Solution to overheating/random reboots? - XPERIA X10 General

Hey, so I think many of you guys have random reboots, I have a few a week and sometimes my phone restarts to the lock screen and shuts off again and i have to let it cool down before i do anything.
So i read the SE forum and some dude said that set cpu will help with this problem. So Im wondering if any of you have tried this and it has worked...
also the custom roms, do they also help in this case? I know some are undervolted/overclocked.
doesn't overclocking make it worse or something?
can someone explain...
also someone said it has to do with the signal...i get full signal and it still reboots/shuts off.
i think it has to do with heat and that's about it.

This happens when you have some bad welds on ur phone motherboard. I read few articles from chinese tech sites abt this issue. My 1st x10 acts like urs, nothing could change it but buy a new one.

I am afraid that is true.
It sounds like a motherboard issue.
If you are out of warranty and/or you can't get a new phone,
try installing SetCPU and set it up according to the settings on my signature.
It could help a little, since the CPU will be working in lower frequencies.
Good luck!

Underclock using a custom kernel like FreeKernel Mod 3.60 & using Set CPU/Master CPU set lowest frquency to 128 MHz, while limiting the max frequency below 998 MHz to see if you can get heat under control...
You will take some hit on performance.
Also, try to keep the phone in as much air as possible, use without case & keep out of packet as far as possible etc...
Nothing too useful, that's about it.

Highest overclock on Wing/P4350?

I can only get 243mhz stable. At 260mhz, it works for a while, but then the screen starts getting a little ... squiglly is the best way to put it I guess. At 273mhz, the screen is unusable.
Definitely will not try higher, but I've seen people on here with 299mhz!!
284mhz with my last wing, I haven't tested this one. With my ROM, I don't really need the extra clocks to run smoothly.
I use batterystatus and set the omap to 247 and then let cpuscaler do the rest when it is sitting idle or whatnot. Seems to work for me!
I am running 299mhz perfectly stable on ttrans open touch 3.0 biggy with battary status. If I use scaler for some reason its not stable so I dont use it.
Although batterystatus claims that I'm running at 299mhz, omapclock says it's 276mhz. Both will cause it to freeze if I go any higher. I just kept increasing it until it froze, reset, and went with the last working setting. Just from reading here, there doesn't seem to be much consistency. Some wings freeze, while some work perfectly. I guess it depends on the mood of the assembler that day. But I have a problem with underclocking to save power. The screen makes this God-awful hissing whenever the speed drops below 188mhz.

The biggest thing with the inconsistency is the processors and roms, no processors are exactly the same, some heat up faster etc. and also the rom has a play in the speed factor with how fast it can go, if its processing too much at that speed it will heat up faster.

lol. It's ok, I change it every so often but usually only when I see a new vgcats that catches my eye.
Im working perfectly stable on 312MHz.
Sometimes it's a bit wierd but then CPUscaler helps me out

I was just now messing with my phone and said well lets see if i can run 312 so i did. It worked pretty well until i opened up solitaire, and then the screen looked like it was vibrating lol... so i changed it back real quick, that and the temp went up to 99 degrees F. I was like WOAH!!!
Mine is at 247 w/ CPUscaler enabled. 260 and it gets jittery. Anything past that and it turns white and locks up.
5ghz
my wings antenna broke and i cant connect to any networks anymore but i have a touch pro 2 anyways so im going to see just how high i can overclock it before it dies!!! mwa hah hah

Warning about running 780mhz

Mod Edit: Moved from Android Development. (General view, though not all agree, is that this is a better forum for this)
hi im only writing this to inform people to be carefull when your flashing roms and overclocking because the devs are not joking when they say that theyre not responsible for bricked phones. i am not blaming anyone. so ive had my g1 for quite a while now and have always used cyanogens mod. when kingkick released aosp 2.1 i flashed it. and have been using it since.
my g1 had the death spl and i had just 1 partion on my sd card. my fat32.
i flashed kingkicks 1.5 2 days ago and was running it at 780mhz. i noticed the battery would deplete faster than running at 528mhz. today i was running it at 770mhz and i had the brightness up 100%, i had wireless tether running, usb tether running, gps, and i was using google maps to buzz about my location. i set my phone down for maybe 1 minute and when i looked back at my laptop it had no connection. i checked my phone and it was super hot. the led light was red. i removed the battery and now it wont boot. it just rapidly turns out the red led light and it turns back off. good thing is i have insurance but just a warning to those that are doing stuff to their phone and have no insurance.

Hey, thanks for the info!
Another reason could be all the crap you have running, wifi/usb tething by themselves not with each other heat the phone up enough, running both and other apps, thats a deadly mix right there the chips can only handle so much heat, and with all of those

There are thermal fuses in the system that will blow when parts of the phone get too hot. There's one on the mainboard that I know of, and one or an equivalent protection system in the battery.
Personally I don't see what's wrong with warning developers (as distinct from integrators) that clocking the main CPU at 2x stock rate may exceed the power and/or thermal budget of the handset and that such mods may not be particularly wise for "daily-use" ROMs, i.e., those that aren't being cooked just to whore for attention.

Dang. I'm glad I over clock at 628 mahz 528 min. After reading a lot about how 780 mhz barely makes a difference from 628 mhz I don't know why people even over clock that much. 628 mhz is plenty for me.
So you had wireless and isb tethering going =HEAT... then were playing with maps and buzz while tethering 2 different ways... And you think its because of the overclocking?????
Good luck on that
errm, red led you say
OMG mine has a RED LED
hold on... that means its charging
phew....
seriously, I very much doubt this has anything to do with King's ROM @ 770Mhz the OC is a myth.
I have noticed my G1 get hot, even with the Rooted RC33 when running 3G/GPS

you people are ridiculous...this is good info, and a good warning, and instead of burying it in a thread he decided to make a new topic...as a warning...to the end user...
some of you people need to get off your high horse...it's not like you see as many "I just bought a G1 and it doesn't have multitouch, what do I do???" threads anymore...
sometimes I think you look for things to b*tch about.
(I haven't had any issues and I've been running at 780mhz max and min)
but he's pretty much saying...watch out...he doesn't know the deal...he's simply warning us.

first off, how am i on a high horse?
second, how is posting THIS thread in development not worthy of flaming?
third, he was running his device in a way that would overheat it without the unnecessary overclocking.
fourth, get off your "antihighhorse" high horse.

Not necessarily saying that. But which of the three threads would you have dj post it in? Or would you have them post it in all three? Personally I think it'd be nice if, since we have the thread now, the "me toos" got posted here, hoping all the same that there aren't any.

its only serving to perpetuate the OC myth
max is 528Mhz !!!
, the 'speed' increase people are reporting is more likely to do with 'Up threshold' tweaks i.e. it scales up sooner.
but yes, his heart is in the right place, the Post is not.

Is it ok to use Android's desk clock ?

I mean will the screen be affected much if it stayed on ( but very dim) all night? Will it reduce it's lifetime? Or will it cause problems to any of the device's hardware?
Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Finally I can use it without being anxious .
I thought I would harm my screen or something, But now no worries
This this problem pretty much only refers to CRT screens which I doubt mobiles have ever used!

Useless phone!

Is it just me, or is this phone nigh-on useless?
problems abound with it:
1) sometimes (quite often too) If I loose signal and then go into an area where I know there is now a signal, the Wildfire will not pick up the signal again - system has to then be rebooted!
2) Typing in a txt is damn awkward!
3) Phone does not understand MMS messages, what the hell is that all about!
4) It's SLOW. There are also bugs in the txt message routines - even this has a very slow response time when getting and updating recieved messages - very annoying.
5) Bluetooth connection to my Parrot CK3200 hands free kit is flakey - sometimes the phone is detected, others not (and it takes like 15 seconds to sync to it).
I'm glad I'm NOT using this phone for business purposes.
Comments on a postcard please!
It's not supposed to be a business phone. It is a smartphone for people on a strict budget, or, those who are just entering the world of smartphones, up from feature phones.
I cannot comment on your all your issues, but, in the few I can:
1) Never got signal issues myself. In areas I know there will be signal problems, the signal does drop indeed, but, it regains it as soon as I am out of the problem area.
2) Not really. I mean, it's just like any other pure touch screen operated phone. This cannot be a Wildfire specific issue.
4) It is indeed slow compared to top end flagship phones, but, I would point to my opening line again.

I will try my best to help you
1) I have not had this problem.
2)Try deleting some useless apps to make it quicker, or downloading an app such as ACcleaner to clear the cache?
Move apps to SD card?
3)What do you mean? As in sending them or receiving?
4) See 2)
5)Possibly a bug?
Still, this phone isn't a high end phone, its a budget conscious smart phone.
Hope I was of help
Well see is your phone branded? ;D
I understand the phone is lower end, entry level smartphone, but that aside, SURELY it should be capable of getting the BASICs right! Hence my rant.
Software is up to date and it's not 'rooted' etc. So faults not the result of me mucking about with it.
3) Issue with MMS is when recieving MMS messages, for example a simple picture. Bombs out every time!
Like I said, it's not managing to do the basics. I will attempt to do as you've suggested and remove some of the apps that may be bogging it down...
Thanks again,
Andy
I have signal problems in some part of my home. but it does regains the signals instantly. I guess if it does not regain on your device that means its specifically a problem with your device
For messaging and MMS issues, maybe you can use other Messaging applications like Go SMS, it may solve your problem
all above suggestions are very useful. You can also, Use task killer to free-up memory, that will boost the speed to some extent.
Another thing is root the device and use custom ROMs they are faster and let you have a lot of free space. I will root my phone soon
I think Wilfire is a different class phone, its a complete and capable smartphone but it may not be something you expected.
If you were using phone like Nexus or Desire etc., and then switch to Wildfire, that will definitely a downgrade for you and it will be annoying
For me, its great as I switched from Touch (Elf)... Using Elf for over 2 years with patience
Well it IS a low end phone and a crapy one at that
There are phones out there for half its price that perform WAY better, they're just not HTC.
And that is why we search and read reviews before buying anything. You can always chuck it or sell it and get a ZTE

Agreed. I sold my wildfire and got Sony Ericsson x8 which Is 99pound in uk it has better screen Res, faster CPU and a gpu. Can't go wrong. Compaired to the 159.99 to 189.99 for a wildfire. I did like the feel of wildfire though, and do miss sense a Tad.

Lol how much crap in one single post , :
Screen res is better on x8,no doubt.
Cpu is 600mHz where as wildfire has 528 mHz (not even noticeable with the crappy softwarelayer of SE)
It doesn't even support multi-touch??
And just saying : it's shipped with Donut (1.6) dude?!
Re your signal - the wildfire is set to connect to 2g and 3g networks. However the wildfire will defult to a weak 3g signal instead of a strong 2g signal

I get no problems with mine. I mean come on look at it's price it's cheap you can't expect too much from it.

I don't have those problems with mine. It seems to work perfectly, is it branded to someone, like Orange? They have a habit of plastering the phones full of there own addware junk, that will always smother the phones performance. I bought mine HTC stock and use a sim only contract .
I will add that my mother opted for the Sony X10. And the screen on that is not as bright and no where near as clear. It is quite apparently a lower quality screen. And the phone its self is not as tactile. And no touch sense.....
I'm glad I stuck with HTC

Only problems I had came from (poor) roms and are easily fixable (CM7 GPS for example).
1) never had any problems like this
2)install another keyboard? SlideIT or GingerKeyboard for example
3)had the same issue, but I haven't been getting much MMS' so far so it hadn't been that bad
4)don't you ever test the phone before you buy it? or compare the system specifications to other phones'?
Hi
I have Wildfire rooted CM7 and very pleased with it for a Budget smart phone, only fault I have found so far is that I cannot download Angry Birds for some reason. Was able to on stock Rom but not since ibstalling CM7.

its a great phone for the budget. i havent had any of the problems that u are facing.
i would like to know what is the rom u r using. is it an official froyo rom or a custom rom. if u r using a custom rom, then u cant comment on those things bcoz custom roms differ in performances.
i suggest u how to recover those issues.
u must have made ur phone buggy by installing many conflicting applications. do u know that installing two task managers or two app managers on the phone decrease the performance by conflicting with each other. try to know what else the conflicting apps will be.
i would recommend u to format the phone and memory card first. then donot install any app. use the phone like this for 2 days. and feel the difference.
if u feel a huge performance difference then the issue will be conflicting applications itself. if u still had problems, then the problem is with ur phone.then give it to service centre. let me know after doing this. after all u must know how to use ur phone before saying it as USELESS.

[Q]Is My Phone Broken?

hi its about my HD2.
about 5days ago my phone droped from my hand and felt on ground ! ceramics !
after that my phone hangs after playing anygame even 2D games !!!!
well games are no problem i thinks its from CPU or the cooling system it got cause when i play phones temp. goes higher and higher and screen freezez in game and i cant do a thing only pulling out the battery and w8 around 2-3minutes to make phone chill out and its temp goes lower then plug the battery and turn the phone on !
any way to fix it ? or any hint ?
anything would be great ! thanks alot !
Have you tried reflashing it starting with a task29? This way you can rule out it being a software issue and focusing on how to fix the hardware issue.
When it fell it probably broke something in the circuitry...i doubt software has anything to do with it...
