We all love portable devices because they provide flexibility. Ironically most of the time they are being used as desktop devices and are plugged in all the time.
This is potentially a problem because batteries wear off much more faster if they are not being used enough.
There are some hints for protecting your battery:
1- Use it only when you need to
2-Don't let it get hot!!
3-Don't store it with out some charge (I think about 75% is suggested)

Nobody have a Samsung Galaxy S4 yet, so it's a bit early to talk about battery optimization specific to this model.
If you search XDA and The Internet you will find a lot of threads talking giving general advises about battery

I agree with you,and for me,I generally charge the phone when it reminds me low battery rather than charge it until it has no battery.
Yeah, the batteries only last for around 1000 full charge cycles and cost a MASSIVE $20 to replace.
I'm thinking I'll only use my phone twice a day for 5 minutes and only ever discharge the battery to 25% and only ever charge it to 75!,!!

As of late I haven't really heard any more news of significant clock speed gains from other higher end phones such as the Droid X/2 or the SGS phones.
From what ive read the X/2 overclocks were overinflated fibs and the OC method used in the SGS phones overstated their true clock speeds. Anything that I have missed?

Ahhh, the beauty of trying to sound witty on a forum.
One would never assume the OP graduated with an associate degree in automotive technology in early 09'. Now that I've stepped out of my realm of expertise into this forum and asked a simple question (at least it's not in the dev forum) I would like some serious input if that's alright. Just proud of my phone that's all.
BTW, the correct terminology is detonated, not exploded and it can be caused by any number of issues...my money is on either a boost spike or lifted head.
Seriously not trying to be an ass here, the g2 has gotten some press over this issue lately and its legit unlike the other phones.
Thanks dude.

not that i am against overclocking(this is the first phone i overclocked and i set it to 1 gig) but other than "because i can" why do we need it faster than 1.9? sometimes i like to put my phone to my face to talk on it and i would like to keep from needing skin grafts. do any of our apps really NEED anything more than maybe 1.2?
psx4droid runs great at the higher speeds as long as you keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I have the 1800mhz Zimage on my phone right now but I keep it restricted to 1000mhz via setcpu.
Really I see it as about pushing the boundaries for the sake of knowledge, if I could compile my own personal kernel I would but being on the verge of going to pharmacy school and work both keep me too busy to learn how.
This thread isn't really about why one would do it, it was just simply asking how the g2 is fairing against other higher end phones.
I'd love to see something like this as well. Sooner or later, we're going have to start installing heatsinks on to our phones.

man, i like your style!
this is a great idea.. but: plates must be very close to eachother, and it's unuseful if the plates are close to other parts themeselves; don't exceed with the paste: it must be a small quantity that, pressed, it expands itself close the the edges of the component
if it doesn't work, you can clean the paste with some alcool, using a cotton-fioc ( you know, these little cotton-sticks you can use to clean your ears )

If you absolutely need the highest capacity on a device like this, you will need to bump charge. There are currently people experimenting with "fixes" for this, but I have yet to see one that works. Be warned, however, that repeated bump charging will wear your battery faster and begin to reduce its capacity.

He tells us to bump charge if we need to get higher battery, but says that it can hurt our battery life.
Basically to me it gave proof to my assumption that we're not gonna get much more from these batteries. I posted it because there's question after question asking about the battery life. This should give some insight to some. With 1ghz cpus and hardware that rivals a low end netbook with a battery that's tiny compared to one, we should be happy to be getting a full days use out of them. That's just my opinion tho.

totally, deep cycling is bad for Li-Ion batteries. The calibration on the other hand I don't know. The article did talk about about having the battery meter catch up to reality. Maybe reconditioning the battery helps the meter do that faster? I doubt it, but you never know I guess.

Your powers of deduction are lame. There's obviously tradeoffs with the bump technique,as he points out.
Man, I've had my ups and downs with people here, and have gotten into the occasional disagreement, but mostly everyone here has grown into an awesome group that respects one another. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people in the Nexus forums are cool, but sooo many seem to argue just to have something to say. Like, a public battery screenshot thread. My lord I forgot to screenshot screen on time, so I'm hiding something and I'm a liar, because my experience here with you guys has taught me how to properly manage Android to its potential, and get great battery while still actually using the device like a normal person. Guess I'm just venting here because of how ridiculously they go off on you for no reason.
/end rant
Thanks for reading.
Btw, the ridiculous claim I made was close to 3hrs screen on at 15hrs battery and 50% left. Maxed out at about 4hrs 15min screen on with 20hrs battery at between 5-10% when I finally plugged in. I have seen people, with included screenshots of screen on time, reach 20hrs and 5hrs screen on with the same stock battery for the Sprint Nexus (1850mah), but my claims are ridiculous.
Not sure why I would need to lie.

And don't get me wrong, people in the "dev" section are cool. It's the general and questions *******s that give me grief every time I post.
And the device itself is awesome. The dev of my ROM just put out a final build, meaning it's done, which is nice. Just pure, simple, stock AOSP based on the most current source code and only necessary fixes.

I think the benefit we had as Epic 4G users was that for the "most part"(not including those who came from different carriers/non Android devices. You're loved too lol) we were a compilation of Moment users or Hero Users. Moving to the Epic at first for the most part, so we didn't have a huge dissemination in belief as group we learned together for the most part. On the Galaxy Nexus, you've got a galaxy full of every Android user and their Mom from different stock and custom experiences arguing what they believe is the only possible and logical way things should work, doesn't sound too fun. But I'm sure it makes for a few good laughs.

I wish I could express how sad this thread makes me, if I remember this is supposed to be a site for development. If there's anything to discuss here it's that you might see 300-400 megs of RAM more than your current and LTE will chew through that measly battery. If you always pre-order the latest greatest you'll be a man with very little money and not much to show for it. 200 dollars for an LTE radio which will destroy battery life and a few hundred megs of RAM. As one guy said the Note would at least be a different phone and probably a better investment, either that or keep your current GS3 and get an LTE capable tab. Every single experience I've had with LTE on my phone leads to general dissatisfaction due to it dying half way through the day. Anyway pointless thread, stop blowing money on pointless stuff enjoy what you have.

I've a year or so left on my contract anyway and my current provider "3" doesn't offer an LTE service at the moment anyway, so I'll just wait and see how the LTE market matures here in the UK.
At the moment I have unlimited data including tethering and that suits me just fine.. "3" are just rolling out the latest version of HSPA+ with support for theoretical speeds of 42Mbps so Im hoping that will give me most of a good balance of speed and battery life.

Please, step down from that high horse of yours. The general section is for stuff that isn't really development related, and if this discussion cannot be held here, it would have been locked by now. You want development related activities, relocate yourself to the development forums on this very site.
Just because you have had a bad experience with LTE devices, doesn't mean OP will. Yes, it consumes more battery and RAM than a non-LTE capable phone, but there are people who don't mind. Personally, I won't buy an LTE phone, because 3G suits me more than enough, but that's me.
If this thread makes you sad, why did you feel the need to drop a useless comment showing it? You would have saved approximately 10-20 seconds (give or take) by not posting that comment.

Please, step down from that high horse of yours. The general section is for stuff that isn't really development related, and if this discussion cannot be held here, it would have been locked by now. not really useless considering the fact, despite I don't really like the idea of this thread I still answered OPs question. Xda-Developers isn't about developing anymore?(I need to section myself off to a specific "development thread" instead of discussing general things about the phone) there will always be something better than what you have making a thread to point out you're not satisfied is fairly pointless. Arguing with someone who tells me to get off my high horse is another. General forum is general discussion about the gt-i9300 Samsung Galaxy S III not about what you're going to buy next week or what else is better. enjoy your damn device.
P.S. If you want to have a circle jerk about new devices and pushing people off their "high horses" reddit is always an option. :fingers-crossed:

You didn't have to reply at all.

Really, now? Then why do we have development sections?

If you ask me, the OP didn't seem unsatisfied.

You had it coming. You act like what you say was important, when it was unnecessary.

Well, he did talk about the S3, just not the specific "i9300". No forums exist yet for the i9305 LTE-specific version, so this'll have to do until such forum exists.

I never did like Reddit to begin with.

Development is strict development only, but just because it says general doesn't give anyone the right to flood it with topics that don't even have a relation to your device. Saying you don't like Samsung because they made a different variant of the phone or perhaps "better" is silly anyway.
If you ask me, the OP didn't seem unsatisfied.
"F U Samsung" seems pretty satisfied mate.
You had it coming. You act like what you say was important, when it was unnecessary.
You act like you had to reply to me in the first place, the only reason to respond to me was to start an argument, which is fine. but let's continue this in PM and stop flooding the thread.

Then make a general thread about the device, don't whine about how you wish you could exchange yours for another.
I enjoy my device. There's nothing damned about it.
"damn" is used as a superlative, not literally damning it.

I don't mean to seem like the bad guy here, but the constant flood of threads about "I don't have enough RAM, I exchanged my phone for X device, the camera sucks" just gets old. If you wish to continue this I'm more than happy to in PM.

Yes there is a fair few but most of them are not against the rules and therefore you have no right telling someone what they can and can't post, that's up to the mods.
If you don't like those posts then don't post on them because they will eventually go a few pages in front, you posting in them is just bumping them back to the top.

Why would he want to choose the Note 2? If I could choose again I would stick with the S3. Your preference is not everyone else's.

Well said thank you... The S3 is the best phone around and with that extra edge it will make it perfect for me. And a little more future proof. And My network doesnt provide LTE at this moment but are looking to in future so it wil be good to have the option atleast and extra 1GB
