[Q] Rooted my S4, wondering what now? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Here's what i want to do now:
1) I know i would like to remove some of the apps i do not use (bacon reader, flipbook, etc...)
2) Install a sweet custom rom
3) anything else i should know about??
How do i do it? sorry for the noob-ness....

If you just want to get rid of bloatware install any type of root explorer (many would suggest titanium backup) and delete the app from your system app folder.
As for a custom rom there are plenty to choose from just make sure you have a custom recovery and make a back up then flash away.
Oh and also I believe this should be in Q&A

I have downloaded "Explorer+ File Manager". I just cannot find the apps i want to uninstall.
I have also installed rom manager, but how do i find roms??

Just start here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303917

Download titanium backup & make a backup first of all ur files before u start deleting them through titanium backup so incase u deleted a wrong app u can easily restore it back. When u want to delete thru titanium backup go to the back/restore and click on app to delete or freeze.

Rooting your phone means everything and anything you want to do with it you can do. From tweaks to themes. Make your phone look and do exactly how you want it to .

Throw it out a window and buy yourself another one. Repeat the process.

Be brave, but remember to be smart! Nandroids are awesome, Save your a$$, and only take a few minutes... I recommend trying out several roms in a row, starting fresh on all of them knowing you can go straight back to where you are now with a Nandroid backup from recovery. You'll find something you like and it'll be all yours! Have fun and good luck oh yeah, after you find a rom you like, experiment with custom kernels... I like ktoonsez a lot, but some swear by faux. U gotta try and find ones you like.
Edit: one more thing, when you're flashing a rom, sometimes it takes longer than you expected... And it's hard to be patient... But things will always be OK if you're patient enough. Worst case scenario if something happens, which it rarely does, you simply Odin back to stock and start over again

I've found that stock rom rooted is perfect. Download rom toolbox by jrummy and freeze stuff you don't want. Deleting it outright is dangerous. My only reason for rooting was an ad blocker. Have fun!

Someone please answer this, it's been a big problem...

This has been a real concern since the first day I got my phone, someone please answer this. If I want to switch from a non sense build to a sense build is there anyway I can backup or restore all my application data? Because I did so much I don't wanna lose it...

Would have made more sense if you had titled your topic with the question really. Titles are meant to be descriptive and makes searching topic titles better for people who are trying to aks same question as it narrows down search results.
It depends on if you are using a SD or a NAND build.
If its a SD build then you simply copy your data.img file over to new build. If its NAND then you still have thsi option if its one that uses a data.img but you can also use a app like Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro etc or maybe clockwork recovery I think, not sure about last as I haven't tried it yet.
well i think it is kind of impossible to change from a nonesense to sense but if you want to back up your applications mybackup pro does it for you
but there is a little problem that every time i tried this i got the eror "cannot unzip the package"
otherwise it should work
Titanium backup is the most advanced backup app in my opinion, and it's from XDA memeber. Be careful about what you restore nonetheless, since system apps must not be replaced by those from other builds whose version is different.

This is incorrect. They will not work going from non sense to sense, and usually won't work going from builds by different chefs, sense or not. Titanium backup is the best way to go regardless of build type

As above 2 posts...
Titanium Backup is great, but one word of advice...
It's worth the pennies for the paid version. Why? With the free version, when you do a restore of your apps you have to confirm every installation with a button click, and then again when it's done. That can be VERY boring! (Obviously depends how many apps you're restoring.)
With the paid version you can just click "restore apps & data" and it does it all for you, with no further intervention needed.
Alright, cool. I think i got the info i needed. Thanks guys

[Q] HTC Evo Shift rooted Roms?!?!?

I cant seem to find a decent rom for my newly rooted evo shift. was wondering if anyone has found a good solution.. i saw on other forums we have NFX's rom and another stock rom( which is mis-labled as a rom) I would just like a rooted rom with all of sprints bloatware removed.. Nothing too facny, maybe even with OC, let me know what you guys find!
Why don't you remove the bloatware yourself? Then flash bcnice's OC kernel.
^ Shift Faced
The easiest way for you to remove the bloatware would be done using titanium backup. Its available in the market, I recommend the pro version.
powered by the tears of a million orphaned alpacas...
i am running bcnices Desire Z port, along with his kernel. The desire z rom offers ALOT more than the shift rom. it still has the bloatware (anyone know how to remove that?) but its much nicer.

Buy and use Titanium Backup, or open the rom with winzip (Don't extract) and remove the apk's before installing the rom.
Correct me if I'm wrong...but hasn't it been said that removing the bloat completely isn't safe and that the better solution is to rename the .apk files?? I don't remember the exact method of doing so nor do I recall what we were to rename the files but I do recall seeing something to that extent.
That was in the Epic forum though as well if that makes a difference.

Renaming the files would do nothing. You can remove the bloatware with no issues.
how do you use titanium backup to remove apps? I got all of them almost gone except like sprint zone and nfl and stuff like that cuz i cant find the apk listed..

copy your sd card files over to pc which includes all your backup of titanium onit, once you have flashed rom, formatted sd etc and new rom is installed get titanium backup back off the market copy your sd files back and then restore but if you are changing roms completely and not doing an update id recommend just doing a back up of your apps because if you restore over your existing settings it may corrupt the rom (NOT TO SURE NOT TRIED IT MYSELF)
Very thanks for all good roms & answers.can you help me too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16145088#post16145088

Look at the apk's in the Gapps zip so you know what's being installed, many are NOT included since they're available on Play. This is normal.

They are not included in cm's gapps. Download them from play store...
Skickat från min Nexus 4
after you flash cm10
if you have playstore then just download the apps your missing thru the play store
if you dont understand what people are telling you
i suggest you go back and re read the instructions on how to flash a rom
Why wouldn't they include them? Thats stupid (in my opinion)... now I have to figure out what apps came stock on my phone- and how do I delete some of the apps that came installed with CM10.1?

Because they're available on Play, so most "official" gapps packages don't include them.
They don't come with the ROM because CM doesn't want to get sued by Google, and they're not part of AOSP.

If you think it is "stupid" dont use cm10 then and go find another rom.
is it really that hard to redownload the apps? or just make a damn backup an restore it
and either uninstall the apps. or use titanium backup to uninstall any app you want.
i would say search XDA for your answers, before this turns into 20 questions.

Just wondering if it's possible to somehow upload all my settings/mods/apps/etc. that are on top of the deodexed MF9 ROM. This is a tricky request. I am not sure you can do what you want but I have to sit down and think about it some more. But my initial thoughts are you can't the way you are requesting, if I am understanding you correctly. The way I understand what you are asking is that you want to make a clone of your phone for other people to install. You want all the apps you have installed. All of your settings, backgrounds and etc... The problem is that most of the stuff you want resides in data. And if you clone the data partition you are going to give people access to sensitive information. About the best you can do is build a Rom with the specific apps you want in it with the theme and other settings you like. It won't be a "clone" of what you are using now but will be the closest you can get without giving people too much.

Damn! Yeah that's what I thought when the other dude said to put a flashable zip of my backup. But is there a way to wipe the data? And maybe not have ALL my apps, but all of the *key* ones. That'd be cool if I could make a TWRP backup, but then somehow reset/wipe the data so not all of my pics/info/etc. are on it, ya know.
And I don't know how to make a ROM, hence why I just wanted to share my settings and what-not with everyone!

Data is data so you can't wipe the data without wiping what you want to share. The apps are pretty easy unless you are trying to share paid apps and if so forget about it. You could push all of the apps you want to the /system/app folder using a root explorer. Then you could do a backup of just the system only. And that would give you all of your mods, apps etc but without any of the data and settings.
I did notice that Philz, think that is right, CWM has an option to make a flashable zip from recovery. I have not looked into it at all but you might do some research on that to see if that is an option. I doubt it will get the data items for you though.
