Every kernel works on every nook.
I use v166 (applied via CWM) on my NST and NSTGL.
To use Fast Mode on FW 1.2.x you have to use my script for "Gscript" (for now) read the ' [Kernel] OC to 1100Mhz and linaro gcc 4.7 (New version with fast display mode)' thread for details.
Another way is to downgrade to FW 1.1.5 and don't bother playing with scripts.
It possible to run multitouch mode with keep glowlight functionality? I rooted my NSTGL on GlowNooter (FW 1.1.5). After I installed multitouch.zip. Multitouch works very fine but glowlight function disappeared. Thank you for your help. Regards.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a method to get a Linux Distribution like Ubuntu or Debian runnig on my Advent Vega or HTC Desire. Both devices do not support the chroot-command which is required in the tutorials out there because the system is something like virtualized.
There might could be a tutorial that shows me how to fastboot into that Linux on an ext-Partition or somewhere. I hadn't found it yet but you may know it better than me.
Thanks in advantage,
AndroidChromeOS
believe theres a tutorial over at modaco on how to get ubuntu on the vega
No it isn't. Just how to completeley install it instead of android. Not like it was possible on the G1 :/
i doubt that's possible we can't even run two roms with backing up and restoring. Your best shot is probably a vm style app
No that works. You are emulating the distribution. that's what you can do with chroot. It worked on the Google G1 aka HTC Dream. I had that and I tried that. But with the Vega it does not because of chroot
not that i know of any
Help yourself

Thanks but.. Where is the recovery mode on the vega?
My Desire has one but the Vega does not...

http://myadventvega.co.uk has the official recovery instructions.
Look here
For anyone still following this thread, I should point out that it's quite possible to run a chrooted vm on the vega. I simply followed the instructions in the thread on MoDaCo on this topic.
Go to: android.modaco.com/content/advent-vega-vega-modaco-com/336426/ubuntu-on-vega-other-method-05-04-2011/

I spent a lot of time trying it out, with no success. Then I noticed that one of the error messages in the terminal said something like "busybox - unknown option". So I updated my Busybox to the latest version and then the startup script ran with no problems.

Hello. I have had a Kindle fire since Jan of this year. It has been my first tablet/android device. I've had a great time playing with it, learning about rooting, bricking and unbricking thanx to this awesome forum and really want to express my gratitude for all the help provided by this site.
I am a medical student and I bought the device specifically for an app for my licensing exam. I feel like I have one last hurdle to overcome in understanding how to manipulate this device, that being a method of altering the way that the market apps recognizes the kindle. I have seen various mods that cause the device to show up differently.
My question is: what is the best mod to facilitate this and only this?
-I have everything as I like it so I prefer one that changes only this aspect.
Thanks a thousand times in advance.
Edit the build.prop file if you know how to, just change the model name to another device like the Galaxy Tab or something and you'll have a bunch more apps in the market.
Just use the modified build.prop from THIS thread and you will be all set.
thanks guys. I've read about build.prop. Gonna check out this link
I read through that link. It only supports CM7. I have had both CM7 and CM9 and prefer stock + go launcher. Do you know of any preset build.prop's that support stock?
edit: Obviously didnt read far enough, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916
I will test it out then update. Thanks again!
edit2: Modaco Gr6 is the mod to flash for those seeking to run stock vs. CM7/CM9. I got access to the file I needed and many other apps. I dont think i am seeing the entire android market though.
I had my Original Nook Color Since the 1.0.1 days. I rooted it and had it running everything for over a year. I went through the early froyo days and PhireMod days ect.... Recently I been running CM7 via sdcard. Well I tried some stupid things with my boot loader and messed up both loaders on the uSD and emmmc. Anyways ... after reading close to 100 messages and following many many old broken links, I have finally (via adb) got my nook back to stock 1.0.1 and running.
I am tech savy and know a bit about linux. And a lot about how the nook works. But my mind is fried after all this. SO I am asking for some help. Like I said, I currently have a working nook running stock 1.0.1 (with old broken wifi even) So my router is wide open so I can have wifi that works on nook. Anyway Please advise me were to go from here.
I would like to get CM7 running again via my sd-card. I would also like to update to Stock Nook 1.4.1 (on emmc) (so I can use their new comic reader) but that is not my main focus. If I can do that and dual boot then fine. But my real goal is just to get back to CM7 nightlies.
Do I need to nooter again ? Can some kind sole please point me in the correct direction or just walk me through what I need to do... I am tech savy so you could spell it out quickly if needed. I do have adb working and I have 2 empty sdcards.
ANYTHING would help my brain from overloading LOL.
Thank you so much.
PS... I have helped many many many people over the last 2 years both here in the Nook world and in the ANdroid forums.
Peace
Come on guys.... 75 views and not 1 bit of help. : (
I'll just keep waiting...
Thanks again

You have double posted and were answered on the other thread. You don't expect people to answer the same question twice do you? Or do you think they are different questions?
Eyeballer told you how to get to stock 1.2 in his guide. If you have wifi working, I would think it would update by itself from there.
The guide for making CM7 bootable SD is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12240928
And you don't have to root emmc to do it.

Hi,
I just got a nook today in the UK sale. I had rooted it and installed multiple apps but I have been unsuccessful in enabling fast mode.I have installed the APKs but can't enable them with the onscreen gesture. Do they require a certain kernel?
Thanks,
Ben

Yes.
Read the [OC Kernel] thread.
To get NoRefresh you have to use v166.
FastMode should work on any kernel.

Are you sure as I can't seem to get FastMode to work on the 1.2.1 firmware? I have read the OC Kernel thread and its unclear whether it works.
thanks
I am on 1.2.1 no refresh works but fastmode doesnt despite max CPU showing 1Ghz.
Looks like you arent the only one with this problem.

Did you get the newest yoga tablet 2 10" or the first gen 10"? Also what root method did you use if it was on the second gen 10" running the intel z atom processor.
Best solution I could offer is install the xposed Installer and once rebooted search the downloadable apps for 'immersive' and try the 'Force Immersive Mode on certain apps' app.
Many thanks
Adrian

No idea, but there does seem to be a lot of people complaining that they can't root successfully once upgraded to Kitkat (although, to be fair, others seem to do it). Do you have a backup of the old system (Jellybean) to restore to? If not I think you're basically stuffed I'm sorry to say.
Many thanks
Adrian
