I know Huawei is worst company to provide updates as Android 2.3 has not been provided yet. Android 2.3 is coming end of this month according to Huawei. But the real question is whether it will get ICS.
ICS have lot of UI changes with performance improvements. I think google should work with OEM's to help them provide updates.U8800 is capable of running ICS smoothly.
800 Mhz qualcomm processor: Android 2.3 works on most 600MHz processors. ICS will not require >800MHz processor to run smoothly.
512 MB of RAM: ICS require only 256 MB
Adreno 205: it will take care of Hardware acceleration
800*480 resolution: it is pretty good resolution to run ICS.
i dont know about offical, but unoffical maybe

Well, Oxygen 3.x (w/ Android 4.0) is coming to the Desire, Nexus One, Nexus S and Galaxy S II and maybe dzo will port it to our dear device
I don't think so. not supported.
Official? Maybe not
The only hope is from devs, as ics source been published. I'll check development section daily

well if we will get 2.3 by huawei this year - then asuming all their work on this version - we will get 4.0 android when there will be android 4.5 or 5
Anyway we still doesn't have stable normal good working custom 3.5...so huawei will fail with their 3.5 version... and maybe ICS is not so good as 3.5 who knows.. - newer - doesnt mean better. we can look at Windows - from XP there is no improvement.

How do you know that, who gave you this fact...because technically ICS can run on any device that is capable of running gingerbread and the OS adapts to the specs of the phone so surely our phones are capable of running it, maybe not an official release but most likely from an unofficial port.
Htc Tattoo which is low level device and never updated from android 1.6 officially, now runs GB 2.3.5(custom roms) without problems.
So, X5 definately can run ICS.
Installed Oxygen 2.3.1-u8800_r1 build GWK74 with Android 2.3.7 at 1.0 Ghz
Works fine for me.
Superfast and stabile , fun to work with as everything is smooth and fast.
Only had to manually re-install some apps , because the provided ones did not work, like google voice-search and wifi theter.
Let's hope ICT is even better.
Huawei Ideos X5 U8800 , Oxygen 2.31-u8800_r1

This kernel is for ICS, made in China.
Basically a 420MB RAM is the only difference from other kernel (although it's a big one).
Not working:
-Video recording
-HW decoding
-Camera FC when changing resolution (seems to be a problem on every ICS ROM)
Working:
Everything else
Original thread:

The original thread says that the developer tested it with CM9 and AOKP builds.
Have fun!!

OMFG this kernel is AWESOME!!
Working great here!
EDIT:
Gameloft games don't work couse they use a HW decoded Gameloft logo movie at the beginning so the phone restarts.
What about building a new kernel like this one but... In english ?
My assumption that this would be:
The ramdisk or whatever it called has been modified, i have heard this before with my Nexus S, its so called : BIGMEM...

Is this based on platypus? Or did he only took the updater-script of it?
This should be placed in SGS development!
I won't post it in development as I didn't do any. (And I don't know how to!)

Not a lot of people come here... Hope they notice it? lol
nice
tried on Dark knight.
work very well. but camcorder fc.
interesting
Isn't part of the RAM required by the gpu? Maybe that's why it has hardware decoding issues??
We normally get 340Mb Ram with bigmem kernel (break HD record), he disable the MFC in http://pastebin.com/f5ytsipx so the kernel reclaim 70Mb from video HW decoding, so the kernel got 420Mb, but it's not the way to do things, probally will never get into out mainline kernel
Uuh, if there only was a way to keep HW decoding AND get 420 mb! My SGS sure could use extra 70mb, 330 is just NOT ENOUGH for Android.
Wow, I would love to try it if it were a gingerbread (stock) kernel .
If people want to use multiple kernels, it probably only takes a minute to flash an alternate kernel and reboot your device. that way you get the best of both worlds (but admittedly it is not the best solution).
I just went and read about the thread since I can read chinese lol
The dev there said he based his kernel on this guy https://github.com/ngiordano/ics_3.1.10
and Funnnny was correct, he disabled the MFC so that android can reclaim the reserved ram from that unit, which is about 70MB. But this breaks hardware video decoding and camcorder.....
But he made a compensation in the recovery so that when you need camcorder you can reboot and flash standard kernel, when you don't need it, you can flash back to the huge ram kernel....
dunno if that's useful....
Oh but can't play any games. Giving fc. I'm very interested! If you can override videos in game, you can play. Lets find a way to fix it. Think think rhink

Is it just me or does dedicated RAM seem not necessary? Maybe it is possible to remap video/gpu/camera or whatever to shared RAM?
+1 oswade.
btw, which one to download??:there's one named i9000 and another t959 kernel panic fixed.
edit:well I downloaded the i9000 one. .it feels good to see 240 mb free ram on the info screen.
hope some developer further develops this idea.

Dedicated RAM isn't necessary of course, but the Exynos SoC have MFC module that expect to use the Ram at a specific address, so the kernel can't touch it (known as reservation).
We can't just take the reserved Ram and use it, because next time when the module need it, it'll only use the Ram at the address it knows, and bang, the phone rebooted like the kernel in OP.
This is not just bad design at software level, maybe bad hardware design too, but I'm not system expert so I can't say anything here, but Exynos is a cool SoC and we should live on with this.

I've tried:
Dead Space
Andry Birds
Reckless Getaway
Hot Springs Story
They does work.
SPY mouse restarts the phone. I guess, it has a video in it.
Anyway, this kernel is rather interesting. I do hope that devs would find a way to trick SGS to play HD videos in software mode to avoid reboots. This way we'll have 70mb extra ram and won't lose anything - even if those videos would lag - who cares?
Also tried this kernel on ics slim and it feels good to have such ammount of free ram.
I also run dead space and reckless racing without any problems.Im assuming gameloft games wont run because they have always a video introducing the game.I just wish someone could break the video aceleration even if we had to loose lets say 20 mb of ram.Still would be very usefull.Ive posted in the stratosk kernel thread about this to see if he is interested on modify this kernel and make it even better
Hi all
i used a lot of ICS roms here but it seemed to be bad in gameing and not fast as the GB ..
Is this the problem of ICS ????
when I use GB i play a heavy games with no problem , but in ICS it is laggy and i need to overclock the cpu to play .. even though still laggy ..
also in the performance , i see the GB is much better and smooth than ICS ..
I am now back to GB but I missed the ICS ..
It will be better if there is a hyberd rom that is contain GB and ICS togather ..
so in your opinion : what is the problem ??
is it from ICS ?? or the arc is weak to get good ICS ???
Neither the arc, nor the arc s is too weak.
Let's take my HTC Wildfire S as instance:
600 MHz SC CPU
512 MB RAM (400 useable, btw this is more than on arc (s))
CM9 runs perfectly smoothly. Also the new xperia lineup has 800 MHz phones which have the new timescape gui and ICS.
I think the problem are insufficient drivers or just a *****y programming with memleaks.
The amount of free RAM is also a reason.
everyone has their own definition of what is smooth. as for me, i define it as:
1. Fling of homescreens and applications on stock launcher is solid iPhone-like even with widgets on a non-live wallpaper. The smoothness that would not let you think of Jelly Bean at all.
2. Basic applications critical for phone use like Contacts, Messaging, Browser should also be as smooth as number 1 above.
3. Temple Run Brave while in the gameplay, no lost frames and instant response on swipes. Reason is not for gaming, but means the phone will behave smoothly on heavy processing.
Since everyone has different opinion on smoothness, nobody can tell that their phone is smoothest.
What I can say though is that on any ICS ROM I have tried, nothing meets my 3 criteria above. Hence I stick with Gingerbread.
I am critical and allergic to laggy interface / phone. Destroys the experience, makes you insecure of other phones.
I installed "Jellybread" by omenHTX today and it's great Gingerbread Stuff! You should give it a shot
After so many bad experiences with ICS I am really glad someone focused on GB again
Greetings!

I was thinking about it and I think the problem is from Sony itself
maybe they give us a garbage update to feel that our phone is outdated to Chang it ..
UI Smoothness is more than acceptable on Arconium ICS but the phone is simply just too slow in the performance department, so it lags a lot - on both ICS and GB. Stock GB was just a small tad faster than Arconium ICS and significantly faster than stock ICS.
The biggest difference was the animation smoothness though, because the phone lacks performance under GB too - the processor runs at 100% for a few seconds until it launches some heavier apps, and with ICS even basic apps like youtube became heavy.

The i9000 has just 389 mb ram available to users and hence often leads to lags and app closures in background, in addition to poor gaming performance(apps have to be closed by the game causing stutters and frame rate dops in the beginning of any game)
I was wondering if like ios it was possible for a rom dev to just allow core os apps in a rom and have psuedo-multitasking(freezing and unfreezing) like ios.The reason that iphone 4s, works so smooth and can play heavy games(like real racing 3) with 512 mb ram is because of their multi tasking technique.
At the moment,There is an option in developer options where you can limit background processes to none and purge activities as soon as you exit the activity. This is good for running games(as even the launcher and any other back ground app is closed as soon as u start the app allowing full ram for the current game). This is good for gamers but prevents any form of multi tasking between apps.
If this could be used in complement with freezing and unfreezing of background apps(like ios) then maybe this phone would not have any lag issues at all, even in future heavy os updates.
P.S : It's just an idea. I'm no dev but sure could use an opinion of one .
EDIT : A solution which works for me. Gamerzrom v4.0 has caching of apps pre-enabled. So no more apps killed in background due to lack of ram.
Or you could just use a task manager/killer. Es task manager is good.

Taskmanagers are not good and are conflicting with android LMK.
I'd also love to see stuff working like this. Instead of killing all the apps running in background, keep them "frozen" and restore their last state when opening, just like iOS.
And please, don't give us ideas like task killers, tweaks, overclock, bigmem and stuff.. That's NOT what I want, got it?

Agreed as task killers never worked for me, But to have actual freezing (of background apps only) there's greenify (available on market for free for root users only), and so i have enough ram(about 170-190 mb) to play heavy games without much lag.
But the issue here is to have proper multi-tasking without burdening the os. That is just like how greenify stores the state of the app in background and then completely freezes it, so it won't start again in background and yet open normally when needed(better than disabling the app/service) .If something like this could be extended to foreground apps.
If there's no solution possible, then just buy the cheaper version of iphone coming soon, if its expensive ryt now .
Thats a great idea but there's a problem today new phones come out like crazy i mean now you have phones with quad core processors and 1gb of ram new graphic gpus and stuff which make our phones too old and weak and most people dont bother with things like that because most of them just get a new phone sooner or later which doesnt really need this since they are strong enough to run anything and make it happen fast. So in conclusion devs dont bother with a project that big cause they will move on to different phones as you see they are cheaper everyday. I blame everything on android cause it could have been made better. I have my hopes up for ubuntu touch but well see how that goes

Well over 25 million sgs1 have been sold, and all of them don't have enough money to upgrade anytime soon.
Also the need of such high specs is because apps run in parallel in background. If such a project to develop psuedo-multi tasking is started and completed, then there won't be any need of upgrading ur phone at all(even other low ram phones will benefit from it). But such a project requires great deal of work with how the system works internally, it will require great devs (which we have ) so maybe something can happen :fingers-crossed:.
I know that our phones are strong enough to handle any app one at a time(i disabled all background services possible and set phone to purge any activity as soon as it exits and set background app limit to 0 , using 439mb ram option in devil kernel with sick sky launcher), so i had upto 230 mb ram free when i checked it in settings app(which uses 30 mb ram itself) . With such a setup and oc to 1.2 ghz, i have been able to play real racing 3 with medium graphics(modded)(played at level of graphics of iphone 4) on my phone with almost no lag.
Yes the i9000 has sold alot but ive been looking at the dev section and people are moving on slowly :/ which is a shame. Our phones have enough power for now but for how long i think that at lot of devs will leave the i9000 which makes me sad but what can you do.

Couldn't this easily be achieved with a swappiness tweak? Write any app that isn't in focus onto the swap partition so no background apps are in memory, would make the system **** tier slow though for anything but gaming.

Delete bloatware, disable unnecessary services without disabling whole app with DisableServices app ( you can find it on google store, and it's free), install busybox pro and run RAM manager Pro, and last step would be to try installing soem custom Roms which probably could give better performance to you.
A good setup for gaming
For those people who want to obtain maximum performance from games, here are some tips which i have found over the 3 years i have had this phone:
1) The best kernel for gaming which i have used would be devil kernel (jb 4.2) , purely because of a 439 mb ram optionum amount of ram which can be found usable at the moment. This mode however disables the camera completely. Also it has options for overclocking.
I personally use the 439 mb ram option and 1.2 ghz clock speed for processor.
2) Try to use a debloated rom, and then try to use as less gapps as possible i.e. try to use the slim version of the gapps for the rom or install the gapps which u require manually. The gapps are not shown normally but under google services so u cant hibernate them with greenify. SO its better to not have unused gapps and features like face unlock ets.
3) Instead of using task managers, use greenify so that apps do not restart again. And try to hibernate all apps which u dont require. Apps like facebook, g+ and whatsapp are the biggest ram hoggers. Also beware of google maps cuz it does not hibernates(uses 30-40 mb ram)
4) Disable services like email exchange etc which are not used by you at all.
5)I have seen that restarting the phone helps get rid of some google core services, giving more free ram.
6) There is an option in developer settings at the bottom in apps section, set background app limit to none and also check the option "don't keep activities". Do this just before gaming and then undo them after ur done or else it will prevent any form of multi tasking.
7)Try to use light weight launchers, and no widgets(as these themselve are like an extra process which need to run in background). I am using sicksky launcher(uses just 18 mb). other options are zeam and lightning launcher.
NOTE : anyone using stock samsung rom (2.3.6), they should switch over to a custom rom, because samsung rom is completely not for gamers. most of the system processes are hard to kill , also total available ram is only (316-330) vs jb ( total ram usable is 390- 439). However if
u dont wanna change ur rom, greenify will still help, also disabling services.
Conclusion: I am using gamerzrom v4, with devil kernel using 439 mb ram option and 1.2 ghz oc.
I have had no lags in all temple runs (including oz), subway surfer and rr3 on medium graphics, nfs mw. normally using the above tips i have 180-210 + <ram used by settings app> ram free at any moment when i'm checking free ram in settings->apps->running (settings itself is a process and to see total free ram add the amount used by settings to free ram).
Also i have observed that the game devs(mainly gameloft and glu) have now begun to put our phone in low power gpu category(not totally incorrect for an unmodded sgs but not true if u have use the above tricks(especially oc and ram mod)).
so these games often can be modded for higher graphics (various mods on xda for games like nfs mw, rr3, asphalt 7, nova 3 etc) so they can be played with better graphics without lag. I have tried nfs mw mod, asphalt 7 mod, rr3 mod and they all work pretty good on medium(not available normally).
i would love it if more people share their tips on how they keep their phones going strong
Saw this Forum, Even tho im not a Samsung GS1 User, My Buddy has one and i recently gave him my ADJ Values that i use on my Xperia Play (same specs as ur device...) and he said he could do Gaming, Multitasking, and All sorts of more,
Here it is:

Well, our I9000s are almost 4 year old so no doubt that the development is gonna be worse, cause newer devices are being released.
Anyway, 4.2 seems to work bad on our phones so I really doubt that 4.3 will be any better. It just seems that the new JellyBean more performance than our phones can offer.
Sooner or later we all will switch to something newer

Actually none of the points you mentioned are the problem - this device has cm11 android 4.4.4
The problem is the game is armv7 only - this device is armv6 & it would be incredibly laggy if they did make it due to ram
The short answer to your question is no
The long answer to your question is if you want to play this game it's time to buy a new phone

Exactly that
The galaxy y has cyanogenmod 11 which is based on Android 4.4.4
For more details see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2766229
You will find the rom zip near the end of the discussion thread if you searxh
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765874
But like I said - its not the Android version that's the problem here - its the fact that the galaxy y is only armv6 and you want to play an armv7 app - its not going to happen

Good day developers!!!
I'm from Philippines and I'm using Samsung Galaxy Y GT S5360
One day, my friends play clash of clans and I want to join them but the problem is it isn't compatible with my device.
I research the requirements and here it is:
1.Android devices with OS 4.0.3 or later
2.A recommended resolution of 800 x 480 or higher
3.A minimum of 512 MB of memory
4.The ability to access the Google Play store from your device
1, 2, and 3 are the problem of this phone
1: The android version of my phone is Gingerbread 2.3.6
2. 240 x 320 pixels (~133 ppi pixel density)
3. Its ram is 290mb
Here is my question:
How can I play clash of clans with my device???
please help me, I'm only 15 but I don't want to disappoint my friends..
and hey, I love the forums and everything about android development, I'm using custom rom that looks like s5 :brofist:
keep up the good work :good:
