Asphalt 7 slow with recent update? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else noticed asphalt just got really choppy after the most recent update? (App update). It played great for me prior to it. No ROM or kernel changes here. Very disappointed. Any suggestions?

Asphalt 7 is slow for me as well. Runs great on my Nexus 4. I noticed the same thing with NFS: Most Wanted, slow on Nexus 10, fast on Nexus 4. I assumed it was due to the larger amount of pixels being pushed with the 10 versus the 4, but your comment suggests this is not the case, which of course makes me happy.
But still frustrating that we have slow performance with some games.

Nexus 4: the most lagfree android device?

Hi all, the nexus 4 is the devices that I want to buy, but I wanted to ask you something: is it the most lagfree device avaible in the market? How is it after installing many apps? I've read in many reviews that's the smoothest android device, but I would like some confirmations
PS: I have a galaxy ace and I know that the nexus 4 will definitely be a super-upgrade
I've got about 100 or so installed apps and it works just fine.
Edit: just checked. I have 129 apps.
From a Nexus 4 bathing in Jelly Beans
Its definitely one of the fastest out there if not the fastest. The pure Google experience that you get with the phone is awesome. If you like to flash your phone there's a huge variety of roms that can be personalized to the tiniest details, and with the right combination of a rom and a decent kernel you will forget what lag is.

Oh, I know what flashing is and I think I will mess around with that!

With a nexus 4 you won't "need" to flash anything, you can do it if you want some extra customizations, but even the stock rom is lag free. Install apex or nova launcher and boost animation/window speed, and you'll get an even snappier experience.

I played with HTC One which is claimed to be the fastest, smoothest, and powerful Android phone. Yes it is! But sometimes you will have the stutter feeling when opening apps, just sometimes though, and it is somewhat unpredictable. its fast but not quite like a Nexus. you have to experience it to know what i mean. plus most apps are developed based on a Nexus, so yeah you'll have the best experience.
I have about 113 apps and still no lag. stock everything until last week i flashed franco kernel. planning to jump onto cyanogenmod tomorrow.
With all the things you say, you make me desire more and more the nexus!
I'm on stock, unlocked and rooted with 700hrs of up-time so far, no crashes other than a couple of 3rd party apps and no lag whatsoever =)

Had my N4 since Xmas and whilst the UI is smooth scrolling in certain apps is a pain, like XDA or tapatalk or facebook.
I have tried loads of roms, currently using Sabermod which has the least lag but there is still judder issues with some apps, ALL android devices that I have used (N1, S2, S3, N4) have suffered this problem. Until all major apps act as lag free as my launcher I cannot say the N4 is lag free

The problem there is the app itself

hey man, I came from cooper too and now I have an N4. It's a really good phone, specially when you flash franco's kernel and CM10.1 nightlys (yeah, you don't have anymore to wait updates from Maclaw, OldDroid or biel ). Battery life is good, and with franco kernel it's even better.
All the UI and system apps are really smooth, but when using some apps it's a pain to scrool (apps's fault). Videos and music also play without interruptions. Buy it, you will not regret.
Well I also have a note 10.1 and I'm not sure I'm noticing the lag you're talking about in the facebook app...
I've had every galaxy s series phone available from the vibrant to the sII then the s3 tried the s4....and absolutely nothing comes close to the Nexus experience period.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Compared next to the s4 this phone actually opens and closes apps faster by a split second or so, but the dual core s3 is faster than the s4 in my opinion so....

I don't think what you are describing is lag caused by the Nexus 4...
It's lag caused by your data speed.
With your facebook example, scolling sometimes stuters as it downloads the actual data & information from facebook itself.
The facebook app tries to place new information at the top & then it tens to want to automatically jump to the top.
If you were connected to LTE or even a fast WiFi connection that problem would be less noticable.
But as said earlier... it's just bad coding from facebook.
Come on man, the Nexus is amazing...
It has the same amount of RAM as my work computer, & lags less.
Personally I find the Nexus 4 to be a very fast device, I wont say lag free as I can certainly see some lag but is it the fastest device out? You bet, ive played around with a very new note 2 and an s4, the N4 seems to be much faster than the Note2 and marginally faster than the s4 just pressing the home button on those two devices show about .5 seconds slower than my n4 in action.
Battery life? Hmm struggle with mine if I am honest but I get a day now, it seems I get way less than everyone else and I am not sure why but I feel i got unlucky with my device and I pray to god I have a faulty power button or something so I can RMA within the warranty to hope for a new device haha.
Its the best value phone and has pretty much the same specs as the top phones, whats not to like? And its a Nexus .
Maybe I should add that the device is also faster than the iphones/ipads I have used which shocked me as people always praised their performance... lol, the N4 is simply held back by some poorly coded applications but what can you do? Hope Developers get better

Strange; I install the factory ROM onto my N4 and N10, and was quickly reminded as to what lag truly was... it was not pleasing :/

graphics issues

Hey I just got my g2. Incredible phone, there is a learning curve however. I'm not quite used to the dimensions and button the back, but I have only been using it for a couple days so I'll give it t some time. The screen and camera are the best I've ever seen(not counting the nokia1020).
The biggest issue for me right now is performance. Switching in and out of apps and navigating apps is pretty choppy. Had this been 3 years ago the speed would be great but I'm comparing it to my galaxy s4 and iPhone 5 side by side and the scrolling on some web pages and apps is frustratingly slow. I was wondering if anyone is seeing the same kind of performance?
No, my phone is flying. No lags whatsoever. I would try a master reset and see if that helps.

Same here, fastest Android phone I ever dealt with. Experience is better then N4, just with a load of junk... Cyanogenmod for us will make it better!

Since your coming from anexus 4, which was my favorite android phone besides the camera. How are you doing with the size difference? I have larger than average size hands and I have to bounce the phone around in my hand to reach things I need to press at the top of the screen. Never had that problem with the nexus or my gs4.
I'm coming from a N4 too (I'll get the phone the G2 this week) I'll miss vanilla, but the battery life, camera, and larger screen will MORE than make up for that with the G2.
do me a favor and try youtube, asphalt 8, riptide gp, etc etc. (heavy 3d games) everything is choppy for me but the choppiness is rhythmic for some odd reason
First off, what launcher are you using? I think alot of people that get lagged that are caused by a poorly written app, and assume its the phones fault. Only good way to tell will be factory reset, and run it that way a bit. All good then add ur apps back one at a time, testing it between apps, and that will pinpoint which app is the issue...
I've been getting some random gitter/lag with the ui as well, just tested in antutu got 30,000 then a second time got 26,000. Isn't the g2 supposed to get like 35k?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
Just so I could make a statement based on fact I downloaded Riptide GP 2 to see if I got any lag or stuttering, I played 2 races with no lag or slowdown. Then I went into the graphic settings but everything was already maxed out by default, I ended up playing for 20 more minutes and its a very fun game lol. So yep it just went thru the game like butter the way you would expect it to..

Graphical artifacts possibly GPU damage

Hi everyone, this is my first thread on XDA. Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way ... straight to the point. I just bought a Nexus 7 2nd edition/2013. Being the power user that I am (still haven't rooted it xD ) started trying out some emulators as a test, namely ppsspp and dolphin for android. Both of those are in development and highly unstable.
It's worth to mention that my first day of use was flawless. Here it comes ... BUT ... after messing around with dolphin I managed to well simply crash the OS. The tablet completely shut down, probably to prevent damage (e.g. bluescreen style). When I switched it back on everything seemed fine, until I played a video and I noticed that blacks/browns were pixelated (like artifacts). I installed the video game Magic 2014 and I'm unsure if I noticed it before or if it happened just now but during the intro I get the same issue with blacks - highly pixelated, and one of the images has 3 or 4 lines. In game performance is smooth and absolutely no issues.
The ppsspp and dolphin emulators both have options which push the CPU/GPU and memorry quite a lot. The tablet however hasn't been heating up at all.
What do you think ? Have I damaged my 3 day old nexus baby's GPU ? Or is it a software - driver issue ? Maybe something else
Help me oh great xda crowd

Google Photos App Video Playback

Since the last update to the Google photos app on both mine and my wife's Nexus 10 both running lollipop 5.1.1, videos stutter as if its missing frames or don't show any image at all just sound. It all works fine on my Nexus 5 so must be specific to the Nexus 10. Has anyone else noticed this and found a solution?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Have the same problem.
Went to App-Info and uninstalled updates.
Is this the only solution for now?
Yes. I have just received another update to the photos app but its still the same. Let's hope Google fix it soon.

Bad thing is I have this issue on nexus 6. It definitely needs a fix!
I have the same issue. But what's interesting here is that unlike the first post's writer told I have it on nexus 5 running android 5.1.1. Currently using MX player and videos work just fine.
Hmmm. Also Nexus 6 here.
I have the same problem on my Nexus 6. I though it started when I uninstalled a previous update to Camera/Photos last month sometime. Every video I playback through Photos stutters, but at least through Camera I can change the default video player. Wish I could do the same for Photos. Also, just notice a generally lag on my Nexus 6 recently...
I hate wiping and starting fresh, but I just may have to.
The bug is still here. Version 1.30 on Nexus 6. Damned mumbai programmers...
The stuttering is still here on v. 1.4.0.102264174 on Nexus 6 running android 5.1.1_r12. However, the issue can be fixed by going to developer settings and switching from NuPlayer to AwesomePlayer in Media settings.

Lag Nexus 6p

Have you experienced lag in Nexus 6p?
Mine mostly lags in developer setting for example when I toggle sRGB it lags a little and when I open the developer setting after restart. Also when I was restoring my apps in play store I tried to cancel one of the apps and it said google play is not responsive.
There will be certain services that are going to lag for everyone, most of the time its when processes happen that are allowed to utilize all processing power. Such as installing apps.
For me it doesn't lag for anything beside developer options. It might be a software issue that gets fixed with an update. Other than that, it's been the fastest Android device I've owned so far.

This is the fastest android I've owned too, but I came from Samsung galaxy s3 i9300 which is 3 years old and it is touchWiz. Most of the times the only thing that lags is developer options and rarely it lags in the play store. Hopefully they will fix the issues in a software update.
I haven't had any lag whatsoever on my 6P, although my Nexus 9 suffers from terrible lag, which is very annoying since the lag on my original Nexus 7 was the whole reason I bought the 9.
I've had some other issues with the 6P, such as Bluetooth randomly disconnecting and not reconnecting until after a reboot, and the camera app has completely frozen up once or twice.
But otherwise it's undoubtedly the best Nexus device I've ever owned.

Yes but I wouldn't call it lag. It only happened first time when setting up the device and seemed like app became unresponsive.
Not lag as such but as a device as a whole it's slower than my S6.

There is no lag whatsoever in the device. I have had two apps force close, which I guess is the marshmallow incompatibility issue. This phone is blazing fast

Mine has run smooth on most things. Occasionally coming out of finger print scan it is sluggish. However, overall it performs well.

I am having this issue too. Opening apps, using the fingerprint scanner, hitting the recents button, sometimes they lag or are sluggish almost to the point where I have to hit them again because I think that the tap didn't register. Then it opens twice or opens/closes because of the sluggishness. It's really strange and beginning to think it's an app or a kernel issue.
