Help please... I got it unlocked and rooted but can't load anything on it... can't seem to get the drivers right

if your on a CM based ROM then you need to unlock developer options and then check "enable USB debugging"
click on settings and about. keep clicking about like 8 times and it will tell you, you have unlocked developer mode. click usb debbuging.
or
I would check drivers under control panel and see if you have all your drivers up to date. It should say Android device or Nexus 10. You shouldn't have any yellow flags.
I have USB debugging enabled. In on a windows xp laptop and these drivers are crazy. I tried deleting all of my old ones and when I plug in my nexus sometimes MTP pops up... Sometimes Android Adb pops up... sometimes just adb pops up. Honestly I don't even know how I got it rooted but I'm glad I did. Used wugs toolkit

I believe that Microsoft really hates Android. I have the N4, N7, and the N10 and every one of them was a major pain in the butt getting Windows to recognize them. Of course none of them can use the same drivers..
Same problem here, diver will show but won't recognize to the point where I can get any files transfered... help?

did you get it resolved, I had the same issue. I then move to the rear usb port, you need to look for the safley remove media icon on the task bar. It should be there. when you plug the phone in the epic should show up. If not goto disk manager in windows and make sure that the drive letter that the epic is trying to use isnt already in use, i fit is change it.
The other thing is to make sure on the phone that you have selected the correct method, IE charging etc In my case the phone would show up as raw format yet it would show up fine on another PC. all i can think of is that it was something buggy with the USB.
Try a different USB port and if that doesn't work try a different cable.
If it still doesn't work try removing the drivers for the device manually, reboot the system and reconnect the device. It should automatically discover the drivers for you running Windows 7.
Also when you connect the phone to the system does the menu pop up asking you how you would like the phone to respond to the connection (IE. Mass Storage, Phone as Modem and whatever the 3rd option is)?

I've never gotten those options ever. Nothing pops up on my phone. I thought it was weird since I've heard about them, but never seen it, mac or pc. Any way this is connected to usb debugging being on?

Edit: yup, menu came up when I turned USB debugging off.
Glad the menu came up! The question is did the computer pick up the device?

Nope not even with the correct samsung epic win 64bit drivers. I couldn't for the life of me get then to see my phone. Reinstalled win 7 ultimate 32bit. Saw it right when hooked up! So I guess ill stay with my x32 edition :-(

You probably just got some drivers crossed. Manually removing the drivers should have fixed it versus reimaging the system =/

Thought this too...but I found 3 diffrent set of epic 6 bit drivers and no go...I'm up and running now. So ima stick with x32bit for now.

I tried to connect my nexus 4 to my PC , but it would not recognize it under my computer like it should so I could drag and drop. I tried mounting it as MTP and PTP and neither would be recognised.
I ended up transferring my pictures using adb, but I don't know why it didn't work the standard way.
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried using drop box? It's really simple and automatic. Just set it to upload only on Wi-Fi

I've used it before but I want to know why the nexus 4 was not recognised by my computer
Is Android debugging on?
Is it having trouble with installing the MTP driver ? Try turning off USB debugging, I couldn't get MTP to work until I did that.

Maybe you've got the same problem that we have here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005437
Maybe you try:
A different USB port
A different USB cable
Uninstall existing drivers + installing the drivers again
A different computer
And if all that didn't help you can join us in the above mentioned thread. We don't have a solution yet but maybe we can draw some attention to the issue.
All the driver seem to be fine and the nexus 4 is recognised via adb. It used to work before so I don't what's wrong.
Edit: yes USB debugging was on
Ok, but that's actually good! What happens if you plug it into a different usb port?

It says your device could be faster with USB 2.0 and then it is not recognised.
Now that's really odd. Have you tried a different USB cable?

I'm using the stock lg cable. I'll try with my nexus 7 cable.
Edit with my nexus 7 cable it says connected by the windows 7 notification, but when I check in computer it does not show anything
But you have seen your N4 in the explorer before, right? I have seen my N4 on my GFs windows machine as Nexus 4, not as a storage device.

It shows up under devices and printers, but not under my computer
Edit:maybe it has to do with android 4.2 because I just plugged in a flash drive and it showed up under my computer
And what happens if you double-click it there? Can you get your pix then?
Edit: I didn't find my N4 as a storage device, so you can't find it as a letter in your explorer but a real device.

If I double click it it takes me to nexus 4 properties. My nexus 7 does not show up in my computer either that's what bled me to think it has to do with 4.2
Edit:nevrmind its not 4.2 because I just connected a lg motion which is running 4.0 and it does not show up either
Maybe someone with a win7 machine can chip in here, since I think it is a windows problem. I am on a linux laptop, so I can't really help you there. But good luck anyway!

Thanks for your help
By George, I fixed it I went into device manager I right clicked on SAMSUNG android phone then nexus 4 under that section, then I clicked update driver. Then I clicked on browse my computer for driver software after I clicked on let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and I select mtp. The all of a sudden auto play came up with my device connected as a camera (ptp)
Now all my phones show up under my computer
MTP uses a completely different driver from ADB. So you can have one working but not the other.

I have no clue sometime when I connect the nexus 4 it shows connected as adb composite device and sometimes it says mtp.Now everything works though it took me a while but I fixed it.
No matter what I do my windows xp machine will not autoplay my nexus 4 so I cannot drag and drop files. I'm pretty sure I have the right drivers installed. I found them in some other thread. I know it's not the phone cause whenever I plug it into my roommates windows 7 computer it opens right up. Please help!

Tried that, nothing happened. In device manager it shows up as Android ADB Interface but my computer will not autoplay it for the life of me.
It should be showing up as an MTP device and installing an MTP driver if you want to be able to open up a file window etc. On XP this often doesn't work till you turn off USB debugging on the phone.
It sounds like you might still not have the correct MTP driver installed.

Upgrade to newer windows media player to get MTP on XP.

Want to start this by saying I'm pretty sure this is a pc issue rather than phone issue, I've had similar problems with every android I've owned. I installed drivers through the Nexus 4 toolkit and the tutorial by thesmokingandroid, my PC doesn't even acknowledge the phone. I get the beep when it connects and disconnects but the phone doesn't show up anywhere like my computer or device manager at all. Like I said my older phones would connect most of the time but almost always randomly disconnect/connect. I feel like it's likely a driver thing, never had problems with my iPhones or other things like mouse or keyboard. Is there a way other than a clean windows install to just clean my pc of any android related things like SDK or drivers? Also it's a custom built pc with 5 ports running win7, no ports will work. I added an in tower sd hub and feel like the problems might have started around then but I'm not sure on that. Any suggestions would be nice, not being able to connect my phone is an issue with no removable memory...
edit: Wanted to add that sometimes when I only have my mouse, keyboard, and Xbox controller connected I get those little connect/disconnect beeps at random and the bubble that says this device can perform faster. I'm pretty sure my ports are 2.0 too but I'm not sure how to check that.

I having the same problem. When I'm in fastboot mode my pc doesn't show my phone but when my phone is powered on it shows up on my pc. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Anyone? I'm ready to try reinstalling Windows but would really like to know if there's something a less time consuming I could try first. I can't root or anything so I'm going to have to try something soon.
Same thing happens to me a couple days ago.
My laptop recognized the phones, but it showed nowhere in Device Manager. Adb could see my phone, but as soon as I went to bootloader, my laptop said An USB port is unrecognized
SOLUTION: I use Nexus Root Tool Kit and Google NExus 4 Tool Kit to REMOVE the nexus 4 driver, everything related to nexus 4 is removed. I only used these tools to uninstall the driver, not to install them.
Then I turned off the Windows 7's Automatic Update Driver by Window Update (or some similar names). This is important, because the driver that windows install autimatically doesn't covery the Bootloader Driver. I dont remember how exactly I turned the Automatical Diver Update off. Maybe when the popup "unrecognized USB" appear, I pressed it and there was an option to do that. Or you can search google.
A link to turn the Windows 7 Automatic Driver Installation: http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/82054-turn-off-windows-7-automatic-driver-installation.html
Restart my computer after that. THen download driver from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312 ONly the driver.
THen Install it from DEvice Manager by plugging my phone again.
Finish.
I had the same issue,here's the fix:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036400
In my case, there was no wpdmtp.inf file in windows/inf,hence device wasnt recognised.
I'll give that a shot when I get home thanks.

Yeah, what causes so much trouble for me is the Windows-7-automatic-driver-installation. It helped me sometimes, but not with the NExus 4 :|
Hello.
Three weeks ago my Nexus 4 is recognized by my three computers (work, home and friend) like a drive. Now it is not anymore recognized by friend 's computer: I hear the sound of connection but no change in file manager. However it works fine on two other computers (home and work). In addition the Nexus 4 of my friend is always recognized by these three computers.
I tried to install N4 drivers on Friend 's computer. No change, my Nexus 4 is not recognized by friend's computer. I tried the debug mode too. No change. And the nexus 4 of my friend works on the three comptuters. Very frustrating .
These two Nexus 4 is updated with 4.2.2, in stock rom, not rooted, 16Go, v11.
Does someone could help me to solve this problem without saving my data and then restoring to factory values?:highfive:
Thanks.
I forgot to write that i used only one usb wire on the same usb port. To be sure that the problem is not the wire or the usb plug.
Do you currently have USB Debugging turned on? Turn it off and see what happens...the reason I say is that my work PC can either see is as MTP with USB Debugging off or through adb with it on - not both.
My Windows 8 Pro laptop at home works fine for both at the same time...worth checking out
Maybe try to uninstall the driver using the device manager?

Thanks i will try your solutions tomorrow. But these solutions doesn't explain why one Nexus 4 works on the friend 's computer and the other Nexus 4 doesn t work: same wire and same usb plug.
I plugged the nexus on my computer. And I unistalled the driver of nexus in my device manager unplugged and plugged again the nexus. And then let windows recognize the nexus and install his own compatible driver. Thanks nhatters.
The problem was that for run application named carbon I had to install in computer first the adb driver and carbon for computer. And this driver does not recognize my nexus which have not carbon (for mobile install).
i had the same problem few minutes ago .. i just turned USB Debugging on and voila the PC detected my nexus 4.
Aha i had the same problem i just lowered the notification shade selected usb device n selected camera option and reverted back to the media transfer and that fixed it
I am having the same issue but nothing seems to work and I dont even hear the connection sound in windows. I've tried uninstalling and installing drivers with sdk, device manager, and the other thing in windows which is callew dew I think and nothing no success, also I have tried to disable usb sebugging and mtf media storage and nothing. Is the only thing left to is buy a new micro usb cable?

Same problem for me on Windows 7. I have tried everything - different cables, different ports, enable/disable USB debugging. Even uninstalled drivers etc. It is getting detected on Windblows and is showing up in the taskbar as an USB device with a green mark. But it is not showing up as a drive or the MTP device. Frustrating to no end!
im gonna try to research in microsoft website which drivers are not originally installed in my computer and delete all the wird ones maybe some other driver from another hardeare like another cell phone or something is interfering. Hope I dont delete something that will make my computer not work right.
Same here, I can no longer transfer any files on to my Nexus 4 anymore. I'm using a PC and it no longer reads it. Only fast boot and adb on recovery works.

It's not the same because I've tried adb and nothing. Your problem can be fixed by modifying google drivers. In the other hand I tried a friends nokia phone with same usb cable and started installing drivers right away.. Mine does nothing, not even a connection sound just charging. so It's not the cable. I'm starting to think the micro usb port got damaged or something really wrong with the rom but still I've tried to see if reseting the phone works and nothing.
Seems like its an issue with 4.2.2. Since last week my N4 was acting very strange. when I connect to my pc; It would connect and disconnect every second. After checking in Device Manager; my Nexus 4 was listed under SAMSUNG Android Phone . I end up uninstalling it (plus check delete driver software). Then I rebooted my computer. It reinstalled the driver and now its working. Thought my wire was broke.
This worked for me, it shall work for everyone else
Open the start menu and type in device manager and click on it, it should npbringba window up. Now at the stop it should say android device or something similar, drop down that section and right click to delete "Google ADB Interface" which was for me should be for you also. After make sure you check the box in the confirmation to delete the driver. Reboot your PC plug in your device and enjoy!!!
