Unlocking, rooting, relocking and unrooting Nexus 7 with Android 4.2.2 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I finally found toolkit what supports Nexus 7 Android 4.2.2. With this toolkit you can unlock bootloader, root your device, relock bootloader and unroot your device. Also if your device is soft bricked or normal then you can Flash stock rom and unroot. With this toolkit you can also make a backup to not lose you data when you are unlocking bootloader.

Update to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean?

Hey guys! I recently got my Nexus 7, which I just un-locked the bootloader, and rooted it using mskip's toolkit. Now it's asking to update to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.... Is it safe to up date without loosing my root and re-locking the bootloader or am I stuck with my current android jelly bean?

The permissions on the su binary may be affected but the bootloader won't be locked. You can always root the device again.
use otarootkeeper app and you will be fine

Excellent! Upgraded and it didn't lock my boot-loader. Neither did I lose my root:good:. The recovery mod mentioned the su binary but it fixed it no problem. Quick question tho, how do I check to see if I still have my root? I checked using my Sixaxis app to see if it still worked and it did. ^_^

The easiest way, IMO, is to try to use su in a terminal emulator.

Upgrade path from 4.2.2 to 4.3

Hello everyone,
I'm currently running the rooted factory stock version of 4.2.2 on my nexus 7 (wifi), now with he release of 4.3 I was wondering what paths are available for me to upgrade to 4.3 in a short and long term.
Thank you.
Unroot and OTA, or find one of the many posted TWRP/CWM flashable versions, rooted or unrooted, that have been posted here in the last couple of hours.

Personally, i downloaded the factory image and then, just flashed it using the console. Pretty easy.
Also, Nexus Tool Rootkit by WugFresh can do the job.
Both metods format all the partitions.
IIRC, there was a warning posted NOT to use the toolkit to push the 4.3 image.
Too many threads to remember which...
alright guys, I guess i would have to install 4.2.2 and wait for OTA.
Wugfresh said that he's in the process of updating his tool, so I'd hold off a day....

N-Cry VS WugFresh

Hi,
I want to unlock, root and install recovery on my 4.3 JWR66V nexus 4.
Which toolkit shall I use?
N-Cry or WugFresh?
Some guys have problems with WugFresh but it looks easier than N-Cry...
Thank's!

Neither. Do it manually and learn what you're doing so if you have any issues in the future you'll know exactly how to sort it out. Being a nexus device, doing things manually is a piece of cake. Consult the guide in my sig and you should be fine.

[Q] Few questions about Razr M

I am new to Razr m i have a few question.
1. Is my device bootloader unlocked
In Fastboot I can see
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
2. Are there any files of razr M that i have to backup first before attempting Unlock and root. I have S4 before buying razr M as my second devices in which i had to backup the efs partitions so that's why i need to know if some backup of razr M is needed.
3.Whats the latest official firmware of Razr M. Currently my device is on 4.1.2.
Thanks

How is 4.4.2 update compared to 4.1 because I have read some bad things about 4.4 update like poor battery life. Should I unlock the bootloader first and then update or unlock it after update.
Which custom rom u would recommend to use as daily driver for better performance.

You have to update to unlock the boot loader and yes my battery life took a significant hit. I installed app ops and then disabled allot of the security location and keep awake items and battery life was alright again. No idea if there is a good choice for a 4.4 rom on this device yet but cm11 is getting close.

Absolutely unlock the bootloader, absolutely upgrade to 4.4.2 , before the 4.4.4 update is live to all phones. If it is already available for you, manually flash 4.4.2 and use motopocolpyse to unlock the bootloader. You might never get the chance to unlock your boot loader again.

So there pushing 4.4.4 to the M... Where did you read this at... I was under the impression that the next ota was just going to be bug fixes and a security patch to block the root and unlock method
