i just ordered the xperia z i have been in the hunt for a good phone for years now
something has ALWAYS stopped me either the phone isn't nice enough (i was THIS close to buying the padfone 2 untill i saw how the bottom bezel is thicker when in landscape mode looks weird)
i often considered xperia phones due to their square non rounded shape
but
i hated the curved back
i read nothing but bad about the hardware
i did not like the SE logo at the back even though it was a SONY not SONY ERICSSON
then i heard about the xperia z
a new sony flagship phone thats flat and completely square? even a z in the name it must be a sign since i have used this name since 2003
then came the reviews and videos
first i watched a youtube video some time ago complaining about the speaker placement
then i saw another video and review complaining about battery life and screen quality
screen is the most important thing for me
but today it finally came to sweden so i decided ok i am ordering it and the speakers probably won't be blocked by my hands in landscape mode
later i did some reading and decided to send the retailer an email about cancelling my order
i contacted sony on fb they told me i won't be able to block out the speakers
i then read on this forum that battery life is pretty great screen quality is great great blacks (which is important to me i don't want any backlight bleeding)
and then also read you can remove the pre applied screen protector to get rid of the sony logo making the phone COMPLETELY blank which looks even better so i was finally happy about buying it
then i started reading from other people that the screen quality is bad washed out colors viewing angles i could handle as as many people say you don't look at the phone from the side
so now here i am again having second thoughts
the design is what made me want it if it was rounded then i would have no interest for it what so ever
i also read that the htc one is better then the sony in every way so i don't know anymore
Reviewers and forumers will always nit-pick.
Wait till the htc one is out, then the complaints will roll in too... I can see it now... "curved aluminum back scratches easily" "why is the camera only 4mp" "speakers are blocked if it's in my pocket facing me" etc etc etc.
Just get the phone that you currently think fits your needs best. there never will be a perfect phone without any "issues", whether those issues are real or imagined.

Bought a white Xperia Z. 100% happy with it.
The device also really stands out as so many people have already commented on how sexy my phone looks.
My previous phone was a Sony Xperia S and this Z is a quantum leap in design, performance and features.
I've used phones before such as the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 and the Xperia Z is just better overall.

how is bloatware on it does it come with trial apps and apps noone wants if so can they easily be removed
(i did not buy the phone from ANY carrier it was bought from a pc retailer so unlocked etc)
then is it worth it to remove the shatterproof protector? i want the best possible picture and the fact that the sony logo comes off makes it even more interesting
but at the back the CE logo won't come off?
and battery life if the phone is in constant 3g and a very heavy game then how long can that game be played untill it simply dies (maximum brightness)
assuming maximum brightness won't mess up the black as then i won't touch it (unless colors get noticable worse with less brightness)

I keep my screen at about 50-60% brightness - it's plenty bright!
Bloatware will depend on the region. Mine is a singapore set, barely has any bloatware (whatsapp came preinstalled, but I use that all the time anyway...)
Heavy gaming I get about 4 hours.
Removing the shatter proof sheet will not give any noticeable difference to the screen. No, the back CE logos will not come off. Would be a violation of EU law.

Depends on the game. Try playing a really really GPU heavy game with your screen at about 60% brightness. If the game you play does not tax the CPU so much (if it's only single or dual-threaded for example) you'll see longer battery life.

i saw this video http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/02/11/xperia-z-display-comparison-roundup/
and it seems the htc kills the xperia z here
much more vivid colors a WHOLE lot better black level the xperia z has a white black?
edit:some of these are at viewing angles so thats why theres so much difference but that black level looks well

I really love the design on first day that I touch it, the screen is a little bit wash out compare to over saturated s3. For the battery path, i never use phone that much outside lol about 3 hours max on screen on and bluetooth music about 2-3 hours and I can make it until late night without charging (auto brightness on 30%). For speaker, my hand often block it when i use phone in vertical but after getting use to it the problem is gone.
Overall I'm not regretting for buying this phone even though the S4 spec leaked out look really awesome lol.

Well sorry about Swedish, seems silly to block out rest of the forums.
Anywho I think you should just try it for yourself, you can watch 1,000 videos, but you'll always see from someone else's eyes..
Try the phone it's out there for free to try in stores.

i just got an email from inet.se
my xperia z is being sent out today i have made the choice now i hope i'll be happy with it
this was really am impulse buy i never planned to buy it i decided it wasn't for me because of the screen quality i read about then i saw in fb that it's now in sweden so i decided to go for it
i have been VERY depressed lately past few months so i thought this would cheer me up
i decided to just go for it without thought i will never find a phone good enough if i keep looking
the one is perfect in terms of sound and screen but thats it front facing stereo speakers compared to one single speaker
but i don't think i will ever find one
i had the same thoughts when the note 2 just released i wanted it so badly but i backed out because it was a samsung and because i simply couldn't decide
(not against samsung just hate the name and designs of their phones)
i will peel off the film from the xperia z i am very interested in that to get the sony logo off and get better touch sensitivity and better colors
also peel it off at the back as it seems to get easily scratched
i hope i made the right choice i really do
wheather i want to root it or not remains to be seen but most points to no because of the risks involved and the fact you can no longer update it after it and that rooting will remove the bravia engine
though i have had experience once with rooting on my note 10.1 has worked perfectly ever since i did it
Personally I'd root it. Sony has to much bloatware. But preferably after a non unlocking method or something epic comes out ;p

well now i am yet again having extreme second thoughts for the padfone infinity
that bloatware comment just made it worse alot worse
if i don't get my phone tommorow i will cancel
what i wonder is how can the padfone infinity get 9 hours on video when the xperia z gets 4
they have the same battery
about 100 mah difference
the nfc logo comes of the back, the bloatware can be uninstalled without root just like any other app.
Great phone

I'd take a "Sony has too much bloatware" comment with a (big) pinch of salt - Sony is probably the "cleanest" and most "true to pure android" of the manufacturers out there.

Well for the sake of experimenting I just watched a 2 hour HD video and my battery drained 36% - so about 5-6 hours would be about right.

Some reviews mislead me to believe there was something wrong with this phone, I nearly regretted buying it due to the rumors of "bad" screen, low sound, bugs, performance, lag, battery life, and other concerns, but after several days of usage I must say:
1.- I am very pleased with the screen, my fears are gone. Comming from an Xperia S, this screen looks sharp, bright and the colours are beautiful. AMAZING. Viewing angles are not the best but they were OK enough to impress me and my Samsung/Apple-fanboy friends. The Barvia engine does an incredible job making pics and vids look vivid and alive. Cool. My sammy/apple-loving friends will never put me to shame again over screen quality: the screen made them drool ("is that really a Sony phone?").
- Not the "best" screen out there but at least adequate for a high-end phone, and a GREAT improvement over my previous Xperias.
2.- Bugs and lag. WiFi bug? What WiFi bug? Mine works flawlessly ( :fingers-crossed: fingers crossed). Lag? Camera does have some lag when starting, but nothing to die for (and it makes way better pics than any of my previous phones). I miss the "pinch to see al the widgets floting" screen but I apprecite the fact that Sony didn't change the new ICS/JB buttons layout and functions. I can make folders in my app drawer and many other goodies. The Album app shines and it's a plleasure to use it.
- Polished minimal Sony skin over the vanilla Android UI.
3.- Despite the bigger screen and the quad core, battery life is WAY BETTER than the Xperia S and SGSIII; no charges required during the day for me, and I am a moderate-to-heavy user. I have not messed with Stamina mode yet. My previous phones needed a charge by noon, this one goes all the way to about 6 pm.
- Nice battery life for such a big HD screen. A bigger battery would ruin the slim profile.
4.- I was very affraid of the sound level, but despite being waterproof the loudspeaker sound is OK, not as good as my Xperia S or the SGSIII but good enough, good enough for the alarm to wake me up (and that's a lot :cyclops: ) and good enough to be heard when in my pants pocket or to watch some youtube videos with my friends around in not-so-noisy environments. In-call sound is clear and it has some goodies to enhance the sound, be sure to check them in settings.
- The loudspeaker sound volume takes some sacrifices for being waterproof, but it's still enough for me. I'm not a DJ.
5.- WATERPROOF !!! (or splashproof or water resistant or whatever you want to call it). Boy I should have made some pics of my friends' faces when I submerged this baby in my glass of beer Take that SGS and Apple fanboys! Your phone is rubbish; mine is a shiny piece of waterproof polished cool looking purple glass
- Having a waterproof phone is definitively a BIG plus, especially in a rainy environment.
6.- Build quality is Sony-grade.I made a bet with my fanboy friends: let's drop your iPhone5s, your SGSIIIs, and my Xperia Z from only one foot high. They declined I did it just to show off. From two feet.
- Just what I expected from Sony: it not only looks but feels premium.
7.- Finally, the looks and cool factor. This phone is a chick magnet! They love it in purple. Ice-breaker, conversation starter (Lucky enough I'm not that kind of guy  ). The WOW factor is assured with this phone, not ubiquitous but exclusive.
- I don't know if the SGS5 will come out with a rocket-fuel propelled chip or a mind-controled UI, but this phone is simply the best-looking-phone.
CONS?
Well, I found that the loudspeaker volume went very low after the phone got submerged in water.
At first I was shocked, I thought I may have forgotten to close the seals properly and I thought I could have got some water damage, but after double-checking I realized the reason was very simple: the loudspeaker gets soaked in water.
To recover full sound level I had to:
a) suck the water out of the speaker or
b) warm the phone through a charge.
Now let me put my flame-retardant suit on and let's wait for your oppinions. Your mileage may vary, but mine has been great to date. Just my oppinions. Have fun.
.
amazing phone I felt the same way with all those negative reviews and if truth be told I did cancel my order but felt like I make the biggest mistake, had bad feeling in gut when I cancelled order and found myself taking it out on mates so I called back the next day and re ordered.
I am so happy now I love the phone its amazing. all this bull crap about screen people are missing the point in having a reality display it means the most true to life experience you can get and the xperia z delivers colours are real and they are awesome.
I can see it now samdung galaxy users replacing handsets because of water damage while wishing they opted for the xperia z lol
---------- Post added at 06:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:48 PM ----------
to clarify I have had no issues with the phone apart for the camera everything else is great. the speaker however is another story its not as good as the sony xperia s but its definitely nothing to be worried about its adequate, but im sure there is a mod floating around that sorts it out but since that's the case then im sure sony will tweak that in next update just don't hold your breath lol
I agree.
I've had a long list of phones android blackberry and iPhone and this puts them all to shame.
Most recently I had an sgs3 4g, battery was so bad.
This phone is big but very good

Thanks for your clear, concise, real-word opinion. I'm getting mine today and I've read a number of the niggle this, niggle that reviews so was getting a little worried but now I'm excited all over again.
First thing I'm planning on doing is putting the camera on timer then dunking it in my beer (actually probably someone else’s, don't want to waste my pint). My first ever bubble eye view from a pint!
EXACLTY
The reviews actually scared me off this phone for a while slamming the ports, the screen the battery life and "buggy" software. I was all set to buy and HTC One and then they got delayed in my country and the price they quoted was more than the Z so I bought the Z and I do not regret the purchase.
I love the screen, way nicer than the cartoony AMOLED of my Gnex, and Battery is amazing, Stamina mode when used correctly literally means when the screen is off 0% is used. its amazing, my phone uses about 30-40% per normal day!!!
I have loaded it up with triple the amount of music that I had on my Gnex (thanks to expandable SD) and my only issue was music quality which was quickly remedied by the ACID mod but my Gnex had **** music quality and i used a mod to remedy that also.
Camera is good, better than the Gnex and better then the HTC one was going to be but i dont use cameras and I have come accross no bugs, also its hacker friendly something the S4 and the One are not
LOVE IT
Agree with all of you guys.. Great phone great materials it feels so premium, good sound and battery.. Love it

I totally agree. It's the best phone I've ever had, and there isn't anything on the market that I'd rather have.
The screen is amazing. Not overly saturated like Samsung. I don't understand why anybody is complaining about the viewing angles — it's absolutely fine for me. Foreshortening becomes a problem before the "washed-out" colours do. And 5" is just the right size. It's big, but still easy to handle.
The battery life is great, even without stamina mode (which I haven't played with yet). It's better than my Xperia S, or the Samsung Galaxy R I had before that.
The sound is ample enough for me. I don't put it at 100% volume, and it's loud enough. I don't know what I would do with more...
My only complaints are minor:
1) the gray background for the navigation buttons should be black and not as high (but this is fixable with a mod, I know) and
2) the camera seems to have high-quality hardware but Sony messed up the software side with over-processing (but burst mode gives better results) — hopefully they fix this in the 4.2 update.
All I wanna say......
The smartphone I've always dreamt of. Thank you Sony for giving us this master piece!!!!

Check your battery stats to see what's draining your juice. To me, it was the screen and my mail apps. I stay in 2g (EDGE) unless I want to navigate the web, and I disabled google+ auto pic upload. Also, I changed to auto bright screen. I keep GPS on. BT goes on when I'm driving (smart tag) and WiFi turns on at home & office (another smart tag).
Happy.
Yep I think it knocks the socks off my Razr i for the quality of its wi-fi and fm radio reception. Screen absolutely fine, and camera too when I get to grips with it. Little annoyances are the caps over every orifice that make it look like it's held together with string (it's actually very sturdy) and fingermarks, fingermarks, everywhere. (And I can never get the last few key-location bubbles out from under the screen protector). Unfortunately mine is on a contract with the mickey mouse Three UK's stupidly named One Plan so mobile data and phone is pretty much a waste of space, but since it seems everyone in the overpopulated UK is falling over themselves to provide wi-fi services I can live with their let-down.
First, I love this Xperia!
I'm on stock 350 and rooted. Most of the time the phone works perfectly. However, 2 or 3 times already the phone gets a bit hot, and consuming a lot of juice, for instance using xda app on lte network. SetCPU identified 41 deg Celsius. I was checking battery usage and it gave me a good share for app Devices.
I was looking for info about this app (has the same icon as Movies) but nothing. I blocked it now with Titanium, will I miss it?

Looks to be using the new screen technology as seen on the Ultra & that looks a good reason to swap alone. Large camera sensor & 4.3 out of the box is impressive too. I was debating about getting a Z but glad I held off now.

It's not 4.3 out of the box.. At least not on the hands-on's available.
Also.. just the screen technology reason alone to update? Are you kidding me? It's the same screen as Z/ZL but with different software.. maybe different panel.
And what's wrong with Z/ZL screen? Still after months of usage I think it looks really great..better than HTC one for me.
Anyway.. I think it's too big either way
i want z1 NOW!!!:silly:
Have they given a release date for it?
Edit: I've just seen it will be released week commencing 16th Sep. Not long then!!
Preorder has started on clove.co.uk website. The price with VAT is 564£ so a little bit more expensive than the Z at launch.

Nice hands on by Three UK. Looks like a great phone. I love the new speaker placement, the camera and especially the 3000mah battery who cares about 1mm extra thickness.
No offence, but people who swap a phone after such a short period of usage, are freaks
While the Xperia Z was a big improvement over the previous flagship, I think the Xperia Z1 can be compared to the 'S' models of iPhones (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, etc.): roughly the same model, but with some small improvements (usually CPU and camera). Generally speaking, it's better to wait for a completely new model, than to buy such an 'S' model, because that will be outdated more quickly.
I want to know what the deal is for the U.S.........Sony says will release this month. OK - on what carriers, anyone in the U.S.?? AT&T?? They could have put out some more detailed info like HTC did when they released the One

Not quite mate. Usually the "S" updates from Apple get just software improvements and a slight GPU or CPU bump.
Here we get a much improved:
-GPU (dubbed 50% faster by Sony),
-much improved CPU Snapdragon 800 is the best processor in the world right now,
-redesigned casing for true premium aluminum feel, with a dedicated camera button, and a new speaker placement
-22% greater battery should be a great improvement
- a brand new camera lens with new stabilisation technologies
-new display with Triluminos technology
I would not call all of the above a mere "S" update
I believe it is being released with 4.2.2 not 4.3 but 4.3 is not far off.

Yes, same what apple and samsung does every year. Minor update unless u play games on your smartphone. My battery lasts for more then 12 h witch is 40 calls and about 50 msgs every day and I still have 20% left when back home. Camera is fine for me and I dont fell any slow downs or hangs while using XZ. Yes if u are a tech freak sure this might be a major update, most people would be happy to stay with XZ for a while.

The only thing worth updating is the new camera but it will not justify the price diference when u sell XZ to get X1. For 100 or 150 pounds u can get a nice camera few times better then in any smartphone.

I do agree with you that for an average user the upgrade is not gonna be very significant. Judging by the fact we are discussing this at xda-developers forums I am not taking you for an average user. I am not saying I am gonna upgrade as soon as it comes out but maybe wait a month or so for the price to decline. Xperia Z is a great piece of hardware though.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 4
Lets just wait and see for some reviews and maybe demo models at the carrier shops. Maybe I will decide to change as well but first I need to put my hands on it The price should drop after 3 months from release date. Till then we would know everything about it. I also hope that Sony will still support XZ in future.

I wonder if they fixed the waterproofness of the phone, since xperia z had issues after some time. Interestingly enough, the frame seems to have a plastic "ring" on the top and the bottom wich was not evident on the xperia z. Wonder if it's there to keep the back plate from lifting? Bu that's just an assumption.
All in all, the z1 is rated ip58, which is higher than z's ip57.
I will definitly not switch to Z1.
I like my XZ C6603 as it is now, the given Features are good enough this time.
As Apollo mentioned, better to wait for a completely new one.
Nevertheless the Z1 is a good step forward (Battery 3000 mAh :good.
Will you swap to the Z1?

It's not 4.3 out of the box.. At least not on the hands-on's available.
Also.. just the screen technology reason alone to update? Are you kidding me? It's the same screen as Z/ZL but with different software.. maybe different panel.
And what's wrong with Z/ZL screen? Still after months of usage I think it looks really great..better than HTC one for me.
Anyway.. I think it's too big either way

I thought it was using the same screen technology as the Ultra with the wider viewing angles that brings?
Sorry all about saying it came with 4.3 out the box as I thought that's what I had read in the initial articles.

Guys i had decided to get a Sony smartphone with waterproof,so i think this is the best option for me.
It costs about RM1,200 in Malaysia.
I'm also considering of Xperia Z1 but it's too expensive, costs about RM1,700,which was out of my budget.
So guys please tell me about this phone cons & pros, and about the 4.3 update performance, thanks :fingers-crossed:
Got some questions, will you think that Sony will support it till 2015 ? (Maybe Android 5.0)
Is it worth it to buy ? Any problem with it ?
1 more thing should i wait for Sony MWC 2014 ?
Maybe Sony will unveil a device which have the specs of about SP.
The Sirius will be pricey so i can't afford it.

It's a solid phone, but the 4.3 update brought serious bugs, the cam and battery time is greatly affected by those bugs. Let's hope sony fixes them.
Also it won't get past android 4.4.

It is a good phone. there are some issues with the back plate coming unglued (if you would read the forum instead of asking for the info to be served on a silver plate you'd know ).
the 4.3 update is fast and fluid, and i have found no bug except for "excessive delay, took vsync XX ms", which I have not read about on this forum, and a symmetry bug when taking screenshots.
battery life is ok, I can play ingress for ~3.5 hours (3g, GPS, screen on, rendering tons of 3D graphics)
it will hopefully be supported until 2015 (the Xperia T also got a 4.3 update...)
It is a good phone. I recommed update 4.4 rom

There's no exploit to root 4.3 currently, so the only way to root if you're already on 4.3 is to unlock your bootloader and flash a kernel with a custom recovery.
Either that or downgrade to 4.2.2, root and flash a prerooted 4.3 rom.

Hi Ben,
Its a good phone, I've used same Z for almost a year now. Like the others comment here, watch out for the back cover issue. Find a shop to glue it back with 3rd party glue if it loosens, coz the foam strip glue will not last more than a year or so....water goes in...all kinds of problems in drying. And ensure the flap covers are locked in tight when you wash your phone.
Ben, may I kindly ask the contact of shop you got your Z from ? At that price, I might get a spare one as my current one has been flooded with water many times....Thanks

Hi,I stay in Malaysia and i bought from a handphone shop at RM1,230 for not original Sony warranty and white color from here http://www.mudah.my/li?ca=8_s&id=88141
a few things you should keep in mind
camera is bad
phone gets hot
battery life is mediocre
screen has washed out colours
wifi is weak
sony is late with updates
dev scene seems to be a bit slower compared to the HTC and Samsung flagship devices.
also, i listen to a lot of music so the flaps get annoying

- The camera isn't perfect and isn't great under low light, but is acceptable under most conditions for me. Hopefully, an update will return the camera quality to what it was under 4.2.2.
- The phone only gets hot after extended periods of playing demanding games for me.
- I get at least 5 hours of screen on time and 2-3% of battery drain overnight. Hardly mediocre.
- The screen may look washed out when compared to other devices, but to me the colour is more natural.
- I get good wifi reception at the end of my large garden, maybe 60-70 metres from my router.
- At least 6 updates, including 2 upgrades to new versions of Android in 9 months is late with updates? If you want fast access to the latest version of Android, you should have gone Nexus.
- Less popular devices will have less dev support. The development section is far from dead though.

+1 to that
The only thing that isn't that good on the screen are the black levels and viewing angles.
I honestly cant see a big difference to my n5 screen except these.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
People think the screen is washed out because they're usually comparing it to a Samsung device that the colours are hugely over saturated on.
Like I said, I think the Z screen actually more faithfully reproduces colours rather than trying to make them pop out of the screen.

On UI it's more settle so it doesn't kill the eyes.

Hi @eclyptos. I've been happy with Z1 since the day I bought. It may not be perfect but it is a big leap fir me coming from an Xperia acro S. I just wish that Sony could've waited at least IFA this year to release the successor of Z1 as the 6-month cycle makes the current flagship behind sooner (now I know the feeling of Z owners haha). Though I know and everyone knows that tine will come there will be new and greater ones coming. Again it's just my thought, I hope no one will react violently. And again my obly wish is to have at least most of the Sirius' features will be available on Z1 once it geta the 4.4 update.

I can't help but wonder, why do I have to pay about 500 Euro (contract free) for a flagship with a disappointing screen when I'll have to pay the same sum for a flagship with top-notch screen in a month or two... Viewing angles don't bother me as much as the yellow tint and the fact that White balance, although improving things, impacts the brightness and contrast in turn. And, what drives me mad, the user is supposed to (partially) fix something that shouldn't have got past Sony's quality control in first place. White balance should be used for fine adjustments according to each one's personal preference and not for fixing a faulty display altogether. So, after exchanging 5 Z1 devices, each one suffering from yellow tint to one degree or another (some of them even from dead or stuck pixels), in a blind hope of getting one of those "unicorn" units with a Z Ultra-alike display, I am finally throwing the towel. I'm glad I can still return the last Z1 I have gone for. It could have been an EPIC phone to cherish and remember but just because of the poor screen it isn't. It's a good, decent device but I can get that for half the money. I'll wait for Z2 or whatever its name will be, and if Sony provide the same "display lottery" disgusting experience with it, I'll go for another brand, as much as I don't want to.
So, you guessed right, I voted with "No" in this poll.
I was unhappy with the device, so i sold it and tried to find new phone.
but i could not find any other devices better than z1
so just bought it again and now i am happy knowing that the z1 is the best out there

Happy with:
- Picture quality in good lighting conditions
- Build quality
- Design
- Light and useful UI
- Expandable memory
- They put the charging pins to not have to keep opening the flap
Not happy with:
- ASF (for the Love of God, Sony, just put a highly scratch resistant tempered glass that's more scratch resistant than the glass under the ASF)
- LED flash when using it as a flashlight - it's very weak
- Allowing T-Mobile US to lock the bootloader
- No brightness slider in the notification drop-down or (not allowing more quick settings to be used)
nope. its still with the f**ken service centre.
I really miss it
I got a Xperia Z Original(tmobile) and just waiting for it to be delivered.
I use a Windows Phone now and only ever used like 10 apps total. Might use 20 at most in a day.
Is this phone still a good for casual performance. I mostly use music, video, email, social media apps, and not much else.
All else is done in the browser.
I won't be running multiple apps a lot,no new games.
Also I heard the screen is terrible at an angle, but also heard it's not the screen, but sonys settings.
So can it be made better at viewing angles with software tweaks or is really that bad.
I got for around $120, which looks good for 5 in. 1080p phone.
Just not too sure how the processor holds up.
edit: sorry I put this in wrong forum section, not sure how to move it. Please move.

What do you mean poor battery.
Is it okay or really bad?
I don't use my phone with screen on for too long.
I once had a galaxy nexus and that thing would drain like 1% a minute with screen on!
In the span of 30 minutes my battery was like a 70!
Xperia Z is good but it was a history..
i'm using Xperia ZL though, there no different between this Z and ZL since there are brother more like a twin..
both of it sucks at battery life if you upgrade to android 5.0.2 which means you have made one mistakes and you will experience phone overheating like you can put your pan and make omelette on it with the battery draining like hell when display remain on because i only got less than 4 hours if device screen remain on plus the camera won't be capturing nice photo anymore even the android version is rising up from 4.1.2 tp 5.02, but the camera quality is falling down and down..
Positive sides is...
The music? i admit my ZL in 5.0.2 sounds better..no scary sound like others, i got more clarity of my music..
i salute for this phone is still smooth eventhough 2 years old and quite satisfying performance but poor battery life.. Well that's it.. my opinion..
I'm migrating to Lenovo Vibe Shot until 5.1.1 is out.. Goodbye
Good to know, wasn't Sony supposed to roll out updates for Android 5.1 this month?
Not sure if it will updated or not, when I receive it.
As to me,the battery drop 1% in 2-3min
I think...if you use it just for receiving phone call
It can satisfy you of course.
But if you want to play games or surf the net
I would suggest you to do it with a powerbank
If you don't care about battery problem and photo quality
Xperia Z will be very suit for you !
The screen isn't that bad, only at angle viewing, not when viewing straightforward.
Also, battery should be replaced after 12 months, for every phones brand so..
And I use custom kernel which throttles the cpu when it gets warm so my phone stays cool
But I'm afraid with tmobile u can't unlock bootloader and therefore not flash custom kernels.
Anyway, I think this phone is still a good one to get. (better that windows phone lol xD)
It was actually sony's flagship in 2013..
Are the dock connectors on the side the same from Z-Z3?
Some of the magnetic cables that use the connectors say only Z1,Z2,Z3.
They never mention Original Z, so did they change the connectors for the dock after the Original Z?
Yes. The Z have different connectors than Z1, Z2 and Z3. Each Z phone have a specific dock for charging. I don't recommend the magnetic charging cables.

If you set screen brightness to 70%, battery life isn't that bad. Screen is ok when you normally look at it. Also, you can downgrade Android version and everything will much better! No heating, better battery life, better photos...

hmm since it will be getting tmobile version, is it that hard to downgrade?
One last thing, what docks do you use for the xperia Z.
The Sony docks are kind of expensive and have seen some cheaper ones for like $10.
Would a third-party dock work well?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DBVV8QA/ref=twister_B00DAV8Q1G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Got this one for $3.86, since I had like $4 in amazon credit.
we'll see how slow it charges, most third party chargers charge really slow.
Also any big issues to be aware of?
I've seen some forum post of people saying the phone screen cracked without them touching it.
SD cards being killed by the phone.

I just bought a 2nd hand Xperia Z,and it asked me to update so I pressed it and I end up with 5.0.2. Battery runs out on me twice a day pretty heavy user, I got the paid version of poweramp and about £20 worth of widgets and skins for poweramp player and I can only use the default skin and widget, and I mainly use it just for music, I tried to root my phonyyesterday with kingroot and it worked, I don't know what happened but I got rid of the root, as I didn't know what to do after I rooted, I want to use custom rom and delete unused apps what I never use, if anyone got any help for me after rooting, I wasn't able to update SuperSu it wouldn't update, I don't know what ideas doing really.
