I have an unlocked bootloader and im stock rooted. Can i take the OTA 4.2 Update? Thanks
Sure;
If you're currently on stock 4.1.2, with no modified system files, you can accept the OTA upgrade offer. Otherwise, you can push the OEM ROM manually.

Nope. That's how I updated. You might want to try ota rootkeeper from the play store if you want to keep your device rooted

So if (when) I root my Nexus S, if I don't do anything except root it (no custom roms etc) will I receive all updates just like normal from Google no strings attached? In essence, it'll be the exact same process just superuser status, correct?

In essence you are only adding two files, the .apk and the su file. I would think that you would still get updates, but just an educated guess.
The only way you'll lose updates is by flashing a custom ROM AFAIK. An update might break your root (not sure), but you should still get it.
Nah ... then if we flash our GNS with custom rom we can't update firmware directly from google ? It is reversable reversible ... it is ?

You don't get OTA updates with a custom ROM, but you will if you flash back to a stock one.
I am not sure you can install ota updates with custom recovery either right?

As long as you have a stock ROM, I think you can.

Don't the ota updates install through the phones recovery? If it's not the stock recovery, how would it work? Maybe I am wrong though

Just did a Google and apparently you can download the OTA update but not install without a stock recovery. I assume you can then install it "manually" with your custom recovery.

I think you can only install the ota from stock recovery also because of the way it is signed. Although I am sure someone will come up with a flashable zip as soon as, if not before, there is an update. So I would not worry

hi guys. need some assistance. i currently have an arc s rooted, BL locked, no roms, currently .42. i had my PC companion updated and it suddenly showed me an update for .69. my question is, if i proceed with the update, will i lose root on my phone? if yes, can i still root my phone once its already on .69? won't i have any issue once the official ICS is out and i update it while im on .69 or .62 will be better? sorry for too many questions. just don't want to brick my phone by doing unnecessary updates. please advise. thanks!
You lose your root if you use pc companion to update.
If you update with OTA method root stays.

No root available for.62 or.69(this for Germany legal issues overgmail) unless you have UNlocked bootloader,if you have unlocked bootloader do not update over the air it will brick your phone.
If bootloader is locked then use flash tools to down grade to.42 then root then update over the air to.62/.69 which ever your device gives you this way you wont lose root.
Hope this helps

If bootloader is locked then you can update ota and you wont lose root,
From what I understand there is no big difference between .42 and .62/.69

you could flash 42 root this, update over the air to 62, than flash only the baseband to 69 root will still!

If you want .62 then you can do OTA update like i said.
You will keep your root that way.
Ordered my Nexus 4 a few days ago and it should be arriving tomorrow. My only question is, if I unlock the bootloader, root it, and install a recovery, etc. but I do not flash a custom ROM, leaving the phone just on stock 4.2.2,
Will I will still be able to check for OTA updates/install them?

Yes, if you have root but still on the stock rom, kernel and recovery you can download and install the OTA but you will have to reroot again afterwards.

Yes, but for if the OP only has root and for the rest everything stock.
Better to not take otas anyways. Everytime you take a ota you risk having your phone locked by some patch they slide in via ota. Meaning you cant use the previous methods to reroot or unlock. Since your going through all the trouble of rooting. Just wait the 30mins it takes someone to make a recovery flash out of it. Its why you have a custom recovery on there in the first place. Plus its much less work lol

This is a NEXUS we don't need a exploit to gain root just unlock and push or flash SU. All nexus use the same method to root. No ota will change that

For whatever reason can't get the update to flash. I'm stock jwr66y except I have twrp and root. Is there a straight stock rooted rom for grouper yet or an I Sol?

Anyone?

You can't flash the OTA if you're rooted I believe. Try to unroot. If that doesn't work, maybe flashing the system.img from the extracted JWR66Y factory image might work.
If you want 4.4 asap, go back to stock 4.3.
Custom 4.4 roms will be available after Google releases the stock images.

You can flash it if you are rooted, you will only loose root. But it is so easy to root afterwards, just flash SU from recovery....
I couldn't get it to flash over the top of a rooted stock 4.3 rom.
In the end I used wug's toolkit to flash an unrooted stock 4.3 image (the toolkit does all the work for you, even downloading the stock image), then flashed the 4.4 zip over the top, again using wug's toolkit.
to be honest its a bit disappointing as there's no option to enable ART in developer options and no translucent notification bar/nav bar.
looks and feels exactly the same as it did with 4.3 (it's showing as 4.4. under 'about tablet').

I couldn't flash it with twrp, either. Switch to the latest cwm and try again. Worked for me.
My install failed at the end, while setting permissions, if I remember well. You could try to flash boot.img and system.img from the jwr66y factory image, just to be sure.
where is the ota. everyones talking about it,but, it aint even released on googles site???FRAUDS.

What I meant was if one is not using stock recovery and rom, will not get the official OTA update.

That's not a full factory image, just the OTA image. I'm not in a hurry for any of this anyway. I'd rather just wait for a full stock rooted 4.4 ROM, whenever that's cobbled together. If it's not broken, don't attempt to fix.

Its here.... On the factory image website a bunch got it. I can't wait to get home to update my nexus 7 and my phone(nexus 4).
My phone downloads the update but the install fails, im also trying to obtain root. I have gotten rid of some bloatware, could that be the problem if so what needs to be on the phone for the update to take?

If you don't unlock your bootloader on 182/183.46.10, future system updates will close any loopholes to gaining root and unlocking your bootloader. - You have been warned!
Once your bootloader is unlocked, it can not be re-locked - Say goodbye to any warranties you may have.
Once your bootloader is unlocked, you can accept any and all firmware updates.
In order to receive and install System Updates you will need to be using 100% stock untouched firmware. (Stock system & recovery)
You can not downgrade with a locked bootloader. You can only flash current or updated firmware.

Bummer. anyway to get stock apps back on phone? or is 4.2.2 not even worth it for the phone.

Well... you have 3 options.
1. You can flash your current firmware and then OTA to the KitKat firmware.
2. Flash the KitKat firmware with RSD Lite.
3. Stay where you are and skip the update.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
If it's not I suggest that you flash the .10 firmware and unlock your bootloader. (It has to be the .10 firmware only to root and unlock the bootloader)
