[Korean Users Only] Xperia Z Conversation - Xperia Z General

Hi. This thread is ONLY for Korean users of Xperia Z and Koreans who wants to buy it.
Since Xperia Z is not most likely coming to Korea, let's share where to buy it and more.
Please share your reviews, where to buy it and more.

Disappointed in Sony and SK Telecom
I have sent email after email to Sony Mobile Korea (SMK) since the Xperia S was announced last year to find out if it was coming to Korea. They could not give me any answers. Eventually I was told that Sony will DEFINITELY release a "new and better phone than the Xperia S in 2013".
When the Xperia Z was announced I thought This Is It!!!
Again one email after the other got me nowhere - each time the same response: we have no information yet...
The only info I got from SMK was that the phone will NOT be released in March. So will it be released later or not???
The handset has been released in more than 60 countries already. One would think that Sony would make decision about Korea. This country has a tough market and the Xperia Z is the perfect phone to get a stronger hold in the Korean market.
Anyway, I know the phone is available on Gmarket. Just search Xperia z
It would be good to have a Korean phone the seller and ask if the phone can be used in Korea, just to be sure.
You can then choose from a variety of service plans from KT: ktexpatblog . com
Choose the "Mobile Phones" tab and then "Rate Plans".
I hope this is helpful.
I will wait a while longer until Sony officially make an announcement on whether the Xperia Z will be released in Korea (I doubt though if we will ever get a definite answer).

I don't think Z will launch in Korea. Simply because Sony and HTC have given up on the Korean market due to Samsung's obvious dominance in its home country.

Maybe

Maybe they will. Sony is desperate to get back into the market and they finally have the phone to do so.
On the other hand, it's not good news that Motorola and HTC pulled out of Korea last year and Blackberry will do the same this year. This shows how dominant Samsung is in SK.
But the Xperia Z is finally a phone that can compete with Samsun's Galaxy and Note. They would be stupid if they don't push the Z in Korea.
This is Sony's chance to get into the Korean market.

Yeah... I mailed them and they said that they are working for releasing a new phone between Q1-Q2. But no news If they are planning for XZ, they need to be quick because it isnt smart for sony to release XZ after Samsung release S4.

I totally agree. They need to release it (whichever handset they choose) ASAP. Once Samsung releases the S4 Sony will have no option but to throw in the towel.
However, I've learned to take everything Sony Mobile Korea says with a (huge) pinch of salt. Last year they told me a better phone than the Xperia S WILL be released in Korea during Q1 of 2013. No chance of that happening!

Sad but I am considering to buy it from handtec.

How about clove.co.uk? The Xperia Z is the same price as on handtec.
Does anyone have experience with any of these companies?

Galaxy S4
The fact that there is STILL no info on the Xperia Z's release in Korea, not even from Sony Mobile Korea, is really disappointing.
I was planning to buy the Z online and get a contract from KT. However, what if something goes wrong with the phone or I lose it? There is no insurance plan like you can get when buying a phone on contract.
So I have officially decided that if the Z is STILL not in Korea by the release of Galaxy S4 this will be my next phone.
To hell with Sony and their poor service.
It's sad because I truly love Xperia, but the S4 looks like the most viable option

The Streak Pro (D43) (codename "Millenium") has launched in China today. It features the Baidu Yi platform as it's OS.
Facts:
The SPro is NOT the "Opus One", that title can be reserved for the Lenovo LePad S2005
The specs have been bumped slightly since the initial rumors. It was originally announced with 512mb ram and 1gb nand and launched with 1gb ram and 8gb nand. It also officially supports FM Radio, a first for any dell mobile device.
The associated carrier in China is China Unicom, which hosts the largest HSPA 900/2100mhz network in China. While Softbank does have presense in China and India it is NOT the associated carrier in China for the SPro.
It is not branded as a 4g device as China has no 4g networks of any kind. The Snapdragon S4 MSM8260 supports HSPA+ (which was renamed to be a 4g technology) is the heart of the SPro, but it requires the carrier to also support HSPA+ to take advantage of it. If it were released with the same hardware in the US, it would be branded as a 4g phone.
If/when the SPro launched in Japan it will be launched as the Streak Pro 101DL and is a different varient of the Streak Pro D43 as it will be expected to have Android 2.3.x installed instead of Yi.
Background:
The Streak 5 and 10 launched earlier in the summer without any GApps integration, the S5 launched with 2.2.2 and the S7 launched with 3.1. Their GApps were replaced by their Baidu equivilents.
Unlike the SPro, the S5/10 both had Dell Stage installed with a limited widget set.
The Streak Pro would be more approporately labeled as the sucessor to the Venue. The venue is a 4.1" AMOLED device, while the SPro is a 4.3" SAMOLED device. Both devices target mainstream audiences unlike the S5 which targets a specific segment. The naming may be due to the fact the Streak brand is the strongest of the 3 Dell mobile brands (Mini 3/Streak/Venue). The S5 was originally slated to be launched as the Mini 5, but possibly was changed to avoid the bad press surrounding the entire Mini 3 series [See the Dell Aero, it is the most prominent member of the Mini 3 family]
About Yi:
Yi is a derivative of android, as in it's primarly android but with all the google services removed and replaced by Baidu equivilents.
Dell had previously announced that the Streak 5 would recieve Yi as a varient model, apparently this has transformed into China recieving the SPro before Japan and with Yi instead of android.
It is unknown if Yi is compatable with android, any android device that does not have the android market is techincally not running android, as being labeled "Android" means that the manufacturer has been given the go-ahead from Google after running some automated tests to check for compatability compliance.
As it is counterproductive to differentiate your platform and require app makers to learn yet another platform, the likelyhood of Yi being compatable with android apps is high.
Speculation:
The SPro's asthetics hints that the Spro may be manufactured also by PEGATRON instead of Qisda.
Devices manufactured by Qisda:
Streak 5/7, Venue /Venue Pro
Devices manufactured by PEGATRON:
Streak 10
As the Lenovo LePad S2005 is also manufactured by Qisda for Lenovo and not Dell, it may be due to Dell's dissastifaction with their support cycle. Qisda designs both the software and hardware for the devices they support. As they are a ODM there is nothing stopping them from selling their designed to other prospective companies. If the S2005 had a Dell logo it would be the "Opus One"
If the S10 is any indication, the SPro will have it's price drop signifigantly by the beginning of 2012. The S10 launched at ¥2999 and is currently available in the ¥1900-2000 range. This is not as much due to the popularity of the device as much as the way the market system works in China. Due to it's price the S10 is extremely agressively priced compared to contempory 10.1" tabs in China, being as much at 30% cheaper (also due to it being one of the few 10.1" android tabs officially available/not needing import.) The S10 is not available direct from the Dell website, but it is widely available on Taobao, the Chinese equivilent of Amazon or Ebay.
As an owner of the three previous Streaks I can say the S10 has the best battery life by far in comparison to the s5/s7, even taking into account the size of it's battery. The S5/7 share the same codebase and are known to have moderate to serious battery drain issues.
My S10 is currently going on 637 hours of uptime, 196 hours since last recharge with 52% battery used with very light use.
Even though the battery is roughly the same size as the one in the S5, if it is anything like the S10 you can expect at least double or triple the battery life of the S5 (depending on use/state of battery drain bugs)
If the SPro were launched worldwide, it could possibly compete as a flagship phone. The most similar device to it is the HTC Sensation/XE
Conclusion:
If it were not for the display size, the SPro could be easily seen as a fitting sucessor to the S5. The matter of it not running android is irrelevent as Yi would likely not be included on any device except those in China.
If the SPro is priced just as agressively then Dell may be serious about building it's mobile brand in China.
Thanks for info
I think I should buy a one
But I am running low on $
I'll never ever buy any Dell phones - the Dell Streak 5 experience was a really bad one. Even if Dell releases the Streak's successor, I will surely not follow them anymore. The Samsung Note is far better and I will stick with the likes of Samsung/HTC from now on.
Additional info:
Dell has the press release list: UMTS 900/1700/1700/2100, the double 1700 isnt a typo, it supports both AWS and the 1700 used in Japan. (More techincally it's bands I/IV/VIII/IX)
UMTS Frequency Bands - Wikipedia
That means that it's likely the same hardware submodel that will be released in Japan, minus the small logo on the battery cover(?) and the obvious difference in OS
Strangely enough, IX band is listed as supporting NTT DoCoMo, which is a competetor of Softbank.
The S5 model launched in Japan was the US submodel, which means that potentially the SPro will be compatable with multiple carriers in Japan over 3g
About Softbank:
Streak Pro Product Page - Softbank
The SPro is in fact slated for a January release for Softbank. Softbank does not list the 3g bands supported on their submodel, but this is true for many of the phones they list.
As stated before theirs is listed as supporting Android 2.3. 4.0 would be assumed to be available some time after launch, but neither Dell nor Softbank seems to have any comments on this.
The Android models will be the first in the Dell mobile lineup to support Stage 2.0. The individial widgets are available for download, but cannot be used without the actual launcher currently.
About Yi:
Dell's flash demo for the SPro
First impressions are that Yi is definitely mantaining it's android heritage. The primary difference (besides the removal of google's services) is the change in the UX (user experience), it more closely mimics iOS in that it does not require the use of the menu button, and could possibly get by with only a home button.
Android 3.x and now 4.0 are also drifting in this direction incidentally, as they have been shedding their menu buttons in support of a native menu button in the title bar of the app. 3.0+ only shows the menu button on older apps that have not been updated to take advantage of the new titlebar.
I will not buy another Dell phone, enough suck with the Dell streak

It also officially supports FM Radio, a first for any dell mobile device.

Dell Streak 5 supports FM Radio, only if the user enables it. Basically it officially supports FM Radio but Dell disabled it.
That's why I said officially, that's what official means

Sorry Dell, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, well, you know.
I've had great luck & service from Dell laptops over the last 10 years, but, I did not buy my next phone from them. I got a Galaxy Note. Dell, AT&T or both dropped the ball....the streak 5 was and still is a good device, but I've moved on.
Screenshots of Baidu Yi on the SPro D43
Yi is basically android 2.3.5 but rethemed
Think moto blur or samsung touchwiz but taken to a much farther level.
Yi completly replaces Goog's GApps (as they are blocked in china anyway) and fully rethemes the UI. Besides that it is CLEARLY android running underneath it.
I imagine the upstream source (ie the people that make YI) are the reason it's on 2.3.5 and not newer, as 2.3.6/7 dont add much user facing that isnt gapps specific.
The rom listed there is 049 region 99 with the full version tag being
MILLM1A104399
0xx roms are generally early prototype roms, until I can find a screenshot that's clearly from a retail unit I cant say if region 99 is a beta region or the one for the yi
Region 01 and 51 were previously used prototype rom regions
Would this phone be compatible with Tmobile and ATT 4g?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
It's a HSPA+ phone (which all american carriers call '4g')
it (likely) will get 3/4g on tmousa but only 2g on at&t
Cam problem
I had one. But camera not good as i think. with 8.0 camera the result is too dark and focus not correctly.
Can someone help me
great

Only 2 hours of driving from Israel
Just kidding... Of course Israel is no included in the middle east releases... We have here a very bad importer! It took them forever to get the first Note. (They import fast only the Galaxy S series)

I checked a Saudi Telecom company website to check if they have the note and its their for pre-orders and in the listings it says 4G,but honestly the whole middle east will get the international version which INDEED have 4G, but we already dont have 4G so its quite useless maybe that's what he meant that it wont work so only 3G will work :fingers-crossed:

I wouldn't recommend to buy without warranty, you end up paying around a 100 $ less and take a risk of getting a faulty device.

[Q] Preorder deals in germany

Hi guys,
after a long time of absence i'm finally going to come back to the HTC folks. Has anyone seen good preorder deals in Germany? If i look to idealo (the standard german comparison site), i only see way too expensive deals starting from 666 €.
If i look to clove i'd have to pay 610 € for the preorder deal (incl. shipment - 32GB version)
Idealo has the 64gb version for 780 €.. Way too expensive if you ask me.
So.. I'd like to have the 64GB version.
Any comments welcome..
cheers
EDIT: This site is giving an overview for preordering deals at providers.. I don't see any information about the 64GB version yet. I could be the 32GB version on friday in Hamburg for 600 €, but unfortunately i'm not at home until next week.

BTW, yesterday I went to O2 shop, the sales rep told me I can order the contracted phone and cancel the contract after the 1st month.
Hope to get mine ASAP. Can't wait any more. LOL

This site[/URL] is giving an overview for preordering deals at providers.. I don't see any information about the 64GB version yet. I could be the 32GB version on friday in Hamburg for 600 €, but unfortunately i'm not at home until next week.

9,99€ only? the sales rep shows me something like 1€ +25€ +10€ for the first month......I didn't quite catch her. But she said the Pre-ordered customers will get the devices on the 8th or 9th March.
Personally, I won't buy it at O2. If not at Vodafone in Berlin, I'll wait for Mediamarkt or Saturn. Hope at that time the shops will have some special offer or voucher to give.
I guess you can also make use of the german "Widerruf"-law and only cancel the contract and keep the phone.

That's too mean. LOL
I think there must be some hidden trap in the O2 contact. O2 will not be so stupid to let the customers so easy to cancel the contracts.

3.28 HTC One HongKong Press Conference Confirmed

It is in Chinese, but you get the date from the snapshot below. Looks like the HTC officially send invitation to the HK media.
FYI, it is not the release date for HongKong.

I heard the chinese people get's a different type of HTC One? It should have 12megapixels(not ultrapixel) and has a sd card slot?
Hmmm wonder how zoe would do with that.
I'm pretty sure Hong Kong will get the Ultrapixel version, not the Chinese version.

There are rumors that the Contract version with China Mobile will feature a 8 megapixel camera.
That would just do for China mainland.

Ahh yes you're right. It's 8mp instead of 13mp. So hongkong variant is different than chinese variant? Hmmm I thought hongkong is also part of china.

Yeah, Hong Kong will get the HTC One with the same specs as everywhere else, but it will also have traditional Chinese support.
Just Google Hong Kong SAR, to find out why it isn't really part if China.

Well, HK is absolutely Chinese territory.
There is something called "One Country, Two Systems" which you should know.
That is not what we are trying to talk about here.
This version has an SD card option?

Well, please understand the so-called Special Administrative Region.
It means HK is special compared with China mainland, but it is part of China.
Gosh, I gotta stop educating people about this stuff.

Of course it's part of China, but nothing here is like the mainland, is it?
lol you guys diverted the topic from phone to countries I just asked if HK will also get the chinese variant or not since obviously they're of the same country.
Much like in EU Great Britain, England & Wales are seperated but all of them are getting the same variant.

Nah hong Kong gets the best of both worlds. They get the xiaomi, meizu phones etc as well as the international samsungs, htcs, nexus line etc
Based on the phones available in HK I would say almost 100% internatipnal 4mp version, but no doubt a few places will sell the China one

For the longest time many in Taiwan and many in Hong Kong look down on Chinese Mainlanders and view themselves as being the better people when all in all they are all Chinese lol.. This usually irks the Mainlanders from China along with those from Taiwan and Hong Kong. I have been Asia for quite some time now and am not Chinese. At the end of the day they are all Chinese. Yes the ones in Hong Kong are from Hong Kong and the ones from Taiwan are from Taiwan but at the end of the day all of them are Chinese!
Back to the main topic of smartphones, Hong Kong usually gets the international edition and usually the one with 4G or LTE which is nice. In Taiwan HTC pretty much Fuc*ed their own people over by being stingy and taking out the 4G/LTE option and just selling their device with the 3G model. Then HTC wonders why they lose market share to Samsung and others

[Australia] Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Discussion

Pre-ordered Black Ultra for me. Don't know if it is Dual SIM version. The customer support said to me it supports one nano SIM and e-SIM. Can anyone confirm?
Since the screen supports 120hz but only at 1080p due to battery drainage. Do you think through root etc that they will be able to support the 1440p like the 60hz?

Earlier today I pre-ordered an S20 Ultra and I was wondering about the same thing. What needs to be done to get the 120Hz on full resolution - Is it just a software limitation?

According to a user on whirlpool that spent an hour talking to samsung support. Yes and no to your question. If you purchased through any carrier (optus, voda, telstra etc) there is NO dual sim of any kind, even though the phone supports it, it has been disabled.
However if you bought outright through jb hifi etc or samsung directly then yes, dual sim is available.
Hopefully its just a matter of flashing a non carrier firmware over the phone to enable dual sim like some other brands but time will tell.
Gott the email from Samsung stating the delivery date shown wrong (5 March 2020) and it is now 26 March 2020. Anyone else got this email?

March 26th?! I sure hope that's not the case in the US when pre orders start next Friday. Release date supposed to be March 6th.
Yeah, my pre-order confirmation said 26th....
Wonder why it changed to 3 weeks later. Not looking good...
I thought it was maybe because I ordered the 512, or I was a bit late and missed the first run?

Yes they have copied the official specs. Like i said, its internally there just not enabled due to being a carrier phone. This is not the first time they have done this. Optus, telatra, vodafone all will only have single sim activatible according to samsung level 3 techs themselves

Cancelled my order from Samsung. Found that Westpac employees get 20% off all the S20 series. Going to get help from one of my mate who works in Westpac. I could save $450. But Westpac orders doesn't come with Bud+. It comes with Wireless Power bank.
Anyone here upgrading from S10+ to any S20 series?
I ordered via Very (UK) S20 Ultra 512GB.
Still showing delivery on or before 10th March. (last checked 17th Feb)
Hopefully thry have secured stock to fulfill my order.

upgrading from S10+ 512GB to S20 Ultra 512GB
I've ordered the 512gb version and it's arriving on the 26th. It said rust at time of order. The 512 version was always delayed in Australia, something to do with stock of those beasts.
Anyone planning to root your new Galaxy S20 Ultra?
I am searching for reliable procedure on how to root. I am not sure if esim still works after rooting.
