I am representing my dad.
He has a new note 10.1
Any good apps to start with?
Le Dads Note 10.1
Clockwork Mod Recovery + Titanium Backup Pro .

What's the definition of "good apps" for your dad? What does he want to do? To read news, books? Play games? Watch video? Manage calendar? Take notes? Draw?

clockwork mod recovery is a Bad app to recommend .Unless someone ask what recovery do you like...between the two..
I would say google play store is the best app.. Let him figure out what he wants to use it tablet for..
I do recommend asking him what he is interested in.. Maybe News apps TV Show apps and reviews. GOOGLE + For sure..
Root / custom recovery flashing firmware . STAY CLEAR .. If you have to ask you dont know..

You have to download whatever stuff you want to read/watch/listen to. It has maybe one sample of a manual book (can't remember), but that's pretty much it.
Books you have download and movies are streamed from the nextflix app or if you're a prime member from there videos app built into the UI. Music is also streamed and I do believe you have the option to download music from the cloud onto the internal memory.

I've subscribed to about 6-7 different magazines in the playstore and am wondering if there are any good reader apps I can use with playstore magazines.
Does moon+ or aldiko detect playstore magazines? Which would you recommend?

So there are no 3rd party apps for reading playstore magazines?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Try Zinio. There's quite a selection on there.
What is wrong with the Play Store app itself?

Nothing really, but some magazines don't allow zooming in so I was wondering if there are any 3rd party apps that had that ability. I also was hoping the page turn animation was more like Google books. Little things like that.

ok i have a bunch of mobi books i want to convert using calibre. i would like to view them using the google play books app. i like the page turn graphics and it looks like a nice app on the N7. my question where is the folder to put the books in so the app recognizes them? sdcard/android/data am i warm here?
i think play books uses the epub format but i'm not real positive on that either just yet. i know there is a kindle app because i have it installed but play books blows it away.
thank for any help. (;
You should get something like moonreader+ but I believe that is for epubs. There are a few threads around that I have seen recently that have the answer.

You can't add books to the Google Books app other than get them via Google Books.

They may not be pirated books, I have quite a library with Kobo (I have a Kobo eReader) but I can't stand the Kobo app. So I download the ePub from Kobo Books and remove the DRM.
The thing is, do we know what format the books are downloaded in when you download them to the Play Books app. When books are downloaded to the Kobo app, they are downloaded in KePub. Which is Kobo specific.
I really cant belive no one has figured out where the books are held and how we can get stuff in there. I know there's a ton of apps that can read all types of files I just really like the widgets that display google books as well as I like to just use google play apps for everything....
Just an educated guess...
/data/data/com.google.android.apps.books/....
but there are most likely stored in a database rather than in individual files. Would need to obtain another book to see what changes.
I also love the look, feel and responsiveness of the Google Books app. None of the page turns of other apps come close to how smooth that is. It's always awkward and laggy. Really wish we could add books to the stock app. Until then, I hope one day one of the other readers copies it's page turning.
Did you find out where your books "go"?

I know yours is an old post, so I assume you've found a solution.....but for others who stumble on this....I used FB Reader and just copied and pasted my book files into FB's Books folder using EZ Filereader (I THINK that's what it's called....but probably any file manager will work).

Books can be added with Dropbox app and opened using any reader installed on your device. Personally I like aldiko the best. Still trying to find books that were added using google play books.
The last version of youtube enables the preloading (caching) of all the videos you add in the watch later playlist. But it needs to be online in order to play them, for some crappy reason. Is there a way to bypass that and play all the videos in "watch later" while offline?
Some info on this feature and the crap reason.
YouTube, careful to draw a distinction between this and total downloading of its vids (which breaks its terms of service), is careful to point out that you’ll still need to be online for the first second when you press play.

Guys, he doesn't want a YouTube downloader. He wants to be able to play the video the official YouTube app caches but while offline. OP, I didn't know you could do this, I'll look around for a way.

I can't get on WiFi at the moment but, I'm thinking that YouTube would store the videos on your phone. I'm thinking in the /data partition under one of the YouTube apps folders. I'll check later tonight once I have WiFi.

Just use a YouTube down loader. I know its one extra step but if its worth the extra step then do it.
Use PVSTAR+ as player - it searches and shows youtube vids, and stores them in a cache. You can also copy them out of the cache and they are normal mp4 files. (it also has a mp3 mode, which only downloads the music part it seems). The app also runs in background and with screen off. Completely replaced youtube app with it.
(it also searches on dailymotion and i think you can add other sites)
