[Q] Xoom proxy settings - Xoom General

I recall this being missing in Android 2.x last I dealt with it, but I would have thought they added it by 3.0. And yet I can't find proxy settings anywhere on my newly bought Xoom. Is it just me being blind, or is it really not there?

Yes it is still missing, along with Cisco VPN support...

This makes this tablet pretty useless in a corporate environment... iPad works damnit!

I'm necro'ing this thread, but I found out that HTTP Proxy Settings from the market works just fine to expose the native Setting's Proxy page. I have no idea why it's disabled, but it works just fine for me! I just barely got it working, so I hope the setting is per WiFi network, as I'll have to clear it when I get back home, which would suck.

HTTP Proxy settings is not working with my xoom. Ran the app and it shows a blank Proxy screen.
Restarted Xoom. No change.
Do I need to root?

Not sure if this will work on the Xoom but on my phone I've created a Proxy shortcut using Any Cut. New shortcut > Activity > Proxy. Works well as long as you don't need proxy authentication.

Use Firefox Mobile
Use Firefox mobile and go to the add ons section and install the proxy mobile add-on. After you install it, go to proxy mobile from your add-on and enter your proxy settings.

WiFi and proxy

Hello,
I have HTC Touch, and I'm trying to connect to wifi with ISA proxy.
First, I connected to home wifi (no proxy) and accessed internet without problem.
At work we have Radius etc. but I also connected, and I can surf to pages inside company (no need for proxy), but I can't get out to internet.
Any suggestion would be great!
tnx
small update: looks like I was surfing at work through usb cable, not wifi. But now I can't even connect to wifi at work, which I could before. Funny things going on, I'll reset.
Update2:
Newest status is: wifi connected, can surf internal sites, but can't go outside company network.
I suspect that IE is not going through the proxy at all. Which implicates that I don't know how to setup IE to use proxy on WM6???
If you edit "My Work Settings" thru Settings -> Connections -> Connections you can edit the proxy settings there. Then you say "connect to internet" thru "My Work Settings". I may be wrong, but I think you need to reset the pda as well...
OK, here are my settings:
under settings-connections-connections, advanced - select networks:
"Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:" My Work Network.
When I click Edit, under Modem, there are no entries.
Under Proxy settings, "This network connects to internet" and "this network uses a proxy.." are both checked.
"Proxy server" field is disabled.
Under Advanced:
Socks line has serverort next to it. Others are empty. Server and port are good.
I click ok on all and go to IE. Type www.google.com, it says "Locating.." and that's all. Internal web sites are opening ok.
I tried to turn it off, and back on.
Tried google, not working.
I checked all settings once again and tried then, still nothing.
This is a common problem and I have not found a solution for it myself yet.
The proxy settings are lost when you apply them, and the SOCKS server settings behaves weirdly.
Anyone knows what can be done?
i want to know how to do this too... my school is also using the same system.
still no update
no update ??
configfree from Toshiba
Dear,
I had an old E800 from toshiba where configfree is installed. With this program I can configure proxy for wifi in 10 sec and it works.
does someone know where we can find this program for other PDA. I want to try it on my Cruise.

I'm also having the same issue. Can anyone help, please?
From my experiences I can tell you: THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE HTC AND HTTP PROXY FOR WIFI RUN. Neither with WM6.0 nor 6.1 nor a special brand nor the original firmware.
I have tried to inform HTC support, but I'm extremely pessemistic, that at least one will care. It seems to be not a WM related problem, because my WM6 ASUS doesn't have that issue.
There is a work around for browsers only: Don't use Pocket IE, use Minimo, because this browswer has it's own proxy setup. But it doesn't help you much, if you want to use other applications.
EDIT: Just to inform you, what happens, if you upgrade to WM6.1: The proxy settings are kept (HURRRAY) ---- but ignored completely It's _that_ brain damaged...

I can confirm the same "symptoms": proxy is totally being ignored on WM6.1. However, they're kept when you close the settings.

Proxy over WiFi works for me and has done with my previous HTC Wizard and now with my Kaiser. I have checked with a sniffer that I am definitely using the proxy over port 8080 (MS ISA 2006).
I have explained this before but this is how my device is setup.
ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre - Connection Settings set to 'This computer is connected to: Work Network' - Setting this to Automatic or The Internet deletes any Proxy Settings on the device when you connect it.
WiFi. My home WiFi SSID Network set to 'Connects to: Work'
Connections. 'Tasks' tab - Two settings 'My ISP' & 'My Work Network'. Advanced Tab, Select Networks. Top settings 'Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: My ISP'. Bottom settings 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network'. Under 'My ISP' I have the GPRS details for my carrier (Vodafone). Under 'My Work Network' I have a proxy defined with the Advanced settings configured - HTTP set to my proxy with the port 8080 and Socks set to my proxy with port 1080.
That's it and has worked for me since Windows Mobile 6.0 appeared for the Wizard. I used the same settings when I first got my Kaiser with WM 6.0 and now with WM 6.1 (more or less stock 5.2.19212) and it has worked every time.

Proxy on wireless

I've searched for this but can't find it - apologies if i've missed it!
Ok, the problem is at home my wireless works perfectly on the x1 - on the computer you simply set explorer/firefox to auto-detect the proxy settings, but at school where a proxy server (192.168.xxx.xxx) is needed, no applications will work via wireless on the x1, just by contract wap.
On opera I manages to find opera:config where i tried changing the http and https proxies (together and seperately) but whenever i look back at it these boxes are blank and unchecked - can anyone help?

System-wide proxy on 2.1

Anybody knows is it possible to setup a proxy in android 2.1 (sense)? WiFi at work needs a proxy to connect to web.
Well, I also need such a thing but as far as I know, it ain't possible... I wish it was... As for 2.1, I have no idea if it's achievable but I have a feeling it's not
+1, my university wifi network requires a proxy to connect to the internet =[
I've created a similar topic a while ago.. but no solutions .
With a http proxy 3G data connection I can use only the browser (without download). All the other apps it seems that ignore the proxy settings..
You could try AnyCut (free from Market)
New shortcut -> Activity -> Proxy. Click on the shortcut created on homescreen and fill your proxy there..

Browser help for Proxy Setting or Web-Authentication based Internet Access

I just got my Dell streak (still rogers stock) and am trying to connect to my work's wireless network.
My first problem was our work wireless network is using LEAP authentication - I found a MarketApp that allowed me to put in my leap credentials so I'm now able to connect.
Now, to gain internet access, our wireless network has 2 options.
1) enter a proxy address - no credential required.
- I have yet to find a way to enter a proxy address using the stock browser
- I've read that there's no browser (even dolphin, opera mini) that has any setting for proxy.
Does anyone know if there's any new information with regards to proxy support for stock or any other browser out there for dell streak?
2) no proxy but upon trying to connect to the internet, the browser is suppose to ask for credential. This access works using regular laptop but not on my dell streak.
- I tried access the internet this way but when I launch the stock browser, the URL gets redirected to the login page but the browser just says WEB PAGE NOT AVAILABLE..
- I tried with Opera Mini as well but that doesn't even try to redirect to the login page. I tried to manually enter the redirect URL but it doesn't go anywhere - just gives me CONNECTION FAILED.
Does anyone know how I can fix this??
THANKS IN ADVANCE
Can someone help me move this to the Q&A section? Hpping I can get some response there..
Thanks
hi,
i'm facing the same proxy problem at my uni. I have heard and downloaded a program called " Transparent Proxy". I have not tried it yet because I'm not back at uni yet (still on holiday until end of Feb). Maybe you can give it a go and let us know
Off the top of my head, you can't get there from here.
You said you got the stock firmware at rogers that means 1.6 and i can confirmed as of 2.1 you couldn't do it trough android itelf. duno about froyo 2.2's.
however if you can run fennac ( a port of a mobile mozila firefox ), you'll be able to proxy like a mad man.
gszyszka.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-browse-internet-from-behind.html
iirc i can't post a proper link until i've got so many post (copy n paste it to get there)
I stumbled through transparent proxy after doing 1 click root of my streak - so far I'm getting no iptable binary error message.. I'll try to dig to see how I can resolve this..
I will keep you guys posted..
Thanks all for your replies..
Back to uni for two days now and been using internet with transparent proxy. So I can confirm that it works. So glad that proxy problem is finally solved
solved my proxy issues
SOLVED the proxy authentication problem
You need to install Firefox on the device, if you haven't got a sim with a data package then you will have to do this manually.I have only done this with my sim installed.
Once this is installed you need to go to the Firefox menu and search addons for "proxy mobile" once this is installed it gives you options to add http, socks and ssl proxy details that your tech team will know. Once this is installed when you go on the internet and you are connected to your wireless you will be shown the usual login box it asks to remember the password I would do this. internet works and all apps are working. Why they haven't written this into the settings of this dell machine or others I have no idea. #Majorfail and #happychap

Entering proxy settings to access university internet via WiFi

Hi all. I have been trying for a long time to get the internet to work (on my Samsung Galaxy S II) while being connected to my university's WiFi. My university provides passwords to some of it's access points. I successfully connected to the access point (Student), but the internet didn't not work. Also connected to a second access point, still nothing
My university runs on a proxy network and so certain details need to be entered into the device's browser. The proxy settings for my university's internet are: Address: proxy.xx.yy (second and third set hidden for privacy) and Port: 8080. My friend got his internet working on his iPhone, as there was a screen to add these proxy settings. People have also got the internet to work on their laptops by entering those settings. However I have looked everywhere but can't seem to find the proxy settings screen on my Galaxy S II. Help would be much appreciated.
Add a Wi-Fi network under Wi-Fi settings (not sure which Android version you have as I'm going off of CM 10.1) and there is a checkbox for advanced options then it should be there.

I found those options and got the internet working. Thanks. However only my default internet browser works. Firefox, skype, whatsapp and other apps dont work. What method can I use to rectify this?
