[Q] Android NooB question: Cannot get a SD card mounted... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi experts here,
Sorry to bother you but I could not find clear explications on how to do it right:
I have formatted my 16GB SD card to have 13GB Fat 32, 1,5 GB Ext2 and 0,5 GB linux swap.
Then I have copied the current AmeriCan Android to to the Fat32 partition and fired HaRet.
Android boots fine, but has got no SD card mounted and the menu to mout it is greyed out.
a) how to mount the Fat32 Partition of the SD card?
b) did Android install on the ext2 partition? If not, what is the procedure to get it there?
Thank you.
RIN67630

As far as I know, sd-build android's data/storage is in a file called data.img located on your sdcard. I am not sure if it's supposed to show that you actually have an sdcard.
a) I am not sure, so I can't say anything.
b) Find a rom you want (because you can't convert your current ROM to an ext one, you can make a backup though) from the nand section. If by (boot from ext) you mean NativeSD, you don't need MAGLDR/cLK. Just look for the "NativeSD for Windows Mobile Users" guide, and follow it. But if by that you mean (have your storage on the ext) then you must install cLK/MAGLDR, install a recovery, repartition your system accordingly and then flash the rom from the recovery install earlier.
If what I said made no sense to you or you think it's too complicated, use the search.

May I try to reformulate my questions?
- Can Nandroid mount (read-write) the SD FAT32 Partition which contains the filesystem image from which it has booted?
- If yes, how?
- If no, would nativeSD be the solution to share (read-write) the FAT 32 data between Android and WinMo?
Thank you for the advice.

Hi, I think we are in the same boat, I am running an SD version Android ICS from my SD card and it says that no SD card is mounted. I would like to know how I can transfer music and side load apps I already downloaded. It would be great help if someone could help

Finally, I found it out: My SD card was partitioned. I made an extra second EXT2 partition for Android, which was a bad idea.
It turns out that Android cannot recognize partitioned SD cards or they need a separate mounting procedure, don't know exactly...
Since I have deleted the extra partition Android can read/write on the full SD card...

[Q] My SD Card cant make an A2SD Patition

Hey guys - i just bought an awsome SDCard, a 32GB class 10. just put it in ma HD2 trying to partition it in recovery mode - but after partitioning, the phone (through titanium backup) the phone only sees the fat32 partition and not the sd-ext partition. now i'v tried using PC Software to partition and the tutorials all over but that doesnt help either.
what am i missing? i need help
Hi,
Did you partition in CWM with 1024M and 0 swap ?
simple idea/rule of thumb; class 10 cards are **** and you don't notice an increase in file transfer due to the limitations of the phone itself
Install ubuntu on your windows pc using the wubi installer (google is your friend here), it's very simple to do. Once you have ubuntu linux installed, go into the software center and search for 'partition manager' or 'partition editor'. Then install it. It should be listed in system tools as GParted. Plug in your sd card thru a card reader or a digital camera or another phone, and unmount it in gparted. Then create a new ext4 (probably 1 gb/1024mb) all the way to the right side of the space shown for the card in GParted. Then when finished click apply changes near the bottom of the GParted window. Done
Your phone won't show you that it sees the ext partition, that's all done behind the scenes. The only way to know is to install apps, and watch the system memory in settings/storage. If your memory goes down significantly as you install apps, something has gone wrong. If it only goes down a little (maybe 1-2 mb) after installing a bunch of apps, then all is well and working properly.

@ Malybru - no, my partition is 2048MB Ext - 256MB swap.
@huggs - that is strange because before i had an 8GB class 4 memory card - i had created a 1024MB partition and when i ran titanium backup - you could see the sd-ext partition below SDCard and Internal Storage
additionally, with the new cardz during every data wipe it skips the SD-ext saying that it cant find it - which never happened with the old card so thats why i believe that there isnt one
Weird. I've used quite a few different roms and have never seen the ext partition in storage settings. Wish I could tho.

its not that you could see it in storage settings.. but you could see it in titanium backup and you can mount it in recovery mode
Oh, I didn't know that about Titanium, thanks. I'm gonna have to take a look, for curiosity sake if nothing else

Which roms are you trying it with? Have you tried other cards?
Format the card using Panasonic SDFormatter..
Format: FULL (Overwrite)
Size Adjustment: ON
Now partition again using CWM, 1GB space and 0MB swap.
Yes i had tried 2 cards 16Gb and 2GB now i will try again.
PS: I'm using Typhoon now.

That looks like it should be correct.
Give rafdroid 4.02 a try, that is the one I use and which shows the the correct size for sure.

Hi,
I think you are confusing the different sections of space on the phone.
Get yourself Titanium Backup, and it will list the different storage spaces you have:
System ROM
Internal
SD card
SD card(a2sd) or EXT.3 partition in your case.
The 100MB you see is internal free space.
You can then how much space you have on your EXT. and what is being used.

260MB of free internal memory
And 999MB free on your EXT. partition.
You should update the app.It will also show system as well.

make sure you clean out the old rom before booting the new rom, , in CWM choose 'wipe data/factory reset', then 'wipe cache', then 'advanced - wipe dalvik cache'

HTC HD2 EXT3 partition not showing up
Hi,
I just installed miui 6.9.29. Everything is working fine but one thing: the ext3 partition i created in CWM (512 mb, 0 mb swap) does not show up as internal storage. I tried to mount it in CWM, but still no luck . Can someone please help me? I really need more than 115 mb of internal storage, since there is only 23.54 mb available. Pretty stupid actually because i only want about 3-4 apps more..

[Q] Move apps from sd-ext to NAND, then repartition SD card

Hi guys,
I've installed a CM7 ROM then installed S2E, then flashed an AOSP build to replace it. When I try to use S2E to move the apps back to NAND from sd-ext, it shows up in NAND in the first couple of boots, but later on goes back to sd-ext without S2E doing the job. I kinda figured that it's built into the ROM to move the apps to sd-ext.
What would be the safest way to move the apps from sd-ext back to /data/app, and then repartition my SD card into a single partition and use its whole storage capacity?
Thanks in advance!

try link2sd in the market,it's free, but once you've moved all u want to,boot into recovery and wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik, that MIGHT do the trick
one question, how do you want to partition your sd? i mean one fat or one ext partition? But seriously, one partition is a bad idea, i wouldnt recommend that.
@Ty5982, Thanks for the input! Will try that later.
@greg17477, I'm using Windows so I want to format it to a single Fat32 partition. What's your recommendation?
Partition ur sd card in recovery with 1gb and swap size 64mb,THEN,open link2sd and when u 1st open it,it checks your phone and sd card then prompts u were u want to send apps to,ext 2,3,4 or FAT 32,select FAT 32 as its what u want, then a error msg will appear, reboot, then open link2sd and now you've got your fat 32 lol

Won't that have moved his apps to a fat32 partition?
If I'm reading this correctly what the OP wants is to move his apps to NAND so he can format his sd card to its full capacity in FAT32, presumably so he can use it as a normal SD card (eg for a camera, moving files etc)
I personally use a very popular app called DarkTremors Apps2SD GUI, it comes preinstalled on a lot of custom ROMS. This app checks where your apps are when you launch it, and gives you the option to either move them to SD-EXT or back again. Launch APPS2SDGUI, let it check your system, then click 'Apps are on SD!' to move them back to NAND.
P.S. I don't think you can wipe the SD-EXT partition off the SD card using Windows' built-in formatter. There are lots of freeware apps that can and will do this though, google is your friend =]

@Ty5982, unfortunately it didn't work. It went badly and I lost the apps in sd-ext so I ended up restoring them..

well i would recommend tu have 2 partitions, ext and fat. Just to be safe or prapared in case your want to try a different rom. Nowadayes almost every rom uses ext partition. And you won't run out of space, if you install some more apps.

I see. Thanks! Currently I have a 512MB EXT partition on my SD card. I thought I'd be able to choose which apps to move there but it seems my ROM automatically symlinks the apps installed to the EXT partition.
So I decided I want to just install the apps to NAND since I don't really install a lot of apps and I'm using a TMOUS HD2, just for an extra boost in performance compared to when apps are installed to SD-EXT. Then I'll just selectively move apps to SD.

Hi, I hope you guys are still around, I´ve been looking for an answer and can´t find anything, heres the question I posted on another thread:
I´ve been having trouble with my phone freezing even after full wipes, so I´ve come to the conclusion my sdcard is corrupt.
So I want to go through the Gparted process to format and re-partition my sdcard.
Currently I have 16GB class 6, which has the recommended FAT32 and 1GB ext4.
Is it safe (or even possible) to format the sd card now. I tried with Gparted and only the FAT32 partition showed up???
The rom is runnymede aio which requires the ext4
Thanks

[Q] SD card broken after partitioning ?

Hello xda !
I really don't understand a word about partitioning, but without the App2sd integrated in ICS and CM9, i really got a lack of space for my data.
So I tried to partition my 16GB sandisk cl4 sdcard with rom manager (i don't even know if the rom does support it...) in a 512MB partition size and 64MB swap size.
But now, my sdcard isn't recognized by my phone, and unable to be mounted. In CWM recovery, I can press "mount sdcard" which means it is not mounted yet, and i get an ERROR. :crying:
So i've got two questions:
- Is there a way to repear my sdcard (maybe by re-partitioning it in FAT32) and make it recognizable by my computer ?
- Is it possible to expand internal storage in our defy with CM9 to do Apps2sd ?
So if someone could help me, it would be...GREAT ! :good:
Baxt, an xda-lover.
PS: the data in the card had been saved on my computer so no problem about recovering it :victory:

use Linux and wipe it to zero...

Thanks i'm on windows so i'll try with mini tool partition wizard =)
EDIT: I chose FAT32 for the whole card, but should i choose logicial or primary ? What does that mean ?
Only use fat32 for primary....for secondary...use ext2 it will b fast.....but note then that partition will not b recognized in windows.....
Oh Nd...primary is d part where u will have ur songs n all...leave it to abt 13 gb.....d Rest format to ext2 and den use link2sd on ur phone....
N I wouldn't recommend swap on a cl4 card....it will significantly reduce ur card life....
Sent from my MB525 using xda app-developers app
Ok so I've Made two partition with mini tool partition wizard:
1 - FAT32 of 13.5 GB as "primary"
2 - EXT2 of 1.4 GB as "primary" too
Il choose "apply", each time it's a success but the EXT2 partition disapears and the FAT32 one takes the whole card (14.91GB) instead of the 13.5 I asked for.
Then, on the phone the sdcard is recognized as "damaged" so the phone ask me to format it, then I press ok, but I still have 14.91GB assigned to the UMS (Mass Storage) and no any 2nde partition (according to the Link2SD app).
What am I doing wrong ?
But really big thanks to you, my sdcard is working, that's the important !
(sorry for my bad english)
Choose logical!!!

For the EXT2 ? Already done, same result...
Sorry I don't have a PC to see d steps...but as far as I can remember...if u r using minitool ...den u need to click apply in the top left corner for every action.....
So...just format ur card again....den do delete all partitions...den partition ur card again....primary as fat32 and secondary(don't remember seeing logical...maybe so in newer version) as ext2.....remember to click apply after every step....oh btw one more thing....windows will not detect ur second ext2(which is a Linux fs) partition ever .....therefore mini tool will show dat part as unspecified or something.....just put it on ur mobile and run link2sd .....n select ur SD ext partition type(ext2) in d menu dat pops up......

Thanks, i know what I was doing wrong, I have used a usb cable through my phone instead of an sdcard adapter.
But now i don't know what I did, but my sdcard isn't recognized anywhere, even in mini tool... That's kinda anoying...
Just use an adapter to connect it to pc and reformat the SD card. Delete all the partitions and keep it to one only (primary).
I can't ! It doesn't apear in my computer (by adapter or USB) I can't see or do anything on it, from phone or computer...
Questions go in the Q&A section
Sorry I didn't really see it as a question.
But anyone could help me recovering my micro-SD ?
Best partioning tool is gparted. There are a lot of boot able CD images containing it. Or use a live CD (or on USB) of Ubuntu.
Try an adapter (maybe loan one from someone). See any link2sd guide for how.

Set-up micdoSD for Android Partition ext3 - Help Pleease.

Hi,
how are you today? For me good, thanks for asking, ha ha ha hanb
It's alredy my second thread for today, all problems, wow.
So I will try to explain, like in the thread before, I got HTC HD2 and I have Mdeejay eVo on my sd card and I launch Android from WM6.5.
The Android which I use have already the data_1024 folder, inside data.IMG file which it use for storage the Androids apps, but from my research I find the news to some how edit my microsd card and set-up a Partition which be the sobstitute of the data_1024.
I will be glad to know HOW?
Like I said, I got my Android on sd and I try for a week to find the solution with no success, I try to make a ext3 partition on sd of 2048mb but the android do not see that partition. I can't flash anything because on my ROM is WM 6.5.
I also will be glad to make another data_2048 folder with inside data.IMG file, if the Partition can't be done.
Please guys let me know how do I have set-up the partition for the Android?
Thanks.
hmmm not really sure here, but you can make a back up of your SD card then use minitool partition to partition & create EXt3/ Ext 4 / Fat 32 partitions, try the links below they might help

before post here I already saw your thread and like I said I do not have MALGDR on my phone or CWM, also I don't know which type of partition need my Android but I am sure is not the last type of Androids which they have the folders; kernel, META-INF, sdcard (inside NativeSD) and system folder. My Android is whit rootfs.img with external data_1024 folder for storage system.
I used Gparted live and I made a partition of 2048mb of ext3 partition but the Android do not see the partition because somehow I can't make a link to it.
I want more storage for my Android and delete data_1024 folder so I try to figure out, with some help, how to do that?
Any ideas?

If youwant to use apps 2 sd or link 2sd app from market to use ext 3.. Then you can move apps to sd ... That is for nand installs. . You don't need that on sd builds. ...
You try native sd builds. . Fastest ever.sd builds. . You can boot from wm also . You need ext4 partition for it. ..

I know the last Nand Androids are good but I have old phone with old Android and he work fine, I try to put Native SD Android on my sd but too complicated and I do not have so much time. At the moment I find Mdeejay very fast and good, I tryed AmeriCan Android, CM7 and 10 and really I am not comfortable with them like with Mdeejay, so it's ok like that. ! problem solver, I just try to update my kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976835 - and I am ok.
Thanks.

End of the Party, Guys, I was happy to soon!
I used toposize to made data.img for my android but I got problems.
If I resize data.img system partition, first of all, I got the error on e2fsck (see the pic) and i have to click ok to compleate the operation and after that I put the data.img into Anrdoid forlder and I replace the original (backups before) but the Android do not turn on, he stuck in HTC Logo.
If I made a clean data.img with ext3 system partition and I replace the data.img into the Android folder, he do not turn on and he stuck in Android logo.
If I use the original data.img from the package the Android turn on normally.
Do I forgot to do something? Do I missing something?
sorry, I forgot the pic.... here we go...

you are keeping data .img in a folder?...data.img should be in android folder..no further subfolders...and delete that stupid ext3 partition..you dont need it.
try native sd..it is very simple (for you to dual boot with windows mobile):
you need ext4 partition..use minitool partition manager to create it
then put selected rom zip (like pacman hd2 rom..."the best rom") on sd card
put 4ext recovery folder on sd card..open it , click clcrad and haret inside...follow screen instructions to install rom
Reboot and boot the ROM by executing the usual clcrad and haret stuff inside the NativeSD folder.
thats it.

ohh, well, yes, the data.img is in Android folder, not subfolders or external folders, I said so because in my package of Mdeejay are 2 folders, Android and data_1024. The data_1024 is all ready done to make a fast boot instantly but if I do not use it Android make the clean data into his root folder.
About the partition you get confused a little bit because when I used toporesize to made a clean data.img file to use it in android folder, the app ask me in which system the file have to be, ext2, ext3 or NONE. So no 1 of this data.img worked.
I hope I clarifide, I do not have ext3 partition on sd, is the data.img. that's all.

I don't know about that, currently I have a working Android (not jet set-up like I want too) but I will see if I sholud do all this stuff. I am not so deep in this stuuf and just reach when I reach now, get me tired. So I take in the consideration you advice but now I have to have 1 android working well.
Ok, some bad news:
I did in different way to set-up my storage image, I let Android to made a clean data.img into his folder, after he finished installation and start running well I take the data.img of 1GB and with toposize I resize the image to 3GB. Like I said before, he give me this crap error but I really do not understand why? If Android made a clean data.img in his folder which errors can be made?
So I click ok anyway and made this file and I replaced the 1GB with 3GB with unclarifide done error fix.
He works for feew hours, smooth and fast, I start installing appps and games. Like many games they ask for downloading some updated files so I start downloading 450mb for 1 game and after 20 minuts Android crashed and he do not turn on anymore, he stuck in Android logo.
Are you sure this crap "TOPOSIZE" working? or it's just ME?
Guys, please help, I get confused and I don't know how to do it.
Today I also try install on my android Chainfire and i can't install plugins for low storage so after few hours of serching I find this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16457164&postcount=14723 but after read what they saying I do not understand anymore which system file I have to resize to get more space AND to make working chainfire which I really need right now for few games!
Someone can tell me which files I have to resize? How? or Post the right thread? please.
