[Q] HTC Evo Shift rooted Roms?!?!? - EVO Shift 4G General

I cant seem to find a decent rom for my newly rooted evo shift. was wondering if anyone has found a good solution.. i saw on other forums we have NFX's rom and another stock rom( which is mis-labled as a rom) I would just like a rooted rom with all of sprints bloatware removed.. Nothing too facny, maybe even with OC, let me know what you guys find!

Why don't you remove the bloatware yourself? Then flash bcnice's OC kernel.
^ Shift Faced

The easiest way for you to remove the bloatware would be done using titanium backup. Its available in the market, I recommend the pro version.
powered by the tears of a million orphaned alpacas...

i am running bcnices Desire Z port, along with his kernel. The desire z rom offers ALOT more than the shift rom. it still has the bloatware (anyone know how to remove that?) but its much nicer.

Buy and use Titanium Backup, or open the rom with winzip (Don't extract) and remove the apk's before installing the rom.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but hasn't it been said that removing the bloat completely isn't safe and that the better solution is to rename the .apk files?? I don't remember the exact method of doing so nor do I recall what we were to rename the files but I do recall seeing something to that extent.
That was in the Epic forum though as well if that makes a difference.

Renaming the files would do nothing. You can remove the bloatware with no issues.

how do you use titanium backup to remove apps? I got all of them almost gone except like sprint zone and nfl and stuff like that cuz i cant find the apk listed..

Oh and I did do a nandroid backup before I deleted it thanks in advance

If you did a nand backup, then just restore it.
Thanks man I really appreciate it. But I've got another question non related about Roms can anybody recommend a good stock rom that still has hdmi and 4g I liked cm6 but it is clearly lacking these features

For a great stock based ROM, I recommend Ava's z1 or MikFroyo. If you don't want much Sense in your phone, go with VaelPak 3.0 for sure. It rocks and runs with less of HTC's bloat than any other ROM I have ran.
Also, in the future, if you want to delete apk's from the system for whatever reason, just rename them with a file explorer like Root Explorer. Just navigate to /system/app and locate the apk, like htclockscreen.apk and rename it to something like htclockscreen.apk.old. That will make it disappear until you decide you want it back, then you can just rename it back, and you're good to go. That will work with just about any app you don't want around any more. Plus it has the benefit of being easily reversible if there are problems associated with it's removal.
Thank man life saver!

Easy root access for (nand) HD builds

Here's a very easy way to gain root access to your Nand HD builds. Some have mentioned something called z4root from the market but every time i put that in search it couldn't find it. What i DID find was an app called Super Manager that works like a charm and has many functions such as task manager, apk manager, file explorer, and app back up. What you want to do first is go to settings(where you can access just about anything..shake capture, full screen mode, font size..etc.)then go to 'enable root function'. After that, you'll be able to go into root explorer..and enjoy.
If you can't find them on the market, you can always find them HERE
hey thanks lude. that page must have eluded me cause i had no idea it existed..probably because i never really checked the android only pages. i usually hovered around the hd2 android pages.anyways,thanks.i have one question for you..i hear allot about busybox but i'm not exactly sure what it is..or the magic behind it. could you explain?

Basically it gives you additional unix/linux commands so you can deploy different tasks at the root level. Similarly, it's like having a registry editor in windows for you to slice and dice around.
i cant remove apps from system
but titanium backup have root right
is this will help ?

I'm gonna give it a shot and report my findings then. Thanks.
Edit: I've gotta say this is definitely worth a go. Don't know if everything works as described, (such as app backup) but I'm definitely looking at my system files. I tried copying the miui music app into /system/app directory but it said not enough free space. Strange, but I will play with it some more tomorrow. Thanks for the find!

Best Custom ROM to flash?

Hey guys,
Lately the Stock ROM is annoying me, I'm planning on flashing it to a custom ROM - I don't see gingerbread anywhere so I thought why not !
Also, my tab was rooted until something happened and I had to reset it to factory settings, most of the apps (that need root access) work, but titanium backup claims it fails to achieve root.
So Should I re root my tab before flashing a custom ROM?
and of course the question I asked in the title - what would you'll recommend for a custom rom on a GSM tab (I was thinkin overcome)
Cheers
Jackie

launch superuser and remove teh titanium entry and next time you load it will ask for su rights again.

I second that. Alterbridge is a first class developer.
And I really miss Rotohammer too.
Thank you very much everyone, I'm thinking I'll get rid of unwanted stuff on my internal SD before I start it - as I found out that conversion to ext4 takes a while - so I'll save time that way also - hopefully if time permits, I'll be flashing my tab soon
Also does anyone know if i could some how get the gingerbread framework to work with the galaxy tab on overcome?

Well its a good idea. Am empty SD card conversion takes 2 minutes. Full one can take upto 20 LOL. Not that I encourage everyone to wipe their cards. I flashed overcome when my tab was fairly new so I had no problems wiping it.
sweet, thanks for the info, also when the ext4 is being converted, is there a progress bar or status? I get paranoid at times when I don't see any progress

Yes you can backup your apk files with Root Explorer, but it will not have your apk data [i.e. app data link to the Market] with the backup, but would with Titanium Backup.

Sorry guys maybe I should of explained a bit more I'm looking to buy some apps up to now only used free 1s but with flash different roms sometimes you need to full wipe and don't quite no how that would work after buying an app then wiping my phone
I assume (and may be wrong) that when I download an app from the market it downloads the apk file what I would like to do is then use root explorer to move the apk files to M/S then back them up to pc for safe keeps or does it not work like that and I just sound like a tool lol
If it is possible then where are the downloaded apks?
I don't want to use titanium backup as some people report problems while using the ARHD performance patch plus was under the impression that backing up apps then sometimes they course problems when installing on different base ie 2.2 to 2.3(gb) which hopefully won't be.to long away
Many thanks again

1, I used titanium backup in both froyo and gingerbread and have no problem. And trust me, titanium backup is extremely useful when it comes to flashing a new ROM that requires full wipe.
2,FYI, your downloaded apps are stored in /data/apps , copy them with root explorer.

That would happen if someone using Titanium were to choose Backup all use apps + system data, then after installing a different ROM using Titanium to restore the apps + system data, which of course would be form the other ROM, which would:-

[Q] Plain & Pure Gingerbread for Galaxy S

Hi All,
I tried to find a topic for this but couldnt. if you have seen this thing being discussed before, please just guide me there.
Ok, here's the thing:
I have a samsung Galaxy S I9000. I want to flash a Pure, Unmodified, untouched, plain gingerbread onto it. i dont want any of the samsung applications, modifications or anything by samsung. the same concept that a Motorola Xoom is using. no additional modification to whatever google gave out.
1. It it possible?
2. If so, which ROM will do the trick?
Many thanks in Advance

Closest what you can get is CM7 I guess? (am using it too) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946
Or there was something about SUPERAOSP rom >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119075&highlight=SUPERAOSP which I dont know
Yep, CM7 is closest to stock-Android, so you should choose this ROM.

I guess because it wont be AOSP (kinda not even close)? Also cuz samsung does not just install bloatware(amongst other stuffs), but also unistalls/disables some functionality?
Just me guessing there
Touchwiz is 'hidden' deeper in system too. And the CM7-crew wants to get rid of this and just use stock-Android and CM7-features. In ny opininon it's the best ROM of all.

Installing a non-stock OS such as this means you must install apps for operating the Camera, Video, Email, and even for accessing the external SD card, correct?
