[Q] Should i get the Tab 7.7....or wait for the nexus tablet?

I need your opinions, should i get the Tab 7.7? or wait for the nexus tablet? I am liking the size (around 7) and the reviews of the 7.7 are all good. what do u think?

Well the GPS is topnoch, I havent had any problems with celldata or wifi, overall HC
isent that bad. In all I got to say the hardware kicks ass on stock HC and if ICS is an improvement thats a big extra!
Yup I like the 7.7, nice unit.

the nexus tablet is likely to be in the 200-250 range, while the 7.7 is around 500...the biggest reason to get the 7.7 is the super amoled plus screen. if you don't care about the screen quality, i would go with the google tablet.

I'm on the fence as well. Heard rumors that the Nexus won't have 3G. I'll gladly get a Galaxy Tab then.
Can't tell for sure until the Nexus is officially unveiled.

Even of the nexus hasn't got 3g what it will do is quickly drive down android tablet costs. If Google push a nexus device (nexus phones are pushed as being the pinnacle of Android design) for 200 then Samsung and everyone else will have difficulty keeping a 100%+ premium over it.

I would wait for Android tablets to catch up with the iPad3 dpi before buying, which I hope will begin to happen with the next generation of premium Android tablets.

I am married to SAMOLED+, a wacom digitizer, and screen casting capabilities. So far the only device to satisfy all three has been the samsung galaxy note. But this screen is just SO much larger, it was worth the extra real estate. This is the first really operable digital sketchpad, i'd say over the ipad(screen quality) and the gNote(size). It is imperfect only in thst it lacks a wacom digitizer in my opinion.

Ive thought about the micro sd and don't see it as an issue as long as there is an sd card/usb host adapter, then on long journeys we can still have movies etc on that

What would the nexus at $200 have to offer asside from Android 5? I dont think it would be a supperior tab to the current 7.7 and the possible lack of 3g it would mean you would have to carry 2 devices. Until no more 3g+wife tabs are released i will never consider anything else less. Just my 2 cents

How is the 7.7 a "dead platform"? There will be an ICS update some time this summer, and the hardware will be superior to the Nexus in most ways.

I own a galaxy nexus and the user experience blows honeycomb out of the water. The software experience could be enough to sway a purchase. You don't need to Carry two tabs either lol. Can leave one at home for home media purposes or something. One for desk at work, etc... or just buy it and evaluate two, sell one of em later.

At a supposed price of $200 i doubt it will be a superior item, i understand the Nexus is a top line (Nexus phones) i dont see at this price what it can try and compete with. The Kindle? Maybe. The Ipad, not in a million years.

The leaked specs for the Nexus 7 look decent enough and handily seem to wipe the floor with the kindle fire. I doubt i'll just give up this beautiful 7.7 without evaluating things anyways. And who mentioned an iPad? I could give 2 ****es about the iPad ;p

Well now that the specs are out, I'm still happy with my last week purchase of the GT 7.7. I can increase storage and have a better screen. Only outspecced by BT 4 on the Nexus 7, if it has BT 4.
Plus I have to say comparing the Exynos of the GT 7.7 to the Tegra3 of the Transformer Prime, it feels snappier than the Prime, and that is on 3.2 HC! Cant wait for ICS (or hopefully much rather JB!) on it.
Haven't tried gaming on th GT 7.7 though.

Maybe it is just in the videos I've seen but does the screen rotate to landscape mode or is it stuck in portrait?

Here's my take on the two tablets.
1. Memory
I think the lack of micro SD slot on the Nexus is a big disadvantage compared to the Sammy 7.7. You can pick up 64gb micro SD cards now for $60-80. Depending on your main uses, 16gb (or worse still 8gb) can be very limiting if you throw on some music and some 720p videos, let alone games.
I have the HDMI dongle for the Sammy and can output 1080p to a TV which is great when traveling.
2. Camera
The Nexus also appears to miss out on a rear-facing camera (not a big deal imo but another point of difference).
3. Battery
Samsung battery appears to be almost 18% bigger (5100mah v 4325mah).
4. Form factor
The form factor of the Nexus would seem to be not quite as slick as the 7.7:
Nexus 7: 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm
Samsung 7.7: 196.7 x 133 x 7.9 mm
Weight appears to be same (or thereabouts).
With a smaller screen and less features, I would have thought that the Nexus could have been a bit trimmer.
5. Software
On the other hand we probably won't see Jelly Bean on the Samsung for another year, if at all.
Jelly Bean supposedly has Project Butter enhancements to make the OS smoother and slicker, however given the performance of the S2 on ICS I think I'd be relatively happy with ICS on the 7.7.
Overall I don't really see the need for a quad core processor when the dual core is still perfectly capable. I'm not prepared to compromise on the above factors for the processor alone, the benefits of which are debatable given how much better the Exynos architecture seems to be.

I forgot to add that whilst I wouldn't give up my 7.7, the introduction of the Nexus 7 can only be a good thing as it will raise awareness of Android tablets and lower the barrier to entry, ie. cost, effectively bringing Android to the masses by a respected vendor.
More competition = better products.

I pre ordered a nexus 7 but now thinking of cancelling

I ordered it mostly just because jellybean looks so awesome i had to have it. But now that the benchmarks have been released along with the full specs, im actually now somewhat convinced it is inferior to my ics running n7000, or at the least equal. I ran the gl 2.1 benchmark that anandtech ran and my stock (not overclocked ) note actually scored higher in all 4 benchmarks than the "12 core" tegra 3. So besides battery life and jellybean, im pretty meh at this point. Anyone else have similar feelings? Or am i really missing something?

For the price point; the Nexus 7 is a nice investment. The specs are solid. If you have disposable income it's hard not to throw $200 at the 7 and at the very least make it a part of your coffee table.
I'm in the boat that I will upgrade my Note to the Note 2 as no doubt the spec leap will be much bigger than the Nexus 7.

Dude the price is low for that 7"
So it worth it x2 each dollar, if you r looking an upgrade just wait the note 2 or other device

I'm with you in debating on it OP.
I've yet to put an order in as the Note 2 looks rather promising, however watching media on the 7" display would be lovely, and Tegra 3 aught to have enough power to handle S/W decoding of 10bit 720p, but I've also read that the S3 seems to handle it fine, and if the Note 2 will be a 'larger S3' then I might as well save the money and wait.
It's a tough decision, since it's realistically the best 7" tablet to come out yet.

Haha benchmarks, it'll handle whatever you throw at it and with custom roms on it will be even better...stop worrying about benchmarks they really don't mean **** on phones and tablets.

What is the point of buying it if you are basing that decision on purely benchmarks and OS version?
Are you actually going to make use of the extra screen space compared to the note?
If yes buy it, if not dont, simple

The Nexus 7" looks amazing for the price. The only downside is the lack of SD card slot.
I'm not sure if they left it out for cost reasons or to avoid annoying the other manufacturers.
I won't personally be getting one as I'm holding off buying a tablet until Win 8. You just know someone will bring out a device that dual boots in to win8 and android.

About a month ago I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 (7") for my Fiance as she wanted something like a kindle but that did a bit more. 16 Gb was £200 if the Nexus Tab has been out for £150 with better spec and newer OS I would have thought that was a great buy if you want a 7" tab.
I dont get this comparing tabs and phones. Its like comparing apples and oranges. Both fruits but not the same thing.

Except that the galaxy note is a phablet, a hybrid device. Thus the issue here.
To the person who said I only used benchmarks, not exactly. I was just saying that the 1.4ghz dualcore exynos with mali400 seems to still be a top dog and even beats/equals the "12core" tegra 3. Pretty impressive.
I do know the nexus 7 is a great device for $200. It doesn't have everything a galaxy note has like mhl, 5ghz wifi or sdslot but in terms of raw performance, screen resolution the $249 version is equal to my 16gb GT-N7000. No doubt it is an impressive device for the price. I found a deal on mine at Jr.com for $222 shipped 16GB version but that pre-order quickly sold out.
Even still I hesitate. It will probably only be a couple of months before the devs make a good port of jellybean for our note. Having a pure google device however does appeal to me. I'm still torn. Luckily it wont ship for another 10 days so I have all that time to decide.

That is the Galaxy Nexus phone, not the Nexus 7 tablet. Personally, the Galaxy Note eliminates the need of a tablet for me.

It's 7 inches. Not even 2 full inches of difference between the Note and Nexus. And you can put the Note in your pocket and take it everywhere with you. And since Nexus 7 does not use full tablet UI - it's basically "a bigger note" ( exaggeration for purpose of the thread ).
It all depends on your needs though. I really prefer to have just 1 device that i can carry everywhere, always. Tablets, even 7" are not that mobile despite all the marketing.

If its any help i currently take my note with me everywherr daily. I use my Galaxy Tab 10.1 for browsing, gaming and watching movies (in bed). I use the Galaxy Tab 2 for reading and general messing about.
I admit 1 person doesnt need all 3 in their life but I do prefer web browsing at home on either of the tabs as I find it better with the bigger screens and the same for reading and movie watching whilst at home.

There won't be any tablet ui in jellybean, it's gonna be universal like the galaxy nexus looks. Jellybean fully merges the tablet and phone ui together 100%. Any tablet that will support jellybean will look like the nexus 7 ui, no more tablet look.

That's not true. In another thread I read someone has already hacked the Nexus 7 to give it a tablet ui.

The Note is also a phone and has 3G... and 2 good cameras.
The Nexus 7 is a nice tablet (low end price with good specs) but it cant be the only device to take, a good companion to a phone maybe.

Is the tab 10.1 still a good choice today?

How are you?
So, I'm thinking about buying a tablet.
My main goal is to have a biggest, more comfortable device for web browsing to complement my galaxy nexus.
I was thinking about a nexus 7, but being too close on size to my nexus, made me consider a 10 inch model.
I liked the fact that the nexus 7 is updated by Google and runs stock android, but there seems to be a good community of support for Samsung tabs, and with ROMs like cm9 and cm10, that might not be the deal breaker.
I also looked at the Acer a700, because of its screen. The high res is really appealing, but the price is around 400.
I can get a sweet deal on a tab 10.1, for 200 Euros. So, is it a good bet today?

The reason I'm interested in the tab 10.1 is mainly the price.
At this time I don't know if I would use a tablet all that much.
At first I'm guessing I would just use it in the couch to do some web browsing.
When I go out, I usually just take my nexus in my pocket and it pretty much covers my on the go needs.
If I have a tablet, I might take out out sometimes, but my fear is not using it enough. That's why I am not thinking about a tf700 or iPad 3. I just think I would not use them enough and would probably feel sorry for spending 600 on a device to sit on the shelf...
Anyway, does the tab 10.1 still holds it's own against those tegra 3 tablets?
How is web browsing with the screen's low PPI?

I got my wife a Tab 10.1 on clearance ($250) a couple of months ago. I bought my Nexus 7 at the same time. The only time there's a difference between us performance-wise is 3d gaming. All other times there's no real difference.
EDIT: She's very happy with the device for web browsing.

A modded 10.1 with performance tweaks is a joy to use. Battery life is sick @ 7000mah too. I have one for myself and one for the wife and they're wonderful. The kernel I'm running is OC'd to 1.4GHz and GPU @ 400 so while it's still not a match for newer devices, 3d games are still running nicely. A build.prop tweak for increasing buffer size will make web browsing even more enjoyable and most custom roms account for that, I've found.
In portrait mode the tab is still a bit wide...if you have long thumbs you shouldn't have any issues. If you were cursed with bitty digits stick with landscape and key the way you normally would.

I don't know anything about the Tegra 3 devices but I can tell you about my experience with the GT7500 . The main reason I got it was for Web browsing and watching video content on my daily commute. I really like using using this device and I may be imagining it but the display seems crisper since ICS updated. If you can get one really cheap I say buy it

I think it is an option, is fast, convenient and runs android. The only think i guess should be reconsidered, is the price since with the introduction of the Kindle Fire HD, its price is now prohibitive.

If you can get it for under 250, I would think so. If you're a spec freak, you might prefer a quad core but you'll pay a lot more for a ten incher.
It depends on what you plan on doing on the tablet.

Yes, I can get it under 250 and I just plan on using it for web browsing, tapatalk, some note taking, videos... no gaming. Just maybe the occasional angry birds type of game.

ASUS is a better choice..bang for the buck.
Google Nexus is pretty sweet also.

I know it is not state of the art, but all I want is a tablet to web browse on the couch or on the coffee shop.
I am also thinking about an original Motorola xoom. It is almost the same specs as the tab 10.1, but it runs stock android without the need for custom ROMs.
If I get any of the two cheap enough, maybe I could resell them in a couple of months and then pick a better 2013 tablet without much loss.
And until then I could have a nice tablet to browse...
Thoughts?
Does a 1920x1200 screen make a huge difference in browsing experience? Is it worth twice the money?

Argos have been knocking them out at "half price" in the UK. Mainly 3G models left for home delivery. Likely to be as rare as hens teeth in store. I've ordered a 16GB 3G model for £250 (it's being delivered tomorrow ). Seems like good value to me.

I can tell you that prior to the ICS update, I was very unhappy with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It was frustratingly slow, and using it was not a pleasant experience. Then I bought a Nexus 7 and totally fell in love with it. I did end up tweaking it with Nova launcher, but did not root it. After the ICS update I still wasn't happy with the performance of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Then I added Nova launcher and the same tweaks as for the Nexus 7. Did not root the Galaxy tablet either. And the performance seems to have improved so I am no longer complaining. However, I have to say that I still rarely use the 10" tablet. For me the 7" form factor and the higher pixel density works better. Or the weight. The 10" tablet never leaves the house, and rarely leaves the bedroom. The 7" tablet goes everywhere. I would recommend giving some thought to what size works for you best. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. The 10" tablet should be better at note taking. I've seen lots of comments that the 10" should be better for videos and web browsing, but that hasn't been my experience. The Nexus 7 seems to have more apps available for it. For example, Flipboard is available for the Nexus 7, but not for the Galaxy tab. (It works fine on the Galaxy tablet, you just can't get the apk from the Google Play store.) If I had $250 to spend and did not have either tablet, I would either buy the Nexus 7, or save up for a better 10" tablet. I don't think the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 is worth $250, not when you can get a tablet that works better for $199.

For the usage you describe either the galaxy tab 10.1 or the xyboard would suffice (the later having microSD expandability). If the Asus Transformer TF300 is in the same price range the it is worthy of a look too (tegra 3), though I'm not sure what the status of development is for that device.
It has taken a long time for development to get to the point that it has for the galaxy tab 10.1 due to how long Samsung decided to wait to release ICS. CM9 development is far along with CM10 still needing work. There are some great devs here as in other device forums.
As for screen resolution one would expect that despite the color accuracy issues of the nexus 7's screen the higher pixel density of that panel would render text better and in my comparison between the two (I own both) that is the case so I would expect no different from a 1080p screen on a 10-inch form factor. That said the 10.1 does have a very nice panel and it's adequate for the use you describe.
Its great that you're doing the research so that you enter into your purchase eyes wide open. Know that you're buying into an aging platform and make sure you can live with the tradeoffs that come with that in order to get the lower price you're looking for.

In regard to the nexus 7, it is a device that is also on my mind. Mainly because as I said, I love my nexus phone and the whole nexus experience of stock android and updates from Google.
Does who own both, how is the web browsing on the 7? Does the higher PPI makes up for the smaller screen?
How is using nexus 7 vs a smartphone like the galaxy nexus? Very different? Or is it a close experience?

i would like to know some of your opinions if you have both the Galaxy Note and also a Nexus 7
i have had my note for almost a year now - generally all pretty good
but for some things i am thinking about the nexus 7
maybe for a bigger ebook reader - kindle / BBC news / Flipboard etc- i have a lot of books which would benefit perhaps on a bigger screen
Tegra 3 - one of the reasons why i would like the nexus 7 - some games can only be played on a tegra 3 device - i am not a really big game player but sometimes would like to play Horn, Dark meadow and the other tegra 3 only games which cannot be played on the Note
general web browsing / ocassional movie watching when out and about would be nice on a bigger screen
i live in europe so google voice is not available at this time - so i wont really use it for any phone calls - maybe skype but ocassionally
i am trying to establish how much of a use it will get in order to see if its worth to purchase it..
please share your useages and experiences with owning both

Actually I have both items, G Note and Nexus 7
I bought the Nexus 7 two months ago, and the Gx Note last week.
Since I bought the Note, I've never used again the Nexus 7 (I'm selling it)
I've downloaded some Tegra Only games and only tried them for a while and never played again.
The Nexus has a bit bigger screen than Note, it is more fast and the touch responsiveness is better, but I prefer to have a decent "All In One" device like the Note (with a good replaceable battery and micro SD slot whith tons of films in it) than having to carry with another device only for a "little more of screen"

I have both too. But I find the Note to be slightly better for everyday use. It's decent sized and runs games (that I play) perfectly fine. Screen is a bit small (as opposed to the 7) for web browsing, but that's something I can live with. On the other hand, the nexus 7 screen is right in the middle of the Note and a 10" tablet. For certain apps, if I run the phone version on the 7, the UI's too big (big buttons, big text); but if I run the tablet version of the app, texts are often too small to read on the 7 inch and some buttons are harder to press as they've been resized to fit the 7" screen. Sorry for my english but I think you get my point.

Now that we have jelly bean running on our exynos powered phones, the whole performance argument doesn't fly. Pretty sure the note outperforms anything with a tegra 3, despite having half as many cores. Exynos ftw!
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my Galaxy Note.

I have the note and 2 nexus 7 had 2 more but sold them, the nexus is much faster (all are running paranoid android 2.5 ROMs if I were going to read , check emails , look up something on the internet it would be no question the nexus 7, if I wanted something small / more portable to check something quick then the note is better plus if need some to make phone calls without being linked to another device ie. Tablet talk then obviously the note is your choice, even though I don't use the note as a phone anymore I would never sell it

I have a Nexus 7 and a GN. The Nexus is lightning fast, and a real pleasure for games or as a e-reader. I use both devices every day, and I love both.
I use my Nexus for navigation in my car (with car mount). The GN sits in my console, connected to BT for calls.
The one thing I do find is that the Nexus connects to GPS faster, and the nav app (Waze) seems snappier.

Whilst I do love the Nexus 7, as it is an amazingly capable tablet for a very respectable price, there is very little point in any 7" tablet in my opinion so long as you own any of the newer Android devices that often employ a 4.5+ inch display and especially if you own a phone/tablet hybrid such as the Galaxy Note. In my personal opinion, a tablet should be around the 10" mark like the iPad. It is just a nice size for greater productivity, whilst still maintaining greater portability than a laptop.

My Note is running the leaked 4.1.1 rom and the nexus the stock 4.1.2 from google and the nexus is a lot faster than the Note

Same here - have both and am pleased with both. Use the Nexus 7 more for movies and books.

a lot of good points have been made here regarding speed of the nexus, size and usages what you have
from what i have evaluated certain tasks are better suited on the nexus and other tasks are more geared towards the note..due to its size etc
lots of things to think about here....

I have Note and tried nexus. Just doesn't feel big enough and had other limitations that didn't help. My Note and Transformer prime work a lot better as a combo for me.

I have a Galaxy Note and a Nexus 7. Although its a nice device i hardly use my nexus 7 as my Note can do everything it can (except the tegra3 specific games) but theyre not really that good tbh. Nexus 7 with Jelly Bean was much smoother but i have since installed super nexus rom on my note and theyre pretty much the same now.

My Nexus is mostly a home device for me until I get my hands on the 3g version then i will bring it out and will be doing mostly my surfing and emails with it. My Gnote is mostly just phone calls and occasional quick surfing, whatsapp, Facebook, etc.
I reckon a tablet and phone have their own specific uses and each supplement the cons of the other. Everyone should have both!

I was also thinking about buying a Nexus 7 mainly for reading ebooks but I am unsure about the display quality - isn't the notes super amoled far superior?

I have both aswell and happy with both of them. One would expect the screen quality of Gnote to be better due to the super amoled tech it uses but in reality it have black clipping issues which make watching low quality videos a problem.

I too have both. I love everything about the Note (previous phones were Nexus One followed by Nexus S) except what it's missing... the Nexus experience. The Nexus 7 reminded me what I'm missing. My wife inherited my Nexus S and I still envy her smooth clean experience with a phone that's 2 years old. She has JB with Google Now and all the goodies... I sit here with a beautiful 5.3" screen, and incredibly powerful hand held computer, but stuck on ICS. When will we get JB on the Note (Samsung is in no hurry.They want to sell new phones)? I considered rooting and installing a rom, but after following this forum since I purchased my Nexus One, I decided to stay stock. Too many problems.
After much thought I've decided to sell my Note and will pre-order the Nexus 4 as soon as it hits the Play Store. I will never buy a phone or tablet again without it being pure Google.

Blacks are a lot blacker with the note but I was surprised that the nexus looks much sharper and detailed. Maybe is my lame screen protector not sure.

[Q] Nexus 10 or Galaxy Note 10.1

Hello everyone.
I'm kind of a newbie here.
I joined a long time ago when I had and Advent Vega tab however I have never posted before.
I have the cash in my pocket for a 10" tablet and was looking at either the Galaxy Note 10.1 or the Asus Transformer Infinity.
I managed to finally make my mind up and go for the Note 10.1 and then Google decided to throw a spanner in the works with the Nexus 10!
So, which do I go for??

Nexus 10
the Nexus ten is better in all aspects. the screen is by far better. it has an higher resolution and pixel density than the ipad 3

MarcusSi15: except UI, multi tasking, storage, and stylus support.
nexus runs a phone/phablet UI while the note has a proper tablet UI.
the note has the ability to have certain apps running in the foreground at the same time.
the note also has support for sdxc cards.
and while the nexus can only work with a capacitive stylus, the note comes with a Wacom stylus which is way more accurate.

nexus 10 by far with its screen depth amazing!!!

Easy, buy the nexus. The note 10.1 has a horrible screen on it. My og galaxy tab 10.1 has a better looking screen than the note tablet.

do youself a favor DONT buy the note 10.1. Im using it now but will return it to buy the nexus 10. screen is bad comparing to nexus 10. software lags...

The Note 10.1 is a great tablet, the screen resolution isnt the highest, but it still looks good. If you in to drawing or writing the Note is the choice, its also quad so gaming is amazing as well, its also does multitasking like a champ.
The Nexus is a good looking tablet too, it depends what you find most appealing, A higher res screen with up to date software, or a specialized tablet that also handles any other task better than most tabs out.
The S-pen is great I want a N10 but dont know if i can give up the S-pen.

Thanks for the replies everyone and as I expected, the opinion is divided.
I see it like this:
The obvious Pro points for the Nexus 10 are the amazing screen, the updated software (including the lack of Touchwiz), Google's obvious work on it and the price.
However the big negative for me is no SD Card support.
The Pros for the Note are the S-Pen, the Quad Core Processor, expandable memory & multi-tasking, I'm also assuming that there will be a software update at some point too.
The negatives are the screen (a lot lower resolution but still ok) & touchwiz (however that can be changed with a different ROM).
Both are built by Samsung and from what I have seen, in grey they don't look that much different!
I currently have an S3 and love it so I think I way be swaying towards the Note!!

Gnote vs nexus 10= n10
To be truthful its like comparing older vs newer
1. Processor: gnote's quad core is nowhere as fast as n10's a15 is next generation arm soc with Mali t604
2. UI: touchwiz is an abomination of common sense, its bloated, ugly, inefficient compared to stock Ui
3. Updates: Samsung is the worst OEM when it comes to update, I am running jb on my gtab 10.1 yet Samsung thinks it does not deserve update, ludicrous! But nexus devices are always first on update
4. Community support: nexus devices are more favored by devs since sources are available and thus more custom ROM and overall hacking
5. Display: since it beats apple, no point talking about it
6. Ram: gnote=1gb, n10= 2gb
7. Unless u want stylus ( which is barely useful), sdcard ( I think 32gb is reasonably priced and should be enough for majority) I think nexus 10 takes the win in every comparison possible
U might enjoy your s3, but why would you get less for you money when there's option for more?

nah the dual core processor in the Nexus 10 outperforms that quad core processor in the Note 10.1. it's even better than the snapdragon S4 pro in the nexus 4... (wonder why a dual core is more powerful? google it...)
also price is a big factor here. the note 10.1 is 100$ more.. lol The real pros of the Note is the SD slot and the pen.the nexus 10 is better in every other aspect.
But hey, it's your money, your call.

I wanted to give my feedback on the matter. I have had the Transformer prime and infinity, have had the Nexus 7 and currently have a SGS 7.7.
The reason I no longer have Asus's Tegra 3 line is that all of them have had slow internal storage which caused crashing problems. I considered the Note 10.1 before deciding to get the Galaxy Tab 7.7. The main reason I didn't get the note was that I felt it was overpriced (given I didn't care for wacom support). With the Nexus 10's release, I believe that even more strongly. At $400 for a 16gb Note 10.1, its a feasable option because expandable memory matters.
Nexus 10 vs Note
Pros:
Processor: The Nexus 10 has Samsung's next generation processor which is faster than the Note 10.1's.
Screen: It has a higher resolution, higher technology screen.
Nexus program: It will stay updated to the newest software for longer (and with effectively no wait time). It will have a larger development community.
Cons:
Nexus program: It lacks a micro sd card reader so memory is limited to 16/32gb.
Non-Note: It lacks wacom stylus support. Samsung's Note software streamlines multitasking split screen.

Some interesting points.
1. When you say the CPU is nowhere near as fast, will it really be that noticeable bearing in mind one is dual core and the other is quad?
2. RAM on the note is 2gb isn't it?
3. Do the current Note 10.1 ROM's remove Touchwiz (or at least the useless crap out of it)?
4. I agree with the updates comment, my S3 is unbranded and I received JB after most of the Service Providers!
5. The Note is currently £399 in the UK with £50 cashback from Samsung (Making it £349). Not a bad price really?
Oh and completely off of the subject, I have just seen your location as New York. Stay Safe mate.

If you write a lot go with Note 10.1 (handwrite on lectures, at work, taking notes, scribbling, drawing etc.) - nothing can match the Wacom stylus, nothing. If not - Nexus 10.

Ad. 1. They should be similar in practise, though Nexus 10 will probably be better optimised being Jelly Bean and Nexus. Nexus 10 has much more powerful GPU but it is needed for so many pixels.
AD. 2. Yes, 2GB. Keep in mind Nexus 10 will probably have more memory for GPU so it will be more like 1.5GB in reality - but it should be more than enough.
Ad. 3. Touchwiz is quite nice on Note 10.1. I wouldn't want it removed. But yes, there are ROMs without it.

I came to work thus morning with the cash in my pocket to get the note but now I'm not sure!
I don't do a lot of writing or drawing but I like the option of having it there if I want to.
I also like all of the obvious plus points of the nexus; updates, processor, price!!
