Hey guys! I recently got my Nexus 7, which I just un-locked the bootloader, and rooted it using mskip's toolkit. Now it's asking to update to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.... Is it safe to up date without loosing my root and re-locking the bootloader or am I stuck with my current android jelly bean?

The permissions on the su binary may be affected but the bootloader won't be locked. You can always root the device again.
use otarootkeeper app and you will be fine

Excellent! Upgraded and it didn't lock my boot-loader. Neither did I lose my root:good:. The recovery mod mentioned the su binary but it fixed it no problem. Quick question tho, how do I check to see if I still have my root? I checked using my Sixaxis app to see if it still worked and it did. ^_^

The easiest way, IMO, is to try to use su in a terminal emulator.

My question is simple. Can we recieve OTA update after unlocked bootloader and rooted Nexus 7 device ??
As long as you don't install a custom recovery, then yes. You'll lose root though unless you use OTA RootKeeper.

Hi, just a questions, how would you know that you have stock recovery or custom recovery? My first time to own a Nexus devise and would not know where to look.

lol how do you not know if you put a custom recovery on your device? if you rooted it, you would have the option to put custom recovery, especially now on all these one-click-toolkits
IS the one-click toolkit adding a custom recovery to your device?
If so then mine has and no 4.1.2 for me, GREAT
You can do the OTA Update if you use an app called OTA Root Keeper (or something like that) to keep root when you update.

I have rooted my Nexus device in JB 4.1.2, but when I updated to 4.2, I lost root. I have the bootloader unlocked. Is there any way to root it without flashing a custom recovery like CWM? I want to receive OTA updates, but I want root for StickMount and GMD Gesture Control...

Since ur already unlocked why don't u just use the Nexus root toolkit to just root ur device without installing a custom recovery?
I think u should be fine that way

I can't. On NRT 1.5.5 I only see 4.1.2 as max version. Also I see (Any build) But when I do the TWRP thing (Any Build), when I "Swipe to Confirm Flash" It says "Failed"...

I have an unlocked bootloader and im stock rooted. Can i take the OTA 4.2 Update? Thanks
Sure;
If you're currently on stock 4.1.2, with no modified system files, you can accept the OTA upgrade offer. Otherwise, you can push the OEM ROM manually.

Nope. That's how I updated. You might want to try ota rootkeeper from the play store if you want to keep your device rooted

Hi,
i've got a new Razr M, which has from factory this version of system:
98.30.1.xt907.verizon.en.us
build: 9.8.1q-94
I think about if it's possible to make towel root on this version of system, unlock bootloader with motocalypse and then flash TWRP and then CyanogenMod 11, last M8 build which is for JB.
Or it is not possible in this version of system and only way it's take OTA and then root, unlock bootloader and then Cyanogen for KK?
Thanks very much for answers.
If you want to unlock your bootloader, you'll need to update to KitKat first. Then you can apply towelroot and Motopocalypse.
Ok, thanks, as i read somewhere, there this towel root is possible on all version of Android before 4.6. But i wasnt sure about unlock bootloader.
Thanks for reply.
Flash the official Kit Kat ROM first, then hit it with Towel Root and finally use Motopocalypse app. After that, the Fastboot utility in the bootloader will indicate Status 3 or if you just boot straight back to the OS, you will be greeted by the teal warning splash screen telling you that you have effectively destroyed the warranty by unlocking the bootloader.

This is so awesome !!!
I have 2 Razr M now unlocked =)
Not the most powerful phone but The best in size and usability =)
KK Update
Has the update been patched or is it still OK to OTA? Still running 4.1.2 (9.8.1Q-78-1)?
The reason I have never heard about any updates is I have had Motorola services disabled!
Kk update can be rooted and unlocked

Yes. Android 4.4 Kit Kat update can be unlocked. I unlocked mine.

Also, it is worth a note, Towel Root WILL work with previous firmware versions, however, Motopocalypse doesn't work on all versions.
This. Kit Kat update is the only version the Motopocalypse works on.

Hey everyone, I have a rooted locked bl JB 4.1.2 build 9.8.1a-78... I'd like to unlock pop and drop it. How do I go about upgrading to KK to towelroot when rooted? And is the exploitable version KK.10? Thanks!

Pouring my first beer!
Can't thank enough for the help, successfully upgraded, rooted, and unlocked. Got hung up on rsd lite, had to edit xml for firmware. Other than that, smooth sailing and the beer at the party is still ice cold.
Cheers!
I am new to Razr m i have a few question.
1. Is my device bootloader unlocked
In Fastboot I can see
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
2. Are there any files of razr M that i have to backup first before attempting Unlock and root. I have S4 before buying razr M as my second devices in which i had to backup the efs partitions so that's why i need to know if some backup of razr M is needed.
3.Whats the latest official firmware of Razr M. Currently my device is on 4.1.2.
Thanks

How is 4.4.2 update compared to 4.1 because I have read some bad things about 4.4 update like poor battery life. Should I unlock the bootloader first and then update or unlock it after update.
Which custom rom u would recommend to use as daily driver for better performance.
Sent from my GT-I9505
You have to update to unlock the boot loader and yes my battery life took a significant hit. I installed app ops and then disabled allot of the security location and keep awake items and battery life was alright again. No idea if there is a good choice for a 4.4 rom on this device yet but cm11 is getting close.

Absolutely unlock the bootloader, absolutely upgrade to 4.4.2 , before the 4.4.4 update is live to all phones. If it is already available for you, manually flash 4.4.2 and use motopocolpyse to unlock the bootloader. You might never get the chance to unlock your boot loader again.

So there pushing 4.4.4 to the M... Where did you read this at... I was under the impression that the next ota was just going to be bug fixes and a security patch to block the root and unlock method
