FastMode / NoRefresh on 1.21 - Nook Touch General

Hi,
I just got a nook today in the UK sale. I had rooted it and installed multiple apps but I have been unsuccessful in enabling fast mode.I have installed the APKs but can't enable them with the onscreen gesture. Do they require a certain kernel?
Thanks,
Ben

Yes.
Read the [OC Kernel] thread.
To get NoRefresh you have to use v166.
FastMode should work on any kernel.

Are you sure as I can't seem to get FastMode to work on the 1.2.1 firmware? I have read the OC Kernel thread and its unclear whether it works.
thanks

I am on 1.2.1 no refresh works but fastmode doesnt despite max CPU showing 1Ghz.
Looks like you arent the only one with this problem.

Overclock?

Just rooted my phone and downloaded SetCPU.
Anyone had any problems with this? The app is only able to view the "read" part of the CPU and not the "write" so I don't think its actually doing anything. Its got the warning that some features wont work. Anyway to make it work?
Cheers.

Are you using an overclockable kernel?
Not that I know of,
I've rooted with unrevoked and i've downloaded the app.
Only thing i'm looking to do is overclock my phone and that was how I thought I would be able to go about doing it.
Any tips?
Sounds like you didnt give it access when it asked for it when it has that count down timer i think you press allow and it should then be fine but when i didnt press allow it gave the same error your complaining about
When I installed the app I allowed it access to my phone.
reinstalled and allowed and still having the same problem :S
its only the write: min frequency and max frequency
that the app doesn't have access to, I can't use the sliders to change the performance.
You can't overclock if you didn't flash the overclock kernel...
how do you do flash the overclock kernal?
Go to the rom development sub forum and flash jacobs kernel.

Yeah, I've looked at that, but theres no guide anywhere to let me know how to flash it. Is it a simple thing like rooting? Or is it a little more in depth?
Anyone know of a guide?

Download it, reboot into recovery and flash it... If you can't understand how to flash, i don't know why you should be doing this. There are guides all over this subforum and the rom development forum.

He is working on a new release, it's better to wait for it, but if you insist, here is a link to the current release
http://www.mediafire.com/?4crbdo338xzh4zh
And don't forget to read the notes he wrote:
Please upgrade even if you're happy with a prior version as there are some prospective issues with continuous debuggerd restart on prior versions which can result in your phone doing more work than necessary.
It is recommended to uninstall a prior version by flashing the attached uninstall ZIP before flashing the latest version.

1) .79 is the newest FW.
2) I don't have knowledge about governers, so I just set the same settings that I read in members' signatures. :cyclops:
3)I don't know how to get my phone supercharged as that thread is very messy and ununderstandable. :crying:

Nope, the Lupus kernel I used is compatible with any GB ROM. (but the bootloader must be unlocked)

[Q] OverClock Iconia A500 permanently

Here's a question.
and yes, I did read most of the A500 stuff before posting this.
I currently have CyanogenMod V 10.2, and a 4.2.2 kernel
Here's my question. I see in the recovery rom, an option to overclock.
how can I do this from inside the normal kernel? is there an option I just haven't seen?
I understand it needs to be be done inside the rom, but seriously, haven't seen any discussion on how to get this running on a regular basis.
thanks in advance

Why not make it easy, download and install SetCpu or any one of the multitude of OC apps on the market, and just set your OC/UV from there? You can select "set at boot" and it will retain your selections in the event of a re-boot.
Not all kernels are capable of OC/UV. This is all dependant on if the dev compiled the kernel with the correct frequency and voltage tables to allow this.
The fact that the CWM recovery has options, has 0 impact if the OC can be done. The OC option is in every recent CWM recovery version regardless of kernel being installed.
So my advice, download and install an OC app from play store, and check if your kernel supports it.
One more bit of advice... do not select "set at boot" until you have checked out your OC/UV settings.

Thank you very much. dumb Xnix person that I am, didn't think to check if there were any apps like that. will investigate.

[Q] CM 11 - Performance tab question/help

Hello xda.
I installed Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 today with no problems at all, however I've found something that seems a bit weird. (I know there is supposed to be bugs in nightlies, of course, but I thought i'd ask anyway.)
In the performance settings of the tab, it keeps the minimum CPU frequency to 1190mhz. If I put it to 300mhz, it will work, but as soon as I exit out of the performance tab, it goes back to 1190mhz. I figured that my phone was quite hot when I didn't use it, and that's how I found out.
Have anyone seen this on the latest CM11 nightly for the Note 3? I hope somebody out there know how I can fix it.
Many thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I've heard a little about kernels. The thing is, that this is the first time I've ever put a custom rom on an android device, so I'm not really 100% familiar with all this yet, however if the custom kernel won't be able to brick my phone, I sure would give that a try.
Should I go with the "stable" version or the beta version of the kernel?

Decepticon Kernel for Paragrine

Hey everyone,
I found this kernel in a Spanish forum for the Peregrine and installed on my xt1040 Moto G.
Other than compatibility issues, I have a question;
How long does installing a Kernel usually take? I believe I've been waiting at the Moto boot screen for 30 minutes or so, and the screen has dimmed to off, but it's still waiting.
I've been reading that it can take up to 10 minutes to flash a kernel zip. But this is much longer.
Can anyone tell me how long this should take?
Thanks a million!
im a falcon user and usually kernel flashibg takes about 30 seconds or less. there might be something wrong with whatever youre doing

I have Unlocked my bootloader, Rooted, installed ROMs, and still cant seem to get a custom kernel to work. I had the same problems with my HTC One S..all of the kernel zips would install but hang at the boot logo.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong for it not to work? I could never seem to get kernels to install on ANY phone. I waited about 50 minutes and nothing happened so I just installed cm11 again.
I have a peregrine xt1040 moto g lte.

Did you revert back to stock before flashing the kernel ?
Because it is a kernel made for stock rom, so with any CM11 based rom, it will not boot.
I tried yesterday the last kernel and it did work for me.
(4.4.4 eu stock)
Oh, thanks for the tip! I'm going to go back to stock and try the kernel again. Right?
Awesome!
SO this works for me now! Thanks for the info
I just did a stock recovery and flashed and it was flawless .

Glad to hear you managed to get it working.
Btw, did you try the "synapse" app?
In the original thread the creator of this kernel tells us to use this app to tweak the kernel, but it always FC for me, i had to use trickster mod, is it the same thing for you ?

Originally I was using Trickster Mod but after reading your post I tried Synapses.
Both work fine for me, Tickster Mod has quite a few options but Synapses has more.
As for the FC, I'm not sure what could be wrong. Try some fresh installs and see if you get it working. I know...Pain In The Ass!!! That or you could just use Trickster and not set as many peramiters.

I sent my Z2 for DOA swap and got Moto G 4G XT1039 for the time. I unlocked it, rooted and installed Decepticon. I would have used Faux123's kernel, but could not find it for Peregrine.
Now i installed Synapse and i'm asking you guys if you could share your settings.

Do faux sound and sweep2wake actually work?
Does the kernel affect the memory usage? Will I be able to have a music app like poweramp while web browsing with something like naked browser? Sorry for posting so many questions but I'd rather know these things before I spend money on a device that many not do what I need.

For Synapse settings, all I really change it the CPU Governor and Min/Max CPU MHZ.
MIN/MAX CPU - 192mhz to 1305mhz
And Governor to Performance or intellidemand, but with both I don't notice much change.
stable and lag free. I was getting crashes using TricksterMod but not with Synapse for some reason.

s2w doesn't seem to work for me. neither does UV but they are listed as features on the kernel's main post at thedarksideteam in their newest version. Not really sure when they will actually have them working.

I don't speak or read Spanish either, but with the help of Google translate you should be able to understand it for the most part [emoji16]
The kernel description is translated in English, so no biggie there. You do have to register before being able to download, but Google translate can help you there also.
The kernel is really worth the hassle though!
