Hello,
i want to use my Motorola Defy+ as a gps-receiver for my Asus W510 with win8
The Defy+ is rooted and i installed CM7.2.0
There exists several apps for this feature, i tried 3:
- Bluetooth-GPS-Leistung (Play Store)
- ShareGPS (Play Store)
- ExtGPS (Play Store)
On the W510 i used two programms to test the GPS-Signal:
- FreeGPS
- Oziexplorer
The procedure is, when i understand this correctly:
When i start the programm in windows, it tries all the COM-Ports and when it reaches the bloototh-outgoing-com-port ist makes an outgoing connection trough this port to
the gps-mouse (in this case to my defy).
The Defy registrates this and enables the bluetooth-connection.
So, the app can send the gps to the w510.
Pairing is not the problem and i got the correct outgoing-com-port in windows.
But i always had the same problem: The connection is there for a second, than fails. And again for a second, then fails.
I can see this in some of the apps.
The problem is the same with all of the apps and with the two programms on the w510.
So i tried it with my desktop-pc on win7 with a bluetooth-dongle and had the same problem.
So i think that must be a problem with the mobile!
Perhaps you have some ideas or there is someone who tried this bevor?
Thank you!

Wow, hadn't thought of sharing phone gps with a computer! I tried extGPS on Slimbean (JB4.1) and Google Earth on my Win8 laptop, it worked perfectly fine. Dunno how well it works on CM7, sorry!
Hey,
can you tell me, what mobile you used?
I tried it now with a gps-mouse (Wintec WBT 202) and it works perfectly. So it should be a problem with my mobile.
Now i heard about changing the Baud-Rate at Win8. I should try this. Is it possible to change the Baud at the mobile too? Or only on the pc?

I used my MB526, did no configuration on my phone and on my laptop except for pairing the two before launching the respective softwares on both.
Ok, thanks. I will try this again and report.

I tried Magneto on my Himalaya, but I had lot of problems(see 'Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking'). Is it there same problems also for Typhoon? Meaned the biggest problems such as unability to connect via ActiveSync, unability to accept many applications from 2003SE,etc. Someony who has it already tried, please write here your opinions and experiences. Thanx.
On Typhoon, Activesync works perfectly, you can't unlock it, neither for applications, nor to use another sim card, you can't use USSD... Don't load it for the now and wait for the final version.

+1 you are right.. it is so early for WM2005. if you load microsoft can test WM 2005 on your phone and you will be cavy...
Will there ever be a stable WM5 for the typhoon?

It can be application unlocked very easily with a simple registry change.
I dont see the problems eveyone is having with the typhoon with wm 5, its very stable I dont get any crashes or lockups any more. Tom tom 5 even works relaibly. The only downfall is the camera, which im sure there will be a fix.
?
I am still interesting about the applications. WM5 needs applications designed especially for this OS or accepts also the apps, which are running also on WM2003(se)? My Himalaya, while running on Magneto, wants not accept lot of the software that I am using with WM2003se normally...
I've been running WM5 on Typhoon for 1 week.
It's awesome. (totally happy, no issues with anything)
The WM5 GUI look & feel is much better for everythying
It seems faster
I really enjoy having photo/ring-tone based contacts built in.
radio seems to aquire quicker
Active Sync over GPRS and IMAP mail is MUCH faster!
I also recommend Pocket Controller Professional. You can control any pocket pc or smartphone from your computer! (and sync files, etc etc) It comes with “skins” so it looks like your whole phone is up on the screen. (very nice to "type" in stuff now and then too) Works great on the Typhoon with WM5 so far.
The Tornado should be interesting in Oct. (similar size + WiFi + EDGE)
s4czech or anyone else, could you please indicate me a link where to find a complete explanation on how to upgrade to WM5?
I already downloaded the upgrade, but as I donno the procedure all I get is error' messages that this or that is missing... Thanks!

I am using WM 5 on my C500 (Typhoon). It runs very well, stable and fast. I have installed the following Software (tested and running). Except Power Task, they are all WM2K3 Apps
- CityTime Alarms
- Developerone Power Tasks (WM5 Version)
- Fizz Traveller 2
- Fizz Monitor
- TCPMP
- WordPad
- Blackjack
- Facade from SBSH (new)
- Opera for Mobile (new)
- Papyrus from SBSH (new)
- GPRS Traffic Counter (new)
And that's basically all I need
Cheers

First, thanks to AsGF2MX and his topic here
This tweak is not new, im just bringing it to the attention of those who only read the prophet forums.
It would appear the high and low CPU version of skype are most likely the same, the only difference being which codec it uses to compress the audio (high uses a smarter and higher quality codec resulting in high voice quality).
While low has a lower voice codec it is possible to make it even lower. The actually call quality is fine, the only difference is IT WORKS!
Heres what to do:
1) Install Skype for Low CPU's from http://www.skype.com
2) Run the attached CAB or modify the registry yourself (HKLM\Software\Skype\Phone\Audio\DisableCodecs and set it to read ILBC G729 EG711U)
Thats it, no need to overclock. You cant call the skype echo123 or Linux users as they dont support this codec but everyone else should work fine on WiFi.
Now even easier. Below is an install which will install skype that will work on the Prophet/JAMin/M600/S200.
What is it?
Its just the bog standard Skype 2.0.0.51 from skype.com but I added the registry keys required to acutally get it working on this device. I also added the Today plugin from the new Skype 2.1 beta.
How?
1. Remove any existing Skype install
2. Click here to Download Skype for Prophet and run the CAB file on your device
3. Launch skype and logon
Also attached is a seperate download to add the today plugin found in the 2.1 Beta for those that dont want to fully re-install.
Wizard?
Any idea if this will work with a Wizard?
Yes, the original thread I took the tip from was for teh wizard. Same processor, same outcome.
Work fine, at least in my device, thanks a lot!

As for me.
Seems to work fine for me too! Thanks a bunch
This is great. Thanks a ton! I finally am looking forward to installing Skype on my prophet without any hassle
works great here too on the wizard
I installed the CAB file that dannyoneill posted. When trying call skype's test number I get "no common codec" and skype hangs up. Does anyone know what to do about it?
// lidholm
You cannot use skype once you have applied this fix to call users running skype on Linux. Which is what the test server runs.
Linux only supports the one codec and it happens to be the one thats causing trouble for us.
For most they dont actually know anyone who runs Linux so its not a problem, and even if they did they have a choice. Not working at all or working for windows users.
Thanks for the reply.
Am I able to use SkypeOut ?
// lidholm
you can, as far as I know its just skype on linux that has issues, skype out, in , chat, it all works.
What about calling users that have Skype for Mac OS X? do their skype support this codec?
i believe so, yes
codec issues
This version works great with my xv6700, howeverm I replaced skype 2.2 with this. Problem is, when I reinstall skype 2.2 after uninstalling this modified 2.0 version, I cannot call with skype 2.2! It would seem all the codecs are disabled. No skypeout, no windows users, no nothing. I have checked the registry and there is nothing listed under the disabled codecs. Skype 2.2 worked OK (but slowly) before I installed this package. Any suggestions?
Does Skype work on GPRS
Hi,
Unable to download the cab file off the ftp server and also there's no Low CPU version available on www.skype.com mentioned as such. Can you please upload the file as an attachment with your message.
Also, I have an unlimited data plan through GPRS with my service provider. I have read, not clearly though, that Skype would work only through a Wi-Fi connection. My questions are -
1. Is it true, that Skype works only with Wi-Fi Net connectivity
2. If yes, is there any tweak/modification to use it through GPRS connection
3. If no, is there any other VoIP software available for WM5 that connects through GPRS.
Thanks,
Umesh

Hi there,
I had the same problem with disabling the codecs. I installed the 2.2 and after setting DisableCodecs, any call would fail with an error message "Audio I/O error" (SkypeOut, too). Then I removed this registry setting, rebooted and the error persisted. It seems that skype stores this setting at a different position and doesn't change it back.
The solution to the problem is to manually navigate to the Skype folder, open config.xml and remove the codecs which should still be inside the <DisableCodecs>...</DisableCodes> tags.
However, I still haven't figured out what the problem with disabling the codecs is in the first place. I'm running WM5 on an O2 Neo. Any ideas greatly appreciated!
Chris
Thanks for your sharing!
I am going to give it a try!
Hi,
I am a new Hermes owner and I am a networker.
So I am loking for anything related to network on Hermes to play with
unfortunately I am very confused with so many non-working applications for PPC. This is my first PPC device and I still couldn't go further then seeing my IP address on the device.
Of courser I can use it for any network application but I want to sniff, analyze, collect info...
So far, I've heard the following applications:
- VxSniffer
- PhatNet and Phatnet Pro
- Hitchhiker
- Commview wifi for PPC
- Windows Mobile Network Analyzer PowerToy for WM5
- Pocket Warrior
- CENiffer 3.0
- wififofum
- wifiknife
VxSniffer:
didn't work on my Hermes - don't know why but it says that it can't load driver.
it only worked once but then after a reset it gave the same error.
do you know the cause ?
PhatNet Pro:
didn't also work. but it never works. VxSniffer worked at least once.
Windows Mobile Network Analyzer PowerToy for WM5:
It works but really does nothing other than giving me obvious information.
Wifiknife and Wififofum aren't really doing anything sensible. Maybe just for fun.
I didn't try CommView, Pocket Warrior, CENiffer, Hitchhiker yet. But I really have no hope.
I've read the following article :
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1226&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
But it gave me no hope...
So I am still looking for software.
Which one really works on Hermes and really is useful ?
How do you use VxSniffer ? (I ask this because it was the only one that seemed like it would work and I see some people on this forum talking about it)
Does hitchiker or commview work ?
Please help me
????????
Well erm..... what is it you want to do?
Hitchhiker works if you want to connect to a network. Wififofum that you say does nothing sensible gives you info about networks in the area. That is what these sort of apps. are designed for. If you want more then you have to be more specific in stating your purpose.
At random I might suggest something like logmein as a network tool to control your PC, but I live in fear that you will say that's not what I'm looking for it does nothing sensible!!
You ask for apps that really are useful - and that's the point, useful for what?
More detail please?
Mike
ok; detail...
I am looking for network analyzing, packet capturing, sniffing tools.
also talking about wifi, wep key sniffing would be nice.
also, I am looking for an emule/edonkey client for PPC.
I have mobiphant but a better client (if exists) would be nice.
btw, what information do you get from wififofum (I mean information that standart builtin wlan tool does not supply) ?
logmein is a pc controlling software as far as I know from my readings throughout the forum. I need this kind of application but my limitation is that I can only use remote desktop protocol. (formy work pc)
now, you'll say "use the built in TSC" but it is not usefull with 320x240 screen size. So I tried Nyditot to achieve a higher screen resolution. Then it made my stylus unuseful (screen alignment problem)
you see, there are too many problems that I need to solve with my Hermes.
emule/edonkey, wep key snifers - get a life!!
Come on ...
Want to use your HERMES as a hacking tool?
Forget it ...
why not ?
hey guys, why not ?
I don't understand you.
there are these applications...
mobiphant is a working emule client. I used it and I even downloaded someyhing on the go.
I just couldn't find the right sniffing application.
commview and hitchhiker should be working. I just don't know how to install and use these.
if phatnet, commview, hitchhiker, vxsniffer, and other tools are written. then there is a demand. and also there is possibility.
so why not we don't use it ?
I don't understand why you are negative about this.
I think there is negativity because the combination of applications you seem interested in suggests that you want to drive up to someones house or perhaps detect the neighbours network, crack their wep key, and start downloading their files.
Or maybe you have just given the wrong impression??
Mike
I think it's wrong impression.
I am a network expert in a serious network and telco company.
I have high bandwidth internet access both at work and at home.
I don't need to crack my neighbour's wep key.
It's just that I love network tools and now that I have a new toy which can access wifi, I want to play with it.
I need network sniffer to troubleshoot my voip applications on the hermes.
I need the emule client to download ANYTHING from e2dk networks while I am connected with my hermes.
there is no evil idea. I just want to use tools that are available. I am not familiar with this pocket pc OS (I was a PalmOS user for 6 years) and I need help.
besides, if I need to hack my neighbour's network I could use my laptop with many available tools.
That seems fair comment to me.
Unfortunately not being an expert in this area, we'll have to wait for replies from those who are.
Mike
I've found another one: ministumbler
it's available at :
http://www.stumbler.net
and
http://www.wardriving.pl/new.php?nr=193
it seem like a new application however, it didn't work...
Maybe I am doing something wrong.
Should I enable wifi card or disable it before using such applications ?
as soon as I enable my wifi card it connects to my wifi network.
maybe this interrupts the sniffer application ???
I use WiFi Companion, so you can chack that out if it suites you
Here is the link: http://www.jiwire.com/socket-wifi-companion-product-review-1.htm
wifi companion seems like a nice application. should I install it to devşce or the storage card ?
any special instrucions ?
You can install it on storage card, it works fine from there..
No special instruction needed for network experts..
here is what i have on my Hermes.
btcrawler - bluetooth snarfing/scanning tool (not really that useful but fun none the less)
mtoken - serial/telnet/ssh client
pocket tty - ppc version of putty
sniffi - wireless scanning tool (btw ministumbler doesnt work on the hermes)
wififofum2 - wireless (not sure which one i like yet)
vxipconfig - release renew etc..
vxutil - ping/traceroute/finger/nslookup etc...
Others
CE Sniffer v3.1 - packet capture (like ethereal, i have used it on my old ppc havent installed it on hermes yet)
vxSNMP - read/write snmp (havent installed it)
vxSniffer - packet capture (havent installed it, but Cambridge software generally is very good)
WEP cracking - havent seen anything for ppc running windows. Generally you need linux on a IPAQ or similar.
thank you
I will try these...
However, I have a very generic problem:
when I install something related to wifi adapter, I generally can't run it.
all of the apps I tried say that :
"can't load driver"
"driver not loaded"
"driver not available"
I got these for most of the apps. Now I try the Socket Wi-fi Companion as suggested and I get a similar error:
"one or more components of WLAN tools were not found, or there are too few resources available to start the program. please verify proper installation of WLAN tools and try again"
I tried several times and the result is same.
My wifi is working. I am connected to my home wifi router now.
So what is the problem ?
Should I start these apps when my wifi is on or off ?
should I run them when I'm connected to a wlan or not ?
maybe there is a conflicting application I think but the only continuous running app is Wisbar Advanced.
What do you suggest ?
most of the wifi apps were written a while ago and dont contain drivers for the wifi in the hermes. A good example is ministumbler, it has not been updated for years.
You dont really need a wifi scanner to do more then tell you a network exists, if it is secured, what channel, power of the network, and if your lucky what brand of AP it is. sniffi and wififofum2 both do this and have gps tagging too.
There are plenty others out there though.
senergy,
I understand you but I can't run any of the apps that you (and others) report working.
I have a problem using these drivers on my hermes. what could it be ?
anyone using any of these sniffing applications successfully on Hermes ?
which vxsniffer version works on Hermes ?
vxSniffer.hpcPro_arm.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_I486.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_mips.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_sh3.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_sh4.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_arm.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_mips.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_sh3.CAB
I still can't get further than "cannot load driver"
I'd go for the PPC ARM cab
Mike
Hello everybody.
as probably some of you guys set uped your shift to be navigation as well using various softwares and external GPS signal receiver.
i would like to start a thread to finalise which program and receiver most suit the Shift. From previous thread i have seen people discussing about MS autoroute, Automapa, and IGo but ended up without conclusions.
i will explain my experience
primarily i installed Autoroute 2007 on shift with my blueNEXT (sirfIII) gps receiver, which didn't end up well. the problem was something to do with com-port, seems like Autoroute cannot locate the device.
2ndly i tried with Automapa but i could get around registration so i couldn't really test it fully.
I would like to find out some comments who still uses Automapa and Autoroute, how they set uped the devices.
i am eagerly waiting for your replys.
Hi, hopefully you will get some helpful replies, but please do not discuss pirated software or ask how to crack software, as we all run the risk of losing the forum if those kinds of discussions are allowed.
Thanks.
I found out some trick
For everyone getting highly or slightly frustrated with the task :
Setting up a Bluetooth GPS Receiver on Vista
I got a Tip :
It seems that when pairing your device, most of the time, two comports are created automatically, an outgoing and incoming port.
If you install whatever kind of Navigation software, and you try to start it with the correct port, many, many people on the internet report problems. The device won't connect.
I don't know why, but if you FIRST start your navigation software, then open the GPS task pane, and try to connect to the port, and QUICKLY go into the bluetooth settings "show BT devices" and click on your GPS.
Then click the second tab to show the available services, AS SOON as that happens, I got a consistent and persistant connection.
All other options (the normal way) fail for me. I have to trick it and jumpstart it whilst the navigation software is already running and looking for the port....
Vista...
Hi
I bought GPSGate installed thaihugo's WWE 1.22.x and installed GPSGate WM side and Vista side. I installed Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006, which I bought sometime back in 2007. Now this works like a champ. I opted out to install pocket streets though. I will install either odyssey or something else once we figure out how get SD card visible.
Edit: I have found Odyssey requires WinXP to install, their installer will not work with WinVista, too bad.
Thanks
Ram
Yup, I'm using GPSGate running on both Vista and WinMo and Microsoft Autoroute 2007. Works perfectly.

No, Autoroute is running on Vista using the GPS data from WinMo, which is shared over the activesync connection.

Please let me know, how can I setup properly GPSgate on WiMo and Vista side? thx!
You need both the WinMo and Vista/XP versions of GPSGate. Both versions together cost $49 from the Franson website. Use Google if you want the 'warez' versions, I won't link to them here. When you install them, it asks which connections and com ports to share the gps data over. Select Activesync on both installs. Then you just point your Nav program to the virtual com ports created by GPSGate.
Dear all,
could you please help me in fixing these?? :
1- When i open calendar, even if I change the show in "month", it starts always in agenda mode
2- Tomtom (7.910.etc etc) works fine, but I have first to "OPEN" the com4 port using HTC GPS Tool and then launch Tomtom....is there a way to do it automatically?
3- I have a file .mp4, but if I open with WMP I can only listen to the audio without video,...did I miss something?
4- Music TF3d player: there is an easy way to play all the cds (in the folder) without creating a playlist?? I found this player a bit complicated at first sight...
thanks in advance and enjoy your 2009 with the HTC Touch HD
Ad 1) - Same thing here, learned to live with it, unless someone else has a solution.
Ad 2) - I have Tomtom configured to use the Build-in GPS receiver (Setup, GPS settings, configure). Works fine.
No comment on 3 and 4, I use core player.
Have you read the Blackstone FAQ? There is a solution for the calendar bug in manila3d.
