Hello, everyone. I have recently installed android on my HD2 using a guide here on the forums. Everything worked so perfectly until I bought an extended battery. The battery is 2300, and it is an official HTC battery. The problem is if i put the extended battery and turn on the phone, the phone starts fine, loads and but right after 1 second when the home screen is loaded the phone crashes. I tried with and w/o SD card, connected to the charger and the problem still persists. But when i put the old battery, everything works just fine. Do i need some kind of software update? a driver? or is the battery defective?
Try to charge your battery, with phone off, for a few minutes and then turn it on. Maybe your extended battery came empty...

Hi there,
First I apologize about my poor English, I am Brazilian and should speak portuguese, but this is the best forum ever... so I'll try my English
My story:
Four days ago my 1,5 years old 9100 running the WM6 NTS was working perfectly, the best device I ever had. But, at night, I removed the battery to get the SIM card and then I put the battery back but did not turn on the phone. I used the SIM card in another phone during the night. I was afraid to lost it.
In the morning, I removed the battery again, put back the SIM card and then the battery. When I tried to turn it on, nothing happened, just like as if it was without any power. I was surprised, because I had fully charged the battery in the night before and before I first remove the battery, it was about 80% of power. So, I decided to try to recharge again, but there was no lights on. I left it charging for about 10 minutes and got nothing.
So, as I was leaving home, I put the 9100 in my pocket, after a few minutes I tried to turn it on again and it worked. The battery meter was showing about 80%.
Ok then… It worked well on Monday. But when I woke up yesterday morning (Tuesday), the phone seemed to have self-restarted during the night. So, I typed my password and it started working well again. I checked the battery meter and it was showing about 40% of charge. After a few minutes the phone seems to be totally dead. I tried to charge it again and after 2 hours I got nothing, it was still dead, did not turn on and there were no lights on.
Later on that day, I got a multi-meter and checked the battery tension. With the positive on my left I could check that measuring the power with the wires on the 1st “slot” and on the 3rd on, I get 3.47V. Measuring the 1st with the 4th I get 3.63V and measuring the 1st with the 5th or 6th I get 3.75V. Check what I mean at http://webtennis.rg3.com.br/qtek_9100/battery.gif.
I tried to remove the battery, then put it back and then turn it on again… It started, but in a few seconds, when was showing the OS, SPL, etc… it went off. I tried that again; it started, loaded the OS and went off. Once again I tried this, but with the power cable on, so it started but in seconds was off again.
So I thought “that might be a bug, maybe if I run the update utility it will work”. I started the phone in the bootloader mode, but before I connect the USB cable and start the RUU the 9100 went off. A few more times tring to remove the battery and starting it again, it went off and never came back again!!
I plugged the power cable on the wall and on the phone and there were no lights on, but I could feel the battery a bit warmer, just like it used to get. I left on the wall all night long and today in the morning still nothing. I removed the battery for about 30 minutes and got nothing, neither the screen with the OS, SPL, IPL…
Now I am despaired, don’t know what to do, no clues. I am in Brazil and don’t know where I can take to be repaired and have no plans to get back to Canada or Europe for the next 3 months.
Can you help me with this problem? I love my phone and want it working again.
Thanks for all your help.
Battery problem...?
It seems as thought you may be having a problem with your battery, not your phone. Try buying a battery off eBay, they are pretty cheap, and that should tell you what the problem actually is.
Or if you know anyone that has a wizard, try your battery in their device. If the problem is still appearing, then you will know that you just need a new battery.
Battery or charger ?
I agree with zakhir_n, it sounds like a battery issue not the phone. My friends MDA battery died after 2 months of use, so you can never be sure. We swapped batteries and revealed it was his battery not taking a charge.
Next check that you are using the original charger. I went away on business and grabbed the nearest charger for my 8125. Needless to say I grabbed a Motorola charger and it refused to charge the dead battery. Make sure you have the original charger, as it MUST say 1000ma or 1Amp output on the plug. The Motorola one I used was only 500ma or .5Amp and it was unable to recharge a dead 8125 (MDA) battery.
New status: WORKING
Hi there,
Thanks for all the posts.
Well, I checked my charger and it is a 1A 5V and my battery gets 100% of charge.
This is what I did:
Fully charged the battery, removed it for about 1 day an then I turned it on. Surprise!!! It was working and worked for 20 minutes and went off again e seemed to be dead.
Once more I the same thing but this time I flashed it with an official ROM. Fully charged the battery and removed for about 1 day. When I tried to turn it on, it worked as it was new.
So I flashed it with the WM6 Core 2.0n. It worked perfectly. When the battery got 80% of power, it restarted itself for several tines.
Now I bought a new battery and it is working very well, no problems till now. Guess you were right… I really had to change the battery.
Thanks for all the help and sorry about my English!!!
Regards,
Arthur
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
Hi there… Got the worst birthday present ever!!! Today I woke up and my QTek 9100 wasn’t working.
I got a new battery, when I put it on my phone it was 54% of charge. I used it till it gets 13%, then I fully charged it with my computer’s USB cable. Used the phone for 1 day and the battery was again around 80% of charge (just like the other time). I put it on “flight mode” went to sleep. When I woke up……. it was not working anymore, I put back the old battery and got nothing.
Now it is with the new battery being charged with my wall charger (1A 5V), but there is no lights on.
I already tried to run the WM5, tried a new WM6, checked the charger, replaced the battery and none of this seems to solve my problem… Do you know what more I could try? Do you know where I can send it to fix in Brazil?
I don’t know what to do… I already sent e-mails to QTek and to HTC and after 1 week got no answer…
Thanks for all the help!!!
Hi, wonder if anyone is experiencing the same problems I am having.
When the phone is in standyby (screen off) the phone goes to sleep and I struggle to get it to restart. Previously removing the battery and pressing the soft reset a number of times and then re inserting the battery the pressing the start button has got it to restart but as time has gone on it is happening more frequently and becoming more difficult to restart.
The last time it occurred (Sunday Morning)I could not encourage it to restart. I had heard that you could run the phone with the mains connected and the battery missing, so I gave this a try and noticed the start button led illuminte orange and the phone vibrated, I then went to place the battery back in and noticed that the phone stayed on its booting cycle until the battery was fully inserted and then everything stopped.
I tried again the same occurred but this time I held the battery on an angle such that the battery was connected to the three connectors on the phone but not inserting the battery completely and everything worked fine.
Then pushed the battery all the way home and the phone stopped, I noticed that on the back face of the battery and on the back of the phone there are an additional two terminals / contacts and it seemed that when the battery made contact it stopped the phone. I now have a post-it note covering the terminals in the phone with the battery fully inserted and it works perfectly and has not gone to sleep once for the last 24 hrs. I have also charged the phone successfully so proving that covering these contacts does not effect the charging.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
What are these terminals for?
Am I best sending the phone back to HTC?
Any help would be appreciated.
Come on guys can anyone help I don't know what to do
Any suggestions
Send it back..
I would.
You have paid so much for it that it should work without using tricks.
Exchange it for one that works, before you put too much work in it
Sounds like you have a hardware problem with either the battery or the phone. Have you tried taking to a mobile shop and using a different battery?
Otherwise I would return it and get a repelacement device
Hi there,
when I woke up this morning, I hit the power button to switch on the display, in order to see, if there are any emails. However, my HD2 would not switch on. Panically, I connected it to the power cable - no light on top. Aaah... What happened? Yesterday, in the evening, everything was totally fine, everything worked, no problems so far.
Then I took out the battery, put it back in and then the HD2 started up again. Thank God! The battery was still at 80% - so, I am still wondering, what happened to my phone tonight.
Do you have any idea? Did you have a similiar problem?
My blackberry had same issue like your. I replaced the battery, and problem solved. If it's happen to your hd2 again or more times, try to replace battery.
Is it possible you dropped or knocked the phone when you put it to sleep
the night before and dislodged the battery ?
it's probably just a "sudden phone death" problem like it has been first pointed out several months ago in this forum... relocating the battery to force a reboot usually works
Something within Sense or WinMo likely crashed whilst the phone is in standby and it wont recover without a battery pull or pressing the reset button (red one under the battery case).
Updating to another ROM/Radio can remove these problems.
Hey guys, my herald suddenly started acting weird. It was working fine. Had occasional battery problems (like immense battery drain) but suddenly I took out the battery, reinserted it and it didn't switch on. I kept pressing the switch on button but to no avail. I attached my mobile to the data cable to check if this was a problem with my rom rather than the battery. I accessed the bootloader by soft reset and used romupdateutility to hardspl it. When I switched it back on the "Cannon Yang" sign appeared and the cell phone switched off. Also, when in bootloader, if i took out the charger or the data cable, the cell phone switched off by itself. It was working fine a few hours back though. So I went to purchase a new battery, got a hold of one, it was a bit bigger than Herald's original battery but could fit in. It's running fine, just that the back cover won't fit properly, but one problem, when I charge this battery, it doesn't charge rather the "Main Battery" says Unknown. Same thing happens when I connect it via data cable. Is there any way I can use my old battery again? What might be the problem? The phone barely switches on and when it does, it switches back off after the Cannon yang logo. With the new battery, the phone is working but the battery won't charge or rather would show the main battery as Unknown. I'd be grateful is someone could help me on this. Thanks =)
Buy a new battery. Sounds like it's dead. Just got 1 couple months ago for less than $5.00. Where did the other battery your using come from ? Better make sure it's the same specs as the other.
I read in one of the discussions see that one problem identified in WP7 install on HD2 is no charging when the device is off. It is referenced as a maglard issue.
However, I am facing a completely contrasting problem. I am using an extended HTC battery and since the time I have installed WP7, the device does not charge while it is switched on. I see the charging icon blinking when the phone is kept on charge, but even after hours the battery status does not change. I unplug the charger and immediately the battery warning pops up.
However, when I switch off the phone and then keep it on charge, the battery does get charged up to 25% (guesstimate by seeing the battery icon after I switch on the mobile) and the orange led light is on. The led light turns off after 15-20 minutes and the mobile does not charge any further. Also, after this, when I try to switch on the handset by pressing the power key, nothing happens. I have to take battery out, reinsert it and then switch the device on.
It is making WP7 a very unpleasant experience for me so far. I have not yet activated the Live services on the WP7 install but I do not think this could be a reason for the charging issues.
Is this a peculiar problem or is anyone else facing this issue? Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
As far as I am aware magldr doesn't support the extended battery. I suspect it partially charges when off while normal batteries don't is that the ext bat has some extra control circuits for the extra bit but relies on the phone to charge the rest which itcant.
I wouldn't risk keeping a battery constantly so low charged, you risk damaging it or the phone. If you must stick with wp7 I'd flash back to Wm and give the bat a good charge every few days just to be safe.
Extended bat is not yet supported on WP7 so thats why its not charging.
You should either go back to 6.5 or Android until bat drivers are made for extended bat.
