
Once they get their crap together and things start to begin flowing naturally and they find a little free time, they might think up something.
Has anyone tried Rom Manager or anything? There has to be some way to Reboot into Recovery other then a hardware solution.
But I just don't get it. There IS a way to hack this thing... but people are complaining that it's a little dicey. Try hacking a Xbox by taking the whole thing apart and flashing a firmware to the disc drive which requires a special PC adapter. BrickCentral if something were to go wrong. Killing your device is a taken risk when you do anything done here.
I really can't see Ouya doing anything about this. If they go out of their way to make it easy to run stock android, then it might turn Ouya devs off. Perhaps once the unit is EOL, they'll provide a final rom with some extra recovery options.

There are a number of ways to boot into recovery: adb, third party apps like Quick Boot, terminal emulators. But there is currently no way to do it through hardware.
Essentially, we're missing the equivalent of "volume up+power" most of us are familiar with from rooting other devices. This makes soft bricks pretty much the same as hard bricks. And that's the problem.

Like Oscar_david pointed out... these are all software solutions to a hardware problem....
IF, for example, you flash an improper kernel or something goes haywire enough to cause it not to boot far enough in to atleast enable adb... you have a softbrick that can NOT be fixed by any software solution.
Sadly the real solution is one we probably will never get... and that's via unlocked bootloader or the keys so we can flash from bootrom recovery
It's mad that the OUYA guys omitted a hardware key from their design - I can't think of any other Android arm SoC based mini computer that doesn't have a pin hole button to enter recovery. All the mini stick computers like the mk802 and Google TV boxes like Pivos have this feature...
That's the thing--I could have bought a Pivos, but didn't because I wanted to have the best of both worlds and play games as well as videos. I thought the OUYA would offer that to me, but the longer it takes to fix things the less hopeful I become.

Hello everyone.
I will be getting this device soon and I am excited. About 2-3 years ago I used to help some devs build custom ROMS for a ZTE mobile, and I would like to contribute on this tablet now. Back in the day - things were very simple but I am sure everything has changed since then.
So my questions are - what tools do we have? What limitations does Samsung put in place? What tools do we need?
Let's get some development going guys? Would be nice to get the basics out the way so we can start to get "real".

Root is possible now. Some models without tripping knox.
Recovery is out as well, works fine for me but some still have issues.
If you can contribute to sorting that IMHO it would be a good step towards custom roms and kernels.

I second that. I tried a couple wifi based ones and they are very laggy. I need to learn how to do it with my wife's Surface Pro 2. I'm sure that is flawless.

It's doable, but I'm not too sure on the precision. I know some people have used a remote connection app to use devices as graphics tabs. IMO it's not of major importance yet, and could probably be done pretty easily once we have the basics in place better.
If root is good without tripping Knox - that would be one thing sorted. I'll take a look into recovery when my device comes.
Due to the recent price drop for the MCM there has been some renewed interest on fb in the MCM. It took many hours to collect the files and figure out how to get it going right so to save others some time I put an instruction PDF together along with all the files you need.
It's located in a public google drive folder located at:

Thnx Phoenix, yes i bought one today (wednesday delivery) and was surfing around clipping and downloading stuff. about the MOJO. This looks easy enough to use. Thank you for your work already done !
Still in doubt if i want android TV installed or CM as i bought also a android TV remote with it (not even sure if these work but i costs only $4). Love the shields laucher/desktop.
Got one also start play with it now .....look cool and fast.
thanks a lot OP. very helpful.
Excellent work and thanks, @Phoenix4848! Don't forget that there are alternative methods of flashing, and also other ROMs out there. I recommend setting up Fastboot just as a safety net; it can save your bacon if something goes wrong with Flashify. This XDA section is a gold mine of info on the MOJO, but you don't need that link, do you?

Thank you for the feedback. Yes I want to install Remix OS on a different mojo; I won't attempt that until I have Fastboot up.
I created the folder/link for a kodi box support group on fb. The procedure is simple enough for the average user and it's important mojo owners get rooted and SuperSU installed - there is a piece of ransomware that is targeting Android 4 devices. CM 12.1 is stable and user friendly - and it's android 5.1 which will run the newer versions of Kodi.
Adding it here was an afterthought.

Good thought, even if it was after. You don't need fastboot to install RemixOS, or any other one, but if your MOJO is soft-bricked and you can't get into TWRP recovery you can fastboot boot the recovery and flash from that. You can also fastboot flash the recovery. And BTW you do not necessarily need MoDaCo's fastboot, if you're set up for other Droids like I was you can use your existing fastboot setup. I find it easiest to do from Linux.
Yes, I like the Lollipop ROMs myself, a huge advance over KitKat (IMHO they shouldn't have bothered to release KK). And Marshmallow is even better, much to my amazement. I wish I had the extra time to learn to port ROMs myself, there'd be a MM ROM out for the MOJO about now!
Fastboot set up?

Not a clue. But here's a couple things to try:
1) Call or e-mail Amazon tech support
2) Try a different ROM on the MOJO
Remix maybe?

Probably not a problem with the Mad Catz device probably a problem with the OS. Stock is Android 4.2, CM doesn't seem to work with every player. Remix works with more players but I don't know if it will work with Prime. I'll try later.

It really is isn't it? Once you get over the hurdle of flashing a decent ROM, you're set. Fantastic little gadget. I was very lucky to get it for £60 here in the UK. I don't think I've ever had emulation play so well on anything before.
thank you ...for reply and advice now I will try to flash the new ROM I have to read more instruction.... again thanks

I'm a Prime member but it'll be a couple weeks before I get a real chance to fiddle with it, so if nothing more comes up to prevent it, maybe I'll try it on CM12.1 then. Too many irons in the fire now...
Last year, there was a workaround to play Prime videos via the Dolphin Browser with flash activated. However, ever since Amazon Prime Video dropped Flash support, it's no longer working.
Prime was the reason I bought my first MOJO, ended up selling it when the the workaround stopped working. As of now, I use the (second) MOJO for Kodi and the Youtube App only.
It's truly a shame we can't use it for a service we pay for, especially when they claim on their website that all android systems (>4.0) are supported.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS since the stock meets my needs for now(minus Prime Video). But please do let us know if it works on the custom ROM you try.

I just got Amazon Video working on the Remix ROM. No tricks, it just works.
Additional note Xposed also works on that ROM. And Paragon should offer NTFS support. I like Remix - next step get a HDD working.
