Solution to overheating/random reboots?

Hey, so I think many of you guys have random reboots, I have a few a week and sometimes my phone restarts to the lock screen and shuts off again and i have to let it cool down before i do anything.
So i read the SE forum and some dude said that set cpu will help with this problem. So Im wondering if any of you have tried this and it has worked...
also the custom roms, do they also help in this case? I know some are undervolted/overclocked.
doesn't overclocking make it worse or something?
can someone explain...
also someone said it has to do with the signal...i get full signal and it still reboots/shuts off.
i think it has to do with heat and that's about it.
This happens when you have some bad welds on ur phone motherboard. I read few articles from chinese tech sites abt this issue. My 1st x10 acts like urs, nothing could change it but buy a new one.

I am afraid that is true.
It sounds like a motherboard issue.
If you are out of warranty and/or you can't get a new phone,
try installing SetCPU and set it up according to the settings on my signature.
It could help a little, since the CPU will be working in lower frequencies.
Good luck!
Underclock using a custom kernel like FreeKernel Mod 3.60 & using Set CPU/Master CPU set lowest frquency to 128 MHz, while limiting the max frequency below 998 MHz to see if you can get heat under control...
You will take some hit on performance.
Also, try to keep the phone in as much air as possible, use without case & keep out of packet as far as possible etc...
Nothing too useful, that's about it.

The Ultimate Nexus 4

Hey Nexus fans,
I'm getting a Nexus 4 in about 4 weeks and it's going to be a beast compared to my current phone the Xperia Play.
I'm setting up this thread to allow us to post what's the best set up for our Nexus 4.
Categories:
- Screen protectors
- Full body sheilds (E.g Zagg Maximum)
- Case
- Kernel
- ROM
- Maximum and minimum frequencies
- Safe under voltting frequencies
- Best wireless charging accessories
- Best headphones
- Best mods (E.g 20mbs camera mod)
- Whatever else you can think of to make our Nexus 4 a bullet proof tank!
Also I have a few questions.
1. Is the thermal throttling that bad?
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how awesome is this device.
AW: The Ultimate Nexus 4
it all comes down to preference so this thread seems a little pointless
atm im using unofficial aokp pub and harsh kernel
i dont like screen protectors or cases so i just use a pouch although i do have a crack in the glass already i hide it with a red carbon foil thingy from atfolix though so it looks still cool

Hi,
Wow, the best thread with all the questions about "what is the best *******" in one thread... An "all in one" "what is the best kernel, rom, mods, CPU settings, case,etc..."
Here what I think: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179942
Is that the search function is broken

Space efficiency - all the commonly asked questions in one thread .......
The ultimate N4 for me would most probably not be anywhere near the ultimate for you.
It's a very personal thing.

It might not be the ultimate for me but it might be for 100 other people! That's why you should just post it anyway because people might like your choice in case or ROM but not your kernel so they can customize what set up you have.
You know this thread is going to be shut soon, right? 'Best' threads are subjective, as above, so they are not allowed on here...
Thread closed. Comparing ROMs and kernels is pointless.

Good to see Z2 users here. The Indian batch also have some gaps and off center camera lens but these don't effect the device. I have tested waterproofing and it just works.
BTW mine is 14w18. But now the latest batch is 14w20 I guess.

How do u check the batch of the device???
Just confirmed no gapps or off center camera
Anyway for those thinking of grabbing this phone i suggest u should go for it ,the only disadvanatage i found is the 16gb limited memory but then i have a 32gb class 10 micro sd card so it compensates for it in other fields the phone runs fine ,,u will love it

Open the SD tray and there will be a small piece of plastic sheet having all the details.
I have this phone about a one month old. only one problem you can say that over heat when making 4k video. Other wise outstanding phone, extensive use this work perfectly. Water proof is ok.center displace does not effect pics nor videos.

I can only record (4K) max of 4 mins and after that I get the overheat message and camera App shuts down. This is happening to all users of Z2 as far as I know. Also other devices such as Note 3 and S5 has a software limiter to record max of 5 mins of 4K video.

Undervolt also helps in the heating issue plus in dooms kernel u have better heat management drivers as compared to stock so it will also give good results.......and as per undervolting i think in my device i can undervolt easily upto -60mv on alll frequency but that is device dependant and some devices endure and other dont so do some testing start with 25mv then 45 mv if u dont have freeze or performance issue u cani ncrease undervolting
Hope this helps

Use Thermal Paste to Cooling the G3

Many people struggle with the heating issue on the G3. We know that high temperature is not good for the CPU. And I discovered a unique way to solve this issue. Check out this crazy video I made and hopefully this would help you on modding and overclocking!:fingers-crossed:
But keep in mind, I am not responsible for any damaged devices. This mod would damage your warranty.
G3 teardown guide from ifixit
and video is on youtube named "Lg G3 thermal cooling mod" (The video is little shaky due to youtube video software, sorry )
sorry about cannot post the direct links due to the new user policy
Pretty cool, haven't had any major heating issues in the short time ive owned the phone personally, but nice idea
Heres the video for anyone interested

This looks awesome, well done! :good:
Could you give us some details before and after mod? Benchmark scores and temp?
Check the video, I use antutu and geekbench 3 for benchmarking. The temperature is around 60c+
And unstable core clock speed caused phone crash sometimes.
But after modding, issues solved

I don't know exactly what is the actual space between the 801 and the phone metal body but it realy looks like you put much too much thermal paste
What will happen soon or later is that all that thermal paste will start flowing all around the chip.
Then since most of the time when you use, and heatup, your phone it remains vertical, the thermal paste would probably contaminated all the battery slot.
I hope you did choose a dielectric thermal paste...
The thermal paste is fine and stay underneath the CPU, it does a really good job on cooling, it may be little too much in the video, but actually the gap between CPU and the metal is huge

it's the cooling affect great? Cause I'm a heavy user and my d851 always feels like it's going to explode from how hot it gets
Should work fine

A very good idea, never looked in to what is inside the phone! Will definitely be doing this tomorrow! [emoji106]
What temperatures are you getting during standard use (i.e. browsing, music etc. - not gaming)? I am currently getting 65-70 and would like to cool it down a lot.
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Forums
I did the modification yesterday and here are some logs before/after modification:
Before:
- CPU temp phone idle: 55-60 C
- CPU temp phone in use (Playing 2K video or browsing): 60-70C
After:
- CPU temp phone idle: 40C stable
- CPU temp phone in use (Playing 2K video or browsing): 45-55C
My next test will be in GPS mode in my car during a sunny day. This was shutting down my phone due to high temperature.
But so far, it seems to be positive while regarding only the measured temperatures.
PS: I'm using CPU Temperature app.
If you realy want this thermal mod, don't use thermal paste, use a good thermal pad.

I agree with this,
I would rather use a thermal pad then paste.
The pad could also easily be removed for waranty reasons without it being noticable.
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
Well, I don't know what kind of thermal pad you are using, but from my experience, thermal paste is MUCH more easier to remove and clean than a pad. Pads stick really bad.
I went with thermal paste and everything is ok, don't apply too much of it... It will not give better results anyway

Or maybe a copper shim, plus "thin" layers of thermal paste?

Did you get a sense of "how huge" the gap is? If it is close 1mm maybe a thermal pad or a copper shim would be better; or what do you think?

Best Game Settings for P7000

Hello!
I noticed that, when playing a game like marvel contest champion on the P7000, it runs a bit less smoothier than other devices and it lags sometimes, even with plenty of RAM and no other app opened on background.
I was wondering if there was a way to "fix" that and improve its gaming capabilities (i'm a phone n00b, but i read somewhere that you could actually tweak the GPU -settings- and improve its performance, if that makes any sense).
Can you guys help? i tried searching on the forum but found nothing that could be of any help. if i missed a thread, please give me a hand by pointing it out.
Thanks in advance.

@tool_king I had read of it before and it seems to fix the p6000 phones (AAL turned off) but the thing is I can't find that on my elephone p7000 . it has a lot of options but AAL is not there :/ maybe there's another name for it? (Tried googling it but couldn't find anything about it either)
