[Q] Nexus 4 stops syncing - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a Nexus 4 (4.2.2), the problem is thta whatsapp/gmail/facebook (all apps) only show notifications when the screen is turned off (so I'm not notified if a message arrives with a led, sound nor vibration) until I actually check my phone.
I have deactivated the wifi baterry saving option, set the wifi to always on (instead of off during sleep), and nothing :S
I had a motorola razr and this problem never happened to me.

Are you using an app like LightFlow or just stock notifications?

Stock, I have read a little in this forum and it turns out I just suffer from the delayed notifications bug... x_X
My nexus just turned unusable....

Give this a shot it worked for me.

In your Advanced Wi-Fi Settings, is "Keep W-Fi on during sleep" set to Always? (You get there from the Wi-Fi screen, click the Menu Button and select Advanced Wi-Fi).
Not sure if this will help because of your other symptoms but it's somewhere to start.
Edit: DD's solution sounds more to the point, but requires root.

I have the same problem.
I receive notifications from 2 minutes up to 30 minutes later.
When Im charging my phone, notifications are not delayed at all, not even for one second
I use nexus 4 kitkat, not rooted, stock
I have turned off Wifi Optimization and now notifications arrive usually with 30 seconds delay which is OK for me, but the battery now drains faster

Push is blazing fast on my G2. I do have wi-fi optimizer enabled as well as wi-fi enabled in sleep mode.
Is turn wifi off during sleep enabled? I thought it kicked over to 4G if so.
I am on stock G2, unrooted. I experience this using 4G. On WiFi, I haven't noticed it yet.

Screen stays on

So for the last couple of days my HTC One M7 would recieve a notification and the screen would just stay on the entire time for no apparent reason. Im on latest OmniROM and its starting to bug me. Like for instance I get new mail on Gmail in the middle of the night. The screen turns on, it show the notification, and it doesnt turn off until I turn it off. If I restart, its fine for a few hours, but as soon as I get a notification, the problem reappears.

Dude, you took less than 24 hours before bumping. Not everyone checks the forums regularly.
Also, per the FAQ, bug reports belong on jira.omnirom.org
However the behavior you describe is a feature in Omni. Let me guess - you turned on Active Display and forgot about it? (Since it's off by default, and the behavior you describe is not something I've ever seen on any device when AD was disabled.)

Nope.
Just to note, I am seeing the same thing on my nexus 5 running the 10/13 nightly. AD is disabled and I have never enabled it. I was wondering why sometimes I would pull my phone out of my pocket and the display would be on. Since reading this I have verified that this happens when I get a notification. I will submit a bug report on jira.omnirom.org.
eta: oops, I just realized you need an account for jira.omnirom.org.

This doesn't occur on any of my devices, including a Nexus 5.
Are you running some sort of notification customization app of some sort?
Define "screen on" - Lockscreen? Blank with backlight on?

I am not running any notification customization apps just straight Omni nightlies. It happens with any notification that I receive. It goes to the lock screen and stays on until I unlock it. I am going to wipe and reinstall the ROM and try and determine if it's an app issue.

Do you have "screen stays on while charging" enabled? Even then, it shouldn't be turning on for a notification in the first place.
None of my devices turn on for a notification in any situation, and the screen always shuts off quickly (faster than the screen timeout setting) when it's at the lock screen unless "screen stays on when charging" is set in Developer Options.

Problem with push notifications when phone is sleeping / idle

Hello!
I'm running a stock Verizon HTC 10 with the latest OTA updates. This phone seems to have a problem with push notifications after it has been "sleeping" or idle for awhile. I don't know exactly what that time period is, but it seems to be about 30 minutes. Once the screen goes black and the phone has been idle in this state for this time period, the phone stops getting (or checking for-however that works) push notifications. There is no blinking LED or sound notification that mail has come for gmail or Outlook. The phone will still answer calls and notify upon receipt of text messages. Usually within a few seconds of turning the screen on from the idle state, the gmail and Outlook notifications come. When the phone screen is on, or within a few minutes of turning the screen off, the push notifications will still come, but then stop.
I googled about this, and there seems to be quite a bit of discussion about it. I have tried the suggested remedies, but they don't work (unsync/sync gmail, clear data/cache for the apps, turn battery optimization off, delete/re-add accounts, along with some others). For work, I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it doesn't have this problem. Furthermore, my wife also has an HTC 10, and her phone doesn't seem to have the problem either (although I have not tested it thoroughly).
I've been through various settings, checked the do not disturb settings, but I can't seem to figure this out. I am probably missing some setting. It seems that the phone is going into some deep sleep mode after a period of time and disabling these apps, but keeping others, like the phone and SMS functions, alive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Are you using power saver mode? What about the boost+ app?
Also a lot of people started having similar issues after the first update to Nougat for U.S Unlocked. Later updates fixed the issue, but it sometimes still happening with Gmail for me.

I am not using power saver mode, and the Verizon version doesn't have the boost+ app installed.

Nore More Notification when screen is off

Hello Guys,
Since Sunday night i got no more notifications when the screen is off. I did not install anything new and did not mess up my settings.
(wifi still set to never sleep when screen is off). For 7 months I had no problem and suddenly nothing since Sunday.
When the screen is on, the notifications arrive (some right away some after 1-2 min) This is driving me crazy.
I am stock unroot and have not changed anything ...
Anyone had that problem? or above all a way to fix that? I have tried everything (installing wifi reconnecter etc) nothing works
Thank you in advance.
Seems that the problem is with wifi only. I am on 4g now and seems to be working
???????? (((

No incoming texts over night until morning; they never show up

Hi folks,
I've got the 6013 model in the US, running on AT&T, completely stock never rooted, fully updated to 10.3.11. Either the most recent update, or the one before that, seems to have caused an issue where texts sent to me overnight or in early morning before I first use the phone never show up. I've missed some important notifications due to this. The worst thing is they NEVER show up... they aren't just delayed until I wake the phone up. After I start using the phone, new texts make it through just fine. The phone seems to be sleeping deeper or something and not getting any of these cellular-based texts. Emails and other notifications based on wifi internet seem to be showing up fine.
Do not disturb is NOT enabled (and, I've tried toggling it on and off without change). This has been going on for weeks or longer, multiple reboots, etc.. I've checked my default texting app (Textra) and the phone's built-in Messages app... the texts aren't in either app. They just never show up.
What else can I look into to check the cause of this and hopefully a fix?
Thanks!
As a test today, I sent a text from my work phone to my personal OnePlus when I got up (late! Father's Day!) before interacting with my OnePlus at all. It did receive the text just fine. I think the cellular radio may be on some timer and going to sleep / waking up on some sort of schedule. Where are the settings for controlling this kind of thing? I haven't messed with this phone's settings much... it just worked fine out of the box and ever since for the last two and a half years until recent update messed this text thing up.
Further information: In Settings, Battery, Battery Saver is OFF (I've never enabled this) and under battery optimization I noticed Textra was set for Intelligent Control; I've toggled this to Don't Optimize. "Messages" was not present; I never use it.
Is there anything else to try? Note that the phone is plugged in and fully charged at the time these issues are occurring.

Dude, not sure but hope it will work,
anyway trying will cost nothing...
Go to settings > battery > battery optimization >
hit on upper right 3 dots and select advanced optimization,
then be sure " SLEEP STANDBY OPTIMIZATION"
is toggled OFF.
Try again and cross your finger...
Cheers

Thanks @Dadditz , that was already off. Sigh. Not sure why this happens. I've tested when I get up at 7 am, sending a text from another phone, and my 6T receives it, but during the darker hours of the night, no joy. Thanks for the reply, though.
Just as a follow up, the problem seems intermittent. I got some 4 am texts from my sump alarm when the wifi went down briefly. No idea what's going on, but it's intermittent rather than constant.
