Supplied in this zip below is a slightly modified eri.xml file from the EVO forum. This file will go directly in /data. The permissions should be full, meaning...in root explorer if you long-press on the eri.xml file and select "permissions" all boxes should be checked.
1. Download eri.xml.zip
2. Extract and put the eri.xml file in /data
3. Change permissions either by rootexplorer or by doing: chmod 777 /data/eri.xml in adb shell.
By default is says "Google" for the banner.
Changing the banner text to what you want: if you open up eri.xml you will see "Google" 3 times. Replace the word Google with what you want your banner to be. Make sure to have all three say the exact same thing.
Not working for me. I edit it and save. Is there something else I have to do afterwards?
Btw, I move it to /data on phone and not on SD right?

Make sure you only changed "Google" & in all 3 references.
Yes just /data. Make sure your permissions are right and reboot

OK I rebooted and its coming up as "roaming indicator off" I'm sure I did something wrong. I changed the permissions and made sure all boxes were checked, even special permission boxes.

I got it working finally. Apparently the permissions change when u mess with the files, so u have to go back and double check that they're all checked.
Thx for the info!

On the lockscreen in the upper right corner, pull down your notification bar and it says Sprint. That is the "banner"

The banner shows the carrier you're using. For instance if you're using a GSM phone, the banner will display carrier name that is linked to your sim card.

this changes the eri, which is located in three places. on the notification pull down, the lock screen and in "Settings > about phone > status > Network".
this worked perfectly for me after you posted earlier. thanks.
I am still getting "roaming indicator off" and I can't understand why. Every permission is checked, I have repaired permissions and rebooted...
CM7 nightly
UPDATE: I foolishly placed the folder and file in /data instead of just the .xml file. All is well now
Thanks! Love this hack

Eh, I'm using root explorer's text editor, which doesn't actually display line numbers, so I'm, uh, counting with my fingers. So I'm just going so shut up now, mmmkay?

I'm trying to hide some pictures from folders that I need from the Gallery app.. I used to do this by adding a ".nomedia"folder.. But since I got the galaxy s3 it doesn't seem to be working that way.. I can't delete the pictures or the apps won't work.. Does anybody have a fix for this.. Without downloading a application for it? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I used to use a folder.. But either way neither of them work (file/folder)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
just add the .nomedia file to the folder.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
How are you adding the file? Maybe I can walk you through it... check you private messages if you need help still
After you add the .nomedia file, clear gallery cache, reboot, and see if the pictures are there.
I did... I have never had a problem doing this before.. Until the galaxy s3 its soo strange., I appreciate everyone's help thank you so much.. I just can't figure this out. I will post some screen shots

You could also try deleting those pictures. Then they're sure to not show up.

I just sent you a link in a private message with the nomedia file i created - maybe the one your creating has a permissions issue, so maybe if you download that one and put it in your directory, then clear the data and reboot it will fix your issue...
I had this problem too. Download hide it pro and you can set pics to not show in the gallery.

I think your problem is using myfiles to create the file - try using a different file explorer - i use root explorer but there are others ones like astro that should work, then clear the data and reboot....
If you look myfiles doesnt see my .nomedia file but root explorer does:

If you clear data it will not delete your photos, it will just make gallery rebuild its database of the files...
Why are you adverse to downloading an app to accomplish your goal? There are free apps that do what you need and with a lot less time and hassle.

[Q] When I open a old then thread with 100+ thanks and 1000+ replies, my XDA app gets slow down and sometimes FC. Why so ??
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
On XDA app, when I click on a link on a post(to another thread), I can't subscribe that visited thread. It says "invalid topic id". So, I'm bound to use Tapatalk forum app for this. Also, during threads being loaded (on XDA app startup), the XDA app force closes on long pressing "loading*" icon.
On Tapatalk Xparent Themed App, I can't even receive notifications. It says no account defined...
Also, can some buddy tell me how to upload pics from gallery via XDA/Tapatalk app. I have to use browser everytime to upload pics.

When you upload via xda or tapatalk app, below you can see an addition box.
There click on inline and you will get "[ attach ]xyzagsd[ attach ]" and submit it and it is uploaded.
If you still have doubt feel free to ask.
Hit thanks if it helpes you.

Has anyone had the issue with emojis using 92 characters in a text? It makes one short text break into two.
If I add more than one, the extras only use two characters, but the first one always uses 92.
Is there any way to fix this?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
I don't have an answer for you, but what's the big deal about it splitting texts? Most people have smart phones these days, so it doesn't matter if it's 160 characters or 1,600 characters, it will appear all as one for both parties.
It doesnt appear as one from those whom I've talked to, but i just find it to be annoying.

Ok this maybe a silly question so tolerate the post.. ... One irritating thing about whatsapp is the last seen feature ( atleast in few cases )
I know there are a few apps which block this by blocking data access when u r in whatsapp....
Was looking @Logs in data folder and there was info about my last seen etc... There must be some code which enables whatsapp to access the time right ???
Is there any patch that can be installed to deny this?? ( no last seen feature) .....
