When you plug it in via usb does it do the same thing?
And when on the orb, what % are you? I found that it can do what you describe is when you are btw 95-98% because the orb charges and tops off and stops at 100 and wont start up until you hit 95 or below.

trying now plugged into my pc. still random. switches between charging and discharging quickly and constantly. i feel like earlier this week this wasnt a problem. earlier on ac power, it went from 100% to 89% while sitting on the orb (properly). charges fine with screen off still at least, just kind of random with screen on

Anyone having charging issues?

A friend of mine just picked up a Droid X today and he's having problems.
First, the charger it came with doesn't appear to charge, there is no charging indicator light.
I attempted to use a number of USB chargers, the first from my HTC Hero, another from an iPad, and a third is a cheap Chinese AC charger with a USB port that I picked up for my EVO.
The only charger that turns on the green light on the top is the cheap Chinese one.
If I plug it into my computer, I can also get the green light to come on, but it doesn't appear to be charging it. When the phone is on using the cheap charger, the phone appears to work, but says on the lock screen to plug the phone in.
Further, the lock screen is not responsive. We let it charge with the phone off for about a half hour with the green light on, the phone boot up and had a little bit of life and the screen did work, then it suddenly turned off and won't boot past the Motorola logo (just flashes for a couple of seconds then disappears.)
So, whats the verdict? Hardware problem or is anyone else experiencing this? The phone did completely die, so I wonder if that caused a problem of some kind.
Do you have a Green light when charging with the phone off? Does the light flash red when it's on and charging?
Thanks for the help!
I plugged it into my home computer and nothing happened vs. being able to charge my computer and nothing. Although the phone was about half way charged before I plugged at work, vs 10-15% at home.
Mine didn't charge while plugged into my netbook, but does charge while plugged into my PC, and definitely charges while plugged into the wall charger.
Update: After using the wall charger and fully charging it, I connected the Droid X to my computer and it now syncs up. Maybe the amount of battery power matters?
I don't think the green blinking LED is a charging indicator. Mine charges without it....but I notice when I was charging it the first time, it was going off when I had an unread text message. Is everyone sure the green LED is supposed to be a charging indicator? Mine's charging right now according to the bar on top when I turn it on while it's plugged into my computer.
I'm having a charging issue with my car charger.
When I plug it in to the car the audio volume drops to almost inaudible and the voice commands don't respond anymore.
This is with all the volume sliders set all the way up.
I have to reboot the phone in order to get it to work again.
I've charged it connected to my PC at home and work and it works fine with those.
Wow, the OP totally describe my problem i had too. I went back to Verizon and got another battery. My first battery wouldn't charge above 50% and the second came with 80% and we tried charging it at the store and it never went higher than 80%.I read on another forum that the charging indicator only reads at every 10% intervals, so that may be the problem. The rep and I at Verizon was watching it to see if it would move up to 81% so we would know it was working(beside the bubbles moving animation) and it didn't and we gave up, I will see what happens when I charge it tonite with the AC plug for the first time.
So the green LED light is not a charging indicator. Apparently, there is no charging indicator at all.
We left the phone off and plugged in with the stock charger, no light, but it did gradually move up.
I did some searching on the Motorola forums and another user ran into the same issue, he said that leaving the phone off and charging it for an extended period of time solved the problem.
I have no idea what the green light meant when it was plugged into my cheap Chinese charger, it must have been nothing.
It wasn't a text message or any other kind of notification since it was on only when the phone was completely off.
Before he left with the phone it was up to 90%. A brief press of the power button brought the phones battery state up, but didn't boot the phone.
Hope this helps anyone else with issues. Just plug it in and let it sit overnight.
I had a similar issue the first day.after overnight charge all seems normal for day two.

The only charging indicator is the lock screen part if you just turn it on it will tell you at what point it is charged.

It will occasionally show 5% intervals when it gets below 20% (I've seen 20, 15, 10, and 5% intervals).
I've noticed my phone doesn't like charging from a computer while the battery is really low. Once it's had a little bit of a boost from the wall charger, it will charge fine off the computer.
I just changed to a new one today.a friend of mine is having the sand issues. As so did i. It seems its not the battery its a short on the ground on some phones. Its pretty awkward but it has only been a handful from a batch of thousands that were released. So were in good money.

When you said charge fast you're referring to wall charge? Car charge? Or usb charge?
Stock X
Hey guys,
Figured I'd swing over here and give this a bump for a buddy of mine. Seein if this may be a slightly common issue.
The situation(for him): All on stock phone NO ROOT
- No charge on wall/home charger. Shows charge indication but does not actually charge whatsoever.
- No charge using PC usb cord to charge.
Again everything is stock and not currently running any app killers or really anything out of the ordinary as I can tell. The only thing he has purchased and is running that I am aware of is Launcher Pro. The issue has been brought to the attention of Verizon which is his carrier and he just received his 4th phone! Honestly thats the only reason I'm posting an inquiry into this hear. A simple google search results shows others with similar issues(posted link at bottom). He has purchased a new battery and wall/home charger along with another USB cord. All 3 phones he has had produced the same issue with all of the charge accessories(4th phone just received so no tests as of yet, but i put money on it doing the same thing). Verizon has been willing to replace every phone so thats not a problem but seriously! Is that the only answer?
any help is appreciated in advance

There are two charging indicators, no lights! One is on the status bar, you'll see a lightning bolt through the battery meter, and on the lock screen it will say charging as well with a %.
Absolutely, yes sir. Both indicators(lightning bolt in battery, and battery charge indicators) light up and show charging. Although once phone is unplugged it will keep whatever the charge level indicates for a random amount of time usually between 1min-15mins then the battery indicator drops immediately and shows an almost dead battery. As in charge shows 80%, unplug and within mins phone shows 10%.
Also:
- There are no other indicators of charging other than those mentioned (as it should be).
- The phone connects to PC just fine for mass storage. Files transfer with no problems.
thanx again!
So... which one is it? First you say no indicators, and now there's indicators but it just doesn't hold charge. is VZW replacing the phone or the battery? sounds like a bad battery to me.
My apologies you are correct *edited post* i meant to say it does show charging as in you see the lightning bolt and everything even the battery icon fills to show a "fuller" battery although that stat drops almost immediately after unplugging.
As in replacements they replace the phone and battery as well. I know its the 3rd phone so far with the same problem.

Battery problems already...

Ok so my phone will not charge over 60%. Anyone else having a problem? Going to go back to AT&T and swap batteries to see if it changes anything.
Is there a way to clear the battery memory? I have tried to run it all the way down, then back up but it hasnt changed anything.
Mine wont turn on unless its above 5%, even if plugged in to the wall. I thought it was a brick, doesnt look like it charges well while powered on.
Mine wouldn't charge past 50% most of yesterday. I plugged it in to the wall for a few hours and left it alone. I returned and it had started charging. It also charges very slowly for me over USB.

Dont use the phone while its charging.. it will take forever.
I wonder if the charger can't supply enough juice to the battery.
It does have the biggest battery of any current cell phone.
Has anyone with these issues actually charged the phone while it was off?
I fully charged the phone powered off as soon as I opened the package and I havent had a problem charging at all..
I wonder if anyone knows what apps are active and syncing in the background when the screen is blank? On my previous myTouch 4G (not-so dearly departed), I would start the day with a fully charged battery. For an experiment, I did not use the phone all day until 5pm. When I unlocked it at 5, I had 30% charge left. So where did it go?
I had power saving on, and all social network updates turned off.

Charging issues.

I've noticed that when I leave the phone plugged in overnight it sometimes just seems to stop charging at a random point somewhere throughout the night and I'll wake up with a phone that is only at 80%, 65%, etc.. battery. It isn't fully charging and then just being drained again either, it just randomly stops charging. It will recognize that a charger is plugged in and even says that it is charging but the percentage indicator in the Settings pulldown doesn't move. This doesn't happen every night and it has never happened when I charge the phone during the day. I assume it only happens at night because I'm not at my desk using it. I can also assume that the device isn't taking 8 hours to go from 35% battery to 75%, it doesn't charge that slowly. Any ideas?

I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
I tried it with a different cable last night and it did the same thing. Forgot to mention I'm charging it through my computer.

I would try the charging cable that came with it and if it still does the same thing I would say you have a problem with your phone.

Yeah, I have been using the cable that came with it. I've tried two different ones. I will try to see if it happens when charged through wall outlet.
Sorry for double post. Couldn't figure out how to attach image to an edit.
I looked at my battery settings and this is what I noticed. It looks like my phone is charging all the way up during the evening and then draining but the charging isn't kicking back or something. The huge gap in screen on time was when I was sleeping and there was no use of the device but battery is steadily draining.

As stated in previous post, I have not. That is the plan when I get home.
I have tried it through the wall charger for the past few nights and it charged just fine. I also tried it through the same cable that my N7 and Gnex were charged with and it still happened. I also tried various USB ports. Any ideas?

Is it possible the computer is sleeping and no longer powering the USB ports?
I had exactly the same problem for one night.
But it can't be a problem with my Notebook because
my Galaxy S charged just fine.
Probably due to power saving options on your computer, be they USB power saving settings or sleep related. If you want to charge faster you should definitely use the wall charger, USB charging is painfully slow for me... if i am using the device, load can exceed the incoming current and the phone will still discharge. Moral of the story > USB charging = useless.

It really isn't a matter of slow charging. I'm charging it overnight so the speed at which it charges doesn't matter to me. As long as it is charged when I wake up. I've been using the same computer to charge my phones/tablets/cameras for two years and I've never had a problem. I'm not even using the device though, it is at night when I'm sleeping.
I have the same problem all of a sudden. Happened twice in the past week, never happened for months before. I never charge from a computer, always with the provided adapter and cable from the wall. A few hours into the night, before the phone is at 100% (varies from 70-90%), it just stops charging. Battery graph looks very similar to the one in this thread already posted.
I wonder which device switches the current off, the phone, or the wall adapter. I would have guessed the phone, and if that is correct swapping the wall adapter won't do anything.
Or you can use Fast Charge from Google Play and flash Franco Kernel.
Then you'll be able to switch from USB Charge to AC Charge by charging with your computer.
However, the battery will heat and you may consume its life, so do not do that too often, only when necessary if you expect using your phone very long times as i do, i just change phone every 5 years or more, depending of my needs.
Also, i noticed than USB Charging slowing down the charge at around 80%, but still charging, i read with Battery Monitor Widget, and i seen it will gives minus ampere.
I almost forgot, you may also calibrate your battery, the first time, charge it to 100%, then remove the file "batterystats.bin" from /data/system or wipe it threw Recovery, that will ensure you to use your battery to 100% next time.
Mine seems to stop charging at 100% and go back down also. Mine usually is between 95-100% when I wake up though. Is that just how this phone works to protect the battery? I've never noticed this in any other phone I've had.

Charging issue

There seems to be a bug, where if i leave the phone connected overnight on the stock charger and wifi is off when i wake up the battery is at 80% or less. My theory is that as soon as it reaches 100% it stops charging, has anyone experienced this?

This is happening to me as well; I've come to believe it's a faulty charger, actually. Or a charger designed that way. But the charger's fault regardless.
First occasionally, but now for a few nights in a row, I've found a phone plugged in overnight to be at 80% battery in the morning. When I look at the battery graph, it appears to have charged rapidly to 100% (or close-to), then started slowly discharging. However, with the battery use screen open, I also noticed that the status was rapidly changing between "Charging (AC)" and "Not charging", spending most of the time in the not charging state, despite a constant plugged-in icon in the notification area. This behavior persists regardless of wifi state and through many reboots; BUT, it hasn't happened at all yet (with just limited testing) when plugging it in through the adapter for my last phone (an HTC), nor does it happen when charging via USB. I don't know if the LG charger could be designed that way, where it stops when it's full, or if it's just a faulty unit that needs replacing. I'm going to try it on the HTC wall unit overnight tonight to see what happens.

I'm actually having a similar problem... For me I noticed that the screen stays on while the battery is discharging while on AC charging mode so it may be a different issue. It doesn't always happen but when it does, I'll be sitting around 75% when I wake up in the morning.

Just checking in - a few days later, it hasn't happened yet using the HTC charger.

Turns out this is caused by using a USB extension cable... it would say the phone is charging on AC but there would not be enough current going through. When I plugged the the stock usb cable in to the charger directly, it charged fine.

charging issue

Hi,
Ive had the oppo for just over a day now and the first day all was well until last night. I had about 10% battery and left the phone on charge. half an hour later i came back and it was on 2% and then it died. I connected my phone to my computer via the usb cable and the charging indicator came on. The phone has been charging for 3 hours and is still on 0% and as soon as i take it of the phone dies.
hope someone can help
thanks

sorry to hear about the charging problem. I have not heard of that. Some have complained that it charges slow. I have the opposite experience, mine charges relatively quickly I think. Anyway, have you tried contacting OPPO support. They will respond withing 24hrs, assuming it's not the weekend!
I also experienced some charging issues. Connected my Find to my laptop the other evening, closed the lid and went to bed.
The next morning the phone was out of juice. For some reason, my Find 5 will not charge when my laptop is hibernating. It charges fine otherwise.
No other phone I've owned has this problem. I tested it with my old Galaxy Note and HD2. No problems charging when laptop is hibernating.
I also noticed that sometimes when connected as Media Device (MTP) it says charging....but the battery level still goes down.

Probably the power output is not enough to charge the phone properly, it also happens to me, but with the stock charger it does it well.
