Given that loads of us have been burned by the poor battery lives of previous HTC phones, I can imagine many of us are waiting for news on the performance of this phone in this arena.
However, there are a few bright in regards to what the HTC Ones battery performance might be:
<[email protected]>
Snapdragon 600 / APQ8064Pro should be considerably better on battery than the Tegra 3, so yeah it should be way improved.
Click to collapse
Compared to the HTC Droid DNA which had superior battery life to the HTC One X due to using the S4 processor over the Tegra 3, the 28nm S600 should have perhaps even better performance.
It doesn't seem like the major reviewers have been given test units yet but I would be surprised if a few weren't floating out in the wild... Even with, what may not be the final release software, if you have the HTC One to hand, how has battery life been performing for you?
I'm looking forward to collecting all the battery life info on this beast before release as this may probably be the most important factor influencing whether or not I buy this device
And if you don't have a review unit, what type of battery life would you be looking for? On my current HTC One X, I could get 4-5 hours of continuous screen time usage with screen brightness at minimum, I'm hoping for about +7 hours.
Isnt it 28nm?
Smaller screen than the Droid DNA and a larger battery... the performance should be better...
But I expected the Xperia Z to perform better than it actually did.. Waiting for the initial reviews.

AW: Battery Life?
I would be highly interested as to the battery life compared to the One X+. Surely the smaller build of the One cpu should have an edge over the One X, but the display resolution of the One could
be the downside in terms of power consumption.
I don't know how this turns out, what to you think?

I've read that on Qualcomm's website
Has anyone read any updates on day to day battery life?
I think it is too early to tell as from what I read the phones which are on demo or reviewed don't have the final software so any sites stating about battery life will need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
according to a review the batterlife is :

Battery life
The results obtained by HTC One to be counted as the better ones. During our tests, the smartphone stand all day intensive work - video, pictures, filming, listening to music and performance testing. By extrapolation, we can say that the battery HTC One at a more moderate use of the smartphone's enough even for two days which was confirmed by a further two days of testing. Is that a lot? It is difficult to relate to us, as it is the first smartphone with Full HD screen, which we test, but compared with products equipped with HD screens, the result should be treated with respect.

Battery, it drains like mad when in use. Its terrible compared to other smartphones out there. Screen is fine if you dont get about viewing angles. Its a good phone, dont get me wrong but I'm a heavy user and this phone cant get me through a day out so need to get something else. My iPhone 5 gets through the day and my S3 did. Not trying to put you off getting one, we all have different needs.

I see. I only ask because you were genuinely excited about the Xperia Z. Shame the battery couldn't live up to your requirements.
The battery issue won't be resolved unless OEMs stop competing for the 'slimmest smartphone' title and start slapping 3000mAh+ batteries on their phones ala Motorola
Samsung and LG do the same but only on their humungous phablets. Can't comment on the S4 but, as much as I dislike Samsung, i doubt they'll ever compromise on battery.

I have a feeling that you'll end up with an S4 at the end with it's 3200mAh or so battery. Although early reports indicate the the HTC One has slightly better battery than the XZ - mainly whilst watching videos ( 8ish hours vs 6ish hours, as per expertreviews).
Good luck!

thank you all guys I heard the note II has an amazing battery life
Battery life on the z could be better but it's comparable to S3 and Nexus 4 so I'm happy. I'm getting a charging dock or two and my car charger is 1a and charges the phone on AC so I'm more than chuffed as all my other phones only charged up to max 650ma on USB charging mode.
As for the one, battery life will be as awful as every other HTC released and the 4mp camera will be useless unless you only upload to instagram or Facebook.
Battery life is comparable to Nexus 4, but not to SIII, that one has much better battery life. Of these three I like XZ the most, but all of them have their pros and cons.

Anyway, there are guys who manage to get 5-6 hours screen on with the hox, I doubt the one will double that. I'm just waiting to see everyday averages.

I know everyones usage differs, and there are different tests that apply to some and not to others, and some phones perform some activities better or more efficiently than others, but i'm really keen to see what the difference between the HOX and HO is. For instance, HTC One X get's 4 hours web browsing compared to 6 and a half hours on the Xperia z, where as the HTC One X+ get's almost 8 hours (!) according to gsmarena!

Larger battery, more efficient SOC... who knows. Maybe double is possible?

I think a healthy assumption would be for around a 15-20% increase. You have to remember that with the bigger battery and more efficient processor etc there's a higher res screen to counter that.

But then how does the Sony Xperia get +50% more battery life than a HOX, web browsing with a less efficient chip and a bigger, higher res screen?
I mean, this is the problem. People say battery the One is better than the Xperia, then worse than Nexus 4 or just average - so much FUD and confusion. It's leaving me on edge.

Traditionally HTC phones are much more heavily customised and themed by HTC themselves so that could be something to do with it.....Though I might go back on my previous statement after playing with the phone as sense 5 is meant to be a lot less 'bloaty' (for want of a better word) then previous sense versions. So perhaps the battery might fare a lot better thanks to this!

At the time Note 2 was released, these were killer specs and its still a very functional and modern phone. Full HD display is a buzzword of this time and frankly speaking I dont care about it that much. Note 2's display is sharp enough. Full HD display takes its toll on battery and CPU/GPU too.
Larger battery? Boss this is the first Android phone that I have owned which works without charging for two days with quite heavy use. They way you are saying it, even if they had given 5000 mah battery you would have been saying....bah! Only 5000 mah, it should have been 8000 mah at least
I know the more the better but there has to be an appropriate limit. Note 2 is arguably one of the best phones of its time and it still rocks. Sucks is a word you cannot use in its context.

Of all the sites, I find GSMArenas review process to be one of the most thorough & reputable
Here's their take on the Z1
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z1-review-987.php
It's all pretty good, right until you come to the frankly bewildering browser & video playing battery life.
Hopefully it's something that can be addressed in firmware as the talktime & standby time are pretty good.

Note, they call out the lack of HDR for images. HDR isn't an option in Superior Auto, or when you go manual and bump to full resolution; however, if you drop the resolution in manual to 8MP, HDR is indeed there. With how fast the images take, I'm surprised they didn't leave HDR as an option for the 20MP resolution, but hey, they probably have their reasons.
There are 2 HDR modes as well. Just shows how unthorough the review was.
I dont understand why companies think it is ok to release buggy phones. The Z1 really needs an update, espcially on the camera. Battery life is excellent
Generaly I like the test of GSM Arena but not this one, because they fail on the 2 major point of the phone, the screen and the camera.
For the camera they said that they're not impressed. Yes but they couldn't make a good with the default of the lens of the pre-unit they had. So they can't juge this point.
The second one is the screen. It's maybe not the best, the HTC One or the LG G2 are maybe better. But the S4 screen isn't better than the one of the Z1. I have both and I made some test. When the contrast is better on the S4, the color are false. When the color are right (in video mode), the contrast and the brightness is better on the Z1 screen.
It's hard to compare side by side. It's like buying a TV at best buy or Fry's. You're in the showroom and you can nitpick from one TV to another. Get any one by itself and you probably wouldn't have any problems with any of them (beyond defects and/or missing features and whatnot). Most users wouldn't know the difference.
I dont trust gsmarena, they are too biased towards Samsung, ill wait until technobuffalo or someone else review the z1
It looks like Sony rushed the product.
Battery life : lets hope firmware update improves it.
Camera : lets hope blah blah same as above
Screen : not guaranteed. Lets hope blah blah
If this is the case then why not lets see if the z2 is better and then buy that.

A firmware update is not going to fix the battery life. Otherwise the Z wouldn't be as anemic as it is. Weak video and browser times.
Yeah the battery life had me scared the most since my phone is on its way in the mail.
How can they make a phone with the same SoC as the G2, same batterysize, and a smaller screen, and it gets half the browsing and videotime as the G2. Sounds like software to me.
Also when you pull up the camera comparison on gsm arena, the Z1 pictures doesn't even stand a chance against the S4 or G2.

Reviews based on pre-production units only make confusion because you'll never be sure if they changed something in the final unit or not. There might be a small update in the firmware for example that changes how the phone performs. I'm surprised Sony Mobile gives out pre-release devices for reviews.
And based on this GSM Arena review the battery life is very poor, half of what other competitors achieve (LG G2).

Perhaps it is weird. I can't say I'm a tech guru but it just feels like it's a power-hungry screen. Did Sony spend so much time beefing up screen quality that it neglected (or felt it warranted the sacrifice of) battery life? I don't know, but I get the impression that this is the case.
I doubt software optimisation is going to change much, but I do accept the possibility that I could be wrong.

Agreed, although I add the caveat that if there's any firmware change or a new unit, GSM Arena are likely to redo those parts of the review and update (like they did on the HTC 1 when that too had non final software)
Rate this thread to express how well you can see the HTC U11+'s display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

441 I think...
How can this screen support HDR with less than 500 nits... lmao
The u11+ screen is different from the u11. We don't know how many nits it has.
It wont sell on this price tag
According to the GSMArena test (third page), the screen tops out at 300 nits...

If the battery and display are as they say, the phone will be sent back lol.
This is disappointing and epic tragic result if that true to all htc u11 plus device when release.
I will return it immediately back to HTC.
I can’t imagine HTC made such epic fail flagships device ever.
Hope review unit of gsmarena was faulty.
And even battery life is completely disaster and totally unacceptable for almost 4000 battery capacity.
It’s lower than all device out there with 3000 it’s even worse than 2700 battery capacity of Sony XZ1.
Total unbelievable and frustrating.

That’s believed from beginning.
Total crap review from GSM with faulty device.
They didn’t even had retail box of the device instead he showed us from the regular HTC U11.

GSM should have known it`s a defective unit& redo the test before posting the review. How come only they get subpar battery life results on U11+ while others report great battery life and a nice screen?
Personally, I think it`s important to get a review right the first time especially it is quite a reputable site.

I wouldn't be so sure, it could be that HTC are having trouble with the new LCD6 display.

Well until now only GSM is writing the worst things.
All the other reviewers like those Android central not mention such issues with both battery life and screen quality.
Also all user here at XDA having the device are very pleased with overall quality and performance on the U11 plus.

Android central said that the battery life provided between 4 and 7 hours of screen on time which isn't very impressive.
4 to 7 hours SOT is very good battery life.
I imagine the 4 hours SOT is with LTE most of the case and high brightness level and 7 hours with most WiFi and lower brightness lever for example 40-50%
With my Galaxy S8 plus that’s the SOT I get so as I can see HTC has the same behavior and no problem.
Now I’m having one week now Huawei P10 and having 5 hours SOT per day mixed WiFi-LTE usage.
So judging from that the battery life for HTC is above average and on par with my previous S8 plus and current P10.

My point with that statement is that a key feature of the phone is a HUGE battery which comes at the cost of weight. Now if this extra 30g of unwanted weight isn't able to provide more battery life than say the LG v30 then it seems really quite bad.
