[Q] Is it safe to remove stock "Email.apk" from phone - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

So my Galaxy Y informs me with that annoying popup (and in the notification dropdown) saying that it's Internal Storage is getting low, I already uninstalled other bloatwares like the Dual Clock app but the notification still stays there.
When I'm looking for another bloatwares -that are installed as system apps- to uninstall, my eyes got stuck at the "Email" (Email.apk) app. It eats 5 MB of my Internal Phone storage and I'm going to remove it, but some guys here (in XDA Forums, of course) said that it's not safe to uninstall this (like on this thread), while some other guys said it's safe to remove (like here and here, I got those links from XDAForums user, forgot their usernames though)
So, hey guys, have anybody of you ever tried to remove this Email.apk? Does uninstalling it will break something? I really need to get answer from people who have experience with this so I can do this with no doubts and worries, thanks!

When I first tried to get my stock rom deodexed, I did remove that email.apk and nothing went wrong with it.
I suggest that if your guts says no, it be best if you just disable it with titanium backup or the like.

Oh yeah it's super safe.I also remove unecessary apps after flashing stock.

Disabling wont solve his problem for low memory.
@op. You can remove that app and also maps, gtalk, gmail, software update etc. without problem.

Ahh well, pretty enough for me to be sure that this app is safe to be uninstalled, thanks guys! (And check your Thanks meter)

Afaik, those files are located on a seperate partition thus not affecting your internal space.

Y man...
You could have used multi quote.
Your device must be rooted.
Then you can use simple app like link2sd or any file explorer like root explorer/es file maneger to remove those apps

Be reminded that ull need root....

Nexus One Root/unroot and space pls help

Ok fellas! Im new to this world of android just bought a newsu one last night Its used and rooted. I installed bunch of apps and after a bit it gave me an alert of low space/memory. Never had this with my x10 . so i was wondering may be its cus o the root if yes? Do u recmnd unrooting to clear space? And in case of unrooting any help /guide would be much appreciated.
Also i saw the update alert ast night fo 2.2.1 but when i tried to update it it wa stuck on a black screen with a android(green guy) and a exclamation mark. so i r/s the phone again and ignore the update anyhelp. please...
Thanks a bunch.
The ROM would effect the lack of space, but having root shouldn't. It more likely the apps though.
Just try moving some apps to your SD (menu> settings> applications> manage applications... sort by size [menu key], then select an app. In each app there's an option to move to SD. Some will move, some won't)
There's plenty of discussions on the update, but it's probably failing because you're not stock...

So what should i do to get the update ..get the phone unroot??
First, decide if you want the update, or if you want a custom ROM...
I've not tried the update, so I can't make any recommendations.

Both of them were awesome, right now I have the mdaco one, but the there are few problems.
*. Showed still on 2.1 in setting.
*. GPS isn't locking.
*. Bluetooth isnt working.
*. When Im trying to lock the phone by pressing the power button it locks but wont go to sleep(back light is still on).
*. Power button won't work if i try to shutdown/put phone on vibrate/airplane mode/.
so far these are the problems im facing.
Does anyone nows a better stable Sense ROM?? Please advise.. Thanks.

[Q] Plain & Pure Gingerbread for Galaxy S

Hi All,
I tried to find a topic for this but couldnt. if you have seen this thing being discussed before, please just guide me there.
Ok, here's the thing:
I have a samsung Galaxy S I9000. I want to flash a Pure, Unmodified, untouched, plain gingerbread onto it. i dont want any of the samsung applications, modifications or anything by samsung. the same concept that a Motorola Xoom is using. no additional modification to whatever google gave out.
1. It it possible?
2. If so, which ROM will do the trick?
Many thanks in Advance

Closest what you can get is CM7 I guess? (am using it too) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946
Or there was something about SUPERAOSP rom >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119075&highlight=SUPERAOSP which I dont know
Yep, CM7 is closest to stock-Android, so you should choose this ROM.

basically i want the simplest ROM with the minimum preloaded functions. i will install whatever i want myself.
Why don't you install a stock gb of any kind, get titanium from market, then manually uninstall whatever you don't like, ect Sams bloat wares

I guess because it wont be AOSP (kinda not even close)? Also cuz samsung does not just install bloatware(amongst other stuffs), but also unistalls/disables some functionality?
Just me guessing there
Touchwiz is 'hidden' deeper in system too. And the CM7-crew wants to get rid of this and just use stock-Android and CM7-features. In ny opininon it's the best ROM of all.

Installing a non-stock OS such as this means you must install apps for operating the Camera, Video, Email, and even for accessing the external SD card, correct?

Did you applied your home CSC after flash, and/or wiped data/cache?
Well, I'm converting (nowadays by SplitFUS2) the Samsung files without any modification.
But! For wipe packs I'm including the userdata.img file, which was extracted from an old multi-files pack, named "S5360XXKI6_bysamsdroid.rar". This pack may be considered as insecure, and theoretically might have some hidden "inappropriate" things which I'm not aware , but if it's true then there were hundreds of complaints according to this SMS, I think...
Have You used some Indian custom ROMs in the past maybe?
Please ask questions here. Thanks
-Techno
Hi,
I flashed: S5360_XXLE1_OXXLE1_XXLE1_wipe_by_SplitFUS2
Using the included CSC.
No other ROMs tried yet.
Greetings.

Your phone has a Rootkit/Virus, firstly download AVG from Google Play and open it and scan. If any infections found remove them. Now if that doesn't stop it then flash your phone with Creeds Room v3.2 which you can find in the Galaxy Y Dev section. Hope this helps you.

you really believe in antivirus apps for android?
just try to look at permissions on the apps on your phone try to find ones that has
"Enable services that cost you money"
or find a permission finder app on google play
Have you checked your third party sms app? -if you do have a third party sms app, you should! Check for any auto-send or auto-reply sms.
Also . . .
There are ways to send sms with commands depending on carrier. Like in philippines there is this fcuking sms that you send to any number, once they open it, your phone will hang and makes your sms permanent -no way of deleting it and it's not curse of silence remote vulnerability.
-perhaps someone sent you an sms with a code.
SMS these days are more like a html page, where you can embed stuff.
I suggest you do full flash -unless you want to spend your free time investigating on what's happening to your phone.
-just saying, I may be wrong. Hahaha
looks like its a malware from an app you downloaded from a black market (maybe) and installed on your phone. google reported that they too removed some apps from their own google play store because of these types of malwares. one example was another angrybird game which was not official ... i read it from a security site.
what i would suggest is for you to do a clean factory reset, then clean flash of any official stock rom. next time be careful on the apps you install on your phone.

it wouldnt hurt using one, win viruses are different from linux malwares but they do exist on android (linux). android is a target for many hackers and "skids" because of its big userbase and it is opensource.
The problem of the SMS comes from installing a custom ROM that is from India and the rom is based on an old stock rom, like Creeds, because +91 is from india
I tried Creeds Rom - same thing.
sending SMS again.
apps:
* no black market tools
* no autosending sms tools
Going back to stock rom.
Without installing any apps.
and check again.
is there a pssibility to trace sms?

If you just want to get rid of bloatware install any type of root explorer (many would suggest titanium backup) and delete the app from your system app folder.
As for a custom rom there are plenty to choose from just make sure you have a custom recovery and make a back up then flash away.
Oh and also I believe this should be in Q&A

Download titanium backup & make a backup first of all ur files before u start deleting them through titanium backup so incase u deleted a wrong app u can easily restore it back. When u want to delete thru titanium backup go to the back/restore and click on app to delete or freeze.

Rooting your phone means everything and anything you want to do with it you can do. From tweaks to themes. Make your phone look and do exactly how you want it to .
Throw it out a window and buy yourself another one. Repeat the process.

Be brave, but remember to be smart! Nandroids are awesome, Save your a$$, and only take a few minutes... I recommend trying out several roms in a row, starting fresh on all of them knowing you can go straight back to where you are now with a Nandroid backup from recovery. You'll find something you like and it'll be all yours! Have fun and good luck oh yeah, after you find a rom you like, experiment with custom kernels... I like ktoonsez a lot, but some swear by faux. U gotta try and find ones you like.
Edit: one more thing, when you're flashing a rom, sometimes it takes longer than you expected... And it's hard to be patient... But things will always be OK if you're patient enough. Worst case scenario if something happens, which it rarely does, you simply Odin back to stock and start over again

Remove Hangouts?

I just got a Canadian Galaxy S4, I've already rooted, installed custom recovory, installed Titanium Backup and removed a bunch of other useless crap.
I'd like to remove Hangouts but I remeber from the I had my Galaxy S and S2 it would mess the phone up if I removed Google Talk. I know Hangouts replaced Talk so can I safely remove this?
I've never had problems removing it. Back it up first. If it causes issues, restore it.
