As the name of the thread states here you can discuss all your concerns about S-OFF for this great device....Any developers want to use this to discuss amongst others feel free and if you like i can keep the OP updated with the latest on goings..
Anyways guys feel free to discuss and please keep it civilized...
Thank you for the thread!
How likely is the device going to get S-OFF? Should it be easy or hard for S600?

Chain fire 3d will work with just root
But its only for older versions of android
Dual boot is possible without s-off, just a pain
The main thing that normal users will benefit from having s-off is being able to flash kernels in recovery and flashing radio firmware

Can I suggest you guys also sort out any differences between different carriers, regions, etc in relation to the method being tested. For example, having a willing test user from the majority of regions. That way, if the method is found, we can know if it will work with all One variants or certain ones. Just something to think about.

Lol, that's what this thread is for. So everyone can suggest and try different things. With the ultimate goal being, obtaining s-off

Doesn't really do anything, that would be a dev thread.
Goku, can I also suggest you keep a list of tested methods and results in the op until the correct method is found? That way nobody will keep suggesting the ones that have already been tried.

However, these type of threads are for the devs to discuss this and keep it out of the dev boards until the method is found. We, as normal users, can contribute to their efforts by suggesting and testing if we are willing. However, if you have nothing to contribute to their effort, and the ultimate goal of this thread, then they kindly ask you to not post and just enjoy the reading when the dev part comes into play after release.

That has never been the point of these kinds of threads, these threads have basically been a way of keeping the "GIBE ME S-OFF PLS WHEN I WANT S-OFF" types out of dev threads.
People that actually know how to crack security post in the dev threads.

With S-Off it should be possible to simply change the devices CID to Supercid (ie 11111111) with a simple command

Aroma can flash a kernel in recovery even with S-ON on the HTC One. Its been discussed in the Android Revolution HD ROM thread. I tried it, it works.

we need a set method of getting s-off like the g2's s-off, is there anyone out there who has has success?

It wasn't a wind-up. That guy has a Desire Z (he did a very comprehensive tear-down), and he's deep into s-off and hboot etc. So if anyone knows, he does. I believe he's IntuitiveNipple on IRC.
If I were you I would ask this question over on the G2 forums, where there's a lot better chance of finding someone who has done it.

Hello everybody
I want to root my HTC wildfire devices. For this I downloaded the unrevoked software with its drivers. After that I followed all the steps from xda forum. But at the last.... I am getting an error message about....firmware too new....(I m Frm my phn, do I can't provide the link or correct message).....please help me
Thanks

That is an error you get with the newest update from HTC. This update contains the HBOOT 1.01. That can't be rooted using unrevoked. this is a post regarding the same problem
If you read a little more you see that AlphaRevX states they has the solution but it is not quite there yet.
As of now the only way to root it is to get someone with an XTC clip to get it s-off first.
there are allready a lot of posts in here regarding this problem.

Nope. But there is a beta testing going on for alpharevx, so there is already a solution in the pipeline. I'm afraid the only the that can be done is wait and hope it gets trough the test phase..
For the rest of your possible questions:
- nobody knows how long to wait, probably not even the dev's.
- the beta testing is "closed", which means that you have to be invited by the alpharev team personaly. I'm sure that they have enough wildfires to test, because they don't launch any questions for people willing to sacrifice there wildfire. So no need to contact them: if everyone sends them with the same question, then one can call that spamming
So again, sit back and relax, as it is the only thing that can be done now

I have engineering SPL(.85.2007), stock is .86. Dont know about .76, never heard of it.
It depends on the root method you used. The "gfree" method leaves the stock bootloader in place (0.86) unless you follow the optional steps and flash the engineering bootloader (0.85). The "visionary" method flashes the engineering bootloader as a key part of the root process (when running the root.sh script). I've never heard of a 0.76 bootloader for the MT4G. Could it be from the Panache?
Aren't you supposedly a dev? If one could supposedly cook cough. .. cough... I mean code his own roms. Wouldnt one know the answer to that already?!!

This thread is being created to explain, in short, a few common phone 'terms.' Now although there are many threads explaining the same thing they are 'thicker' and written differently. A different guide will help a different person. I think it is valid that there is more than one explanation of the same thing. If you have ANY suggestions, please leave them in post form below. I have explained this relative to the Xperia x8 and this is why it is in our territory.
Remember that this is a MINI guide. So not every term in the android language will be explained. For a more complicated guide see HERE or on the everything x8 w8 thread here. Both guides are different.
Anyway Here is a mini guide about phone terms:
A ROM stands for Read Only Memory, ususally on this site referring to the phone's internal memory where your apps are stored. It's like an operating system. (OS) When people say they're flashing a new ROM, it usually means they are installing a new 'operating system'. A custom rom may have new features different to the STOCK rom.
The term Stock usually means the version of something installed by the manufacturer. Or in other words, the stuff already on that thing.
An .APK is a Package on Android. Usually you will meet these when installing apps on your phone. This is, simply put, just a file extension, like .exe on windows.
Rooting is simply giving your phone administrators rights. No roms or anything. Once rooted you could install clockworkmod which would allow you to install a rom that would work on you STOCK kernel (the one that comes with xperia).
A kernel is a set of instructions to a phone. different kernels or custom kernels (not stock) enable you to flash some more advanced roms as not all roms will work on STOCK kernel.
Also, in most cases, different kernels allow overclock and undervolt. These things allow you to make your device run faster.
Unlocking your BootLoader is required to install a custom kernel. Unlocking a bootloader can be difficult and if done wrong, can brick your device completely.(make it useless like a brick) This is why I did not do it until a few weeks ago - because I was scared. If you do however find yourself bricked, look to my guide no further than HERE.
You flash kernels with Flashtool. But you MUST have an unlocked BootLoader to do this.
If I was to recommend a rom, I would say MiniCyanogenmod (CM for short). The developer, nAa, focuses on getting the galaxy nexus android - pure version. Check out my review on the stable ever wonderful MiniCM9 HERE.
Links to Flashtool, ROMS and other things mentioned will be in my other guides hyperlinked in the article.
Please be generous with the 'Thanks' if you appreciate my effort.
Special Thanks to I Am Nice for his consistent helpful feedback

Sigs don't always tell the truth, just want to know
there are or were 2 ways of rooting a Wildfire [buzz] the latter you had to default to if the best one didnt work or wouldnt take on your revision - i have 2 wildfire one unrooted and the other rooted via the second method - i may try and brick the second one with this method - the only thing annoying about the Buzz is the 2SD to get any reasonable storage from it.

I think you're still in stock recovery. Try flashing CWM.
Find a PC49IMG.zip (look in development section) and copy to SD. Boot into the Bootloader, it'll detect the zip. Choose yes. it'll install it.
This will give you CWM recovery.
