Hello all,
I've just faced a strange problem.
The USB sync had always worked well, but once I applyed a few reg tweaks (shown on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other) for WM5 and then ...
No more USB at all...No recognition, nothing
The only time the pc detected the phone was during a reset (a few seconds only)
I had even done a few shutdown/restart cycles still the same thing ... no USB at all.
So I did a rollback of the registry settings and ... my USB is back and working after a reset ...
Here are the settings I applied to the phone :
Disable 3gp (video) size limit
Add GPS settings icon
Add Lunar Calendar mode to Calendar
Disable charging over USB
Make WM5 ask where to install a program (1)
Make WM5 keep CAB files around after installing (1)
Show Wireless Today item
I'll try to sort out witch of them produced this problem and keep you posted.
Did anyone already met such a behaviour ?
Regards,
And the winner is ...
I sorted out the registry setting that locked out the USB
Add GPS settings icon
If you have a GPS device, you can add a GPS settings icon to your Start > Settings menu using:
HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Group = 2 (DWORD decimal)
HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\redirect <-- delete, or rename, this value
Note that '2' stands for the Connections tab, '1' is System and '0' would be Personal
But it will become "active" after doing the following things :
set the GPS program port to COM8
set the GPS connection port to COM7
and tick the automatic GPS management (recommended)
and then do a full reboot ...
then
No more USB,
UPDATE
To solve it, you'll have to rollback the settings
set the GPS program port to None
set the GPS connection port to None
and tick the automatic GPS management (recommended)
, remove the registry (to avoid another time the problem)
and reboot
Regards,
Fx.
added a note to the wiki - weird, no idea why that would affect USB.. haven't read any other reports from people who have enabled that GPS icon either.
That said - I don't see what the point of the GPS applet is, especially for those who don't -have- a GPS device to be used with their Wizard %)
Hi all!
I'd like to configure the std button to open contact and/or calendar in order to do some action (create new sms for example!) or open some app. when press and hold... is it possible?
Any simple app that make just that?
Markino: can you explain further? You want to open a particular contact, but in what screen? Contacts or calendar?
Or you want to press the contacts/calendar button and use it to send an sms etc?
V
Sorry, for my terrible English...
I'd like to press and hold the calender or contact button and associate the "press and hold" to do somethink like "create new sms"...
P.S: I'd like a easy way to create new sms.
VJPhoneTools will do this. There is another way, but they're both just as difficult.
You could also use the app on this forum, SmartKey or something, to give you a "new" menu on the Today screen, to create new sms etc. Very very good app.
V
Hi,
yes it's possible. And much more: http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
- Run Application
- Emulate keypress of Enter (Action), Esc and up/down/left/right keys
- Emulate standard application buttons
- "Virtual Application Button": Being specified as keypress action, "Virtual button" appears in standard Start -> Settings -> Buttons setup dialog and may be assigned here.
- Volume up/down
- Emulate Soft Keys
- Close (terminate) active application
- Switch next application
- Task Manager with charge level / memory summary info. Task manager may be operated with directional pad (up/down - choose application, left/action - switch to, right - terminate) or finger/stylus. You may apply filters to hide annoying applications (e.g. Phone)
- Ok/Close
- Start Menu
- Switch Display Off/On. Once you switch display OFF you may turn it back ON by the same keypress event or simply pressing Power On button.
- Switch BlueTooth Off/On
- Switch WiFi Off/On
- Vibration mode Off/On (WM5 only)
- Turn Off PDA
- Soft-Reset PDA (Soft Reset)
- Screen rotation
- Drop DialUp connections
- Disable "Power Off device if not used..."
- Switch to Today screen
- Clipboard operations: Select All / Copy / Cut / Paste
- Memory Monitor
- Battery Monitor/Uptime Forecast. It will show battery voltage/current/temperature if corresponding sensors are available
- Current Date/Time
- Pop-up menu with important AEBPlus actions. This feature is available in activated version only
- Any built-in action may be initiated by shortcut calling aebplus.exe with corresponding command line parameter

Anyone knows how to make the shortcut on the desktop for the "wireless stereo" for the BT headset to turn it on and off in WM6?
Right now I have to:
1. Open Comm Manager
2. Click settings
3. Choose Bluetooth
4. Choose headset from the list (in my case S705)
5. Tick/untick Wireless Stereo
6. Tap Save
7. Close "Settings"
8. Close Comm Manager
Is there a software which allows to "record" this kind of seqence of taps and assign an icon on the desktop to it? (using Pocket Plus)
Yes, I have tested btIO -- and unfortunately it does everything except what I really want - You can not control the "wireless stereo" ON/Off with it. - Under WM6 on Athena the Audio2BT turns on voice recognition, Audio2Device does nothing. Options below work ok - audio GWCC_on, and Radio GWCC off.
I have reported this problem to the creator of this handy utility...
In the meantime - any way to record macros? - I prefer to have an icon on the desktop doing just one thing, not to choose from the list - it is difficult to use the list in the car when I want to turn it on quickly.

You can use BTIO (search forum) for easily turning BT on/off, doing BT audio, etc. Give you a little icon the your phone that you can manipulate BT services with.
You can use
http://vitotechnology.com/en/products/buttonmapper.html Vito Button mapper to record macro's...
"ButtonMapper also features macros recording to assign a sequence of stylus taps and perform them all at once with a single press of a hardware button."
Moderators - I tried searching for a thread, I couldn't find a way to do this on a stock ROM without root. Post a link to the thread if there exists one please? Thanks in advance.
Everybody else: if you have an idea how to get this working, please help out. I've wracked my brains to no avail. If anyone has tried this out, let me know if this works for you as well.
Edit: I've added the XML file below
My Phone:
Nexus 4, stock ROM, no root.
Requirement:
Use an NFC tag to unlock my phone, ensure no one else can access the phone without the tag/password.
Status:
Work-in-progress, here's how.
Disclaimer:
Phone: I almost got locked out of my phone. I'm not responsible if you get locked out of your phone. Please use some caution (and don't set the time delay for less than 10-20s before you nail it)
Security: Till the lock engages, your phone is insecure. If this is not acceptable, please don't try this.
1. Install Tasker - device admin
2. Install Secure Settings - device admin
Tasker:
Tasks
1. Uncheck "Beginner Mode" under the UI tab in preferences
2. Create a variable: (I used, a variable name "%NFC")
3. Create a task - Set variable %NFC to 1 (I used "NFC YES")
4. Create a task with the following actions - Clear password using secure settings, disable keyguard using secure settings (I named mine "Phone Unlock")
5. Create a task with the following actions - wait for 10s (This is my problem area, keep this high or you will be locked out of your phone!!),Enter If condition (if %NFC=0) - set pin using secure settings, enable keyguard using secure settings, system lock (you can use the action built into tasker for this) - (I named mine "Phone Lock")
Contexts
1. Display on --> Run Task --> Phone Lock
2. Display off --> Run Task --> Phone unlock
Use an NFC Tag Writer to configure a tag (I used AnyTAG NFC Launcher) - Run a tasker task to change the tasker variable to 1 (Run "NFC YES" in my case)
You should be done.
This is how it should work - You turn your display on and place the tag under your phone. This will make Tasker change your variable "%NFC" to 1. As long as your variable value is not "0", your phone will remain unlocked. If you do not bring your tag close to your phone, your phone will lock after (10s or 20 or however long you've set the timer)
The Problem:
This works like a charm if I use the NFC tag every single time (i.e. never allow my screen to lock). If I don't use the tag even once, the tag doesn't get read, the variable doesn't change, my phone locks after the time expires.
If anyone can help me with this, that would be great!
Thanks in advance
I don't know if you've figured this out yet or not, but you might want to try having it check if NFC = 1, if it doesn't, re-enable the keyguard / pin and lock / unlock the screen so it shows up. This would make it so that if you used NFC, it would stay open, but if you didn't, you would still be able to unlock your phone with the pin.
You might have to throw a few ms of wait time in there somewhere for it to pick up on the setting changes before locking / unlocking or something.
Just an idea. I'll try it out later if I have time.
