Hello everyone, I have a problem, first of all I want to say that I disabled all synch, all google services , all wakelock works good. But I get around of 3 h. sreen usage a day( I think it's strange cuz many of n4 users get 5-6 h. of screen usage), on high CPU usage or in 3D games in 1 minute battery level may decrease around 10% , If I browse everuthing is allright, but all the games get my battery killed in a minutes. I have CM 10.1 and matrix kernel without GPU OC plus decreased volts on CPU, So my battery is bad or what? any help?
That is odd. I would suggest to flash stock kernel and stock 4.2.2 . See if that fixes the problem.
3 hours of screen time is average. 5 to 6 would be Highly unusual.

I've flashed 4.2.2 stock rom, now get lower score in antutu (around 17k) I tested rom that way: for 100% cpu and gpu load I played 2 h. in real racing 3 and 1 h. of benchmarks. So I have such a results, what you think is it normal or not?
forgot to say about 100% brightness
Odp: Terrible battery drain on high CPU usage
That's pretty strange. When I flash CM10.1 my antutu score was low. Also when I flash on CM10.1 faux kernel I got multiple crashes so I revert back to stock with enhanced faux kernel. Battery is average and about 17000 score in antutu on stock CPU settings. I think CM work correct with CM stock kernel. In my other phone SGR CM10.1 is super stable.

On CM 10.1 I get about 19k score with matrix kernel 21k result. But when I load cpu&gpu to 100% with games or navigation battery level may instantly decrease by 10%, u can see in 3rd sreen (1st post). Battery discharging schedule is not smooth, I've never seen before such a problem on other android phones. By the way, on stock temp. on full load was around 43 C. on CM 10.1 and matrix was around 49 C.
Also asking for help. Is the battery of Nexus 4 so bad? I am using the stock kernel. And i dropped 3% in half hour without doing anything.

At 100% brightness, and playing a graphics heavy game. I'd say you're perfectly fine.

One day on battery is pretty damn good
That is normal if you are on 100% brightness
I don't play games and have my brightness set at 25% for normal use and the phone lasts for 2 days at least...
Last night I went to sleep with 42% battery and woke up today with 38%
Not too shabby... but I just got the phone 3 days ago, so will see how it reacts after a few cycles...
I'm on XenonHD 6.0 with Faux kernel (it's the one they integrated in the ROM)
Hope that helps!

I'm currently running turl1's v8 with the kernel that comes with it. I've read about people having this issue with faux'd kernel and that they fixed it by using the one is turl's build. I've attached a pic of the Time in State screen from SetCPU.

I am using jokersax 0.3.1. Same issue.
do you guys have profiles set?
Only based on temperature. Do you?
I have profiles set when the screen turns off and such.
I still have idle problems, but its masked a little if you underclock to 912. and with hardware acceleration you can hardly notice it.
I I did have the idling problem with previous builds so I switched to turls1's. When the new 0.3.1 came out I switched back. I also changed from setcpu to antutu cpu master pro, and now it idles correctly.
I'm using turl1's V8 Kang with faux123 025 beta kernel (1.0Ghz), and here is my CPU freq for something like a week.
I use a profile for screen off- 216-608.
Now mine looks a lot better. But I didn't change anything..??
I'm not using a profile on mine either. I think I'm going to try faux's kernel and see if it improves any. I think I would get fairly great battery life if I could resolve this issue. I got down to only 84% after moderate screen time and video and music playback today with over 8 hours off of the charger. Most time was spent in 312Mhz with 608Mhz being the next highest and 216Mhz as the third.

My cpu seems to be working great on turl's v8 with the default kernel. I was getting pretty poor battery life on joker's ROM, but on Turls v8 I'm getting the best I've ever had; stock or not.

Running Jocker's latest with the latest Faux 1.3GHz kernel.
Idles mostly at 456MHz.
Something wrong there.
After flashing faux's 1Ghz kernel and setting a profile for screen off @216Mhz it has greatly improved. Although it seems any time the screen is on it never hits 216. My battery life didn't seem to get any better either which I find odd.

another vote for turl fixing batt life.
No idea why some people are so good on faux's but a large proportion have these massive problems.
I switched to turls v8 with the kernel it comes with and now my battery life and cpu usages are great!
told ya, mine looks around the same
tried to feed it back in jokersax forum, not sure if he's picked up on it or not, theres plenty of people saying 'great batt life' but theres enough of us out there who aren't getting that (and whom get decent results with turl). Maybe there are subtle hw differences in certain batches or revisions of the SoC or something like that.

I've never seen my atrix idle like that.
are you sure? Mine idled similar to that in CM7, now CM9 turl build.
In jokersax build (stock kernel) 0.2 I never got below 456Mhz consequently heat and battery died in ~10% an hour increments even if I didn't touch it

You may use an app such as System Tuner to watch your CPU temperature. Mine get 50 celcius after 15minutes playing NFS MW... I dont know if it is still normal.
What version are you on? Mine used to be uncomfortably warm, but since 4.2.2, that has been fixed for me.

Hi,
It feels hot... its very subjective without a real measured CPU or battery temp. Like opticaldh said, install an app with monitoring CPU temp and see. What kernel ?
Also what is the battery temp?

I am on Franco kernel, fast CPU, UV 150 (Default for 384Hz is 850, now it is 700). That's what makes me worry.
My Nexus has been getting uncomfortably hot. I first noticed it last night after getting to a friends place and took the phone out. It was really hot and the battery had dropped about 20% for a 15 minute drive. I checked the battery and Google Maps was showing at the top with the most usage even though it wasn't enabled.
I then proceeded to check the settings in Maps and turned off all the location tracking stuff which was unfortunately enabled.
However, even today my phone was again quite warm after driving around. Battery didn't even show Google Maps so that wasn't the cause.
It may have something to do with signal issues always trying to get the strongest signal as it doesn't happen when I am at home and not moving around.
Maybe your friend is hot

is this your first smartphone? they all get "hot"
Only way to really reduce heat without an impact on performance would be to undervolt. Another way would be to underclock. Both you need a custom kernel to do.

@Detailed, @opticaldh, shutup and stop telling people to undervolt, youll just get them into more trouble.
Matrix kernel runs at 288 MHz when idling, you can under volt it at around 650ma there.
I am running Motley kernel, idling at 308 MHz, UV at 700 ma. The only time I notice my n4 getting hot is when I use GPS and charging simultaneously.

i don't have a problem with heating on my Nexus 4, running latest franco kernel + uv settings makes it a lot cooler than before, when i don't use uv settings it heats up too pretty fast but with those settings it even stays cool on benchmarks and stability tests, cause i don't play on my Nexus 4, could try that out too to see if it gets hot. well it gets slightly warm but never "hot" i would never call it that.

I'm getting the Nexus 4 in about a week, just wondering what the battery life is like
if the CPU is down clocked all the way to 1.0Ghz an you under volt it by a few MV?
Also what's performance like at 1Ghz?
Just relax and enjoy your phone when it arrived. You will see that there is no need to do anything about battery. Battery is just good out of box.

Try it yourself in a week, not every phone is setup equally in terms of installed apps and widgets and usage. Other factors like gaming, streaming music and video`s etc etc play a roll in battery life. No one can answer this question for you.

Hello,
I have a peculiar problem with my OnePlus Two
The faster A57 cores don't get activated, I have tried using Antutu, played Asphalt 8 And NFS NL for hours.
But the cores just won't get triggered
I'm using A1 CPU tool to monitor the same.
Even CPU Z wouldn't show me any activity on the other 4 cores while Antutu was running.
Any ideas? It's brand new can be returned

I just installed A1 CPU to verify your issue.
It shows cores 0,1,2,3,4 are used at 1344ghz for me as well.
When i check with synapse (i'm on AK kernel) it shows all cores are used.
I guess it's a limitation with A1 CPU tool. Try with other tool that supports such architecure.
I was sceptical on the same but, out of the box I remembered seeing 1777 MHz frequencies.
Thanks a lot
I shall try more tools and get back.
Though I think if you're on a different kernel and had the A1 CPU tool been correct it would be redundant, Because core allocation would be done on kernel level (in my knowledge).

I know that it was already discussed but maybe someone has found a solution.
The problem is that performance of device gradually decreases proportionally to the level of the battery.
For example:
- battery is 90%, Real Racing 3 runs perfectly,
- battery is 45%, some lags appear during gameplay
- battery is 10%, heavily FPS drop, almost impossible to play
Battery saver is turned off, device is cold in all tests.
If I would like to save my battery level - I will turn on battery saver manually,
but I WANT to have good game experience not depending on battery level
This is really crazy.
Tested on stock OOS 2.1.1, with stock kernel, with Boeffla an AK, tested on Exodus ROM - everywhere I can see this weird behaviour.
May be some system files must be edited to overcame this issue?

Hi Jemcik, hi Denhot!

With a battery level of 19% I was not able to get the 4 A57 cores online, which results in lower system performance. Have you found a solution?

Maybe we should rename the thread into: IS OPT PERFORMANCE REALLY DEPENDENT ON BATTERY STATUS AND IS IT A ROM FEATURE OR AN ISSUE!?

I've never experienced such a function!
CPU power depending on battery voltage!? 62k with full battery, 49k with 20% battery both with same CPU temps!
Hopefully not a general problem on our side with the motherboard Voltage Regulator or something.
Have you been to a kernel thread and asked this question? If not, I will ask this in AK's kernel thread. Maybe he knows more about it!
The 4 high performance cores will only be activated when needed. What app are you using to check the core usage? Every now and then you should see 2 of the high performance cores sometimes coming to life every now and then, with the other 4 power efficent cores being more busy. Use CPU-Z to check.
Due to the way Oxygen OS's stock kernel works, only 2 of the high performance cores will ever be active, alternating between the 4 cores in an attempt to keep the phone cool and not throttle as often. If you want all 4 high performance cores to be active as well as overclocking it back to its original speeds, you'll need to flash a custom kernel.

Hi,
would like to share I don't have a similar experience, with NFS NL or Asphalt, phone was consistent with no lags even when it got unbearable to hold.
I as playing and simultaneously screen mirroring over to a TV.
Going from 65 to 25% over a long course.
I normally won't let my battery fall below 20%.
So the thing about Li-ion/pro is that as you go lower voltage decreases so to provide same power draw current increases.
Basically it would heat up faster.
That can be a reason combined with that their might be inbuilt measures to save battery like you said, nor as an engineer I would recommend you to stress your phone at those levels.
I can't explain the lag at 45%, didn't find it might try real racing 3 later to check.

This is consistent with what I've noticed. The time It didn't, a simple reboot helped solve it and it hasn't occurred since.
Also these tools can't monitor the other cores, if you're rooted why not try synapse as helkat suggested

Thanks man!
I know how the S810 should work!
But I thought the performance issues have only to do with the temps. But now it seems it have also to do with the battery level.
It would be good if someone tries to reproduce the following to verify it:
1. One run Antutu benchmark with fully charged battery and room cool temps.
To be sure the conditions are the same, shut the display off for one or two minutes, than start display again, kill all recent apps and run Antutu test and note the results.
2. Than wait or do something until your battery is down to 20%, shut the display off for the same time, kill recent apps and start Antutu test run again and compare the results.
I've also tried the same after a reboot, with always the same results.
With 100% I get scores between 60 and 66k and with lower capacity (20%) I get only 48 till 50k!
I am not interested about the benchmark results, but I need to know if this only occurs on my side.

So, guys!
I have tested it the last few weeks and it is a fact that the performance in benchmarks is dependent by the battery level.
We have tested it with 3 devices and it is always the same.
But thank God, it seems on the devices perfomance themselves (in apps/ui) this has no effect!
But each one can replicate this behavior very easy!

I have the same issue! When battery level goes lower than 20%, my A57 kernels become offline. I checked this with CPU-Z and PerfMon. And this is the same on stock or custom kernel. Now I am using Boeffla kernel. The most frustrating is that my UI suffer from this. I have lot of lags in simple apps, such as calculator or some messengers.
Same issue here, there are threads in one plus forums.
I think the threashold level is at 40 % ?? They made this to keep the battery up. You can also see faster battery drop till the 40-30% mark then it is harder to kill the battery.
I am also dissapointed in this, maybe we can search the kernel sources ? Or is there a daemon app that triggers this?
I received the phone with 20%-30% battery, started an antutu knowing how powerfull 810 chip is, then boom 45k same as the previos phone i had with 801 chipset...i was like what the fxck....runing antutu again with full battery - 66k.
well i have run benchmark in back ground with few game and apps .. and checked with cpuz max that i have notice was around 50-60% cpu load still 2 off those a57 cores were off using this device for 2-3 days it always turns off 2 cores for me rest 6 is working most of the time :/ Even in battery saver mode .. i am not sure if this is a cpuz issue as i have not rooted my device yet so cant say properly ..
Also i face some freq. benchmark issue like in benchmark it scores around single core - 690 multicore - 2.6K .. and if i restarts device it scores normal - 1.1K and 4.5K .. i have no idea whats wrong with this :/
20% Battery Mark
The drop in performance at 20% Battery is standard behavior of the Rom and Stock Kernel. The Big Cluster (A57) is completly shut down to save Battery. If you dont want this you have to use a custom Kernel which is able to switch this Battery saving strategy off. Boeffla Kernel for example can do that.

They "optimized" the soc.....
No they just turned off some cores so there is no heat problem.
So I think this is my first and latest oneplus.
they've hit the mark! What the hell, i think they must be sued for false marketing. Its just like buying a car with 400 hp and those hp are only there when i'm parked or listen to music, if i'm on the highway or on the ridge the car has 100 hp...wtf :|

Calm down lol it's actually good on their part. Shutting down A57 cores on low battery is a good thing because the A53 cores use much lesser battery. If you're out on a trip and have 10% battery, with the A57 cores this will probably drain off within an hour of intermittent usage. When only the A53 cores are active, the battery life will increase greatly.
Companies design phones for average users, not just gamers. If you don't want this feature, root your phone, flash boeffla's kernel and disable the BCL Battery Driver. It's as simple as that
