Is there an app which enables to use an external display es extended display and not just mirror the nexus screen on the monitor? Looks really stupid to have a soft keyboard on the big display displayed and not just on the nexus 4 screen

I was wondering if any if you guys tried setting up the Nexus 7 for a secondary monitor?
I was looking at iDisplay, Screen Slider, but was open to any other alternatives.
My N7 has the same screen resolution as my N4 (almost), but because of the physical size of the N4 screen it's set up as a small screen/phone. This also means I can't get so many icons & widgets on a home screen etc.
1. Is there an easy way to use the standard ROM and launcher in what I guess would be 'bigger screen' (tablet?) mode? I presume as this is done on the N7, everything will scale properly and, of course icons, fonts etc will all look smaller on the screen... I'm not necessarily wanting tablet mode - I really just want to squeeze more on each home screen and the pixels available should make it as sharp as the screen on my N7....
2. Will making this tweak stop automatic OTA OS updates from Google?
3. Any gotchas to doing this (other than maybe using my glasses more often)?
1 : Use a lower DPI change?
2 : Yes.
3 : Yeah why not just use glasses.

Try Paranoid Android. It does that with ease

Or try CyanogenMod 10.1 RC3
Works fine
The camera and YouTube app have a very nice feature that they eliminate the navbar so you could get the entire screen real estate, but when you touch the screen, the navbar immediately comes back.
This could be very handy if applicable to gps navigation apps and other apps. Is there a way to do this?
I wish if it could do this in games also

This is not the same. When you touch the screen it doesn't come back. It also be programmed to specific apps only.

Do face that many apps goes beyong tv screen size, faceing the control tabs are shown not in full range.
In xbmc can change it manully, but maybe this can be somehow changed/configured?
Or each app developer have to add this functionaly to his app?
The example are in attachment
It has to do with your TV not the nexus player. Lookin your settings for a screen size, yours is probably set on 16:9. Find the option where it says screen fit or something
Thanks a lot, you are genius!

I am having this same issue with my NP. I think it's called overscanning. I have found the button to change the screen size on my TV remote, but when I am in an hdmi input on my TV it only gives me 2 screen size settings. Wide, and zoom, which both do not fit to the screen. If I change the input to anything, like TV, I have about 5 different options then. Anybody know of a way to fix this?
I had a same issue with my panasonic TV...just try to look into menu-picture-advanced and disable 16:9 overscan
Just looked at the manual for my TV. Looks like if I have any HD input the only options the TV will give me are normal (which is wide), or zoom which is much worse. Normal cuts off probably about an inch on the sides. Navigating through some apps is almost impossible, like es Explorer.
It looks like I am at a loss. Because of the TV. I am using using a 50 inch Vizio p50 plasma TV.

I'm also at a loss. My Samsung Plasma doesn't have the screen fit or just fit setting (apparently they added it to the 2007 model). Wonder how Kodi does it and if it could be made into an app or something. I might look into seeing if I can modify the build.prop. Found this thread: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=720
Here, try the method using Nova Launcher in this post:

Here's something I stumbled on that I haven't seen mentioned... Found it very helpful.....
Problem: On my Samsung HDTV set, I found that many apps (particularly Chrome) were getting key parts of their screens cut off by overscan. But I couldn't find a way to set the overscan on my HDTV or in the Nexus Player.
Solution: While I was playing around with Nova Launcher on the Nexus Player, I found a way to launch something called "Overscan Calibrator" which fixed the issue!
Here's how I did it:
(1) Install Sideload Launcher (so you can launch Nova Launcher)
(2) Sideload Nova Launcher
(3) Use Sideload Launcher to launch Nova Launcher
(4) In Nova Launcher, long click on the screen to bring up the "Add to Homescreen" menu
(5) Shortcuts -> Activities
(6) Scroll down to find "Overscan Calibrator"
(7) Click on it to open the selection and click on the revealed item to add it to the home screen
(8) Now launch "Overscan Calibrator" and adjust the screen so that then entire screen is visible
Then... your entire Chrome screen will be visible !
