Nexus S for a Lumia 620 worth it? - Nexus S General

My 9023 is almost 2 years old and i dont want to spend that much money upgrading to a high-end android model (live in brazil, prices are not fair over here) and i've noticed that the lumia 620 has slightly better specs than the 9023. My phones battery has been a disapointment in late times, i do use alternative rom and kernel, just not sure if WP8 is a good choice towards fluidity and battery (1300mAh), both things i seek as the only thing i use on my phone is whatsapp, music and browsing. Im not a fanboy of brands and things, im more interested in real numbers and experience. Anyone care to give input? http://versusio.com/en/nokia-lumia-620-vs-google-nexus-s
Thx all

Not worth it
If you upgrade wouldn't you want at least a better resolution? The Nokia 620 has the same resolution and is a smaller screen, albeit a higher ppi.
Now if it were the Nokia 920, I would say go for it.

So its a no, no, no, no, never, no? Lol

Giving away your Nexus s for a lumia 620 is actually called downgrading not upgrading, if you really love this phone the only way to upgrade is to buy a better android device. Between you and me the windows phones dont get half the suport that android, and especially Nexus phones have. Think of it this way, untill Key Lime Pie commes the nexus s will have custom roms for all versions of Jelly Bean...and then some features of KLP wilk certanly be ported to older devices, but if windows 9 comes do you think it will be ported to old phones. Sorry for repeting myself but the only posible upgrade for a older android phone/phablet/tablet is a new android one

[Q] Nexus One replacement?

Hi all! I'm thinking of selling my Nexus One, but before doing so I'm looking at what options I have open to me. Can any of you guys suggest phones, any OS really, and comment about the phone with respect to the Nexus?
I'm currently considering the HTC Desire Z/ G2, the HTC Desire HD, the Nokia N8 and the iPhone 4. Any thoughts?
Oh, and no CDMA phones please. I live in a GSM country.
Get an HD2 and flash whatever rom you want on it, unless you want a front facing camera then its down to the IPhone 4 or the nexus s...

dont get nokia n8. that is a definite downgrade. desire z seems a downgrade too (slower CPU) desire hd yes, iPhone 4, i wouldn't get that. i would wait a couple months till iPhone 5 (june) or if you can hold of, just keel your nexus, it is still arilliant phone. you can update it through loads of custom roms. you will also get the official 2.3 update. hope i helped.
I barely got my nexus one since I got it for cheap on ebay but I was reallllllly tempted of getting the nokia N8 coming from a nexus one to a desire z or a desire hd doesn't really qualify for a nexus one upgrade. My opinion is if your using the next phone for 6 months to a year get the iphone 4 or N8 if your geting another android device stick to your nexus. If your planning to keep the device for a year or two wait until the next gen iphone comes out or meego or android tegra devices.
Personally I wouldn't sell off you N1 just yet. The N1 still has a lot of life left in it, the recent releases aren't exactly huge upgrades.
If your N1 died/broke/bricked/whatever and you need a replacement then yes, a Desire HD or even a Nexus S would be a good choice if it picks your fancy.
If you are selling because you want a new toy to play with then I'd wait until the dual cores hit the market since they just around the corner.

Thanks guys, but I have come to a conlusion that I think many Nexus One owners feel. I've been looking ALL OVER at phones that have just come out, being rumoured, etc etc, but this just made me want my Nexus even more because (silly as it may sound) I can't find anything that I feel could occupy the same space in my heart as the Nexus
Now, I'm off to get myself some of those custom ROMs. Thanks a million guys!

Yeah you'd be better off waiting. CES is going on right now and a lot of the new phones will be out fairly soon (going by the current rate phones are being churned out).
I'm looking to move on too, but I'm happy to wait for the new pack.

I'm chiming in a bit late here as you have made up your mind and keeping your Nexus, but I will add that the Nexus One is the best phone I've ever owned. My main reason: The phone did not come loaded with bloatware and you don't have to root or flash to make it a great device. You're making the right decision.

Thanks again guys, looking at what's out the moment only makes me love my Nexus more. Even more so that I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 on it XD
The dual core phones are interesting, but none have the same "impact" the Nexus One has. And I'd be surprised if Google didn't release a "Nexus 2" with the same power, and maybe 2.4 if the rumours are to be believed.

Technically there is a sucessor, - Google Nexus S developed by Samsung. but i wouldnt condider it a major upgrade.
I completely agree that the nexus s is not much of an upgrade.. More of a face lift. Personally I have messed with my buddy's NS and it feels like my Vibrant I had (cheep and plastic) but I do have to say it looks sexy. I love my N1 and it will be around until it bites the dust.
Great choice on keeping your N1!!
I know about the Nexus S, but I think calling it the Nexus One's successor is borderline crimal.
Agreed, it looks great, but doesn't feel so great. But I guess it's a suitable platform to launch Gingerbread. After all, it's almost more about the software than the hardware.

Oh, Nokia, You Silly Goose

Well, apparently Nokia has a new business model:

I got a good chuckle out of this. A friend of mine has a W7 phone so I've played with one before, but it's just not Android.
Best of luck to them, I'll never buy a Nokia anything, even if it ran Android, it sucks for W7 that they got stuck with such a mediocre and unimpressive phone maker.

Have you ever used a nokia phone?
Nokia runs circles around apple, htc, sprint, samsung, lg and every single other "phone maker" combined. They are the only company that puts legit thought into the models of their phones. Not to mention their cameras from 2 years ago are far superior to our current 5mp and 8mp camera.
Any OS that Nokia chooses to use should be considered blessed.

I wont disagree with this. I had a N97 and it was one of the best phones ive had.
Better yet have you used the N900? Excellent phone, open source hardware and OS. I suggest anyone interested in customization or even learning dev to check it out. Maemo is almost completely community supported. Nokia just should have followed through instead of jumping to MeeGo so quickly. I am not currently impressed with Meego. I wish they would have just continued QT dev on Maemo. The N900 hardware rocks

I think that they just got really desperate with android, ios and now wp7 moving so fast.
I just hope they don't completely forsake MeeGo for WM7. MeeGo looks like something I'd potentially leave android for. I can run my own shell scripts on it? Sign me up!

I looked up some pictures and specs. Not bad. I could be wrong about Nokia phones but I've just never seen them as competitive. At least no so much as HTC, Motorola or Samsung. Even LG to an extent.

To the people hyping, if Nokia went the Android route - maybe went the vanilla route as well - it could've been interesting. Don't hate. Will be interesting to see what happens ... but the direction was a bit surprising. And now to hype and even say "the #1 goal ... " is funny. Will be interesting, but what could've been would've been more so.

Who's "upgrading" to HTC One?

Just want to know if there's worth to do the change or to wait for the next nexus.
I am not going to buy a SGS4, I don't like it, the xperia z is to squared, lg optimus ? Is lg and the HTC seems to be perfect.
Thanks.

I am more seriously considering the rumoured Nexus 4 32GB LTE, if that phone is a flop I may pick up an HTC One later this year.
I had it and liked it a lot. The only reason I went back to my N4 was because I'm scared of how well it will get updated. Overall though I may pick it up again. Its beautiful, fast and everything about it works. I miss some of its kool features already.

Personally, after being sucked into the Nexus line (pun not initially intended, but halfway through typing, fully intended), I won't be leaving for a long time. The Nexus 4 is just such a great phone, and no manufacturer getting in the way of tweaking it. Plus, it's probably half the price of the One. If you're signing a contract, then you have to weigh the pros and cons of that.
Anyway, no, I'm not getting the One. The decision to upgrade can only be made by you. Good luck.
I actually 'downgraded' (ordered the HTC One, waited for a month for it to ship and when I saw they will not have any more stock for a long time, I cancelled the order and bought the N4). I do not regret it at all, seeing how fast it is.

Will you still think ANY of the above phones are an upgrade when the Nexus4 is sporting Android 5 and they are all still on Android 4.1???

The upgrading is quoted which means that I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade. But it is an upgrade in hardware cause it comes with bigger screen ,faster processor and else.
In the software I really don't care cause devs will always keep up with Google as the CM project.

Once you go Nexus you can't go back!!!
You have been warned!!!
unless the nexus 5 blows me away, I'll probably wait for the 6. I got bills to pay so I can't upgrade every 6 months to whatever "it" phone is on the market like some of u guys. Even though the N4 has a very good camera, I'd like to see Google step up their game and make the next iteration have one of the best cameras on the market.. Also have a 32GB option and I'm good.

Despite the rumors, I don't think apple will release the 5.5 inches screen, only the 4.7 one and a tweak on the iPhone 5S. They will not be as stupid as to lose the size their user base loves so much... I mean, with all the BS on one hand operation we've had to put up with for so long, they wouldn't be as dumb as to pass on that, right?
Apple is copying many of the best Android features, making itself more attractive to Android users, but in all honesty, it's not enough.
Like aluminum? The HTC one m8 is better, larger, sports better sound, and has all the Android stuff apple has not copied yet. Like better looks? The LG G3 is just amazing... Then there is price... Flagship material like the one plus one or the find 7 are half the price of the iPhone, with better specs and way more flexibility.
I don't know, I really don't see any reason to move to Apple.

Hey Guys and Gals
The Desire 820's Specifications look impressive for a mid-range device, featuring a 64bit processor and 2 high quality cameras, high resolution selfie anybody?
The main let down being a lower resolution display compared to some of the high end devices, would this stop anybody purchasing this device?
So, who plans this as their next upgrade?

I'm going to buy this device as soon it hits Europe, ofc if the price will be reasonable in the country I live in.
Actually I realised that this phone exists yesterday, and I'm impressed. I think it will be a great upgrade from my Xperia SP.
I am using nexus 4 and planning to buy nexus 6, however, nexus 6 is hugely overpriced.
Desire 820 has my attention now, I would like to have a dual sim phone, but the most concern for me is the availability of CM11 / other native android rom, I don't need those junk system apps on the phone.
When is this device expected to launch worldwide? It was announced so long ago but it's still not out. ... i want my colleagues who want an affordable phone to get this.

The sixth Sense isn't that bad when it comes to stuff you mantioned But I think the phone will get some attention due to its affordability and specs. It's the first device with Qcom octa-core and 64bit, so I think it will be a pleasure to work with that for devs.

Id love to get this phone but as i am in the uk it feels like ill be getting it christmas 2015 rather than this year. Finding info on a UK release is proving very difficult and rather farcical considering it was announced months ago.
I emailed htc customer support and even they have no idea when it is due out, just that they are planning to 'in the future'.
Hopefully in April
I really love the specs i'm seeing and i like the size, but i'm waiting for developement on the device to build up a bit, like a official lolipop upgrade and a CM11/12build or some other AOSP roms etc. But its seems great at a really reasonable price

I really love the specs i'm seeing and i like the size, but i'm waiting for developement on the device to build up a bit, like a official lolipop upgrade and a CM11/12build or some other AOSP roms etc. But its seems great at a really reasonable price

I just got one.... Upgraded from and SG-S4, I'm pleased so far but want to get some use in the states to make a final opinion. I too can't wait for more development on this phone.

Let me know how things go, Do you find the phone out matches the SG-S4? tbh i'm sorta torn between the (over priced) Note 3, SG-S4 and this one.

I definitely prefer htc's stock camera. Stock battery seems to last longer too, however I tweaked my s4 so much I don't think anything stock could match the battery life I was getting out of my sg4's custom kernel.
Other than that I just really miss the dev aspect. I might take it up as a hobby just to unlock this baby's potential.
My desire 820 will be delivered tomorrow morning. Hope so. So any recommendations before using it for the first time to improve battery life, performance and others??
Rooting Question
Anyone managed to root the Desire 820s yet? cant seem to make it S-OFF.
