Highest overclock on Wing/P4350? - Wing, P4350 General

I can only get 243mhz stable. At 260mhz, it works for a while, but then the screen starts getting a little ... squiglly is the best way to put it I guess. At 273mhz, the screen is unusable.
Definitely will not try higher, but I've seen people on here with 299mhz!!

284mhz with my last wing, I haven't tested this one. With my ROM, I don't really need the extra clocks to run smoothly.

I use batterystatus and set the omap to 247 and then let cpuscaler do the rest when it is sitting idle or whatnot. Seems to work for me!

I am running 299mhz perfectly stable on ttrans open touch 3.0 biggy with battary status. If I use scaler for some reason its not stable so I dont use it.

Although batterystatus claims that I'm running at 299mhz, omapclock says it's 276mhz. Both will cause it to freeze if I go any higher. I just kept increasing it until it froze, reset, and went with the last working setting. Just from reading here, there doesn't seem to be much consistency. Some wings freeze, while some work perfectly. I guess it depends on the mood of the assembler that day. But I have a problem with underclocking to save power. The screen makes this God-awful hissing whenever the speed drops below 188mhz.

The biggest thing with the inconsistency is the processors and roms, no processors are exactly the same, some heat up faster etc. and also the rom has a play in the speed factor with how fast it can go, if its processing too much at that speed it will heat up faster.

lol. It's ok, I change it every so often but usually only when I see a new vgcats that catches my eye.

Im working perfectly stable on 312MHz.
Sometimes it's a bit wierd but then CPUscaler helps me out
wich ROM i am using is listed below.

I was just now messing with my phone and said well lets see if i can run 312 so i did. It worked pretty well until i opened up solitaire, and then the screen looked like it was vibrating lol... so i changed it back real quick, that and the temp went up to 99 degrees F. I was like WOAH!!!

Mine is at 247 w/ CPUscaler enabled. 260 and it gets jittery. Anything past that and it turns white and locks up.

5ghz
my wings antenna broke and i cant connect to any networks anymore but i have a touch pro 2 anyways so im going to see just how high i can overclock it before it dies!!! mwa hah hah

Yeah, RAM and processors all leave the factory with very different performance levels. For example, remember the Core Solo CPUs that Intel used to sell way back when? Well, those were just Core Duos with broken second cores. Instead of throwing them away, they decided to make some money off them.

Overclocked to 273 and my screen had an earthquake!

So i decided to overclock my wing yesterday. I started at 243 and i felt that it was too slow so i did a reset and ran it up to 273. It ran smooth and i loved it. So today after an hour long phone conversation, i look at my screen to see it wiggin out...like its having an earthquake...like looking at your reflection in a pond, throwing a rock in it and having the image all messed up..etc...so i did a soft reset and it didnt fix the problem...so i underclocked it down to 260 and its running smooth again....
So my question is...has this happened to anyone else (i checked but couldn't come up with anything)...and 2 what the hell happened?....and three, did i do any damage to my phone?
Thanks in advance!

I overclocked my HTC S621 to 288 (i am currently on 276) and my screen went crazy too. my sliding panels looked like scattered confetti and the outer ends were glitching lights so i put it back down to 276 and it runs great......I believe it is that the refresh rate on the screens (just like your lcd comp. monitor) is not fast enough for an overclocked system of that magnitude, therefore it freaks out. as far as doing damage to your phone, u shall see in the long run i guess...sorry...lol...i really dont believe you did any damage though...as long as your programs are still running smoothly
Yeah thats pretty common and I've done it many many times with no damage whatsoever. Here recently it was pretty wierd. I went to 260 and it wigged out. And I said screw it I'll go higher and see what it does so I went up to 312 and it was perfect. But that seemed like a little too much so i'm currently running at 299 and its perfect. I've also found that it reacts differently with different roms.
ok u guys are saying that you are overclocking to these crazy ass speeds mine only goes up to 288.....im using omap clock on kavanas rom...can u tell me how to go higher?
Battery Status Ill Provide Link Later
my story on this:
i had a nice phone... everything was running great, than tha wifi started not to work anymore... i had it "omaped" to 247 all the time and was fine with it! no problems on anything!
but i got a replacement because of the wifi-problem!
now this one was okay.. everything was okay... again omaped it to 247 and everything looked good till it got warmer around it - like having the wifi turned on and surfing the net with display on... it "earthquaked" first only in the top of the screen, till the whole screen went crazy...
today i called my provider to get a replacement... because it is (was, till now) clear, my replacement was not okay...
mmm... now i know that it IS okay... but... tomorrow the UPS-man brings a new one! hope that that one works again on at least 247
I've done that... on one of my MDA's... it was permanent... and I had to get a replacement...
Hi y'all i 2 have the something going on cant get it past 247 hey its not just mine Ive tried it on 3 wings 2 with open touch v3.0 biggy and one right out of the store brand new, anyway Ive been reading on this for many days now, i think I'll try to flashing a new rom, but i don't think its going to help, i'll get back to ya when i find a rom i like, till then happy modding
mine wigs out at several different speeds, but 299mhz seems to work great but wigs out at 286mhz. go figure. the best tip can give is do not set it to overclock after reboot incase the phone wigs out you can soft reset and be back to factory setting and change from there.
To get higher speeds use Battery Status! much better plugin.I have been at 299mhz for about 4 months no issues

why am i stuck at 663mhz??

can figure out how to get my speeds above 663? i got this giant processor and cannt use near close to all of it??? thanks
Did u try SetCPU for it?
It is AUTOMATIC. Just because you're not seeing the 998mhz, doesn't mean it's not getting there when under adequate load.
It is kinda same like on newer cpus for pc. maybe it says 2.66 Ghz but it is not clocked like that whole time. just "under pressure"
Actually, I recall someone else posting about this a few days ago, and another XDA'er pointed out that the app was measuring one way, and the true speed was actually 1.5 times that measurement. 663*1.5=994.5mhz. Again, you're fine.

SGS ultra hot during Dungeon Defenders

Hi guys,
I'm just wondering, my phone gets ultra hot when i'm running hd games or dungeon defenders.
It's so hot that it's barely comfortable holding the phone.
touching the screen on the left keypad (which is the top left of the phone - near the cameras) is near impossible and borderline scalding and blistering.
Are you guys experiencing this on your phone?
I have similar during "Medieval Castle Defense", especially if I have brightness turned up.
Since I have rooted my phone and locked its upper clock to 800MHz this has decreased a lot, its now getting only hand warm. Performance is still good - no lags, no hangs, and if I need more power, I can just "unlock the lock".
So I guess while using very graphic intense applications while having brightness not drecreased, this is normal.
Thing is, I don't have brightness up that high. I usually keep it in the low region. And by low, I mean in the 10-20% region.
I'm surprised that the phone cooks up a lot during intensive gaming. a bit worried that it might fry itself during gaming..

Dungeon Defenders working on SGS2 already?
Yes, this the only and first game that I have found makes the phone exceptionally hot, in particular near camera area, even some of the heavy graphical gameloft games only make the device warm, must be something wrong with the game I would say, removing the game

From the tear down, the problem lies with the processor. or mainboard.
What's your settings?
Rooted/unrooted?
Rom?
I'm running stock unrooted 2.3.3 and i'm having this problem.
I did notice that it doesn't get heated all the time. Hot yes, but not all the time. It does mean that it might not be safe to run background apps while heavy gaming.
Im geeting the same problem with guns'n'glory and robo defense. I have brightness at 50% but the phone becomes a fire risk after about 30 minutes of play.

Badly designed phone or game not optimized well enough for SGS2?

Not sure.
What is your phone setup?
i'm running unrooted stock rom I9100XWKF-1
What are you running on?
I have read somewhere that KE-2 version does not overheat.
Cannot confirm that though.
I have Asphalt 6 a racing game which isn't playable with my silicone cover around it. It will eventually lag and will stop. Without the cover i have no problems. Also having this problem with the gangster game from gameloft.
Guys, the actual problem on the phone is heat dissipation. It's very thin and made of plastic. So,all the heat the processor generates goes directly to its environment.I don't think it's going to get burnt or something, but it makes everyone feel uncomfortable.
The best solution available for those who don't want to sacrifice any performance is rooting and undervolting. Most phones should be able to handle 1200MHz at 1200mV.This saves you from a good amount of overheating.Tegrak Ultimate or custom kernels allow for undervolting for those who haven't bothered yet.
I for one am overclocked too,but don't experience any overheating that often.Only when I go up to 1.6GHz my phone overheats a lot,but still, not as much as when it was stock.
I havent had any game really warm up my phone, this game makes the phone just a tad bit warm like angry birds.

I can coming from KE2 - same issue with RoboDefense. I did factory reset the phone and I think it solved the issue mostly. I tested it only briefly so cannot confirm 100% as I uninstalled the ancient RoboDef version I had short after that and installed a new one from market. Phone did got warm, not burning though as it used to.
I did the factory reset because I suspected something's draining the battery and couldn't tell what (factory reset solved this as well) so I think it has something to do with combination of some processes which are running concurrently.
I am currently running the KE2 kernel and I am here to report that I have heating issues when playing HD games also. The heat really bothers me or shall I say worry me a lot? I'm looking to root my phone and underclock it so it won't get that hot.

Yeah,me too.Believe me,I had some serious overheating at stock speeds, let alone when I tried 1.4GHz.I used to underclock to 1GHz or 800MHz to play games in fact.Since I made it 1.6GHz,overheating adios.Well, kind of.Still,it's far better than stock.Never burnt my finger with 1.6!

So we may say that Exynos is done for 1.6. and underclocked and this pisses our little dual-core gem off ))
But i'll give it a try. Actually most of the time phones get hot ehen they're intensly used for connection. I never had CPU overheating any of my phones till now. I gues Samsung's own softcraps screws their hi-tech device. A slimmed modified undervolted-kerneled ROM without Samsung's softcrap will do the job...
By the way..t hanks for the heads up man...
try underclocking to 800mhz, performance shouldnt suffer too much, and the phone wont get as hot.

Well,it's not guarranteed this will also work on other's devices.Keep in mind that every CPU is unique, for many reasons that I won't discuss here, you probably already know. Many things are in play here though. Some people have even experienced overheating more than normal when undervolting.Things are reaaaally ****ed up.It's probably that with changes in voltages, resistances also change inside the chip. That MAY be causing it,just taking a wild guess here,so take my word with more than one pinch of salt.

WTF?? Heating up issue after 30 mins of use!!

Always come from a rogue app. Something is stuck in memory. Reboot, check, if still does it, uninstall last couple of apps, if still does it, factory reset.

If this isn't widespread (GSMArena's been playing hard with the N3 and plenty of people here have run some pretty intensive benchmarking programs) it's likely some combination of what you individually installed/uninstalled. The N2's on 4.1 with Exynos/Mali and the programs you're running now are on 4.3 with Snapdragon/Adreno. Not exactly the same environment to make a comparison. I'd expect the N3 to run hotter than the N2 out-of-the-box.

Based on your baseband it's snapdragon800, the quad core one.
Any chance you can go through the checks listed to understand if it's an app that caused it?

another nice thing i noticed u can turn on flash support in dolphin browser to allways on. Even though we dont have flash this wasnt possible on note2.
Yes, there somewhat of a heating issue. Still not sure what triggers it and how. I don't care much about it, but I dare bet the very high clock speed of the processor has something to do with it.

Cool, one of the reviews referenced it getting hot the first time they used it, they chalked it up to all of the updating of pre-installed apps loading up the memory
This happened to me with my unlocked 9005 snapdragon n3.
Only in the first 3 hours or so.
When I looked at battery consumption it showed that a process called sonetging like "indexing service" was chewing on the battery power.
I think the search feature was indexing my content which was on ny sd card for the sfind to work fast.
Now the temperature is cool but a bit warmer than my previous N2.
