Well the instructions are always given in the rom thread.
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
You can find the instructions from the ROM's thread itself, but the most common way is:
*for ROMs without custom kernels:
1. Boot your phone to recovery mode by pressing and holding the power button, volume up key, and the home button simultaneously.
2. You can navigate through the screen by using the volume keys as the up/down buttons and enter with the home key. navigate your way to "wipe data..........", and "wipe cache".
3. Next, hit "Apply Update from SD card", then choose your ROM.. (Note: Your ROM should be in the root of your sd card)
4. Hit "reboot system now"
Note: Flahing custom roms require you to Wipe all data (except from data from the sd card..), better backup your apps, messages, contacts, etc. first.. Thank you..
hi there,
welcome to xda,
i understand you are new,
but please read and understand the search function,
and browse through the development forum,
most rom authors have provided specific instructions on the installation processes

Thats a good habit, keep it up. I appreciate. Just make sure that you use important keywords like flashing cm7 galaxy y, and keep it short, that will give you probably the best results. The results are shown on the basis of thread title and tags used by the op.

Definitely not at that level yet mate, I just enjoy helping........ some people, others I just like to annoy so if I ever do make it to that stage I'd much prefer to swing over to the darkside. Its more fun.
I don't think its possible for clockwork to open a zip file??
It'll either try to flash or come up with an error.

Hey guys!
I have a root method for the OG Epic on Android 2.3.6 FC09!
All the requirments are that you install ODIN from the link below and download the proper files from the links below as well!!
Step one) put your device into Download Mode
Step 2) Connect to your computer and make sure ODIN recognizes your device
Step 3) Flash the Clockworkmod.tar.md5. Make sure EVERYTHING is unchecked INCLUDING AUTOREBOOT!!!!
Step 4) Once ODIN does its thang, unplug your phone and pull the battery
Step 5) Now reboot into CWM Recovery by pressing and holding the power button, camera, and volume down button until the capacitive buttons at the bottom show
Step 6) Now locate the ROM.zip. It should be called DeodexedFC09.zip
Step 7) Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache Partition, Wipe Dalvik Cache, and if you want Wipe Batt Stats
Step 8) Now reboot, and you should be running Stock Rooted FC09!
Enjoy!!

Greatly appreciated! If you've got that down...try learning more! There is lots out there to learn! For instance trying different roms and kernals and see what you can find that someone hasn't or learn to build app(I'm working on one). Thanks for helping the Community, someone will find this helpful!

If memory serves; didn't Mkasick write a zip that prevented the stock recovery overwrite? This way, you could leave the "auto reboot" box checked in Odin when rooting? I seem to remember a follow-up QBK77 video chronicling such an event...

Hi krenlan,
Welcome to XDA. If you want to know how to use Odin, please follow the this [GUIDE] Samsung Galaxy Young for Dummies 2nd Edition - New Users Start Here . If you are flashing your phone using a Windows 7 machine, please follow this mini guide to make sure you have all the necessary drivers needed for you to be able to flash your phone.
Follow the steps below:
1. Remove any USB device connected to your computer EXCEPT your phone in download/odin mode with the USB Data Cable connected to both your phone and your computer.
2. Disable searching Windows Update for updated driver
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
In the Tasks list, click Advanced System Settings.
On the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Windows Update Driver Settings.
Select Never check for drivers when I connect a device.
Click OK twice, and then close the System dialog box.
NOTE:
If you don't disable that, you computer will look for an updated driver online. So what? Ain't that great?! -No its not!
Why? Because if your computer wasn't able to find a driver within "waiting time", you'll end up getting "device driver not installed" and you won't be able to flash your phone.
Say what? -yes you read that right, some drivers will be installed ONLY when your phone is actually in flash progress. Hell yeah that sucks! :laugh:3. Now, go to the link I have given you and look for the driver's direct download link and install it, afterwards please REBOOT your computer.
4. Once you have the driver installed, run Odin and flash your phone.
PS. All the stuff you need is on the guide I created, you just need to READ.
BTW, don't let yourself be a model of future newbies on this section who will create "rubbish" threads. Believe me, those who sound rude in saying you are spamming and not posting in the right section, they've been there and they hated it, so don't let yourself be called "spammer". They we're once called like that, but they learned how to read and follow rules. -I may be wrong though, so you can safely ignore this and let the mods waste their social energy cleaning up the section.
Another note:
The above steps work on both Windows Vista and Windows 7 and perhaps Windows 8, if you are using Windows XP, skip number 2 and install the driver in the guide.

Hey everyone.
I have read alot of threads relating to the different ways to flash my samsung fascinate. They are all pretty easy to understand.
But i have a tablet, a Zenithink C91, It came with 2.3 and updates have been released from the manufacturer regularly.
The tablet comes rooted. On my tablet, when i reload, or upgradem i simply put the upgraded ROM zip on the SD card, hold the 3 buttons and it finds, loads and reboots all in one operation.
Why isnt the process the same on the fascinate? i mean once the phone is rooted, Why cant you just load a jellybeen ROM zip on the SD card and use the 3 button method.
I guess im not making the connection as to why its so much more complicated for the phone. I can reload 2.3 from 4.0, upgrade 2.3 to 4.0 without doing anything but putting the file on the sd card.
Is this because the updates are straight from the manu and for that specific model?
Hope that doesnt sound to stupid. Thank you for any help. Love the work bein done i try to donate much as poss.
Fry
for the fascinate you can actually view, select and flash more than once thing at once in recovery. we can't use the 3 button method due to a bug but you can boot into CWM using apps or a computer and then browse all your files and flash whatever you want. It isn't as simple but gives you a lot more freedom and options in how you do things.
