Hello!
I own a htc diamond and want to access a wifi network that's using a HTTP proxy. I can connect to the network itsself. However, the proxy settings aren't applied or sometimes deleted when I disactivate and reactivate wifi. When I try it at home, it can still access the internet even if I set the proxy server. (I don't have a proxy server at home, so it shouldn't work then...)
With a iPod Touch/iPhone the following settings work:
Server: server-01.hak-reutte.ac.at
Port: 8080
I also have to authenticate using an username and password, but I think there's also a web form so it's not necessary to configure that in the proxy configuration.
Thank you,
Simon

If you use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Centre verify the connection settings are NOT set to automatic. If they are then the Proxy settings are overwritten each time you connect to your PC to sync. If you want to use a proxy over WiFi then you need to make sure your 'Work' connection settings specify the proxy and you need to configure the WiFi settings to 'Connects to Work' (or whatever it says, but NOT 'Internet').
Andy
Hi ADB100!
Thanks for your answer. The problem occurs even when I'm not connected to ActiveSync. Somehow the proxy server is reset when the WLAN is used. I tried the application WmWifiProfiles, but the problem is still there. When I set the proxy server and exit the settings application, the settings for HTTP proxy are somehow not saved. (When I reopen the settings dialog, the http proxy setting is blank, but the proxy for socks is still there.)
Regards,
Simon

Do you have proxy auto-discovery on?
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
EnableAutoDetect=00000001
If its set to 1 then proxy auto-discovery is enabled, 0 is disabled.
I have no idea if it is this but worth a shot?
Andy
Hi ADB100!
AutoDetect wasn't acticated. (The key didn't exist.) I tried creating the key with value 0 and 1, but didn't help.
I think this must be a bug, because there are a lot of topics about this problem. Unfortuntatly, nobody seems to have a solution for this problem .
I tried changing the registry keys in HKLM/Comn/ConnMgr/Providers/. That worked, because the internet connection was dead then . I think it's possible to work around the problem by changing this keys. I will try that next week and when that really fixes the problem, I'll probably release an application for it.
However, do have some ideas left?
Thanks,
Simon
Bizarre....
I have never seen this on any of the Windows Mobile PDA's I have had.
I know if the connection settings: 'This computer is connected to:' are set to anything other than 'Automatic' then it resets any proxy you configure. I have mine set to 'Work Network' and the settings are never overwritten. I use a proxy at home and remember playing around with these settings as I had similar issues initially.
I know there is a known issue of the 'Hidden Proxy' if you let the device configure itself using the 'Connection Setup'. I have never let my device do this and have manually configured the HSDPA/GPRS settings.
Andy
Hi ADB100!
I've also aborted the connection setup, cause I didn't want my device to use HSDPA automatically.
I'm not 100% sure but I think my old device (HTC S730) had also some problems with the proxy, but I was able to solve them. Maybe it's also a problem with my ROM.
How stable/fast are the current RC builds of 6.5? Are they ready for every day use?
Thank you,
Simon

I haven't tried any 6.5 ROMs for any period of time as they all seemed too buggy. I am on an almost stock 5.2.19212 ROM that I have lightly customised in a kitchen and I am happy with it.
Andy
This is really annoying... When you search the forums for "wifi proxy" you'll get more than 10 threads with the same problem, but without a solution.
You are using a wifi router with proxy at home and it works, right?
I'll upgrade to 6.5 now, maybe this fixes the problem...
Thanks,
Simon

Yes, I have MS ISA 2006 and it works.....
Truely amazing. I've upgraded to 6.5 and the problem is still there :-(. I've the radio from the latest official diamond rom. Could an other radio fix the problem?
//edit: Just to describe my problem further: When I set the proxy, exit the dialog and reopen the dialog, the proxy is there. When I open the internet explorer then, the http proxy gets deleted. However, the socks proxy is kept. This is kind of frustrating...
Thanks,
Simon
Read this one: http://www.htc.com/www/faqs.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&id=36792 According to this article wifi + proxy should not work. What can I do now?
// Update: This looks extremly promising: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1990412#post1990412 I'll try that immediatly and post the results. If that works, I'll build an application to simplify applying the fix.
Thanks,
Simon
My status is too. Please help me!
It's a bug, that's sure. I finally got the proxy working, but after reconnecting the proxy settings were blank again .
Just to let you know I was also having problems with proxies and a google led me to this thread. For me, the advice in post 2 worked perfectly. I am using a 6.5 rom on a Touch HD.
Hi SivEd!
Did you also have the problem that your proxy settings get reset when you reconnect to the wifi network?
I've written an app that resolves this issue, let me know if you want to test.
Hi Anks!
Please upload your app, this is a real problem for me.
Thanks,
Simon
Simon, sent you a PM.
The problem seems to be fixed in recent Windows Mobile 6.5 builds, at least for me. I'm using build 21812. Unfortunatly, proxy authentification seems not to work in Opera. In Internet Explorer a dialog appears where I have to enter my username and password. Opera doesn't display such a dialog. But the main problem (proxy setting gets deleted) has been resolved.
HTH,
Simon
I got HD2 last week and I can connect to everything(HTC Sense weather etc) online via mobile network except checking my email and MSN Messenger. Those two only work then the phone in on wifi.
I have a 10 GB data plan as part of my subscription so I should be able to use those. Have I done a setup error? Or could it be my mobile provider blocking usage of those two services?
I have looked at my mobil providers homepage and it says nothing about those two service being blocked.
Any thoughts?
In your internet settings unselect "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet". I had the same problem on T Mobile UK and now everything works.
Yes, Sometimes after soft reset... But fix it is easy.
if unselect this proxyserver setting isn't something to do with security by the mobile provider?

no, the proxy just holds copies of web pages soo that you don't connect to the website every time. there is no difference by not using the proxy

I am having this same problem, but i have checked the proxy settings and the proxy is not configured.
any other ideas what it could be?
PS, I'm on vodafone if it makes any difference.
Thanks
I guess that your data plan covers only Internet browsing (port 80 and 443), email is on port 110 (in) and 25 (out) and Messenger on still another port, they must be blocked as you guessed in your first post. Orange implemented the same kind of restriction in France with its so called "Internet max" option, what a joke!

I have had this problem for 5 days now. I have tried different roms, hard resets and the proxy connection but it will not let me sign into msn or hotmail. Marketplace works fine though. I am also on vodafone but I tried to connect via a wifi hotspot and it still failed.
The only thing I can think of is that I recently deleted all of my msn contacts via outlook on my computer. I think that this has somehow messed up my profile and so the phone won't connect.
There is a help section on the live app which redirects you to a webpage. You fill in some details about your phone, operator, problem etc but the 'submit' button wouldn't work for me, so I didn't get anywhere.
I've been using my phone at work where we have lousy cell signal and no wifi, so I connected my phone through bluetooth. When I went home, it stopped updating weather, and Opera gave me a proxy error. I fixed Opera by deleting its proxy settings from about:config but can't find the settings for TF3D. All other programs work without issues.

Forgot to mention that I'm trying to connect through ATT Medianet with their automatic settings on my Pure that I can't change.
Install this cab, it will remove the proxy settings and make sure both networks are set to MediaNet.
You will be able to tether as well w/o paying for tethering.
I recall this being missing in Android 2.x last I dealt with it, but I would have thought they added it by 3.0. And yet I can't find proxy settings anywhere on my newly bought Xoom. Is it just me being blind, or is it really not there?
Yes it is still missing, along with Cisco VPN support...
This makes this tablet pretty useless in a corporate environment... iPad works damnit!
I'm necro'ing this thread, but I found out that HTTP Proxy Settings from the market works just fine to expose the native Setting's Proxy page. I have no idea why it's disabled, but it works just fine for me! I just barely got it working, so I hope the setting is per WiFi network, as I'll have to clear it when I get back home, which would suck.
HTTP Proxy settings is not working with my xoom. Ran the app and it shows a blank Proxy screen.
Restarted Xoom. No change.
Do I need to root?
Not sure if this will work on the Xoom but on my phone I've created a Proxy shortcut using Any Cut. New shortcut > Activity > Proxy. Works well as long as you don't need proxy authentication.
Use Firefox Mobile
Use Firefox mobile and go to the add ons section and install the proxy mobile add-on. After you install it, go to proxy mobile from your add-on and enter your proxy settings.
i'm having the strangest problem, my browser cant connect using mobile internet, but it works perfect on wifi. opera works fine via mobile or wifi, so does market. i've read some similar forums which suggest the problem is in proxy settings, which i cant find.
i've tried reflashing prety much everything, so any suggestion would be most appreciated.
edit:
i figured it works in stock rom, but doesnt work in cm or wildpuzzle. i did a format od system/data/cache/sd and it still doesnt work. i tought it had sth to do with google backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867143), but it doesnt seem so, because it still didnt work after clean install wothout syncing to google at all.
is there any similar config tool in android btowser to about:config in mozilla?
______bump?______
Do you use 3G internet or only edge?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Try using different ROMS?

found the problem...
it was the proxy in apn what caused trouble. but it was way stupid situation. 1stly, apns are auto downloaded from network in my case, and as such i treated them as correct. and 2dly, i tried to clear that exact same proxy before, but it didnt cross my mind i have to reboot when i changed something as simple.
the cause of some apps still working and others didnt was probably that the ones which worked didnt use proxy at all.
anyways, problem solved, me happy. thanks for help...
I replied to a similar problem on this forum some time ago. Maybe it would apply to other people having similar issues.
was having a similar problem yesterday after I upgraded the OS on my phone.
Let me describe what I am using:
HTC Glacier with Cyanogen 7 ROM including Google Apps.
I installed TransProxy 3.08beta and a few other applications, made some config changes, enabled / disabled proxy a few times and later on the browser application that was included with the ROM would not connect to 3G data. It was working fine on WiFi. However Opera worked fine on either. Also other apps like market worked fine.
This is what fixed it for me:
1. Disable proxy in TransProxy
2. Create a shortcut for system proxy settings on home screen:
long press on home screen > custom shortcut > pick your activity > activities > settings > Proxy Settings(.ProxySelector)
3. Open proxy settings using the shortcut
4. Clear settings using 'Clear' button
5. Save
After this the browser started connecting to 3G data.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Proxy is a host through which you can access a particular network (in this case internet) from your device. Your device can be a phone or a pc or a tablet or anything that needs to connect to this network. If proxy settings are configured on your phone then the phone will always try to access the internet through that proxy host, even if direct connection is possible. After clearing those proxy settings, my problem was resolved.
