[Q] Changing screen size on NP - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do face that many apps goes beyong tv screen size, faceing the control tabs are shown not in full range.
In xbmc can change it manully, but maybe this can be somehow changed/configured?
Or each app developer have to add this functionaly to his app?
The example are in attachment

It has to do with your TV not the nexus player. Lookin your settings for a screen size, yours is probably set on 16:9. Find the option where it says screen fit or something

Thanks a lot, you are genius!

I am having this same issue with my NP. I think it's called overscanning. I have found the button to change the screen size on my TV remote, but when I am in an hdmi input on my TV it only gives me 2 screen size settings. Wide, and zoom, which both do not fit to the screen. If I change the input to anything, like TV, I have about 5 different options then. Anybody know of a way to fix this?

I had a same issue with my panasonic TV...just try to look into menu-picture-advanced and disable 16:9 overscan

Just looked at the manual for my TV. Looks like if I have any HD input the only options the TV will give me are normal (which is wide), or zoom which is much worse. Normal cuts off probably about an inch on the sides. Navigating through some apps is almost impossible, like es Explorer.
It looks like I am at a loss. Because of the TV. I am using using a 50 inch Vizio p50 plasma TV.

I'm also at a loss. My Samsung Plasma doesn't have the screen fit or just fit setting (apparently they added it to the 2007 model). Wonder how Kodi does it and if it could be made into an app or something. I might look into seeing if I can modify the build.prop. Found this thread: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=720

Here, try the method using Nova Launcher in this post:

Here's something I stumbled on that I haven't seen mentioned... Found it very helpful.....
Problem: On my Samsung HDTV set, I found that many apps (particularly Chrome) were getting key parts of their screens cut off by overscan. But I couldn't find a way to set the overscan on my HDTV or in the Nexus Player.
Solution: While I was playing around with Nova Launcher on the Nexus Player, I found a way to launch something called "Overscan Calibrator" which fixed the issue!
Here's how I did it:
(1) Install Sideload Launcher (so you can launch Nova Launcher)
(2) Sideload Nova Launcher
(3) Use Sideload Launcher to launch Nova Launcher
(4) In Nova Launcher, long click on the screen to bring up the "Add to Homescreen" menu
(5) Shortcuts -> Activities
(6) Scroll down to find "Overscan Calibrator"
(7) Click on it to open the selection and click on the revealed item to add it to the home screen
(8) Now launch "Overscan Calibrator" and adjust the screen so that then entire screen is visible
Then... your entire Chrome screen will be visible !

[Q]CM7 Wallpaper display issue

I have been happily running CM 7.0.3 (with the default ADW launcher) for a month now and it was only now I thought about tempering with the wallpapers (hah !). Anyways, whenever I load a 1200 x 1024 wallpaper, it really zooms out in portrait and appears with two black stripes in the Landscape mode. Have gone through all kinds of solutions but to no avail namely:
- Apps like "Wallpaper set and save", Flickie etc. - all of them suffer with the same issue
- Restarted 5-6 times
- Saved the 1200 x 1024 .png files in EMMC / My Files / Wallpaper but doesn't help since CM7.0.3 doesn't have a "Home Launcher" or Settings > Home > Set Wallpaper or a direct Homescreen "Wallpaper Chooser" app like my Samsung Galaxy Pro for example.
Will be grateful if anybody can help me out - am also surprised I did not find this exact problem mentioned in the forums at all - I can't be that unique !
Thanks,
Ranjan
You can't just long press the home screen > Wallpapers > Select wallpaper from " " ?
Worked on every Android device I have owned, including my Nook Color. Perfect wallpaper size would be 600x1024.

No, CM7.0.3 doesn't give an option to "Select Wallpaper from"...Did you have a CM Nook color or stock-rooted one ? Wallpaper size I am sure of 1200x1024 works the best - have gone through multiple posts on this forum and others .

Running CM7 nightlies. Have been since they were first released. Been setting wallpapers the same way for months now, even on regular android devices. It does give that option when you are holding down your finger on a blank spot on the home screen. It has too.

That sounds like the behavior of the built-in gallery app. At some point when you set your wallpaper are you selecting Gallery? Or is Gallery the only picture viewer on your device?
QuickPic works a lot better for portrait mode, it lets you adjust the cropping. Iirc, it doesn't work well for landscape, because it puts in the black bars. Wallpaper Wizardrii is a little fiddly, but otherwise works well with both portrait and landscape.
This problem has been mentioned in the forums atleast once. I know because I asked it. lol No worries though its probably not tagged. Anyways like the poster above said Quick Pick does a much better job.

Dunno why its missing on my device, it only gives me option to set "Cyanogenmod Wallpapers" / "Gallery" / "Live Wallpapers" - both Gallery and Cyanogenmod suffer from the issue I laid out above.
@akaCat, IFLATLINEI: Thanks for the help, doesnt help me though , want good landscape display. I think the issue is somehow the Wallpaper is not scrolling in portrait mode as well (it used to earlier), even though the option is enabled in the ADW launcher settings. Since it is not scrolling it is essentially showing a 1 portrait page image which it rotates in landscape and hence the black screen. I wish this could be resolved !!
Ok I'm going to bring this one back because the same is happining to me now. It worked before! Is there a definitive fix for this anywhere? I see a lot of pleas for help but no answer???????
I started using the free app in the market: Wallpaper Set & Save. Goes in at the correct aspect ratio and resolution (assuming your wallpaper file is correct ahead of time and saved in png format).

set full size wallpaper??

Just curious if anyone has had a issue setting full sized wallpapers? i downloaded a few 2560x1600 wallpapers and the damn thing keeps making me crop them.. im using apex launcher and set to non scrolling wallpapers.. thanks guys
Ok.. i know i must be missing something easy. has anyone actually gotten any 2560x1600 wallpapers to work? Everyone i have tried only shows me about 1/4 of the picture...
May seem like a dumb question, but you are increasing the size of the crop box by dragging on the corners/sides, correct?
Wouldn't make any sense to FORCE us to zoom in on an image that is compatible with the device's resolution creating a less sharp background.
Try making the image 2560 × 2560 somehow. It needs to account for the orientation.

wallpaper Fix!!
Download the app: "Simple Image Wallpaper". It will not install in the app drawer but to access it click and hold on your main desktop screen, select "Live Wallpaper", then select "Simple Image Wallpaper". Then click on settings and it will not crop any of those high res images that you use. Also, another benefit is you can use 2 different kinds of wallpaper if you choose; One for landscape and one that changes when put in Portrait mode.

[Q] ADT-1 overscan?

My display runs over the edge, and I can not see content at the very bottom or left/right. is there a way to fix the overscan? I no longer see the "Display" settings with the latest OS.
Adjust the display with your TV remote it's the only way then restart your adt

The above advice to adjust you TV is completely wrong. To correct the overscan problem download this app from the playstore.
Activity Launcher from Adam Szalkowski
Launch it and scroll down until you find overscan calibration, run the program and fix the overscan problem.

Picture goes out of TVs area of view

Nexus Player on Samsung 50" UHD TV from lasta year and all menus go over the screen. Is there any way to calibrate viewable area on Nexus Player? Mike in many video games when you first starttasi them.
Have you tried the screen calibration settings? There's an app that has a shortcut to it here some where
No sure if it has it in stock, but CM12.1 has a overscan slider so you can shrink it to fit.

3rd party applications comparability

Hello
I was very much interested in LG G6 and have even ordered it once in eBay yesterday and cancelled it after getting to know one information none of the reviewers have pointed it out.
I have heard that most of the 3rd party applications would show black border even in portrait mode because of the aspect ratio difference.
But I was also been told that applications would automatically utilise the entire screen at least in portrait mode.
I have also heard that LG provided scaling function is not of great help as well.
I am from India and I am not sure how much time it would take for the developers here to update their application for a new screen aspect ratio.
Please provide your valuable inputs.
I am upgrading from Nexus 5x
This model released just 4 months ago so expect little delay with specific apps but LG's scaling works fairly well in standard apps, I would say stick with ur current phone for few months.
Thanks for your kind reply.
I am using the mobile phone mostly for applications and in portrait mode itself and would watch YouTube videos also.
I am not using the mobile phone for gaming.
Can you please post some photos of the scaled applications ?
I heard that the navigation bar would be in black colour even when an application scaled.
Are all Google applications and prominent 3rd party applications support the 18:9 aspect ratio?
yes the navigation bar does turn black but it will be hidden under the app your are using in full screen and pull down on noti panel will bring back the navi buttons, so if u watch YouTube videos after scaling u won't see any back bar while in full screen.

You mean I won't see black borders while youtubing in fullscreen?
yes but only if the content is in 18:9 format, lets say if u resize YouTube app and the video is also coded in 18:9 format then the bar will be hidden, at least that's my experience on couple of occasions so far.
