yes lots of quality photos of the black are definitely missing
How does the battery compare with the HOX? Currently on 40% battery with 2 hours screen time with the tegra 3 HOX! I hope the HTC One has double the effective screen time - will I be disappointed?
I saw a black one in a phones4u shop the other day.a dummie phone granted.nice colour.fingerprint magnet though I reckon. Still looks better though in black..

yes finger prints was the main deciding factor for me (Besides the need to change)
write more about the display..
After seeing the DHD stripped down to bare aluminium I have to say the Silver approach really appeals to me.....Can't beat a bit of metal in your hand!

Yes, you'll be disappointed - there's no way you'll get double the screen on time of the One X.

Yes, triple if you mean that 60% usage of the hox battery is equivalent to almost 100% of the one battery?
Anyway, there are guys who manage to get 5-6 hours screen on with the hox, I doubt the one will double that. I'm just waiting to see everyday averages.

I know everyones usage differs, and there are different tests that apply to some and not to others, and some phones perform some activities better or more efficiently than others, but i'm really keen to see what the difference between the HOX and HO is. For instance, HTC One X get's 4 hours web browsing compared to 6 and a half hours on the Xperia z, where as the HTC One X+ get's almost 8 hours (!) according to gsmarena!
http://blog.gsmarena.com/sony-xperia-z-battery-test-is-ready-here-come-the-scores/
Larger battery, more efficient SOC... who knows. Maybe double is possible?

I think a healthy assumption would be for around a 15-20% increase. You have to remember that with the bigger battery and more efficient processor etc there's a higher res screen to counter that.

But then how does the Sony Xperia get +50% more battery life than a HOX, web browsing with a less efficient chip and a bigger, higher res screen?
I mean, this is the problem. People say battery the One is better than the Xperia, then worse than Nexus 4 or just average - so much FUD and confusion. It's leaving me on edge.

Traditionally HTC phones are much more heavily customised and themed by HTC themselves so that could be something to do with it.....Though I might go back on my previous statement after playing with the phone as sense 5 is meant to be a lot less 'bloaty' (for want of a better word) then previous sense versions. So perhaps the battery might fare a lot better thanks to this!

I've had my N1 (Rogers capable version) since May. I've had the Desire HD (Telus, using on Rogers) since Thursday, and have since rooted, unlocked, etc...
Both are running CM7 RC1 with custom kernals (pershoot for N1, and hrkfdn's for the Desire HD). They are setup identically, aside from CPU speed (1.1 vs 1.2 GHz) and governors.
A lot of these are personal preference and/or things that need getting used too. I love the N1 though... If it matters, I have "normal"/slightly larger size male hands.
Build/Design - The Desire HD is gorgeous. Love the clean slate with minimal bezel. It is noticeably heavier though and obviously larger. To be honest, it will take some getting used to the size and not using trackball to wake. The power button can be a little awkward (for now) to reach. You also will need a case for this phone. Besides protection, it is thin, big, and a little slippery.
Screen - Beside the obvious size difference, I think I like SLCD a bit better than regular AMOLED. No capacitive button issues (I have to remember I don't have to press toward the top on the DHD), no screen wonkiness, and super responsive (perhaps a bit too much).
Responsiveness/Speed - Now, the DHD is clocked 100MHz faster. Beyond that, it is noticeably more fluid and responsive. I don't game on my phone, so I can't comment on that. Overall however, it is faster. Quadrant scores are around 1900-2000 (vs 1500 or so on the N1).
Battery - I'm currently fully discharging my DHD for the third time, and then I'll start charging it "normally". I also haven't been using it as my day to day because I still don't have a case. After next week I'll be able to get a better impression. Thus far it seems decent. The N1 seems to have better battery life as it stands, but we'll see after a week or 2 of breaking it in. It is nice to see the battery going all the way down to 1% though on the DHD (N1 dies at 15% or so and yes I know I should calibrate).
Misc - I'm going to miss the trackball. Trackball wake and especially notifications. I loved the multi-colour alerts with succession. Looking across the room (literally and seeing everything I missed is great). This will be tough to lose. Also there are currently sound issues with the DHD when using custom (I think just non-sense) ROM's. It does sound "tinny", but it's certainly tolerable, and no doubt there will be a fix sometime soon.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and just need to get used to some new things after using something so frequently for that length of time.
My 2 cents for anyone that might be considering the DHD.
Great opinion! I'm also a N1 user who was thinking of the DHD. I didn't get it afterall.

Haha, same.
Was considering one as I reckon I could sell the N1 for what a DHD costs.
I think Incredible S is worth the wait, all the advantages of the DHD + better battery and newer Sense, the screen is smaller by 0.3'' but larger than N1 by 0.3'' too
I'm just wondering, is htcsense.com working for you? My friend got a DHD but htcsense.com will not load the tabs at the top.

So! Does it mean that it's pretty normal that N1's are dying at 5-15% of battery? Does calibration (root needed?) would really help in this case?
I appreciate your opinion and comparison It may be helpful

I was going to get a DHD, but have the DHD software running on my N1 anyway now.
If I were to get any phone now, it would be the Galaxy S II or the Atrix.

yes you need to calibrate to fix this on your n1. the link in my sig is an app I/we created. it goes into your battery, and there are a bunch of memory addresses in each battery chip. one of them is the "age" register, you need to adjust yours accordingly to allow the full range of percentage to be used. that's why it dies at 15% right now.

Thank you I saw that thread, but couldn't make my lazy ass to do it, when I was rooted on 2.2.1 Maybe it's time to use unlocked bootloader once again I'd like to ask you about one little thing: Does it matter (for calibrating) how old is the battery or how many charging cycles it has?
Sorry for OT

prob should read that thread (though i know its super long now). the short answer is the older your battery, the lower your age will be because the cells have lost charging capacity. do a learn cycle to determine the exact decrease in age. but if you wanted to guess, i'd install the app, manually set age to 85% and that would get you pretty close to what i'd guess your actual age is now.
i had sensation as second phone so i would like to share my feelings.
I purchased this flagship from HTC having HTC desire S, and also HD. Desire S is owned by my wife atm and she is happy enough. so i like HTC - thats for start
First feelings - impressed- nice phone. Got it - charged to full and lets rock!
Booting and starting to check out system. after 1 hour with screen on + wifi my battery went down to 35% - i say ok its the first cycle lets wait. - after one week its the same. if u wanna watch movie in plane while flying for about 2 hours u better take spare battery - not saying there is no divx support at all.
- keeping sync on gmail and just stand by eats the battery about 10% a hour! not touching the device at all.
-i though ok, lets live with pure battery anyway. but then it started. while holding the phone in landscape - death grip is saying HELLLOOOO i am here! loosing conectivity is normal - wifi disapear - signal went down 2. amazing. i coudlnt believe it. i had never suffered from anything like that -talking about HTC.
-web browsing - no hardware acerelation at all means opening web sites with heavy flash content is taking ages. not mentioning zoom in or out during the stream. while SGS2 can keep streaming during the zooming interval without any lags or issues! i was disapointed a badly. i can see small plus with the resolution - u can feel small diference - i mean better - sharper pages. but not brigther or lighter - the display is so reflective that u can use it as mirror and using the phone under direct sunnlight is almost impossible. so one more +handy mirror
someone rings you? hm how can u hear the phone if the volume set on max is extremly low - even my dog cant hear it!!! if u wanna share some youtube video with your friends they gotta put thems ears on the back panel in order to enjoy it. another disapointment - a big one. not speaking about the quality of the speaker (poor anyway) its about the noise level - being extremly low.
i said ok i like HTC so lets find something i can like/enjoy and finally be happy about.
camera/compare to SGS2 is a bit disapointing again. double flash doesnt help. i could paint better pics then sensation can make. i mean it.macro? what is it?
so i kept going and trying - still searching with hope i will like something.
i though ok i will use it as gps navigation in car at least. lol what a fail. after 4 hours on gps battery dead! maybe i am gonna develop double car charger 2in1 in order to keep sensation alive.
no i am not HTC hater at all. but the huge disapointment that HTC made this time is deadly bad. They made nice looking compact device without brain. its like ferrari with skoda engine and seats from seat. i though it will bring something extraordinary and special - even after installing costum roms - the battery improved and speed 2 - not browsing speed and the battery went up from 8 hours moderate use to 8 hours and 10 min - not mentioning juice defender on at all the times ofc.
so i just changed the sensation on local advertising web site for another SGS2 - u set the add and then meet the possible costumer in person.
and i told the guy that i made the deal with him - lets exhchange hurry - and now i will tell u what u did. U could see his frozen face! He become my friend now and after having almost all previous HTC devices he said he wont come back untill something better will be developed - on HTC side.
SO happy days guys here. And just small tip - sensation is the only one device getting closer in terms off hardware to SGS2 - but the reall power of SGS2 is deep in THE SKY!
I hope this will help some people with doubs about battery life and performance issues.
Once again - i have nothing against HTC and i like them, but i believe they didnt set up sensation well atm. looking at stats list it should perform much better then it does. just quick example - i dont like quadrant or bench tests once its fast and smooth i dont need any bench to confirm that. but the highest i could get from sensation was 3400 on quandrant with 1600 OC!!!!! lol
so i will end this with words;
HAPPY BRIGHT DAYS WITH SAMSUNG
forgive me for my broken english

The Sensation is seeming more and more like an interim flagship. The E3D already has more RAM and from everything posted Sense 3.0 is a pig and needs all it can get. The Vigor on Verizon is going to have a full 720p display and a 1.5ghz processor. The Holiday on AT&T is going to have a 4.5" qHD display and also 1GB of RAM. By the end of the year the Sensation's going to be forgotten.

I've only just recently jumped onto android after owning every iphone, the sensation was a handset I was considering but reviews put me off.
The two things that made me avoid it were the lack of amoled, and the apparent locked bootloader.
I never got round to playing with a sensation as the store had no demo models.
I am happy enough with my galaxy s so far though

If I had to guess, I'd say either a SGS2.5 or SGS3 will be out before the holidays. The Nexus 3/Prime is supposed to be out in October and the advances I mentioned above in the two HTC phones will probably prompt Samsung to release something higher end. Think about this though. They just updated and are continuing to sell a version of the SGS1 and it's been out for over a year. So the SGS2 may not be state-of-the-art by Christmas but it should still very much be current.
honestly i believe u can use SGS2 for about an year - untill another companies will reach its level. and SGS2 will last on the top untill SGS3 will be released. and the date inst confirmed yet. but SGS1 is still a good phone. if u dont have enough money or dont wanna waste it just stay where u ar and wait for bargain to upgrade.

Thanks.
That's one thing I find overwhelming coming from apple phones, android has so many handsets running so many different versions of the operating system.
With an apple handset you're pretty much fine for a year, though you have to put up with the restrictive nature of ios.
Ah well either way I'm going to try and keep hold of this handset for 12 months, unless something really tempts me to "upgrade"

I appreciate the OP's comments as I have been wondering how the HTC sensation fares compared to the SGS2. I also find it funny that the HTC battery seems to be a little worse than SGS2 especially given the complaints by some SGS2 users about battery life. I can watch about 5 hours of video on mine no problem.

I have the Sensation as well and the battery life on it is pretty bad. On the SGS2 with moderate to heavy use I get about 16-18 hours. WIth the Sensation it's a miracle if I get 10. There are two things about the Sensation that are better than the SGS2 and only one is of any practical significance. The first is the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct function on the HTC device is excellent and is far better than Samsung's stock keyboard. The other is weather. No one comes close to what HTC has done with their weather UI. It's nice eye candy but that's about it.

I wouldnt know what to feel if something new and better comes out before the end of the year, If they are going nvidia quadcore (Kal-El) then its highly possible they are gonna out a 720P screen as its been in production already.. I wonder if they improved anything aside from bumping the res.
The SGS1 was the fastest phone for almost a year when it got released. NOTHING from the competition could compare when it came down to pure specs last year.
The Desire HD and iPhone 4 were the closest competition, and the SGS1 always won out in benchmarks and in IRL usage.
I would say that the SGS2 will probably not be trumped until early next year. The Nexus Prime will probably have similar innards as the SGS2

iRL usage there are some few aspects the the Iphone4 is faster but other usage scenarios the S1 was faster and was even far more functional than the Iphone4.
Im pretty sure Iphone5 will be targeted to compete with the S2, Infact I even wish the Iphone5 would be better + faster in the majority of tests so that Samsung and Google can hurry up ang release the S3 and ICS.

Given that loads of us have been burned by the poor battery lives of previous HTC phones, I can imagine many of us are waiting for news on the performance of this phone in this arena.
However, there are a few bright in regards to what the HTC Ones battery performance might be:
<[email protected]>
Snapdragon 600 / APQ8064Pro should be considerably better on battery than the Tegra 3, so yeah it should be way improved.
Click to collapse
Compared to the HTC Droid DNA which had superior battery life to the HTC One X due to using the S4 processor over the Tegra 3, the 28nm S600 should have perhaps even better performance.
It doesn't seem like the major reviewers have been given test units yet but I would be surprised if a few weren't floating out in the wild... Even with, what may not be the final release software, if you have the HTC One to hand, how has battery life been performing for you?
I'm looking forward to collecting all the battery life info on this beast before release as this may probably be the most important factor influencing whether or not I buy this device
And if you don't have a review unit, what type of battery life would you be looking for? On my current HTC One X, I could get 4-5 hours of continuous screen time usage with screen brightness at minimum, I'm hoping for about +7 hours.
Isnt it 28nm?
Smaller screen than the Droid DNA and a larger battery... the performance should be better...
But I expected the Xperia Z to perform better than it actually did.. Waiting for the initial reviews.

I would be highly interested as to the battery life compared to the One X+. Surely the smaller build of the One cpu should have an edge over the One X, but the display resolution of the One could
be the downside in terms of power consumption.

Has anyone read any updates on day to day battery life?
I think it is too early to tell as from what I read the phones which are on demo or reviewed don't have the final software so any sites stating about battery life will need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Battery life
The results obtained by HTC One to be counted as the better ones. During our tests, the smartphone stand all day intensive work - video, pictures, filming, listening to music and performance testing. By extrapolation, we can say that the battery HTC One at a more moderate use of the smartphone's enough even for two days which was confirmed by a further two days of testing. Is that a lot? It is difficult to relate to us, as it is the first smartphone with Full HD screen, which we test, but compared with products equipped with HD screens, the result should be treated with respect.

Can't wait to see how long will it last with blinkfeed disabled I can see that it's the most power hungry feature of HTC One.
I'm surprised that the people with the device haven't commented on battery life yet...

Do you want to tell everyone your thoughts about your HTC One? Well, this is the place to do it. Any reviews which are posted in their own thread will be closed and copied into this thread instead.
As always, when posting in here all forum rules apply as well as the rules posted below
Moderator Notice
After having a discussion, we have decided to reopen this thread once again. To make sure this thread stays open this time around there are a couple of guidelines we expect you all to stick to.
*No off topic/irrelevant conversations
*No asking questions which could be found from a simple search OR better suited to a separate thread in the Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum
*No direct phone comparisons (just as set forth by the rules for our section). Comparing features such as camera/audio quality etc. is fine but no directly comparing the HTC One to the SGS5 for example
The above reasons were what caused this thread to be closed last time so hopefully it won't happen this time around.
I just loved the photos of the device itself
Ill be collecting the reviews as well in the mega thread, thanks
They are also complaining that the speakers are too loud lol
The camera photos look awesome as well
Don't know what the complaining about

Dial a phone claiming the screen on the Z is better? ok now this is why I don't trust reviews, as this guy has to be having a laugh I have held both phones side by size and while I dont think the xz's screen is crap in anyway the HTC screen is superior.

I love both HTC and Sony but I am not biased to either OEM.
Not sure they are claiming the XZ screen is better, the way i took it is that when you first see the XZ there is a wow factor, but then after actually looking at it and using it, you come to realise that it isn't up to scratch. I reckon that's what he means by the "breathtaking impression"
Just my opinion though
A mate of mine was 100% set for the Z until he saw the HTC One now he all is over that like a rash!

I do wish people would quote accurately from reviews. What the dial-a-phone guy actually says is
The 4.7-inch super LCD 3 screen may not be as bright and dazzling as that of the Sony Xperia Z but still offers a clarity that is pretty much unmatched amongst mobile devices.

"Bright and dazzling" could simply be a reference to maximum screen brightness, or it could be that he likes over-saturated colours and is a fan of the Xperia's Bravia processing.
I'm skeptical of that Dialaphone review. He says some of your apps may be "tucked away further then you'd like" because of the BlinkFeed stuff, which is completely incorrect. Just don't use BlinkFeed for God's sake. Set another default screen (which he says is possible) and never look at it again. I just cannot understand that argument or how he thinks the Xperia Z's screen is better when every other hands-on, preview, write up, etc about the One says that it has the best display. Same goes for the tinny speakers, that is the first I've heard of them being tinny.

After reading through the review and watching the video, the way he presents it definitely makes it sound like he thinks the Xperia Z's screen is better. He doesn't even reference viewing angles which should be a huge part of a screen review and we know the One outperforms the Z in that area. Plus, as a reviewer, he should make his opinion clearer. If he is insinuating that he only likes the Z's screen because it is brighter, he should say that or at least give a clear indication to what he prefers (in this case, I took it as the Z's).
And what he actually says about the speakers is
Those stereo speakers we mentioned earlier also increase the handset’s abilities, although their use is limited. The HTC One struggles to produce low frequencies and we don’t imagine these will ever truly replace headphones or external speakers.

That's perfectly fair: you shouldn't expect deep bass from speakers that size. (But he doesn't use the word "tinny").
He does in the video review.

Oh, okay.
i do find it interesting what each review says about the battery.
The fact neither give any sort of details like brightness and wifi on off, 4g on off etc..etc...
Benchmark seems very impressed while dialaphone seemed dissapointed that it wouldnt last a whole day,
yet mentions several hours of streaming music and heavy usage.
If the phone lasted pretty much whole day on that kind of usage i will be chuffed. Means the way i use my phone
i will get 2 days out of it easy. (or i might just change my habbits and keep wifi and full brightness on because i could )

That was me aswell, I was set for the Z until I saw the one and decided the one was the ONE.
Ok so I FINALLY got my ONE today!! Happy to be one of the minority as not many people have this phone yet
After months of videos, articles, threads on xda and various articles the time is here.
These are my first impressions as I've had the phone for a good 12hours now. First time you take it out of the box is just WOW this thing is just quality...100% premium feeling and truly well crafted well done HTC. Its really light and it's quite tall (compared to my old desire hd).
When you turn it on you will be blown away/scared by how loud these speakers are, boomsound is not a joke people this is the real deal! Then listen to some music on this, it sounds awesome. There is even some bass in it which pleased me the most! Really, really loud I gurantee no need for dock or portable speakers.
The screen is mindblowing, especially when your coming from a device with 800x400 resolution like me. The difference is just incredible. Colours are vibrant and natural at the same time unlike the over saturated, way to contrast high colours on the AMOLED. Viewing angles are perfect and it's really bright, I had to turn it down because it stared burning my eyes :/ lol! Blacks are good and whites are good and not blue or yellow.
Sense 5 is just sexy as f***k <3 touchwiz has no comparison against this tbh! Everything looks sleek and very clean. No bloat and actually is better than stock...stock is just too plain imho. I don't like some things like the new way to move apps to your homescreen from the app drawer. The three dot menu but hopefully HTC fix that in an update, if not then I'm going to root this so that's cool. Blinkfeed is ok, I can see that it won't be liked by everyone. I'm already slightly bored of it! When HTC let us add sources I can see this being a success, I know I'd use it more if you liked the hundred plus widget selection of the past HTC sense versions then you may not like that a lot of the widgets are gone! I think this is a good thing I can see that HTC are trying to make you use blinkfeed as your homescreen and the app drawer as the traditional type home screen by alloowing you to make folders.
Regarding music, beats audio is classed as a gimmick and the headphones as overpriced. I agree on the second claim and used to think the same for beats audio before. But it seems as if they have actually made it good and optimised it. It makes the speakers and music played through headphones MUCH MUCH better.
The notification light has pleased me also. It bright and is seen very easily.
The phone has been lag free. A major step up from my single core desire hd super fast, can have like 20 apps open with no lag at all. Multitasking is soo good.
I've already got used to the button layout. Only messed up like twice hopefully the HTC logo thing becomes a real thing.
The phone came with like 45% battery, (5.00pm) after HEAVY HEAVY usage as I'm sure everyone does when they get a new toy it does on me at 1.30am. So 8hours of constant hammerage seems reallllyyy good so far!! Havent gone through a proper cycle of charged it fully yet so can't say anything else on the battery.
However, the phone does tend to get a bit warm every know and then. Not like ohh it's burning but just slightly warm which is expected with most of these quad core beasts.
I took a couple of random pics with the camera, looking good so far but that's on the phones screen and just random ish. Haven't tested front facing cam or video recording yet.
Last point for now (I know I'm forgetting a lot of things)... The phone is quite slippery seeing as I am the only numpty who would end up dropping his phone from ABOVE WAIST HEIGHT within a couple of hours of use. To my surprise not even a scratch, nothing to be seen on the phone. Almost had a mini heart attack but it proved that it's well built
Ohh and the power button is kinda flush so hard to find at times but I'm already getting used to it. The screen also seems to be very good at hiding fingerprints
That's all for now, time to fully charge this badboy and get some sleep myself.

How did you reach up to 20 apps? Don't tell me the multitasking window is now scrollable also? If yes that would be great! And yeah Congratulations for the first ever drop test of the HTC One You beat the reviewers to it

No lool the multitasking can only show 9 apps...but im pretty sure I had A LOTT of apps opened at once with no lags. Yup, if only i had a camera set up! 1st drop test of htc one (uninentional) it almost gave me a heart attack man aha :/ only had it for 2 hours at that point

Do a test on the video camera at 1080p and review it on a pc.. Every review that has actually done a video test has looked like the FPS still drops in the low 20's which has been pretty typical of every HTC phone I've seen, especially in low light.

Do you like camera quality?
Good review can't stop playing even though had since Friday and being in the official HTC case with it stops it slipping for me.

Stopped reading after this. It was an overly enthusiastic story to begin with but this was the limit. Eight hours of "constant hammerage" with a 45% battery charge to begin with. Alrighty. And everybody just swallows this like it's the truth? Best phone ever. Best battery ever. Simply amazing. Will get the phone myself as well but these stories (20 apps open, really, how DO you know?!) are so useless, with all due respect

The Z and One are beautiful phones. Two of the best built and looking phones ever created in my opinion.
